Get ready for another emotionally intense journey to HEA as two people with painful pasts find their way into each other's arms. Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Running Free by DM Earl, along with my impressions of it, then add this next installment in the Mayhem Makers series to your bookshelf!
One free spirit. One wandering man. And their journey for answers.
Keeping to myself is how I roll.
I'm not about to get embroiled in all the drama and chaos this club endures.
Training with the club's enforcer keeps me busy and on my toes,
And always on guard.
I know how to read a room and access all situations,
Keeping my composure and calming the others.
But when I meet Halo,
A wandering man,
I'm drawn to him in ways I never expected.
No part of me can resist him.
His quiet demeanor with his fascinating intelligence hooks me from the start.
My sisters at the club think otherwise.
Suspicious of him, they're all on guard,
Creating friction among us.
And when my twin sister goes missing without a trace,
Right before the MMM25 signing,
The wandering man is their prime suspect,
Yet, I know better.
His name may be Halo, and he's certainly no saint.
Will he prove once and for all that he's my guardian angel?
MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
Get ready for an endless array of gut-punches as two people with painful pasts find themselves on a rocky road to HEA, while surrounded by an engaging cast of secondary characters that have made this series of books so entertaining. Throughout the story emotions take center stage, with the physical aspects of their romance set on the back burner, along with their pains weighing on them like anchors just when the past comes a-knockin'. It all added up to a story that kept me on the edge of my seat while making my heart hurt.
Tortured for three years in a Middle Eastern prison, he's returned home with scars inside and out. He's not the kind of man who's easy to get to know, but finds the one woman amongst the MCs roster who truly understands him. Storm and her sister have come to the MC's compound to recuperate from the abuse they experienced as part of a sex trafficking religious cult. Though she's told by everyone to stay away from him, she's drawn to Halo's pain and does all she can to soothe and support him. Causing a big speed bump to their HEA is a return of this vile group as the MC gets ready to battle them once again.
Halo's an unforgettable hero! His feelings pulled at my heartstrings with both physical scars as well as emotional. He's full of self-doubts, questioning his abilities to be what makes a man, and it made me hurt for him. Storm wasn't quite as captivating, but the experiences that befell her had me rooting for her now. They're a perfectly imperfect pairing that kept me eagerly turning the pages, hoping for them to find HEA, in a suspenseful and action-packed MC romance.
My rating for this is an A-
*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.
