Feared by most, except his brothers in the club who think they know him, Nicholas “Chains” Bruno has many secrets hidden so deep he is tormented by them. Isolating himself, the solitude and loneliness is weighing him down and Chains doesn’t see a way out of this hell. As the Grimm Wolves MC Enforcer, he needs to keep up the persona that has taken years to cultivate. But deep down in his soul there is only one, no two, things he craves day in and day out and feels he can’t have: the two people who love and accept him for who he truly is. Chains continues to try to fight to mesh his two worlds together, giving in to his ultimate dream—only to push it away when they get too close—hurting the ones who love him the most. He knows once the MC world discovers he is not what he appears, the only thing that has been a constant in his life for years will be in ruins and he’ll lose his brothers, the club, and end up truly alone.
Adding to his torment, an unexpected enemy decides to make a move when the Grimm Wolves MC least expects it. The end result devastates the club because Chains is snatched, and his brothers don’t have a clue who has him or why. Trying to ride on the right side of the law, the club still has many allies on that other side who they reach out to for help. However, that one secret Chains has kept close to his heart is slowly being revealed as mystery items are being delivered to different MC clubs. With his brothers curious and the club fighting to find Chains, two people step up knowing that now is the time to share Chains’ double life with the club. Once they come out to the Grimm Wolves, Chains’ story takes a different path that no one saw coming.
Will the club be able to find Chains? Can he hold on and survive the constant abuse at the hands of unknowns who enjoy making him suffer? Worst of it all, Chains has no idea who they are or what they truly want. As he remembers all the wasted years, and the few and far between moments of true happiness when he let his walls down and just followed his heart, all he can do at this moment is continue to fight to get back to the two who mean the most to him and something he hasn’t done in forever. Pray.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As a fan of MC-themed books I was quickly captivated by this book from the very first page to the last courtesy of the gritty, steamy, and heartbreaking journey of Nicholas (Chains) from his childhood spent in foster care until now.  In a story that flashes back in time to present-day, readers get to see the traumatic experiences of his youth that made him the man he is today and the negative feelings he has about himself because of all he had to do to survive.  Moments of blood and rage are balanced with the moments of the escapism he lets himself have with the only two bright spots of his youth...Jackson and Winnie.  These two shared the nightmares of foster care with Nicholas, gave him a reason to keep living, and throughout the years they've evolved from a trio of friends to a triad.  They're the only thing keeping Chains sane, keeping him from getting lost in the darkness living in him, but his fears of how others would view him have him keeping them his dirty little secret.

Slowly though Chains' past is catching up to him.  When someone from his past starts waging a war of revenge that starts with a revealing of truths to kidnapping him to reap their revenge on in person, things turn particularly dark.  Chains might have always felt unworthy of love but it quickly becomes obvious how many people care about him as every brother in the Grimm Wolves MC, along with Jackson and Winnie, rush to find him before he's completely lost to the darkness.  With Chains' kidnapping the story becomes a dark, raw, and twisting tale that will have readers trying to figure out whodunit while on the edge of their seats fearing for Chains.  Jackson (lawyer to the MC) and Winnie are equally on edge as they try to remember their own past along with what Chains did throughout their time apart from him.  The fear they feel is palpable, as is their love for him and all he did to keep them safe and cared for.  The MC is also desperate to find him while trying to keep their Club safe from this dangerous and twisted enemy.

This was a fast-paced read, one that actually had my heart racing at times.  Chains is a complex character, one who did a lot of unsavory things to survive, but he also has a loving heart hiding behind all that blood and rage.  My heart broke for all that he endured in life and it sometimes made it difficult to read.  Instead of seeing his past as a reason why he's UNdeserving of love and happiness, I’m rooting for him to accept that BECAUSE of his painful past he DESERVES a HEA.  Now he just needs to make it out alive for true healing to begin.  Throughout this story readers get a few erotic interludes as we see the strong bond this triad has, see their love and unwavering support for each other.  Readers also get to see the other brothers in the MC, see their playful interactions, as well as the determined protection they give one another.  The brothers are an engaging group, one who I look forward to seeing more of with the next installment in this series.  On a whole this is a darn near perfect book that I highly recommend and I'm now left breathlessly awaiting what happens next!

My rating for this is an A.

Book Blast for Campus God by Jennifer Sucevic (REVIEW)…..

An athlete adored by every woman on campus except for one, a woman he's always been at odds with, finds a sudden attraction bubbling up between them in this steamy New Adult romance.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Campus God by Jennifer Sucevic, along with my impressions of this fourth installment in the Campus series, then add it to your bookshelf!

Crosby Rhodes is considered a god when it comes to Western Wildcats football. And who knows, he might just be one. There’s certainly no shortage of girls on campus who agree with the sentiment. They swoon over his pretty face, dark messy hair, and hard body honed from years of lifting and two-a-day practices. That alone makes him catnip for the female species.Add a lip ring and surly disposition to the package and you can understand what all the fuss is about.
Would I be included in that majority?
Hell, no.
As far as I’m concerned, Crosby can eat shit and die. The guy is a major jerk. Not to mention, a pain in my assets. And that’s putting it nicely. For reasons I’ve never understood, he goes out of his way to humiliate and hurt me. His barbed comments are always a direct hit before exploding on impact.
I’d love to know what I did to elicit such hatred but that would involve conversing with him and I refuse to do that. There’s only one more semester before graduation. Surely, we can get through the next six months without coming to blows.
That’s the hope, anyway.
Which is exactly why I’m thrown off guard when my nemesis pulls me aside and suggests a truce. Do I necessarily trust him after everything he’s put me through?
Nope. For the time being, I’ll agree so there can once again be peace in the kingdom all the while keeping him at a firm distance. Except that turns out to be impossible. Everywhere I go, there he is. It’s like I can’t get away from him. More shocking than that, he’s actually being nice.
If stomping out the underlying attraction that constantly flared to life between us was difficult before, it’s all but impossible now. But that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I’ve been burned by one athlete, I’ll be damned if I allow it to happen again.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Having read a previous installment in this series I was eager to read this one...and in many ways it didn't disappoint.  The best part of this story is its heroine, Brooke, a young woman who's immensely likable with a strong will but a bruised self-esteem from years of body shaming from her mother.  She's determined and focused, with big plans for the future that don't rely on her looks.  She's unlucky in love when readers first see her courtesy of a boyfriend who's been cheating on her the entire time they've been together.  All she wants is a committed relationship, somebody there just for her, but it's clearly not Andrew...the best friend/teammate to Crosby, the most wanted man on campus (and in the bedroom).  Theirs is ultimately a rocky break-up, but it leads to a charming and unexpected connection between Brooke and someone you'd never expect. She and Crosby may start out as enemies but their connection is sizzling from the very beginning as it progresses down a bumpy road to HEA.

This wasn't a perfect book though and that's because of Crosby and his actions that often left me feeling conflicted.  When readers first see him he seems like the proverbial playa, a womanizer who can have any woman he wants.  There's one woman he's never shown any flirtations towards however...and that's Brooke.  Even though he was often arrogant, his kindness still showed through as someone who's supportive and caring of those he claims as his.  That's why I was especially saddened by his nastiness towards Brooke. His words were cruel and felt unnecessary.  I understand he was trying to hide his real feelings for Brooke while she was with his friend, but his cruelty felt over-the-top.  As the two of them grew closer together he tried to prove himself worthy of her, tried to earn his forgiveness, but it never felt enough to me to make up for his years of bad behavior towards her.

Ultimately, the overall premise of this book was nothing new and had a familiar feel that made for a speedy read that left me wanting a bit more.  There was great banter while Crosby and Brooke were texting, sizzling exchanges, but for me the ending didn't quite equal the charm and feeling of love from early in their relationship.  Despite that this is still a satisfying read with an appealing heroine and a sexy hero who find HEA after an angsty journey that is a nice addition to the series!

My rating for this is a B.

Book Release Blast for Tough Justice by Tee O’Fallon….

A rash of overdoses, courtesy of a new drug taking over the drug scene, brings together an untrusting doctor and a DEA Agent (and his dog partner) in this sensual and suspenseful tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Tough Justice by Tee O'Fallon, then add this first installment in the K-9 Special Ops series to your bookshelf!

It should have been a routine investigation. Instead, DEA K-9 agent Adam "Deck" Decker watches in horror as one Denver hospital seems to be Ground Zero for overdoses of a new drug. Now Deck can only hope a certain icy, green-eyed ER doctor will help him and his canine partner track down the deadly source.

Dr. Tori Sampson has her reasons for not trusting federal agents, especially ones working for the DEA. But the rash of overdoses—including a heartbreaking case involving a teen—is alarmingly high. And the new opioid is not only extremely dangerous, it defies all the usual medical treatments. So Tori has a choice: work with the big, brawny, and annoyingly hot DEA agent...or watch more innocent people die.

Tori's the only person who can help Deck break the case, and they'll need to trust each other, no matter how high the tension and attraction sizzling between them runs. But with every question answered, they realize there's something more behind these typical teen overdoses. There's a pattern here, and a pattern can only suggest one thing. There's a killer on the loose.

EXCERPT:

Her eyes softened, turning pensive. “If there’s something I can do proactively to stop the rising body count, I want to do it.” Absently, she stroked Thor’s ears, allowing him to lean his head against her thigh. Deck suspected the change of heart had something to do with the dead teenager. “But let’s be clear on something.” Her pretty eyes glittered like shards of green ice. “You have your rules, and I have mine.”
He and Thor led the way to the elevator. He glanced over his shoulder to make sure she was behind him. “Meaning?” Two seconds into their alliance, and he was already on the verge of regretting it.
“Meaning”—she stared up at him frostily—“you will not skulk around the ER, waiting or searching for overdose victims. You’ll wait until I notify you that a patient is willing to speak with you.”
“Skulk?” Deck held back a snort. Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. “DEA agents don’t skulk.”
She pursed her lips. “I beg to differ. History has shown otherwise.”
He leaned his shoulder against the wall by the elevator bank, tensing. “What history?” He had no idea what she was talking about. Whatever it was, they really needed to clear the air fast or this partnership would sink faster than the Titanic.
“Never mind.” She shook her head and looked away, as if she’d said something unintentional. “There is one other thing, however.”
“What other thing?” Yeah, two minutes into it, and this arrangement was already fixing to be a cluster.
“If a patient changes their mind in the middle of your interrogation and no longer wishes to talk, you’ll leave, no more questions asked.”
“Fine.” Between them, Thor swung his head back and forth, as if watching a tennis match. “And for the record, it’s not an interrogation. It’s an interview. Anything else?”
“Yes. You have to promise never to use a patient’s name in any report.”
Deck pushed from the wall, towering over her, but she stood her ground, craning her neck to look up at him. The elevator door opened, but he ignored it. “No dice, Doc. That’s how I get my PC—probable cause. If an OD victim has information about the source of the opioids and can direct us to the location where they purchased it, I may need to put their name in an affidavit for search and arrest warrants.”
She crossed her arms and jutted her chin up at him. “Then that part of the deal is off.”
What had he gotten himself into? They’d made a deal over the phone, and she was already changing the rules. He should’ve known he couldn’t trust her. Maybe he should find someone else. But they were here, and he didn’t want to waste more time finding another doctor. “Let’s compromise. I’ll do everything in my power to leave names out, but you have to understand that sometimes that’s what it takes to get a dealer off the street. If a judge allows me to refer to victims as ‘confidential sources’ instead of using their real names, then I’ll do it. Deal?”
Before meeting his gaze, her lips compressed into a tight line, and he expected her to tell him to pound sand. “Deal.”
“Good, and I have a condition of my own. Everything we do together, everything we discuss, is confidential. You need to be discreet about DEA operations.”
“Understood,” she said curtly. “And for the record, that seems obvious.”
The door began to close, and he reached out his arm, stopping it. “Is there anything else I should know?”
Her lips twitched. “If there is, I’ll tell you.”
“I’ll bet you will.” This woman was hardcore. Delicate and pretty on the outside. Inside, she was a drill sergeant, barking out orders like a seasoned federal agent. Like him. He’d bet she could hold her ground against some of the best defense attorneys he’d ever run into.

EXCERPT:

After graduating, I decided to make a stake for my future in California. Naturally, imbued with youthful naïveté (a nice euphemism for stupidity), I submitted my portfolio at the L.A. Times and The San Francisco Examiner. I naturally figured that it would require only a cursory examination for them to see my undeniable genius and hire me on to work on their front pages.
Didn’t work out that way, not at all, and by the time I’d worked my way through the second tier, and then the third tier papers, I finally managed to snag my first professional newspaper job.
In Lodi.
Lodi, for Chrissakes. I mean, that Fogerty guy even wrote a song once about the dumpiness of Lodi. However, by the time they floated the offer, I was so hungry, cold, and desperate that I would have taken anything. Then, once I’d moved my few knapsacks of belongings down there and found a room I could rent by the month, came what seemed like the final indignity.
They put me to work writing obituaries.
Understand, in the early eighties, practically everyone in newspaper work got started in the obits. Even so, it seemed like the drudgiest of drudge work. Six days a week, I sat at my desk, scanning the death notices, calling hospitals and checking with the cops to fulfill my daily quota of morbidity.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As a fan of the Olympics, of witnessing the inspirational stories amidst the sacrifices made, I was drawn to this story the moment it came to life on my tablet.  I fell for its main couple, was captivated by its sweet and sensual romance, and appreciated the realistic emotional journey its injured athlete undertook to regain his standing in the diving world.  Not only do readers get an in-depth look at the physical and emotional toll being a top athlete causes, but there's the optimism of the young alongside the harsh realities of adulthood on display.  From the first page to the last it's a story that pulls you in and doesn't let go.

Finn Anderson's a recent graduate of journalism school and more than ready to set the world on fire with his words...but so far all he's been assigned to cover are local, puff pieces.  Being assigned to follow Olympic diver Wes's comeback is therefore both the opportunity of a lifetime for him and hugely intimidating.  Not knowing anything about diving or anything beyond what the press has said about Wes Cooper previously has Finn expecting the worst, but their initial meeting is sizzling with an instant attraction that's more than obvious and just grows from that moment on.  Finn's an immensely likable character with his infectious excitement in getting out in the world to experience all there is along with his strong support of Wes through his very difficult recovery.  While supporting Wes, Finn has his own issues to work through related to making a living as a reporter balanced with being part of the elite sports world Wes lives in as their romance grows.  Finn's feelings and reactions were spot-on and I found him to be lovable and exactly what Wes needed at this point in his life.

Wes Cooper has always been dedicated to the world of diving, always knew he was a winner as he entered the water.  But his injury has affected him more than just physically, it's left him doubting himself.  If he can't dive, who is he and what else could he do in life?  These fears weigh on him throughout the story and take on new meaning as many of today's athletes are of the same mindset.  Wes is an immensely appealing character whose insecurities endeared him to me and had me wanting to hug him.  Even though he's got his own issues to deal with he's clearly a strong support to Finn, reassuring him and loving him every step of the way.

On a whole this is a well-crafted m/m romance full of sweet words and deeds, sizzling encounters, and realistic issues making headlines today.  The characters were delightful, the romance full of heart and soul, and upon reaching the final page I wanted to start reading it all over again.  Ms. Silver is a new-to-me author but this is a story that I wholeheartedly recommend that you dive into today!

My rating for this is an A.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Having just finished, and enjoyed, another book in this series I was more than ready to start reading this one.  With a compelling premise and a sizzling main couple I started reading with a smile on my face.  Upon finishing though I was left a bit conflicted to be honest as the character's actions marred my feelings for them while the numerous sexual encounters left little room for meaningful growth in the relationship between Jackson and Day.

There was a lot of superficiality in this story when it came to the actual romance, courtesy of the over-the-top, erotically-charged m/m interludes that started the moment Jackson and Day met.  This instant encounter seemed out of character for Jackson especially, a character who's usually so quiet and controlled.  Considering Day's painful past (a past that broke my heart) you think he'd be more cautious too, but they both burned up the pages whenever they were together.  While Day's difficulties living with a disability, and his past of sexual and physical abuse, drew me to him I was at times turned off by his blatantly inappropriate behavior when in public situations.  I understand it was a defense mechanism, a way to keep his heart guarded, but it still turned me off at times.  Jackson was committed to Day from the start but it was a bumpy ride getting him to accept the feelings Jackson had for him since only one other person ever loved him and she died in childhood.  The suspenseful part of this story was well-crafted, actually gave me some chills, but the ending was a bit rushed and too easy. Through all the bumps in the road it will take all of Jackson's talents, in and out of the bedroom, to find HEA with Day but it's a journey that will keep readers glued to the pages despite the small imperfections of this story.

My rating for this is a C+

I knocked up my best friend's sister.
Figured I would get straight to the point because how it happened is a mere snippet of the story I have to tell. The real meat and potatoes is what happened after.
Let's start with how she decided to inform me and Pacey the news...together. Imagine that nightmare. I was going into what I thought was a hockey marketing meeting and then BAM! I'm going to be a dad and my best friend/teammate is attempting to imprint my face with his fist.
It wasn't pretty.
Threats were tossed around, friendships were revoked, and then I was marched up to her apartment, suitcases in hand, and forced to live with her so I could take care of her every need. Given how much I've pined for the girl, you would think that wouldn't be a hardship. Wrong.
This is my one shot to win my teammate back. Pacey is the only family I've got, so hooking up with his sister isn't a mistake I can make twice...despite the fact that she's pregnant with my child.
But with every mood swing, every pair of pants that doesn't fit right, and every late night run to find the perfect donut, I'm finding it harder and harder not to fall for my best friend's little sister.
Especially when she kisses me...

As a fan of rockstar romances I was immediately captivated by this book and its premise of second chances.  With young love becoming older and wiser, two past loves find their way back to each other for forgiveness and a way to make a future together this time around.  With a compelling blend of angst and romance, sizzling encounters and heartwarming exchanges, readers will find this yet another satisfying read in a well-crafted series that continues to shine.

Campbell Abbey is at the top of the rockstar world, living far away from the small town he grew up in and the young love he left behind.  Growing up he was devoted to his music, willing to do whatever it took to have his music heard by everyone...including leaving behind the love of his young life.  He's never forgotten about her though, with every song fueled by thoughts of her, which is why he's more than ready to return home for a visit.  He's finally ready to right past wrongs, win back the girl who's made a life of fame for herself, even as outside forces wreak havoc on the HEA he's envisioning. Throughout the story Campbell's sexy and charming, everything you expect a rockstar to be.  His behavior towards Blaire though makes it a bit hard to like him early on, but as the story progressed he more than earned forgiveness through his very romantic words and deeds.  He showed a completely swoon-worthy side, a down-to-earth nature that endeared him to me as the romance between him and Blaire reignited.

Blaire Barker once loved Campbell with every fiber of her being and was devastated by his leaving her behind.  She's tried to forget him over the years but the heart wants what the heart wants, even though she tries to keep her heart from becoming involved this time around.  Together they become a formidable pair, one full of nostalgic memories and romantic possibilities.  In a journey that's at times rocky it ultimately becomes a journey of forgiveness, one that's battered and bruised along the way to emerge stronger.  Along the way Blaire shows herself to be an immensely likable heroine, one who through her own initiative found fame, and I was impressed by her strong Will and determination.  She's the kind of character I could see as a friend in real life.

This was a story full of angst and a rollercoaster of emotions as two past loves find their way back to each other.  It's a journey that reveals truths from the past told from both of their perspectives as they seek to reignite their connection.  It's a tale full of sizzling scenes, heartbreaking exchanges, and a HEA that doesn't always seem possible. Alongside these soulmates is a large cast of secondary characters, friends and family who've been in previous books, who add a sense of family to the story.  They're a supportive bunch and I'm enthralled by the glimpses we got of the characters ready to star in the next installment in this series.  Overall this was a satisfying story, one that played with my emotions while warming my heart, all while making me blush in a book I definitely recommend!

My rating for this is an A-

*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.
