Book Tour for The Proposition by AM Salinger (REVIEW)

Friends take a forbidden turn into lovers in this scorching novella that will have readers blushing.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of The Proposition by AM Salinger, along with my impressions of this m/m contemporary read.  Once you’ve been fully tempted by this sixth installment in the Nights Series you’ll want to add it to your bookshelf!

They call me the Charmer. My best friend Wade tells me it’s because I’m suave and mysterious. But he doesn’t know my secret. The one I’ve kept hidden from him for twelve years. The one I will never reveal to him — Rhys
They call me The Brute. Probably because of my physique. And, let’s face it, because I’m a total dick at times. So Rhys likes to tell me anyway. Thing is, there’s something Rhys isn’t telling me. Something I’m dying to hear from his lips. His sinful confession. You see, I know Rhys’s secret — Wade
Rhys Damon has spent most of his adult life watching Wade Tucker bed woman after woman, his dark desire for his best friend and business partner a secret he is determined to take to his grave, since he knows it will never be reciprocated. With their design firm thriving across two continents, Rhys finds himself content burying his heartache in a string of meaningless, casual sex arrangements. Until the night everything changes.
When Wade Tucker stumbles upon his best friend calling out his name as he pleasures himself, he knows his relationship with Rhys will never be the same again. A year later, the memory of what Wade saw is still branded in his mind and his feelings for Rhys have evolved into something he never anticipated. As tension mounts and the relationship between the two business partners becomes increasingly strained, things finally come to a head the night Wade follows Rhys and discovers him with another man.
After an explosive confrontation, Wade makes Rhys a proposition he can’t refuse: that they try things out for six weeks. Six weeks of exploring a side of each other they never knew before. Six weeks of torrid kisses and sultry touches. Six weeks of screamingly good, scorching hot sex. Six weeks of utterly losing themselves to one another.
But as the end of their proposition looms in sight, can Wade persuade Rhys that he wants more? Or will Rhys’s deep-seated fears stop him from fully surrendering his heart and soul to the one man he thought he could never have?

EXCERPT:

Rhys opened the door of his condo and felt a draft of air on the back of his neck as Wade came in behind him. Rhys shrugged out of his coat, dropped it on a hook on the stand in the foyer, and turned to glare at the hulking figure standing silently a few feet from him.
Rhys folded his arms across his chest. “Well? What do you have to say for yourself?” he said coldly.
Wade took his coat off, threw it on the stand, and stormed past Rhys, his gorgeous face set in grim lines. Rhys ground his teeth together and turned to follow him into the lounge. Wade strode to the bar next to the floor-to-ceiling glass wall overlooking the terrace that wrapped around the condo, poured himself a Scotch, and downed it.
Despite the maelstrom of emotions that had been roaring through Rhys since the moment he’d seen Wade in Saron’s restroom, he couldn’t help but admire the way Wade’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed angrily.
Why couldn’t he just look like the Hunchback of Notre Dame for one goddamn second?
Rhys still couldn’t believe Wade had been there tonight. That Wade had seen him kissing Michael. That Wade had pulled Michael off him as if he had prior claim to Rhys himself, a claim Wade openly asserted when he said he was Rhys’s partner.
Rhys closed his eyes briefly before tugging at his necktie.
Well, that cat is well and truly out of the bag now. He knows I’m gay.
On the tail end of that thought came an unsettling realization.
And he doesn’t seem in the least bit bothered by it.
Not that Rhys thought for one minute Wade would act like a homophobe. It was just that admitting his sexuality to him would have put Wade a step closer to one day realizing that Rhys had feelings for him.
Another wave of guilt washed over Rhys when he recalled Michael’s expression while he’d been trying to convince the lawyer that he was going to be okay. As Michael finally left the club’s restroom, Rhys couldn’t miss the hurt look in his eyes when he’d cast a final glance at Wade. It had to be obvious to Michael that he bore a striking resemblance to the man who had barged in on the two of them and who stood glaring at the lawyer as if he were a child killer.
A heavy silence had fallen between Rhys and Wade after the door swung close behind Michael. Rhys had hesitated before heading for the exit. A hand had closed around his wrist in an iron grip before he could reach it, halting him in his tracks.
“Where are you going?” Wade said silkily.
Rhys’s heart pounded erratically as he looked from where Wade’s fingers lay against his skin, to the stormy blue eyes boring into him. He knew Wade could feel his racing pulse where he was touching him.
“Back to my apartment,” Rhys said in as stony a voice as he could muster.
“I’m coming with you,” Wade said gruffly.
“I didn’t expect anything less,” Rhys retorted.
To Rhys’s shock, Wade had kept a firm grip on his hand as they headed back into the club, as if he were afraid Rhys would run off and disappear into the night. And he didn’t let go even after they got in a cab and headed over to Rhys’s place. In fact, it wasn’t until they entered the lift that would take them up to the apartment that Wade finally relinquished his deadly hold on Rhys’s arm, the strained hush between them since they’d left the club’s restroom still in place.
Wade finished his drink, wiped his lips with the back of his hand, and turned to stare at Rhys.
“Why did you never tell me you were gay?”
Rhys swallowed a sigh. Here we go. “Because it’s none of your business.”
A muscle jumped in Wade’s cheek. “I’m your best friend.”
Rhys shrugged. “So? That doesn’t give you the right to know about my sex life.”
It does when I’m the subject of your fuck fantasies!” Wade roared.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Readers looking for a bit of afternoon delight will get just that with this m/m-fueled friends to lovers romance.  Teeming with eroticism readers will be left parched and blushing, courtesy of the numerous erotic encounters driving this story to its satisfying conclusion, while enjoying the friendship between two men caught off guard by new and unexpected feelings.  From the first page to the last readers will be caught up in a sensual haze that makes this an enjoyable addition to the Nights series.

Rhys and Wade have been friends for years, sharing a business and supporting each other unconditionally.  Something’s changed within the last year though, feelings and secrets come to light that are slowly changing everything.  Will their friendship survive or will giving in to temptation mean the end of their closeness?  It’s an important question that gives both of them pause, but not enough to keep them from scorching up the sheets in one encounter after another.  This is a story full of endless foreplay that had a lot of style but only a bit of substance.  Readers don’t get too deep of a glimpse into either of these men.  We get the most basic of facts while enjoying their fun and flirty banter. There’s only a moment of angst in a story that’s otherwise all about their changing friendship and their time spent between the sheets.  While I love stories that give a lot of bang for my buck, I would’ve loved to have gotten to know more about these characters on their own.  While the glimpses of them from earlier books in this series intrigued me, I felt a bit cheated here as we still don’t know much more about them than before.  That’s not to say that they’re not likable though, because they definitely are.  Their interactions brought a smile to my face as they were full of charm and playfulness.  They’re different in looks and demeanor but these differences carried into the bedroom to make their interludes even hotter in scenes that left me exhausted.

On a whole this was an entertaining read, a carefree one that didn’t require me to think.  I merely sat back and became captivated by the numerous erotic encounters.  I enjoyed the main characters and was rooting for them every step of the way as their friendship evolved into something more intense.  While this novella is a nice addition to Ms. Salinger’s series it’s not an earth-shattering one.  It’s the kind of story you read for pure escapism and at that it succeeds beautifully and it’s one I recommend to readers looking for a bit of steamy fun.

My rating for this is a C+

Book Spotlight on In Bed with the Enemy by Ellie Barker

Readers will become quickly enthralled by this continuation of a fast paced and highly entertaining trilogy, with diverse range of characters, various sexual encounters, and unconventional romance.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of In Bed with the Enemy by Ellie Barker then add this second installment in the Undercover Lovers series to your bookshelf.  Once you’ve been fully tempted by this tale make sure to grab the previous book, Secrets and Spies, while waiting for For Queen and Country, the final book to hit bookshelves on July 13th!

Nikolas Jinsen, police mole and mafia odd-job man, is given an ultimatum; stop seeing his girlfriend, or lose his job. When a hasty attempt to keep both goes wrong, he does the only thing he can think of: he lies. But with his new roommate a member of the elite gang that Nikolas has been tasked to look into, and his assignations with his girlfriend constantly interrupted by calls on his services as a lover, Nikolas finds that work isn't all fun and games.

EXCERPT:

I pulled out my phone.
Bear answered within two rings. “Nikolas! This is a pleasant surprise.”
“I changed my mind about that nightcap, if the offer’s still open,” I told him.
Why the change of heart?” He sounded a bit surprised.
“I can’t stop thinking about you.” And actually, it was true. I wanted to know what he was like in bed. How far down that beard went. What was under that suit. What he looked like when he came.
I thought you didn’t do one-offs?”
“Sky wants to hear all about it afterwards.”
I heard the bellow of laughter down the phone, and then he came back on the line, still chuckling. “Well, I can’t disappoint her, can I. When?”
“What’s wrong with now?”
Forty-five minutes later, I was getting out of a taxi at the foot of a tower block. Ten minutes had been picking up a bottle of wine that I liked, wondering if he’d like it, checking with Sky—who told me she didn’t have a fucking clue and I’d just got her killed, which meant she was playing something with Benny—and going back to my original choice. And now I was here, looking up at the lit windows above me and thinking about Tanya’s exhibitionism.
I’d wondered about getting a hotel room, but Bear had invited me over and I’d accepted. It meant if there was a trap I was walking into it, but then a hotel room had a veneer of anonymity that I didn’t necessarily like. Sky knew where I was going, and had offered to come and rescue me if needed—and that meant she could potentially bring both the Queen and Tanya’s resources down on someone’s head. Tanya Mardos didn’t care about much in the world, but I figured she’d probably have something to say if her current sex toy wasn’t available on demand.
And so I headed for the main door and pushed the button for the flat intercom.
Yes?” Bear’s voice said almost immediately.
“Nikolas.”
Come on up.”

Book Tour for Dark Pleasures by Aja James (Review & GIVEAWAY)

A relationship started on a lie soon takes a more emotional turn as a battle is waging that leaves lives hanging in the balance while opposites attract.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Dark Pleasures by Aja James, along with my impressions of this book, then discover even more about it by visiting the other sites hosting this tour.  In honor of this fourth installment in the Pure/Dark Ones series make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a $10 bookstore GC too!

Devlin Sinclair, the New England Dark Ones’ Hunter, is on a mission to track down the elusive and mysterious Medusa, perhaps the ultimate nemesis the Pure and Dark Ones have been battling in recent years.
But he can’t do it alone.
Grace Darling has isolated herself from the world since a very young age, after her parents’ death and because of her own social disability. Awkward and brilliant, a born sensualist, Grace agrees to a blind date that changes the course of Destiny.
She has the skills he needs. Their chemistry is off the charts, but will she, can she give him the love he craves?

EXCERPT:

It was the barely-there touch on her shoulder that decided Grace.
She would stay for a meal with the impostor Azor Ahai and take him home with her afterwards.
If the rash of sparks that his glancing touch generated was any indication, sex with him would be nigh incinerating, and she was in a state of utmost arousal this night.
Grace sat down and waited for the stranger to likewise settle in the seat across from her.
Her arousal wasn’t due to him, though aesthetically speaking, he was a priceless work of art:
Golden-honey waves of hair streaked with sunlight, perfectly symmetrical and evenly spaced features, dark blonde brows arching elegantly over heavily lashed bright blue eyes, the type of blue that sapphires envied.
A blade of a nose that drew attention to sculpted cheek bones and the fundamentally masculine hollows beneath, a wide, full mouth that looked like it smiled a lot, bracketed by faint grooves that hinted at dimples.
There were adjectives that most people might use to describe such a face. Handsome was too bland. Beautiful did not do justice to his overwhelming maleness. Gorgeous suggested something showy, not quite authentic.
This man knew full well the impact his looks had on others, and used it to further his own goals—like finagling a dinner with Grace even though he must know that she didn’t buy his impersonation.  But he didn’t dwell on his magnificence (was that the right adjective?); he didn’t invite attention.
He used it like a shield. A mirror to deflect attempts to see beyond the exterior. A mask that hid the man inside.
Grace’s adjective for him was: intriguing.
And as she was hardly ever intrigued by anything, she decided to see how this would play out.
But equally, she simply wanted to jump his bones. Because his touch set her afire.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

After a clever recap of the series storyline thus far from a beloved character, readers will become quickly captivated by this paranormal romance of opposites attracting.  With its near-perfect blend of sensuality, suspense, and the paranormal, readers will be on the edge of their seats as they frantically turn the pages to see what happens next.  By the turn of the final page readers will be left with one heckuva cliffhanger that will have them waiting in breathless anticipation for the next installment.

Devlin Sinclair comes from a time of gentlemanly manners, orchestrated flirtations, and distinct roles for men and women.  As a vampire he’s evolved since then but still calls on his well-known charm when he needs to get information from a tech genius who’s the only one who can help them find his people’s enemy.  All his usual charms, everything he’s learned about women in the past, doesn’t help him one bit once he meets Grace.  Theirs is an extraordinary romance, full of unexpected delights, and it made for an entertaining journey to a hard-fought HEA.  Through it all Devlin balances his romantic side with his need to get information in his role as a hunter.  He’s caught off guard by Grace but is drawn to her and does everything he can to make a place in her life for himself and a place for her in his despite the emotional baggage from his past.  It’s a dangerous journey too, one that kept their HEA in jeopardy, but it had me rooting for them every step of the way. Devlin’s an immensely appealing hero, sexy and supportive, who’s known for his ways with women.  His confusion over Grace’s unfiltered reactions to being romanced made this story even more enjoyable and had me falling for him even more.

Grace Darling’s a very unique heroine and I applaud Ms. James for crafting yet another unforgettable character in a series of delightful characters.  Grace is a tech genius, happy in her own little world after the death of her parents.  She has few connections, except for an aunt, and likes it that way as she never again wants to put her heart on the line.  The moment she meets Devlin she knows what he wants, she’s far too smart to be fooled.  He, however, has no idea what to expect from her and it was an entertaining and hilarious journey of discovery for both of them.  Grace is a high functioning autistic and has difficulty understanding and expressing emotions, but with a computer there’s nothing she can’t do.  She’s a very straight-forward person and I enjoyed her bluntness and easy acceptance of the strange new world Devlin introduces her to.  As a disabled person myself I appreciate Ms. James’s positive interpretation of disability and sexuality in scenes that were scorching yet full of heart and soul. Grace might have problems expressing herself emotionally but when it came to her feelings for Devlin, things couldn’t have been clearer in an ending that pulled at my heartstrings before pulling the rug out from underneath me in an exhilarating cliffhanger.

This is a series that just keeps getting better and better!  The storyline is becoming more layered with world-building that‘s vividly depicted that sets it apart from other paranormal series.  The characters are all likable and distinct with good and evil not always clear cut.  The romance is strong with moments of playfulness and eroticism beautifully balanced with action and suspense. Glimpses of past characters are plentiful with some story threads tied up while others start to unravel in a tale that kept me on edge from the first page to the cliffhanger ending.  Though this book can be read on its own, readers will find it a much richer experience to have read the previous books first.  These characters, this world, have quickly become an addiction and I can’t recommend this series enough as it’s the very best representation of paranormal romance out there!

My rating for this is an A+

Book Tour for Inked Nights by Carrie Ann Ryan (REVIEW)

A once-a-month tryst suddenly takes an unexpected turn when names and feelings get in the way of carefree encounters.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Inked Nights by Carrie Ann Ryan, a contemporary novella where the past affects a couple’s hopes for the future.  You’ll also get my impressions of this sensual read which will have you wanting to add this eighth installment in the Montgomery Ink series to your bookshelf!

Tattoo artist, Derek Hawkins knows the rules:
One night a month.
No last names.
No promises.
Olivia Madison has her own rules:
Don’t fall in love.
No commitment.
Never tell Derek the truth.
When their worlds crash into each other however, Derek and Olivia will have to face what they fought to ignore as well as the connection they tried to forget.

WATCH THE BOOK TRAILER here.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Four years of once-a-month carefree encounters come crashing to a halt with the discovery of a name, and the unexpected connection surrounding that name, in this engaging novella.  As readers are once again brought into the world of the close-knit Montgomery family emotions are boldly bared with the past making a profound affect on the future.  From the first page to the last readers will be left hanging in the balance, waiting for this conflicted couple to be brave enough to put their hearts on the line to reach HEA.

Derek’s become addicted to his monthly encounters with the woman he knows only as O, but lately he’s been wanting more.  Where once their short time together left him satisfied, he’s now left feeling frustrated with longing.  With all his friends and co-workers pairing off, seeing the Montgomery’s happy and complete with their significant others, has him wanting that for himself and making the decision to change the rules by giving O his name.  It’s a moment that changes everything by opening up their painful pasts and reminding them of a connection that time had erased.  With their future HEAs left in doubt, Derek will have to stand up for what his heart wants and convince O that their future is more important than the past in this quick yet satisfying read.  Derek’s an appealing hero, what little bits we see of him as this novella doesn’t dig too deeply into either of their lives.  He’s a devoted son carrying a lot of guilt while dealing with his mother’s unending grief which leaves little time for his own happiness.  His encounters with O were a respite from it all and he soon wants the feelings she engenders in him for more than just one night and is willing to sacrifice everything to claim her wholeheartedly.  His bold actions left me cheering, as did his quick turn-around from her surprising reveal to once again put his heart in her hands.  He’s a delicious hero, sexy in his looks and sweet with his words, and he’s was a definite highlight of this story.

Four years ago Olivia’s unpleasant blind date ended with her drinking alone in a hotel bar.  That moment changed everything though as it introduced her to a burly, sexy, tattooed man known as D.  Their satisfying and unforgettable night together set them on a path of once-a-month encounters that started out casual but have slowly become more profound in the feelings both of them are left with in the morning.  When D unexpectedly changes the rules, their future is left in doubt as her painful past collides with his to taint what they have now and what they could have in the future.  Readers will be left hanging too as both of them work through the painful truth to decide if they can have a future beyond their once-a-month interludes.  Olivia’s a likable heroine who lives a solitary life revolving around books.  She’s formed few connections as a childhood tragedy left her heart broken and unwilling to open herself up to more pain.  Being with Derek was the one time she opened up her heart to someone else and it was a freeing sight to see full of happiness and sensuality.  Being with Derek also brings her into the warm embrace of the Montgomery family, gives her the chance to form more connections outside of the imaginative world of books she escaped to.  On a whole I liked Olivia and was rooting for her to put aside her unnecessary childhood guilt to make a HEA of her own.

This was a quick read, a satisfying one full of heart with a nice dab of sexiness. The issue that arose between them was a bit overblown though, especially in Olivia’s mind, but the issue was thankfully resolved quickly in a way that warmed my heart courtesy of the delicious hero.  The main couple was immensely likable with interactions full of heartfelt banter as well as unrelenting sensuality whenever they were next to each other and I was rooting for them every step of the way.  They were a seamless addition to the Montgomery family and I enjoyed seeing the familial vibe surrounding all these characters to make this an enjoyable addition to this long-running series.  It’s a tale that ultimately made for an afternoon full of delights that I recommend to fans of Ms. Ryan as well as those those looking for a story with a nice bit of substance and style.

My rating for this is a B+

EXCERPT:

I tried to keep myself from wincing. “No, that’s all right. I don’t need to talk about anything.”
“Okay, then you listen while I do the talking.” He moved toward me and came to a stop directly in front of me. “I’m only here for a short time.”
He didn’t say anything else so I guessed that was his big ta-da moment. But I still didn’t understand what that had to do with me. “Okay. So what does that have to do with last night?”
“I’m a drifter. I never stay in one place long. It keeps things from getting too complicated that way.”
“Well, I sure the hell didn’t ask you to stay for the summer. That’s on you…or possibly your uncle.”
“I know that.” He sighed. “Look, I just need a quiet place to lay low for a while until I figure out where I’m heading next. But once I do, I’m leaving.”
“So? I still don’t get—“
He held up a hand to stop me. “You aren’t the type of woman who’s okay with being left behind.”
I wasn’t sure why that statement annoyed me, but it did. “You don’t know anything about me.”
He shrugged one muscled shoulder. “Let’s just say that I’m more perceptive than you think.”
“Apparently not. Because I have news for you, Seth. Last night, I planned on taking you back to my home, having my way with you, and kicking your ass out of my bed before the sun came up.”
“Oh, I know,” he said with a grin. “But you wouldn’t have asked me to leave once you got me into bed. That’s why I stopped the whole thing from happening.”
I rolled my eyes so hard that they hurt. “You really must think you’re something to make a statement like that. Maybe it would’ve been the other way around. Ever thought of that? Perhaps you would’ve been begging me to let you stay while my foot shoved your ass out the door.”
His mouth quirked with amusement. Yeah, he wasn’t buying it for a minute. Maybe he really was more perceptive than I thought. After all, he was related to Junior. “Is that a challenge?” he asked smugly.
Jeez. Was there no end to this guy’s arrogance?
His gaze scanned down my body and back up to my chest as he said, “Don’t get me wrong, Bobbie. I’m not the right guy for you. You clearly need someone who is going to stick around on a more permanent basis. That’s not me. But I’m more than happy to keep you warm until he shows up.”
Figures. Seth Landry had a special skill-set, all right, but it had nothing to do with hammering nails and everything to do with getting tangled in sheets. Because if that kiss he’d planted on me last night was any indication, the man wasn’t lying about his skills in the bedroom. That was one thing I would bet my life on.

Book Tour for Six Weeks With a Lord by Eve Pendle (GIVEAWAY)

Fans of historical romances will find themselves captivated by this tale that features a marriage of convenience where feelings soon become all too real.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Six Weeks With a Lord by Eve Pendle, then add it to your bookshelf.  In honor of this unforgettable romance make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a $15 Amazon GC too!

Grace Alnott is out of time. To save her younger brother from an abusive guardian, her merchant father’s will demands she must marry a peer. Handsome but destitute Everett Hetherington, Earl of Westbury agrees to her offer of a marriage of convenience but stipulates she must live with him for six weeks. No matter how honorable he seems she can’t allow him to get too close, because the aristocracy cannot be trusted.
Six weeks. Major Everett Hetherington, new Earl of Westbury, has exactly six weeks to convince the very independent Grace Alnott to spend the rest of her life with him. Despite her belief she doesn't belong in his world, he must tempt the alluring Grace into staying, because he has fallen for her. Hard. He just has to ensure she never discovers his secret.

EXCERPT:

“I suppose you think me selfish to not want to marry a man I neither love nor respect.” Her mouth was tight. “But I refuse to martyr myself by marrying Lord Rayner, when the result would be a totally powerless state after the marriage.”
Ah. Just a vague fear of a bad marriage. It seemed rather superficial to want love more than wanting to stay with family, but hadn’t he been cautious about marrying the wrong person? And as a man, all he had to be concerned about was a lack of conjugal bliss, not actual bodily harm. He was the owner, not the property.
“I can understand wanting love in your marriage.” He let his tone dip as he said the words and was gratified to see an answering visceral reaction in Grace. She flushed. This was where he would link the attraction between them with something more. “You know, love can grow in surprising places.”
