Sometimes you need to crash a funeral to experience happiness.
At least, Kissimmee Singh, aerial artist for Singh Circus, the most sought-after traveling circus of all time, keeps telling herself that’s why she crashes funerals. In reality, she’s lost and confused. Sometimes it’s nice to experience other people’s grief and be reminded that life isn’t as bad as it could be.
Though attending the funeral of some random old man that died of cancer wasn’t supposed to change her life completely. It does.
With one look at the grieving man and woman, she realizes that this was one funeral she probably should’ve stayed away from.
He’s in a black suit, black undershirt, black gloves, and black shoes. He looks like the devil himself.
When she tries to make a run for it, he follows and demands to know why she’s there.
If she’d known he was going to be trouble, she’d have stayed away. If she’d known that he’d follow her to their next stop, she might’ve tried a little harder to hide who she was. What she was.
But she didn’t.
Instead, she gave him everything in one single night. And will live to regret it.
MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
Ms. Vale continues to entertain with this exhilarating and steamy series starter set in the circus world! Featuring larger than life characters and a storyline full of unexpected twists and turns, along with a romance that kept me glued to the pages, Ms. Vale has crafted a decadently delightful tale that put a smile on my face while making me blush a time or two along the way. Captivating me from the very beginning I was quickly immersed into the Singh family, finding their connections endearing, and looking forward to where life takes each of them in future installments.
Kissimmee "Simi" Singh is one of six sisters, and one brother, who make a living running their family's circus and traveling from one town to the next in a life that seems exciting but is also lonely. Simi's an aerial artist who has no fear when spinning through the air, outspoken and full of sass, but with a bit of loneliness surrounding her too. She exudes confidence and strength but there's uncertainty when thinking about love, romance, and the future. She's the kind of heroine you're immediately drawn to, and the moment she and Coffey locked glances, readers know they're going to be in for one heckuva entertaining journey.
Coffey Simiencia is the kind of hero who's not all that he seems. He exudes danger through the tats he shows the world, but also those on his hands that he hides from the world. He's a man who's protective of those he cares about, a man willing to do whatever necessary to keep danger at bay no matter the damage that may be done to his soul. He's a man who wears his heart on his sleeve who made my heart hurt too while he dealt with the death of his father. The connection he had with his father was heartwarming and it spoke volumes about the man he truly was and the kind of love he wanted to experience. The words of wisdom expressed by his father brought a tear to my eye while showing strength and love wrapped in the sweet and sexy package that is Coffey. Coffey's a compelling dichotomy with an instant attraction to Simi that just crackled. He was open and honest when it came to his feelings and emotions, letting Simi be who she was while embracing her wholeheartedly in a romance that was scorching yet sentimental. With Coffey present though there was also suspense and mystery, twists and turns that had me on edge a time or two while cranking up the heat.
On a whole this was a cleverly crafted romance with an unforgettable setting, one full of magic and mystery that grabbed me immediately and never let me go. The Singh family are a colorful clan who are larger than life with each sibling making their mark and leaving me counting down the days until each of them takes center stage. The balance between romance and suspense was perfect, keeping my heart racing and my cheeks flushing in a satisfying journey to HEA. Along with the new faces of the Singh family were those faces working with Coffey, a group who have dark pasts of their own but are still on the lookout for danger. They're a compelling group who I look forward to seeing more of in the future as the banter amongst them was thoroughly entertaining. There were other familiar faces, amongst them was Folsom, and they were a wonderful addition to the story and a very believable way to tie all these books together. Ms. Vale is an author you can always count on to entertain, an author that keeps you guessing through all sorts of delightful highs and lows...an author who I can't get enough of while recommending to everyone!
My rating for this is an A.
*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.
