MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As I'd never heard of this author before I found this to be an unexpected delight that pushes all your emotional buttons.  It's a quick yet well written read that realistically portrays all those feelings you experience with your first love.  You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be filled to the top with feelings of warmth that unfortunately crash down when tragedy strikes.

Hayden and Avery were great friends throughout childhood who one night decide to be more.  They have a few obstacles to their romance though in the form of their parents, but luckily have the help of their close friend Bryce to help their romance flourish.  They soon have their whole future planned out with their HEA in sight when they're torn apart by a single event.  They, and we, are left with a huge whole in our hearts and are left praying for a HEA.  Hayden and Avery were wonderful together.  Both were mature beyond their years and immensely supportive of each other.  Their relationship evolved slowly which made their coming together all the richer and their falling apart all the more painful.

The writing in this story was powerful, engendering strong emotions that brought you back to your own first love.  The pace kept me fully immersed in their story experiencing all their joys and pains along with them.  While there's not a cliffhanger the future is definitely altered for everyone, including Bryce, in an ending that was shocking.  This is a memorable start to an unforgettable story and I highly recommend it and greatly anticipate the sequel!

My rating for this is an A.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Picking up five years after the events in Just Us, Avery is still struggling with moving on.  With no one around her who truly understands it's the appearance of Bryce that both hurts and helps her put the past behind her.  Their friendship, though battered, allows them to lean on each other and sort through their mutual pain.  As they grow closer unexpected feelings emerge and out of tragedy Avery finally gets her HEA.

Avery is still an immensely likable heroine with feelings that made me ache for her.  She seemed so lost and though seeing Bryce at first hurt, I was happy that she finally had someone to fully support her who could relate to her pain.  We didn't get to know too much about Bryce in the previous book beyond the fact that he was a bit of a player though Avery saw his goodness.  He hid his true feelings for her behind friendship but those feelings still exist and he'd do anything to make her happy once again. Bryce is hurting just as much as Avery, but with being seen as the bad guy, I felt that his pain was ignored by others.  Being with Avery allowed him to finally grieve and forgive himself though it didn't come easily.  I was a bit disappointed with Avery at first putting all the blame on Bryce since she and Hayden willingly got in the car but deep down I'm sure guilt was wrapped up in her pain too even if she didn't want to admit it.

These were likable people put through the emotional wringer who came out of it stronger.  Their emotions were believable and kept me fully engaged in the story.  This was not only a story showcasing a burgeoning romance though but one also showing the rebuilding of a friendship.  It was ultimately about acceptance and forgiveness and Ms. Ford beautifully represented all that.  I look forward to discovering more of this author's literary treasures.
