MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Fans of MC romances will be drawn to this quick slice of life look into an unforgettable day in the life of the Unacceptables MC.  It’s an event that’s heartbreaking, but also gritty in its depiction, with responses that speak volumes about the men and women of this MC.  Readers get a taste of what brotherhood means too, as well as having the groundwork laid for other character’s life journeys courtesy of the tempting tastes given here.  Fans of this series will love to see how Ryder came to be a member, love to see how he and Raine first met in a crackling connection that becomes its own enthralling tale.

For those unfamiliar with this series, it will entice you into reading more.  With its edge of your seat action, sensuality, and with banter between the Brothers that’s both snarky yet supportive, you’ll find this novella as addictive as I did and ready to add this series to your bookshelf.

EXCERPT:

“This place is beautiful,” he said when she hesitated.
She nodded but didn’t move from her seat. “I love it here. I went to college in Denver, but I always missed this place. When I was younger, my dad had a house in Creede. He started the business there, but when he could, he moved us out of town. My dad was a loner, I suppose. Creede has a population of four hundred and Dad thought that was way too many people.”
“I know the feeling. I lived in London for a while. That was definitely too many people.” He kept his tone even. It was odd. Now that he was here, that hunger he always felt was tempered by her fear. He’d thought he would take anything offered to him, but he couldn’t having met her. If the blonde had offered herself up, he would have turned her down. Over the two hours they’d sat in the booth, eating fried food and drinking beer, he’d figured something out. Some people were more special than others. River was special. He should be more cynical. He could hear Damon Knight telling him to be cautious, but he couldn’t make himself do it. Perhaps it was the fact that he didn’t have a long well of history to draw from and to teach him that this was likely a mistake.
It didn’t feel like a mistake.
“Wow. I’ve never been farther than Kansas City.” She still wasn’t moving and her voice had taken on a tremulous tone.
His heart constricted, and it was surprisingly easy to not listen to his dick. His dick was pleading with him to get aggressive. His dick was trying to convince him that if he could get inside her, she would accept him.
Yeah, he wasn’t going to listen to his dick.
“If you’ve changed your mind, I can call my brother to pick me up. I have a phone and so does he. His number is programmed in. I don’t want to scare you. I had a good time talking to you tonight. It was one of the nicest nights I’ve had in a long time.” Ever. It was the best night ever. It was the first night he felt normal, though he wasn’t exactly sure what that word meant. Comfortable was a better one. That tight feeling in his chest had eased as he’d sat in the booth with River and Tucker and Heather.
Although he’d hated lying to her.
She finally turned, looking at him. Her eyes shone in the moonlight. “You mean that, don’t you?”
He wanted to touch her. He’d had to force his hands not to move toward her all night long. The most he’d allowed himself was to have their hips and shoulders touch as they’d sat next to each other. He’d decided it had been a good thing he’d sat next to her because he was fairly certain he had a case of Big Tag’s crazy eyes, and she would have seen them had he sat across from her.
“I do mean it. Please don’t get me wrong. I want you. I would like nothing more in the world than to take you into that cabin, lay you out, and make a feast of you. I want to kiss you and when I say that I don’t merely mean your lips. I want to put my mouth all over your body. But more than I want that, I want you to like me.” It was important somehow. He wouldn’t see her after tonight, but he couldn’t stand the idea that she was afraid of him.
Everyone was afraid of him. Everyone he knew was waiting for his powder keg to blow, but he’d sworn to himself earlier in the evening that it wouldn’t blow around her. He would protect her even if it was only for one night.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Bringing together two of her past series, Ms. Blake gives readers a sensual and suspenseful series starter that will leave them wanting more.  She takes readers to a dark place throughout this story, courtesy of the main couple’s painful pasts, before giving them a bit of light in this tale’s hard-fought HEA that’s just the beginning for a group of men trying to find themselves.

Jax, along with five other young men, endured years of pain and degradation at the hands of a madwoman before being rescued.  He remembers nothing of his life before three years ago except what he was forced into doing by a doctor bent on creating the perfect super soldier but he’s determined to find out the truth about himself.  To do that, he’ll need the help of a guarded nature guide in finding a secret underground lab where some of the experiments were performed.  During the treacherous journey he’ll find himself instantly attracted to the woman teeming with trust issues while still dealing with guilt over his own past actions which pulled at my heartstrings.  Jax is an appealing character, mysterious yet charming in his awkwardness.  He appears naive at times yet knowing the strength contained within him reminded me of how dangerous he could be. He’s an interesting dichotomy and I was rooting for him to find his past so he could make a future with River.

River’s got her own issues with a painful past of deception at the hands of a con man who professed his love for her before taking everything from her.  The recent death of her father has added to her sadness and all she wants to do is run away from it all.  Being a nature guide in the middle of nowhere is the perfect solution as she can lick her wounds with little interaction with others.  One night at a bar though introduces her to a man hurting just like her and it leads to an unforgettable connection that’s tainted from the start because of outside interference.  Fate is determined to put them together and it’s not long before she joins him in a dangerous journey to discover his past and keep it from happening to others.  River’s at a very low point at the start of the story.  Her self-esteem is in tatters and she doesn’t understand what Jax sees in her.  Their night together was supposed to instill confidence in her, but his brother’s interference left her feeling used again.  It’s a rocky start to their journey to discover the truth, one where danger lurks while they work through their emotional conflicts, and it kept me on the edge of my seat.  Through all the twists and turns though I wished for more from River, I wished she were a stronger heroine as Ms. Blake is so good at crafting them.  While I can understand her pain I wish she believed more in herself, but I’m glad she has Jax who loves her unconditionally.  As he grows, I hope she will as well in a romance that I hope we get to revisit in future installments.

This is a solid start to a new series that combines the best of both worlds, two of Ms. Blake’s beloved series, to keep me entertained.  It’s not as scorching as her other works but the romance between Jax and River kept me rooting for them every step of the way in this angst-fueled story.  Both have painful pasts but are dealing with them very differently.  Jax is living instead of hiding away like River.  He’s making up for lost time, experiencing things to learn who he is, while River seems stuck.  Having Jax in her life opened a door for her and I hope she continues to walk through it with him by her side as they’re good for each other.  Alongside this appealing main couple were The Lost Boys who were an equally intriguing cast of characters.  They had eclectic personalities, different talents and looks, but their bond was strong.  Their interactions were familial, snarky yet supportive, and I can’t wait to get to know each of them better.  Fans of Ms. Blake will enjoy this blended story, enjoy the reunion of past characters, while new fans will be counting down the days until the next installment.

My rating for this is a B-

EXCERPT:

Brooke watched as Scott poured a double shot of liquor and drained it. He faced her long enough for her to see him say, “I’m sorry. It looks like we’ll have to wait to go see Zack.”

When he turned back to pour another, Brooke put her laptop down, hurried to him, and covered the glass with her hand, shaking her head back and forth. She worried about him. The cops would be back to talk to him, and she didn’t want him to be drunk when they did.
She took his hand away from the glass and traced, S.O.B.E.R.
He gave her a humorless grin. “Do you really think you want me sober right now?”
It wasn’t so much his words as the look in his green eyes that scared her, and she backed away from him.
He advanced. “If you don’t want me to drink, you’re going to have to give me something else to do.”
Gulping, she retreated further, and her back bumped the wall behind her. In the next instant he was standing right in front of her. Grasping her face between his hands, he tilted her head up and kissed her.
Brooke spread her arms wide in surprise, and he came closer, trapping her to the wall. She had no time to object, and she didn’t want to. He kissed her hard, the anger she sensed earlier radiating out of him. It should have scared her, but it didn’t. She wanted more.

Book Spotlight on Going Down Easy by Erin Nicholas (Review & GIVEAWAY)

Two single parents full of doubts find themselves trying to balance parenthood with romance in this contemporary tale set in the sensual city of New Orleans.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Going Down Easy by Erin Nicholas, along with my impressions of it, then add it to your bookshelf.  In honor of this first installment in the Boys of the Big Easy series make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a digital copy of this book along with a $25 Amazon GC too!

Wooing a Woman: New Orleans Edition with Erin Nicholas
My newest book, Going Down Easy, is a hot, contemporary romance set in one of the sexiest cities in the country: New Orleans. I’ve loved New Orleans since my first visit there in 2011 and have been back multiple times. I fall more in love with the place every time I’m there. There’s just something about the city that I can’t explain but that keeps me coming back. The music, the history, the laid-back attitude, the food…there’s just so much to love. So finally, the right characters and stories came along and it was time to write a series set there. Here's a little bit about my characters and book...
Gabe Trahan: dirty-talking, charming, and a little bit sweet bar owner in the French Quarter. Has lots of friends and close to his family. Has a slow, sexy drawl, panty-melting grin. And a son, Cooper, who is five years old.
Addison Sloan: restoration architect who comes to New Orleans from New York City once a month to consult on a new project with a local firm. Confident, independent (very), smart, sassy. Loves dirty-talk in a slow Louisiana drawl. And jazz. And beignets. And pralines. And pretty much anything related to New Orleans. She’s also a single mom to five-year-old Stella.
How they meet: Addison comes into Gabe’s bar with a friend. The chemistry is immediate. And Addison’s love for New Orleans is obvious. Even the mention of beignets makes her eyes sparkle, she melts when she hears jazz, she loves the café au lait, the horse-drawn carriages—just everything. Gabe’s never been much of a romantic, but suddenly he wants to get that sexy, sweet look on her face as often as possible. (You can actually read all about this in "Easy Going", the prequel novella! Check out Goodreads to find it ;)
So whenever Addison is in town they go to jazz clubs, eat all the traditional New Orleans dishes—gumbo, crawfish, pralines—and they take in everything about the city. And Addison gives him a new appreciation for his home town. Though, their favorite place is definitely the balcony on the apartment above Gabe’s bar. For lots of reasons ;) (Did I mention the prequel novella? "Easy Going". Goodreads).
Then, everything changes. Addison is moving to New Orleans to take a permanent job with the firm…and she has no time or energy or interest in a full-blown, all-the-time, same-city relationship.
But Gabe’s not giving up.
He has every intention of using Addison’s weakness for New Orleans and the south “against” her in a huge play for her heart. So how does he do it? Read on for hero Gabe Trahan's Seven EASY(ish) Steps To Woo A Woman in New Orleans:
Step #1
Start off with reminding her of the sweet stuff about being with you in New Orleans. Send a basket of pralines and Magnolias. Be romantic. Do not mention dirty stuff on the card. Probably.
Step #2
Turn up the heat. Send her some beignets and an extra bag of powdered sugar to remind her of the night on your balcony where lots of other things ended up with sugar on them. Maybe mention the dirty stuff on the card now. Or again.
Step #3
Invite her on a horse-drawn carriage ride around the Quarter. Make it impossible for her to say no by sending the invite with a bottle of Pimm’s No. 1 and tell her that there’s going to be a parade at the end. She can’t resist a parade.
Step #4
Have your mutual friends suggest a night out on the town to her and then surprise her by joining them at Preservation Hall for the jazz show. Make sure you show up just before it starts. There’s no way she’ll yell at you when she can be listening to jazz. She’ll very likely let you stand really close and wrap your arms around her like you’ve done all the other times she’s heard a jazz trumpet. You can say some dirty things in her ear here. For sure.
Step #5
A few days later, send her a book about alligators. Make sure it’s something her five-year-old daughter will be interested in. A coloring book with alligator trivia would be perfect. Insert a brochure for a swamp boat tour in the book. Text her the next day and suggest you all go on the swamp boat tour together.
Step #6
After a day in the sun on the bayou with your kids, invite her to a masquerade ball. Be sure to mention it’s at a plantation. And that she gets to wear a ball gown. And a mask, of course. And that there will be mint juleps. She’ll be putty in your hands. This is your chance to do a few dirty things.
Step #7
In the end, even if some of the other stuff has failed, use the Ace up your sleeve. Show up on her doorstep with a pot of your grandma’s gumbo and tell her that you’re madly in love with her and that if she’ll let you in, she’ll be able to have that gumbo regularly for the rest of her life. No one can say no to grandma’s gumbo.

As far as flings go, single dad Gabe Trahan is pretty sure that Addison Sloan is his best bet. Once a month, Addison comes to New Orleans and then…It. Is. On. Until Addison returns to New York, it’s just hot, happily-no-strings-attached sex. And beignets. And jazz. But lately for Gabe, it isn’t nearly enough.
Sure, maybe Addison’s gotten a bit hooked on Gabe. After all, who can resist a guy who’s so sexy, so charming, and so…available? But maybe he’s too available for her right now. Addison’s just moved to New Orleans, and relationships are definitely off the table. Besides, guys always bail when they learn her secret: she’s a single mom.
Only Gabe’s not running. Worse, he’s thrilled. But Addison never signed up for ever-after romance, and Gabe won’t settle for anything less. Now it’s a battle of wills—and when it comes to the woman he’s falling for, Gabe isn’t above playing a little dirty.

EXCERPT:

Gabe had sent her flowers.
Addison stood staring at the gigantic bouquet of white flowers sitting on the desk she was using for the day.
“These are magnolias, right?” she asked Elena.
“They are. The state flower of Louisiana.” Elena stroked the petal of one of the gorgeous flowers. “Someone knows your weakness for all things New Orleans.”
He definitely did. Addison hadn’t even needed to read the card to know who the flowers were from. Gabe knew she was a sucker for anything that was traditionally associated with the city. Beignets, bourbon, masks, beads, gas lanterns, and balconies with looping wrought iron railings. For six months he’d been taking her out on the Sunday she was in town and letting her soak up the city. And now she’d gone from associating those things with New Orleans and the unique spirit of the city to associating them with him.
But why was he sending her flowers? That was new. So far, their routine was she showed up at the bar on Saturday night, they spent the weekend together, she left on Monday morning, and then thirty days later, they repeated it all over again. There was no contact in between times. No texts or calls—they didn’t have each other’s number. No letters or gifts—he didn’t have her address. And definitely no flowers.
“See you soon, Gabe,” Elena read from the card. She lifted her eyes, meeting Addison’s. “Gabe? Who’s Gabe?” Then her eyes widened. “Wait. These aren’t from Gabe Trahan, are they?"
Oh, crap. Addison took a deep breath, thought briefly about lying, and then realized there was no real reason to not tell her friend the truth. “Yes.”
Elena’s eyes widened, almost as if she hadn’t expected that answer. “Really? You’ve seen him since that first night?”
Addison rounded the desk and set the folder she was carrying on top of the nearest stack, straightening the pile of already straight files. “Yes,” she said simply. The fewer details she offered, the better, probably.
“When?” Elena asked. “I had no idea you’d seen him again.”
And then it hit Addison . . . Elena wasn’t just her friend anymore. She was Addison’s boss. Was this going to reflect badly on her? Was a just-when-she-was-in-town affair something Elena would frown upon?
“I didn’t think it was important to mention. We just . . . went out a couple of times.” They had. They’d gone out to Preservation Hall for jazz. They’d gone to Café du Monde for coffee and beignets. They’d gone to the French Market. They’d gone to Gabe’s bedroom. And his shower. And his kitchen table. And his balcony...
“You’re dating Gabe Trahan?” Elena asked, planting her hands on her hips.
“No,” Addison said quickly. “Not dating. We’ve had . . . drinks when I’ve been in town.” And many, many orgasms. And laughs. And fun.
“Which time?” Elena asked.
“Which time what?”
“Which time that you were in town did you have drinks?”
Addison sighed. “Each time."
“You’ve seen him every time you’ve been in town since you met him?” Elena asked, clearly shocked.
“Yes. But,” Addison added before Elena could go on, “it’s nothing serious. It’s been . . . a fling. Just a little fun. No big deal. And”—she took a deep breath—“this weekend was the last time. Now that I’ve moved here, I won’t be seeing him anymore.”
Saying it out loud made her heart clench even harder than it had when she’d driven away from him that morning.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

In this series starter readers will get a modern day look at dating and single parenting wrapped up in a charming yet scorching package that kept me glued to the pages from the first page to the last.  With a delicious hero, and a heroine who’s a tough nut to crack, readers will find themselves captivated by the precarious balancing act this couple undertakes during their rocky road to HEA. It’s a journey that Ms. Nicholas vividly depicted to pull at the heartstrings of every parent and leaves me wanting more as I eagerly await the next installment.

Gabe Trahan was obsessed with Addison the moment she sat down at the bar he owns with his brother, Logan.  Their instant attraction led to an unforgettable night that set his bed on fire and every month thereafter he looked up to see her sitting in the same spot.  These weekends were an escape for him, an escape from real life where he focused on just the two of them, and he came to crave them and her.  Along with erotically-charged encounters Gabe took her on a whirlwind tour of New Orleans which helped him learn a bit about her, but not near enough, which is why he proposed something more long-term on the day she plans to break things off.  Fate intervenes though, giving her the job of a lifetime and him the opportunity to woo her, and he makes the most of it in a journey that’s sweet and sexy.  Gabe’s an immensely appealing hero, kind and patient.  He’s also a master at dirty talk and unafraid to wear his heart on his sleeve.  The other appealing thing about him is his love for his son, Cooper.  He’s a caring dad, worried about his son’s overcautious nature, but never wants to push him too hard as he’s a protective dad too.  I enjoyed their tender interactions that showed a softer side to Gabe.  It was a compelling dichotomy to see his naughty side in the bedroom balanced with the steady support he always showed to Cooper and his actions endeared him to me.

Addison Sloan grew up with a hard-hearted father who expected his daughters to clean up their own messes with little help from him.  Though she knew he loved them he never showed it, which has left its mark on her still today.  Addison’s not a very touchy-feely woman.  She’s someone who stands on her own two feet and prefers to count only on herself.  Her clandestine weekends with Gabe showed a completely different woman though.  With him she embraced each new experience fully, let him guide her in and out of the bedroom, and she soaked up each look and touch he lavished on her.  She too became obsessed with their weekends and it’s why she felt the need to end them...fear of losing herself and the belief that she can’t be both a mom and a lover.  Addison frustrated me a lot throughout this book.  Her occasional standoffishness and cold upbringing was starting to leave a mark on her daughter as Addison’s need to be self-reliant took away some of the warmer interactions they could’ve had.  Her belief that only she was capable enough to care for her daughter left not only Addison but Stella too with very few friends.  Being around Gabe and his son gave both of them the chance to open up and the more time they spent together the more familial they became in a journey full of roadblocks erected by Addison’s doubts and fears.

On a whole this was an entertaining romance with a nice balance of sexiness and dealing with life issues.  Those issues, that of coping as a single parents while finding your own HEA, were dealt with realistically and played out during the weekly support group for other single parents.  The members of the group were immensely appealing, they were characters who were larger than life in their realism, and the glimpses readers got of their backgrounds have me longing for their own stories to be told.  Gabe was a near-perfect hero, understanding and immensely patient while Addison worked through her issues.  He was charming and funny and his time with his son was precious in its portrayal.  Addison was much harder to warm up to as I felt that she purposely sabotaged her happiness.  She often seemed focused on what could go wrong instead of what was oh so right.  At times I didn’t think her worthy of Gabe’s greatness but by the end she pulled me a bit closer to seeing her side of things.  As a reader who doesn’t normally care for children in romances, I was pleasantly surprised by how well Ms. Nicholas incorporated them into this story.  They were truly cute kids, little mini adults wise beyond their years.  They might’ve been opposites in many ways but their interactions were supportive and I felt the love and warmth radiating off this unlikely group on the verge of becoming a family.  This was a satisfying start to a series that is a loving homage to New Orleans, that redefines what makes a family, and lays the groundwork for what promises to be another heartwarming tale featuring the sexy player Logan and a single mom from the support group.

My rating for this is a B.

We met on a Tuesday.
Became best friends, then lovers, on a Tuesday.
And everything fell apart on a Tuesday...
Charlotte Taylor has three automatic strikes in my book: 1) She hates me. She also claims that I’m a “domineering jerk with a huge, overbearing ego.” (I do have something huge. It’s not my ego, though.) 2) She takes our mandatory tutoring sessions way too seriously. 3) She’s sexy as hell…And a virgin.
At least, those were her strikes before our study sessions started lasting longer than they were supposed to. Until one innocent kiss became a hundred dirty ones, and until she became the first woman I ever fell hard for.
Our future together after graduation was supposed to be set:
Professional football for me. Law school for her.
But she left me at the end of the semester with no explanation, and then she completely disappeared from my life.
Until tonight.
We met on a Tuesday.
Became everything, then nothing, on a Tuesday.
And now it’s seven years later, on a Tuesday...
*This is a full length second chance romance, inspired by Adele’s “When We Were Young”.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS AUDIOBOOK:

From the moment I started reading this second chance romance I found myself with a smile on my face.  With its fun and flirty banter and charming and patient hero I was captivated by the slow burn relationship between apparent opposites and their tug of war interactions.  Experiencing this in audiobook format pulled me even further into this couple’s journey and kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for the misunderstandings of the past to finally be buried.

Grayson Connors was the quintessential star college football player, cocky and popular with the ladies.  At least that’s what people saw when they looked at him.  In flashbacks though we saw a young man dedicated to his sport and to his studies, growing bored with the rest of the superficiality.  While his friend seemed to enjoy all the extracurricular activities, Grayson clearly longed for something more and it’s what drove him to chase after Charlotte as hard as he did.  His interactions with Charlotte started off as friends, playful before turning into verbal foreplay, and I hung on every interaction.  Grayson charmed me wholeheartedly, his dedication to Charlotte making me smile as he never pushed her for more than she was ready to give.  He was self-assured, confident in himself, but never arrogant and I was endeared by his words and deeds.  Just when his HEA was within reach though everything fell apart with Charlotte leaving without a trace.  Seven years later puts them face to face once again, giving him the chance to learn what went wrong.  The years gone by were heartbreaking for him and I was angered by Charlotte’s treatment of him. He’s still the sweet hero he was as a young man though...waiting for Charlotte and proving his devotion to her is unending.

Charlotte Taylor was the studious good girl in college.  Dedicated to her studies but slowly trying to break free of her sheltered childhood.  She was regimented in many ways, lived on a permanent schedule, but the flashes of feistiness directed at others had me warming up to her very quickly.  She wasn’t very outgoing at the start of her college career but being around Grayson had her branching out to live life to the fullest.  She mocked him endlessly when they first met in an entertaining war of words, through flirty and witty banter where she gave as good as she got, that quickly became more sensual.  Though she felt somewhat intimidated by the groupies and his reputation, she couldn’t keep fighting their connection forever and I literally cheered when they got together. Happiness didn’t last forever though, and for that I blame Charlotte.  She let her doubts and fears take control, forgetting how loving and loyal Grayson always was.  After seven years, he was still waiting and her continuing to hurt him left me frustrated.  Her actions overall diminished her in my eyes and despite how likable she was as a friend, I’m not convinced she’ll ever be fully worthy of Grayson.

This was a fast-paced read told in dual POVs where each side got to share their feelings and fears.  Past interactions were beautifully balanced with the here and now to tell a sexy and sweet tale of second chances.  Grayson and Charlotte were opposites in many ways but together they just worked courtesy of their crackling connection in and out of the bedroom.  Their interactions were teeming with sexual tension, leading to scorching encounters that were seared into my brain.  The voice actors, Erin Mallon and Joseph Discher, did a delightful job in bringing their characters to life and I was quickly captivated once their voices emerged from my speakers.  Overall there were many reasons to love this story, from the sizzling romance to the laugh out loud friendships.  The biggest disappointment though was the reason why Charlotte ran away all those years ago.  The reason isn’t revealed until late in the story and the reveal just left me sad, sad for all the years wasted.  It was a Big Misunderstanding perpetuated by Charlotte’s doubts and it forever altered my impressions of her. Thank heavens for Grayson though who was the bright spot in this story and still shows up nightly in my dreams.  He’s the quintessential book boyfriend! Other highlights were Charlotte’s friend, Nadira, who often spoke without a filter and pushed her friend into breaking out of her self-induced bubble.  Grayson’s friend Kyle was an unrepentant horndog, overly cocky too, but I still found him endearing and quick to make me laugh.  This pair were larger than life, leaving an indelible mark in every scene they were in, and I’d love to see more of them in the future.  On a whole this was a romance that sparkled as an audiobook, putting a modern yet naughty spin on the proverbial bedtime story, and I recommend the hard-fought HEA found in this book to all lovers of romance.

My rating for this is a B+

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Readers looking for a little afternoon delight will find just that with this fun and flirty read of roommates who quickly become oh so much more.  It’s a quick read full of charm as two people hurt by love in the past find themselves drawn to each other despite all the odds against them in a tale that will keep you glued to the pages.

Trevor’s a sexy and studious college student who thought all was well between him and his girlfriend before receiving a goodbye note on his refrigerator.  Not only is he left brokenhearted by her leaving, he’s also now desperate to find a new roommate. Fate has great timing though as his favorite professor is looking for a place for her niece to move into and it’s the first step in a journey full of changes for someone who’s always been focused on his studies to the exclusion of living life to the fullest. It’s a journey that catches him off guard and has him feeling things he’s never felt before and it leads to a few misunderstandings along the way.  Through it all Trevor’s an appealing hero, charming and sexy.  He’s had many casual relationships in the past but once he realizes how intense his feelings are for Natalie he’s fully committed to her.  Though he doesn’t always feel worthy of her, is told by his professor that he’s not a long-term guy, he quickly realizes he can’t stay away from her and makes his devotion clear. Trevor has a protective nature too, as seen by his concern for his sister, and it was often on display when he was around Natalie in scenes that endeared him to me.

Natalie’s looking to start over after being betrayed by love, cheated on by someone she thought was committed only to her.  Starting over at a new school has her sharing an apartment with the drool-worthy Trevor who quickly becomes a temptation she can no longer ignore.  They may start out as friends with him watching over her, as she tries to get out of the shell her sadness put her in, but their interactions soon take on an erotic feel that led to numerous scorching interactions. Natalie’s a likable heroine, studious like Trevor, and generous in her caregiving nature.  In looks she’s a librarian, but being around Trevor brings out a sex kittenish side that added spark to their pairing and like a moth to a flame he gave in to her wholeheartedly.

This was a quick read, a bit lacking in detail though as readers never got deep insight into either of these characters.  Readers get to see them in the here and now, with not much concern for the past and very little for the future.  This was an entertaining main couple with witty banter, both playful and sensual, and they had me cheering for them every step of the way as they dealt with Natalie jumping to an unwarranted conclusion along with melodramatic family intervention.  Their attraction was instant and led to lots of scorching interludes that will make readers see library bookshelves in a whole new light.  The story was too quickly wrapped up though, too easily dealt with, and in a way it gave an unfinished feel to the book.  Despite these small flaws this was still a delightful read and I look forward to reading about the burgeoning romance between Trevor’s sister and his friend hinted at throughout this book.

My rating for this is a B.

USA Today bestselling author Nana Malone‘s love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense novel she “borrowed” from her cousin.
It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She’s been in love with kick-butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination constantly channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.
While she waits for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, Nana works out her drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as brazen and kick-butt as she thinks she is.
