If you’re not familiar with dime novels, they were the original paperback books from the 1800s. I even managed to find a few at antique stores. One I bought is titled The Golden Belt, and it was published by Beadle and Company in 1866. What a treasure! I can’t believe it’s held up this long. I pulled my hair off the back of my neck. The long braid, wetted during my morning first swim at the campus center pool hung wet against the back of my sweatshirt. My shoulders scrunched involuntarily. My teeth chattered. I rubbed my hands together and reached to unfold a wooden seat in the cavernous lecture hall. I pulled a notebook from my backpack and read the label. Michigan History. I opened the notebook and fumbled for a pencil.

Professor Brown walked on stage, paused his elegantly dressed persona, and turned in a circle. From the top of his head to his wing-tip-clad feet, he quivered. He moved as if in the spell of the last refrain of Do the hokey pokey, you know, where you shake your whole self?

He faced stage left. He stood straight and tall, then bent in the form of a gunslinger. He shoved his hand over a pretend gun holster. He spoke to a character only he could see.

“Two Stickney?”

Professor Brown flipped to stage right and burst through an imaginary door as a changed man. “Who’s askin’?” he snarled in a slurred voice.

Professor Brown switched again and responded in the authoritative voice. “Joseph Wood, Deputy Sheriff of Monroe County, Michigan Territory here to arrest you for your actions in the Toledo War.”

“The hell you are!” The Two character screamed. He reached in his pants pocket, pulled forth a pocket knife, and stabbed Deputy Sheriff Wood in the thigh. Note: This scene required fast footwork for Professor Brown!

Professor Brown turned to face the class. “And that students, is a reenactment of the sole blood-shedding incident in the entire conflict of the Toledo War.”

I don’t remember all the details of the short-lived Toledo War, but what I do remember is the manner in which it was presented. Professor White brought history alive in the mannerisms of the characters—their speech patterns, their unique movements, and their interaction.

Love is the ingredient in Romance. What do you, the author, have in your bag of tricks to reel the reader in?

When you experience love, your senses are heightened. So your in-love character love sees the sky as a brighter blue. He smells the rain-soaked forest with the loose lungs of a beloved. He feels the warmth of the saddle soak into his thighs. His ears are open to the ten-note trill of a robin.

By weaving emotionally charged connections throughout an historical terrain, you will be creating a story that holds your reader captive.

The Cerberus MC series has been one heckuva rollercoaster ride through 21 previous books!  Number 22 is yet another winner, taking readers on an emotionally intense journey of two lifelong friends and the feelings that evolve to break them up before bringing them back together.  It's a journey of acceptance of yourself, embracing love whoever offers it, and not letting the judgements of others keep you from your HEA. This is a tale that spans years, breaks your heart early on, before putting a smile on your face with a satisfying conclusion.

Rick and Landon had been friends for years before a traumatic event led Rick to confessing his secret love for his best friend.  It's a moment that pulled them apart though with Landon unable to admit what he's spent years fighting...that he feels the same for his friend.  My heart broke for Rick at that moment, for being brave enough to admit the truth about what's in his heart and being turned away...being ignored for years in fact before fate brought them back together as roommates whose closeness led to Landon no longer being able to keep his true feelings hidden.

Throughout their frustrating and emotional journey I truly liked Rick.  He had a big heart that he simply wanted to give to Landon, he simply wanted to be seen as someone Landon could love, instead of being kept at arm's length.  Landon especially frustrated me because of the casualness of the hurt he caused Rick, hurt that was mostly because of his indecision and fear over how others might see him.  Once he admitted his feelings to himself though he was all in and his actions started to charm me.

Theirs was a hard-fought journey to HEA, one that put them and readers through the wringer.  Things might've started out slow but they turned steamy halfway through in encounters that were tender and sensual.  Once these two started to talk I was truly touched by their maturity and the openness of what their being together means. Though this book is part of the Cerberus MC series it focuses solely on Landon and Rick. Secondary characters, family and friends, are seen but the action is totally of the emotional kind as we watch these two become men in love with each other.  It's a heartfelt read that's a refreshing addition to the usual MC fare and is one I definitely recommend!

I'm inching up on the BIG 4-0. The gray hairs are doubling what seems like daily, and the wrinkles and laugh lines are more pronounced than ever.

I have an amazing husband (Married just over 15 years.)

We have two boys we're doing our best to raise as respectful gentlemen.

I have a master's degree in criminal justice which I used to work as a juvenile probation office until deciding to write full- time in June of 2019. So that means there's usually always some criminal/law element to my novels.

If I'm not writing; I'm reading.

My favorite genres recently are bully/reverse harem and enemies to lovers. Maybe I'm reliving my traumatic teen years through the girls who actually end up with the boys. (Not that I would change my history since it's gotten me exactly where I need to be!)

I love coffee. I miss carbs. Music is LIFE. I try not to be too serious.
