This is the day of the week where we get to know each other better by answering a question devised by our lovely hostesses Parajunkee & Alisoncanread. We also gain new followers by joining each other's sites via GFC, so please let me know if you're a new follower since I automatically follow back. And now for this week's question....
Q: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!
A: One of my pet peeves is silly misunderstandings drawn out wwwwaaaayyy too long. Excessive stupidity annoys me greatly. Another pet peeve equally as annoying relates to disabled characters. I HATE when they are suddenly cured by the end of the story. It's unrealistic and it promotes the idea that those with disabilities can't have a HEA unless they're "normal", which is grossly inaccurate. Both of these items will result in much sailor cursing.
Yes to the disabled characters! I agree with the ending of a story too. Great answers!
ReplyDeleteYour disabled characters comment gave me a good chuckle. Definitely agree with you! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteOmg i totally agree with this! misunderstanding drags on forever are way too much. thanks for following me. followed you back!x

Hopping through. I hate silly misunderstandings dragging on too. You want to hit the characters.
ReplyDeleteMy Hop
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I agree, when the authors really draw it out, I completely lose interest!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I've not come across that issue with curing disabled characters very often, which is lucky, because I would probably throw the book across the room. Ugh.

Yeah I don't like that either. It's best to keep some reality in the fiction! Not everyone can be stable yet unstable people can have HEA ending too!

Everyone is allowed a "dumb blonde" moment or two but when it takes a character chapters and chapters to realize their mistake. GAWD!

I definitely get your point about curing a character so they can be happy! Also, if a character has to lose weight by the end to be happy, or anything like that. Like being skinny or getting your eyesight back is the thing that will fix it all! But if the cure or weightloss or whatever isn't the thing that fixes it all then it probably wouldn't bother me as much, but it also wouldn't be as interesting as a character learning to accept it and be happy anyway.
ReplyDeleteOhmygosh I SO agree with the drawn-out silly misunderstandings!

This is a really good one. I hate anything that is overdone. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for following me, I'm following you back! I completely agree with the disabled characters. They can't just be cured out of the blue, they have to work at it. Great answer!
ReplyDeleteSilly misunderstandings make me want to shout at the characters to just talk to each other! It's not that difficult lol
