EXCERPT:

“Ready?” Jolee asked, her knees tightening slightly as she wrapped her feet behind his back to secure her position.
“Ready,” he said as the announcer finished his intro. Truitt made a kissing noise, and Nell started forward. By the time they entered through the arena gate, Nell was running at a gallop. People clapped and cheered as Jolee and Truitt waved to them while circling the arena.
Truitt pulled Nell back to a lope, then Jolee did a few moves to work her way off his shoulders until she was hanging off the side of Nell. When she was out of his way, Truitt rose on the pad, keeping a tight grip on the handles, one leg extended behind him.
He heard several women gasp and wondered if the back had split out of his britches, but he didn’t feel air blowing across his undies and assumed that wasn’t the problem.
Rather than let anything distract him, he tuned out the spectators, the lights, the noise, the smells, and focused on the spot between Nell’s ears. That spot—that intent focus—was the only reason he hadn’t totally gone bonkers during the practice sessions with Jolee. Blocking everything from his mind had been his only means of doing what was required without falling off the horse with Jolee wrapped in his arms.
Truitt felt Jolee swing onto his back and could tell from the position of her hands and knees, she had her feet and head pointed toward the night sky.
“Focus, focus,” he chanted under his breath, doing his best to keep thoughts of her stretched out on his back at bay. Then she slipped beneath him, her arms holding him, her leg wrapped around his, and Truitt realized he could live a long, long life, and the feel of her so close to him would be imprinted in his memories as long as he drew a breath.

He looked down at her, saw the joy and wonder on her face, and smiled at this woman who’d turned his world upside down.
Although he was sure she hadn’t planned it, she pulled closer against him, and her lips fused to his in a tender connection that was unlike anything he’d ever known.
Truitt had kissed so many girls that he’d lost track of the tally before he’d turned twenty, but never had one kiss affected him like this meeting of lips and hearts that he experienced with Jolee.
She pulled back, her cheeks bright red—not from the rouge she wore. She seemed as lost in the moment as he felt.
It was then Truitt noticed the quiet. The crowd had grown utterly silent, and the only sounds he could hear came from the waltz playing over the speakers and the creak and groan of the chutes where bulls were being loaded in preparation for the upcoming bull riding event.
With far more presence of mind than he felt, Truitt grinned at Jolee and tipped his head toward the stands. “I think this is where you let go so I can move,” he prompted. Everything in him shouted for another kiss but now wasn’t the time. Not with thousands of people watching.

You name it, Kari Whitevelt has seen it all.
And that’s why brides and grooms hire her.
Because she makes it all go away.
Wedding Protectors, Inc., is here to make sure that special day stays special.
Whatever it takes.
No matter what.
But when her newest client turns out to be her own long-lost high school sweetheart, rising tech star billionaire Caleb Mikelmas, suddenly Kari’s not sure whether she’s protecting the wedding couple —
Or her own heart.
Tech billionaire Caleb never thought he had a chance, much less a second chance with his first love and high school sweetheart, Kari. When a case of mistaken identity turns their reunion into one big misunderstanding, unraveling his feelings about the one who got away while supporting his brother’s nuptials means facing old demons.
And kissing Kari.
He likes kissing Kari far more than that whole demon thing. But if kisses were enough, Kari would already be his wife. Maybe it’s time to revisit the past and right some wrongs. One vow at a time.

EXCERPT:

Her mouth dropped. Katie knew what it was like to have a groomsman hit on you in the middle of wedding plans, but this was a first.
A groom!
And of all the guys...
“Caleb!” she gasped. “You're asking me out on a date?”
He smiled. “Now we're getting somewhere.”
“No! You're getting nowhere!”
“Got to second base back in high school. Remember my mom’s old Explorer? We used to park it
down by the beach–” THWACK!
With a snap of her wrist, she hit him, hard, in the chest.
The hard part came from the three-ring binder full of Carolina's ideas.
“What about Carolina?” she asked as his hands deftly caught the binder before it broke his foot. “What about her?”
“You're cheating on her? Now? With me?”
“I'm what? No! How could I be cheating? Carolina doesn't care if I go out with you!”
A rush of ice-cold numbness took over her body.
“Caleb Mikelmas, you are not the man I once knew! Maybe all that success and money turned your
morality into a hormone-filled lust swamp, but that is not how I live. Silicon Valley is full of all those tech bros orgy parties, and I cannot believe you’re one of them!”
“Orgy? Kari, what are you – ”
“You can't just ask me out when I'm planning your wedding!”
“I still can’t believe you said the word orgy.”
“And I cannot believe you’re jeopardizing your wedding to try to get me into bed!”
“Bed? What? I said coffee! And hold on. MY wedding? Kari, my wedding? I'm not getting married!”

“You're breaking up with Carolina so you can mess around with me?”
Full-throated laughter was the very last item on Kari’s short list of Things Caleb Would Do After
Asking Her to Help Him Cheat on His Fiancée (Who Hired Wedding Protectors for Their Wedding). But laugh, he did.
So she did what any self-respecting woman would do.
“I'm asking you out for coffee, Kari, because I want to spend time with you.”
She shoved the heel of her Jimmy Choo stiletto into his arch.
Which made him fold in half and drop the binder.
As color-coded spreadsheets and post-it tabs went flying, she turned on said heel to storm out, her
pride damaged but not destroyed, her exit so teeth-rattling livid that she didn’t feel a single bit of remorse for hurting him.
Until he shouted:
“Kari, I'm not marrying Carolina! My brother, Christian, is!”

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

With each new release in this series, the tone is getting progressively darker with the curtain moving to reveal the truth behind the joy and smiles of circus life.  A family of traveling circus performers have come to roost in this story with their new home leading to a search for the truth, a truth that affects their family and involves workers (and other shadowy characters) in a web of danger and edge of your seat suspense.  Bringing together two crackling characters in a sizzling romance offers a nice balance to the darkness and it kept me frantically turning the pages of this sensual and raw read.

Early on Winston and Crimson had one night together, but it clearly wasn't enough as fate led them back into each other's arms amidst a messy web of painful pasts and hurtful truths as secrets continue to come out into the light.  Winston and Crimson are a compelling couple with issues weighing on them that affect their pairing and their future.  Early on, Winston doesn't think he's capable of love or HEA and having his past revealed made for some gut wrenching discoveries that hurt my heart.  Along with painful pasts and harsh truths is a combustible romance full of steam and surprising sweetness.  Crimson gives Winston all he can handle in a connection full of fiery banter, a sensual tug of war, as well as moments of heart and soul that brought a tear to my eye.

In a series that has taken readers down an increasingly dark rabbit hole, Ms. Vale has dealt with modern day issues in an unforgettable way that pulls you into the story wholeheartedly.  She's dealt with the painful truths of child sex trafficking, dealt with it in a raw and realistic way, that keeps readers fully invested from the first page to the last.  As more and more about their father is revealed, the overall storyline takes an even more emotional turn on a rollercoaster ride that puts readers through the wringer.  Along with seeing the healing power of love's effect on the previous couples, seeing them finally start living after their painful pasts were revealed, I got to thoroughly enjoy seeing Folsom and am greatly anticipating where the last two books in this series will take us.

My rating for this is an A.

Book Tour for Christmas Cove by Sarah Dressler (GIVEAWAY)…..

Readers getting ready for the holidays will find themselves charmed by this romance of a travel editor bringing the joy of the holidays to a town sorely in need of it while in exchange she's being given the chance for HEA.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Christmas Cove by Sarah Dressler, along with discovering what inspires Ms. Dressler to write Christmas romances in summer, then learn even more about this book by visiting the other sites hosting this tour.  In honor of this small town holiday romance make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a $25 bookstore GC too!

What Inspires You To Write Christmas Stories In Summer?
How do I get in the mood for writing a Christmas story during the heart of summer? It’s not hard when the spirit of Christmas lives inside me all year long.
I could write Christmas stories any time of the year. However, when I began writing Christmas Cove, my debut novel, it was a hot July. Not just any July, Christmas in July, and I had made it my mission not to miss a single holiday movie on TV that month. Even though it was sweltering outdoors, inside was all twinkling lights and jingle bells.
I’m one of the people that looks forward to the season and often decorates the house before Halloween. I certainly didn't grow up celebrating Christmas for three months, but I found, once I became a parent, that the joy of Christmas was something that we needed more of, not less. Our traditions have evolved as the children have grown up, but the season always starts with lighting the trees. Later, after Thanksgiving, we deck the halls with all the ornaments and add a nativity. The things that weave through the season, kindness, forgiveness, understanding, and love, stay with me throughout the whole year.
I hope and pray that my book, Christmas Cove, will bring you joy no matter what season of life you’re in, inside or out.

With only three weeks left in December, travel editor, America Greene, arrives in the idyllic Christmas Cove to find it...Christmasless!
America needs a story, and fast, so she teams up with the town’s good-looking (and eligible) mayor, Leo, to light up Main Street and salvage her chance at being a full-time writer. The connection between them heats up, halls are decked, sleigh bells ring, and lights twinkle. Just when she thinks the holiday is saved, a nearby city threatens the future of Christmas Cove. With her heart, and career, hanging in the balance, she must learn that Christmas is much more than just a place on a map before time runs out.

EXCERPT:

Leo watched as America’s eyes lit up. The space was a winter wonderland, complete with dozens of flocked and lit trees. Soft glowing faux candles dotted the room, a live band played at one end, and there was more punch and hot cocoa than one could drink.

This is beautiful,” America said as she took in the atmosphere.

You’re beautiful,” he whispered. Though he couldn’t see if she heard him, her shoulder moved ever so slightly as though she did. “Is this the Christmas you were hoping for?”

Close,” she said and took a turn around him while delighting in the moment.

America looked like the queen of the ball as they walked to the center of the space, and pride swelled inside Leo that she was on his arm. The crowd hushed and, as though they were witnessing something special, cleared room on the dancefloor.

Though they didn’t know who she was, her confident and relaxed posture commanded attention from everyone in the room. She sent Leo a knowing side glance as he twirled her around before catching her in his arm.

He took her left hand in his and her waist in his right. The room stood still in the breath just before the music began. A Christmas waltz. Leo knew this one well. He took her through the steps, and she followed his lead like a pro.

As the music swelled and diminished to a close, he captured her gaze. She radiated happiness.

Where did you learn to dance like that?” America said breathlessly.

YouTube.”

America whacked him in the belly as she laughed. “You did not!”

He liked teasing her. “Of course, I didn’t. My Aunt June insisted on weekly cotillion classes.”

You surprise me.”

I try,” Leo said and held her close.

Her arms draped over his shoulders and her head rested near his neck. “Thank you,” she whispered. “This is exactly what I imagined before I came here.”

You imagined dancing with a dashing, yet approachable public servant in a snow-themed pavilion with a hundred eyes trained on you while your favorite song is played by a live band, while wearing a stunning gown and falling madly in—”

Suspense and heart pounding action will pull readers into this tale of a romance flourishing amidst danger and uncertainty.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Breaking Point by Bailey Thomas, then discover even more about this book by visiting the other sites hosting this tour.  In honor of this third installment in the Mill Creek Mystique series, make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a $25 Amazon GC too!

FBI analyst, Noah Parker, receives credible intelligence on a kidnapped woman from a ghost in his past who happens to be the man who shot him. The catch, he must act alone to obtain the geographic coordinates of her location.
Terrified and alone, Jasmine West doesn’t know if she’ll survive another day. When a lone man appears in her makeshift prison, they forge an alliance to survive.
Can they find the middle ground between analyzing and action when corruption and deceit surround them?

EXCERPT:

Jasmine West flipped through her interview notes for the umpteenth time at the small desk in her London, England, hotel. The anonymous email she’d received a few weeks ago intrigued her. She’d never seen anything so cryptic. Her source had mentioned that they were a friend of the prominent Dubin family and wanted the truth to finally come out. That alone made this adventure exciting because she didn’t know where it would end up. She’d even titled her article “Senator Thomas Dubin and Secrets of the Mangled Family Tree.
A burst of giddiness flooded her system due to all the potential story outcomes. She’d spent the first part of this week in Washington, DC, interviewing some of the senator’s colleagues, past and present, along with his late wife’s best friend. Her source had suggested she meet the woman, which turned out to be rather informative.
It seemed that the senator and his wife had a turbulent marriage, and her trouble with conceiving hadn’t helped matters. Everyone had adored his wife, but no one would talk to Jasmine about the events surrounding her death.
After Washington, Jasmine had hopped a flight from Dulles International Airport to Heathrow to investigate the small town of Holmberry Hill. There were definite concerns of infidelity and a cover-up. This town seemed to be the link.
She finger-combed her hair, now dry enough to sweep up into a messy bun, as she looked out her window at the big red double-decker buses passing. The streets were filled with people dressed for work and play this early Friday morning.
She tapped her pen against her forehead as she thought. This 6 anonymous source had mentioned that Jasmine’s photography, her primary source of income, allowing her the freedom to travel and research had caught their eye. They’d learned about her journalistic endeavors from her website.
A part of her wanted this exposĂ© to be the story of a lifetime— Pulitzer-Prize worthy. That would irritate her dad because he couldn’t downplay that honor. Oh, she knew she’d already succeeded with her photography, but her father would never give her credit for those accomplishments. All Dad saw was that she wasn’t married and had strayed from his plan for her life. Really, it was the same for all his daughters—live close to him and Mom and raise their grandchildren.
Well, she liked adventure, traveling, and, most importantly, choosing what to work on because it intrigued and excited her. She sipped her coffee, hoping to wipe the fog from her brain. At least she’d gotten a good five hours of sleep, but hopping into another time zone had zapped her energy.
Thirty minutes later, she packed up the last of her belongings, then headed toward the car she’d hired to take her to Holmberry Hill.
She planned to stay the night at the local bed and breakfast before returning to the States the next morning......

Lady Rosalind entrances the Duke of Weston. Concerned for her future with the tempestuous earl, he can’t afford to get involved. The fines and scandal will be too great for a man of his wealth and power.
When the truth comes to light, and he almost loses her forever, he finds he cannot afford to give less than his whole heart.

EXCERPT:

“Will you kiss me?” All true loves did so, and she longed to know the pleasure of one real kiss before her sentence of marriage was carried out. The girls she knew in London spoke of thrilling moments in the moonlight with ardent young lords desperate to steal a kiss or two, but no one attempted such a thing with her. Knowing she dreamed made the words come easier to her lips, and she trembled in anticipation as she met the intense regard of the man holding her.
“I do not think such an act would be appropriate.”
His deep voice rumbled beneath her cheek as he held her tight, descending a set of tight spiral stairs.
What better place for a forbidden pleasure than a dream? “None of this is real, and I must find out what a real kiss is before I am doomed to a life of misery. As the hero of my dream, you must comply with my wishes because this is my dream. I shall never have this chance again. Please, kiss me, so I have something to remember in the time ahead.”
He hesitated for the barest second before his hot mouth covered her own, sliding against her lips the way the duke kissed her hand.
She could not breathe and wrapped her arms tight around her rescuer’s neck, giving her body over to the wonder filling her heart and soul.
When he lifted his head, she protested. “Do not stop.”

Book Release Blast for Before I’m Gone by Heidi McLaughlin (REVIEW)…….

Readers will find themselves quickly engrossed by this heartfelt contemporary tale of living life to the fullest as their emotions will run the gamut from teary-eyed to happiness.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Before I’m Gone by Heidi McLaughlin, along with my impressions of it, then add it to your bookshelf!

Palmer Sinclair has never needed anyone’s help. A successful loan officer, she’s all work and no play. But when splitting headaches and blurred vision begin to affect her job, she begrudgingly sees a doctor and receives a diagnosis that leaves her shaken to her core and with little time left. Facing an uncertain future, Palmer makes a bucket list, determined to do the things she’d only dreamed of before she goes.
Kent Wagner has dedicated his life to helping others. An army medic turned paramedic, he’s a regular at Palmer’s bank who makes his monthly car loan payments in person just to see her radiant smile. After responding to not one but two 911 calls involving Palmer, he learns about her bucket list. Touched by her circumstances—and needing a distraction from his own—Kent offers to take Palmer to the places on her list.
Neither is prepared for the emotional journey ahead…or how little time they have left together, but the friendship they find in that brief time might be the most lasting legacy of all.

EXCERPT:

“Palmer stood, brushed her hands down the front of her skirt, and tugged on her jacket. Appearance meant a lot to her. She wanted people to see her as put together and professional. When she came out of her office, she noticed the lobby was beginning to fill up with the lunchtime crowd.
She walked behind the long counter and greeted each of her tellers. When she came to Shaunie, she quietly told her to go to lunch once she finished with her customer and then made her way to the workstation Palmer kept available in case of emergencies. At her terminal, she logged in and called for the next customer to step forward without looking up. When she did, she saw a man who often made her heart skip a beat or two—Kent Wagner.
Kent was a client and off limits as far as Palmer was concerned, not that she’d ever shoot her shot or let anyone know she had a crush on him. He was a favorite at the bank. All the tellers liked him and thought he was too cute for words. Palmer thought he was handsome, with his deep-blue eyes and dirty-blond hair. Kent kept his hair short and often buzzed it during the summer months.
“Hey, Palmer,” Kent said as he approached her station. Today, he wore normal clothes, or what he referred to as his “street clothes.” Most of the time when he came in, he was in his EMS uniform. “How are you today?”
“I-I’m well,” she stammered. “How are you?”
Kent smiled the most adorable, crooked smile Palmer had ever seen. “I’m well. How are you?” He ducked his head and his cheeks flushed with a pink hue, probably realizing he’d asked the same question twice. “I’ve missed you the last couple of times I was here.”
Over the years, Palmer had gotten to know most of their long-term clients, whether it was from being their bank teller, opening new accounts, or helping them with loans, which was how she’d met Kent. She had a knack for memorizing the little things when it came to the clientele, although lately she’d felt her memory slipping more than usual. Palmer loved to listen to their stories, always fascinated by what they could tell her in their minutes-long transactions, but it was her interactions with Kent that had left a lasting impression. He was a kind man and always had a compliment for the staff.
“You have to come at lunchtime,” she told him. “What can I help you with today?” Kent slid a check toward her. “Just paying my car payment.”
Palmer brought the thin paper toward her and typed his name into her computer. “You know, you can make this payment online.”
“I know,” he said. “But then I wouldn’t get to come in here and say hi...to you.” He muttered this last part, so Palmer barely heard him. She tried not to smile, but the giddy emotions she felt took over. It was her turn to duck her head and be coy.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Readers will want to keep a box of tissues close by as they start reading this tale of living life to the fullest, embracing the little moments as well as the big, and finding a loving soul when you least expect it.  This story pulls you in from the very start, warming your heart before breaking it in little increments in a powerful tale that you won't forget easily.

Palmer Sinclair's the kind of heroine you root for, a heroine who had a tough beginning with being a foster child and never having a soft place to land.  She's always felt alone, dealt with life on her own, exuding toughness while still being immensely likable.  When headaches and dizziness lead to a terminal diagnosis, Palmer decides to finally start living instead of dreaming.  She creates a bucket list that will change her life irrevocably, especially once a regular visitor to the bank where she works joins her on her journey.  Everything Palmer felt and experienced felt real, with raw emotions being laid bare as friendship and love were balanced with fear on a haunting journey that weighed on my heart with each day that passed on her diagnostic timetable.

Kent Wagner has a painful past of his own as a veteran.  Add in an unexpected and life-altering change thrown his way and he's got a lot weighing on him.  He does have one bright spot in his life though...his monthly visit to the bank where Palmer works which creates a very flirtatious and cute connection between them.  With Kent's job as a paramedic it's not long before he sees Palmer elsewhere too, as her condition starts to deteriorate, and he's the one to take her to the hospital once 911's been called.  Kent's an immensely appealing hero, one who's just what Palmer needs on her journey.  He has a true heart of gold and in helping her live he found a way to heal himself.  I was glad she had someone as loving and supportive as him on her journey as their interactions added a bit of romance as well as some much-needed moments of humor to this emotionally intense story.

Readers will be captivated by this story from start to finish with each and every high and low, each tear and every smile being earned.  The beginning may be a bit heavy-handed emotionally but it's ultimately an empowering tale of living life to the fullest now because you might not get a tomorrow.  It's a tale of not living in the past, making the most of every precious minute you're given, on a journey that I'm still thinking about.  Even if you think you know how this story will end it's still an epic, heartfelt journey that will make readers appreciate their own lives more.
