MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Throughout last year Ms. Vale's Welcome to the Circus series was a highlight for me!  Fueled by a dark and sinister premise, each book divulges more about this painful past and a father who kept devils behind the bright lights and laughter of the circus world.  Each book pulls readers in even more deeply into this world, and these larger than life characters, as we get closer to the end of the road.

Zip is the youngest child, and was sheltered from the truth about her father's actions, until she was the last one standing and it suddenly all came down on her.  While being a part of the circus is something she loves, there's something...someone...she loves more!  Zip has been drawn to NASCAR driver Nash Christopherson since the first time she saw him, and soaks up every bit of info she can find about him.  Their initial meeting saw him putting up every wall he possessed, with her pushing him from that moment on, in a combustible pairing that had me rooting her on every step of the way.

Zip is immensely likable with a quirky personality and a strong set of beliefs that she stands firm in.  Nash is a stoic and broody man early on, a man with a past that is heartbreaking, so the walls surrounding him are understandable.  Zip is just what he needs though, someone to support him completely, and the slow lowering of his emotional walls was richly rewarding to see.  With each turn of the page we get closer to the end of this series and I'm left breathless with anticipation for how Ms. Vale will wrap it all up.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Harley and Chase have instant chemistry the moment they meet and enjoy a sizzling one knight stand that sets the stage for a romance spanning years.  The one night they share is near perfect, but in the harsh light of day the issues between them become obvious and lead to an angsty and heated journey full of ups and downs that kept me glued to the pages.

The issues between them involve her being ten years younger and their families being enemies.  Chase is drawn to Harley, but when learning her age he desperately tries to stay away from her.  The heart wants what the heart wants though, leading to a forbidden romance full of secret meetings and a connection that is undeniable.  The connection between these two jumped off the pages and I enjoyed their secret meetings and their struggles seen with each turn of the page.  Theirs is a journey just starting here and I look forward to where things go for Chase and Harley.  Luckily, the continuation of their romance is coming soon and I'll be counting down the days until they reach their HEA.

I love writing about older heroines’ journeys—there is much to enjoy and glean. As far as romance, older heroines have experienced versions of love, but that doesn’t mean they don’t stop falling in love. While many younger heroines experience and learn from their first acts, older heroines are often in the midst of their second acts, and there is a lot to learn from the second acts.

Second acts, such as the one I write about in The Nick Before Christmas, remind us of the blessing of second chances, that we can get life wrong for years, even decades. MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

This is a story that stepped on the gas pedal from the very first sentence and didn't let up until the end.  It's a whirlwind of action and emotions, characters that were put through the wringer, and triggers that might be difficult to read about but made for an unforgettable story.  It's a story that pulls at your heartstrings and has you holding on for dear life through all the highs and lows.  It satisfies while leaving you clamoring for the next installment.

Koah Saint and Tori Welsh have a complicated connection, making for a childhood of pain and anger that puts them at odds with one another.  A childhood of evilness and abuse binds Saint and his two friends, leading to an event that changes Tori's life irrevocably.  For both, the fallout of that event leads to anger and pain and doing anything to survive.  I admire both for surviving the childhoods they had, even with the sometimes questionable choices made by Saint.  Saint's childhood was truly awful, heartbreaking, so it was understandable that he chose a more gritty path to adulthood. Though his actions weren't always heroic, he was definitely a hero just for surviving. Tori's life had her carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders, barely making ends meet to keep her and her sister alive and well.  Saint and Tori have always been a combustible pairing, but slowly Saint started to prove himself her champion.  With each turn of the page hate morphed into something stronger, something built on the foundation of past pain in a sweet and sensual journey to HEA.  Theirs was a journey of twists and turns, hurt and healing, and it kept me glued to their journey to HEA.

This was a fast-paced read with larger than life characters, characters who weren't just black and white in their actions.  They were perfectly imperfect characters who pushed all of my emotional buttons as I hurt with each hurt they endured and smiled with their rare moments of joy.  Just when you think they're heading to happiness, the story takes a dramatic turn that had me screaming before things were made right in a bittersweet ending.  With the turn of the final page I'm left satisfied but more than ready to jump back into this gritty world.  I'm now left impatiently waiting for Joker and Crow to tell their story, stories that will be emotionally raw and require lots of tissues.
