MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

From the moment I picked up this book I knew it was going to be a heavy read.  Well, it's definitely all that and more as a recovering addict takes a chance on love with a man carrying his own emotional baggage. Their story isn't pretty at times but it is realistic and will quickly captivate readers looking for an unflinching take on romance in today's world.

Cecilia Lyons has come to Orlando for a fresh start, trying to put her painful past and her drug abuse behind her.  With her family's support she's made a life for herself that she can be proud of.  It made me proud of her too as she's a sassy and likable heroine.  A night out at a club changes her life irrevocably when she meets dj Brock...a man who has her wanting to share everything about herself with him.  It's not easy to open up like that though and it does cause some issues between them as they go through a sensual tug of war on the way to HEA.

Brock Sullivan has had his own pain in the past by women's betrayal and the loss of the love of his life.  He's immediately drawn to Cecilia, drawn to her night after night, until they finally give into each other. Hearing her truths though caused problems between them that made me not like him for awhile.  Despite his initial anger Brock finally rose to the occasion to be the man Cecilia needed him to be.

On a whole this was a captivating story that kept me glued to the pages.  It was realistic too, pulled at my heartstrings, and was a powerful series starter that has me looking forward to revisiting this world again soon!

My rating for this is an A-

Book Tour for Bad Choices and Heartaches by Casey Diam (Review & GIVEAWAY)......

Ryker Stanley was a stunning specimen of a human, a creation that was aesthetically flawless. He is also a jerk.
I know he hasn’t always been this way—after all, we were once best friends, but when our friendship ended, I watched from the sidelines as he made a series of bad choices, and left dozens of broken hearts in his wake.
He has the looks, the charm, the girls, and as an elite football player, he’s heading off to college months earlier than anyone expected. I need to stay in Alpen Springs, to continue to train for the Olympics.
My timing might not be perfect, but I need to fix things with us, and if the fire in his eyes is any indication, nothing, including our clothes, will be immune to its heat.
I don’t stand a chance of resisting.
Conflicting goals and distance be damned...I am about to entrust my heart to my ex-best friend who is known for breaking them.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Not having read the previous book in this series had me worried that I'd be missing out on something with Ryker and Gabby, but this book immediately plunges readers into their complicated feelings before setting them on an oh so satisfying journey to HEA.  With each turn of the page their connection is put to the test, with unexpected twists and turns seeing them mature as they address each one to make the most of their second chance.

Ryker's the proverbial athletic playboy, beloved by his hometown and chased after by all the girls as he's destined for college and the NFL.  To the world at large he's sexy, confident, and seems carefree and fun-loving with a strong sense of loyalty and a hidden heart of gold that's most apparent in his interactions with his sister.  Behind that facade though is someone scared of loss, someone uncomfortable dealing with the complex feelings he has for his best friend Gabby.  Those fears are part of what drives this meant to be pairing apart and what ultimately brings them back together in their second chance at romance.  Though there were times I was frustrated by Ryker early on, I couldn't help falling for him as once he committed to his feelings for Gabby he didn't hold back in a sweet and sensual give and take.

Gabby's been in Ryker's world since they were young, becoming inseparable and very important to each other from the moment they met.  It's clear to everyone that these friends were meant to be more but Gabby doesn't feel that she'll be enough for Ryker while he fears any matters of the heart which leads to an uncomfortable time for them as well as time apart.  All roads ultimately lead them back to each other though in an emotionally engaging second chance at romance that had me cheering this pair on every step of the way...through every twist and turn thrown their way.  Gabby's a likable heroine, focused and hard working, as she's determined to medal in the Olympics for snowboarding.  Her devotion to her sport is matched only by her affection for Ryker but it will take a lot of compromise for these two to navigate the needs of the heart with the needs of the soul.

There's much about this book that's familiar but that didn't detract from my enjoyment of it as this was an appealing couple with a deliciously naughty hero and a strong-willed but vulnerable heroine.  The timeframe of this story takes this couple from teens to college and along the way readers see moments of frustrating immaturity to surprising maturity as these two finally committed to each other while dealing with their obligations to their chosen sports.  Theirs is a rocky journey to HEA but it's also sweet and sexy to see these former friends become something much more in an epic romance that captivated me wholeheartedly.  Along with this likable main couple comes a cast of secondary characters that left a lasting impression on me.  Among them are perpetual virgin Brody and single dad Will, both sweet and endearing, and I look forward to their stories being told.  By the turn of the final page fans of friends to lovers romances will be left charmed and immensely satisfied by the hard-fought journey this pair took and counting down the days until we revisit these wonderful characters.

My rating for this is a B+

Book Cover Reveal for A Very Bossy Christmas by Kayley Loring......

With the holidays fast approaching, readers will find this fun and flirty romance the perfect holiday gift as a boss has his assistant play his fake girlfriend with things quickly turning oh so real.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of A Very Bossy Christmas by Kayley Loring, while enjoying this Ho-Ho-Hot Cover, then start counting down the days until this book hits shelves on October 26th!

What’s the actual last thing you’d ever want your executive assistant to see you doing the morning after you had hot, drunk, angry sex with her in a terrible hotel room? Dancing around your terrible hotel room to “Come and Get Your Love” like Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy—naked? Yeah. Me too.
And yet, here we are.
This isn’t even the most unprofessional thing that’s happened between us in the past couple of weeks.
The first was when I agreed to let her have Christmas Day off, but only if she goes with me to three family gatherings as my fake girlfriend.
The second was when she caught me belting out a Christmas song on stage in the awful hotel bar.
The third was the hot, drunk, angry sex that followed, but I do not regret it.
And she hasn’t even found out the real reason I need her by my side this holiday season.
I need to pull it together before I do the dumbest, most unprofessional thing of all—fall head over heels in love with the only assistant who’s lasted more than a month at the job and claims to hate me and my moods more than she hates eggnog.
And I’ve seen how much she hates eggnog.

Book Spotlight on Here for You by Pat Simmons (GIVEAWAY).....

Fans of inspirational romances will be drawn to this tale of sacrifice and love as end of life issues are balanced with a loved one's crisis of faith in an emotionally powerful romance.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Here for You by Pat Simmons, then add it to your bookshelf.  In honor of this second installment in the Family Is Forever series make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win 1 of 5 copies of the first book in this series too!

Emotional, poignant women’s fiction from acclaimed inspirational romance author Pat Simmons featuring a hero and heroine who are better at taking care of other people than themselves, a dark moment that shakes their faith, and a profoundly satisfying happy ending.
Caregivers sometimes need a little TLC too.
Rachel Knicely’s life has been on hold for six months while she takes care of her great aunt, who has Alzheimer’s. Putting her aunt first was an easy decision—accepting that Aunt Tweet is nearing the end of her battle is far more difficult.
Nicholas Adams’s ministry is bringing comfort to those who are sick and homebound. He responds to a request for help for an ailing woman but when he meets the Knicelys, he realizes Rachel is the one who needs support the most. Nicholas is charmed by and attracted to Rachel, but then devastating news brings both a crisis of faith and roadblocks to their budding relationship that neither could have anticipated.

EXCERPT:

With Aunt Tweet gone, there would be no more ministerial visits. It was up to Rachel to do her own soul-searching, and she needed inspiration now more than ever to ease the hurt of her wounded spirit.
She continued her stroll down one aisle of the parking lot, inhaling the unseasonably warm April air and gaining strength from the sunshine. Although her mind was drifting as she recalled happy times with her aunt, she heard footsteps behind her.
“Rachel.” The voice was unmistakable. Had she conjured him up? A breeze brought a whiff of a familiar cologne to confirm Nicholas was nearby.
She shaded her eyes from the sunlight with her hands until he stood within a few feet of her. She had never seen him dressed up before, and he was handsome beyond measure in a suit and tie. He looked serious until he caught her staring again, and he smiled.
“I saw you step out. I wanted to check on you. Are you okay?” He frowned.
“Will I ever be?” she said more to herself. “I was hoping no one saw me,” she said, “especially Jacqui."
“Yes, you will, and I did.” His voice was barely above a whisper. “I’m flying out in a few hours, but I would like to pray with you before I go.” Why did his words seem to lighten her burdens?
“Thanks for coming here.” Rachel’s eyes watered, but she got a handle on her emotions. “I didn’t realize ministers attended the funerals, especially those who are out of town."
“I wanted to be here for you. The location didn’t matter."
“Thank you, Minister Adams."
“Always Nicholas to you. I don’t need the title to do God’s work."
His words were kind and thoughtful.
“Okay.” She studied him, really looked at him. Was there a special lady in his life waiting for him to propose? If so, the woman had a keeper, Rachel thought as he watched her.
Nicholas blinked first, then cleared his throat. “I called a couple of times to check up on you. Did you get my messages?"
Rachel shrugged. “Jacqui has been checking messages, answering emails, and stuff. I’m sorry.” She bowed her head, embarrassed.
“Hey.” That low voice of his gently commanded her to look at him. “I’m available to listen about anything whenever you want to talk."
He reached for her hands. His fingers were coarse but gentle. “Father, in the name of Jesus, let Rachel feel Your presence from this day forward. Comfort her when she’s lonely, and when she’s weak, give her strength. And let the memories of her aunt give her joy..."
His words were like a balm to her spirit. Rachel whispered, “Amen,” with him when he finished. “Thank you."
“Anytime. Take time to heal emotionally and mentally. There’s no expiration date for the process, and remember what I said—if you call me, I’ll listen.” He frowned, and his stare was intense. “I mean that, Rachel,” he said and squeezed her hand.
Although the gesture was comforting, Rachel yearned for a hug, one of those cocoon-type embraces where she could close her eyes and sigh as she snuggled. But she had no one to offer her that.
When he released his hold, his eyes seemed to dance with amusement as he glanced down at her feet. “Oh, and I wouldn’t walk too far in those heels. My feet hurt even thinking about it.” He shivered, then chuckled before he swaggered away.
“A man with a sense of humor.” Mirth stirred in her belly until a chuckle escaped her lips. He actually had made her laugh.
Later that night, back at Tabitha and Marcus’s house in her old neighborhood, the sisters’ heels, dresses, and makeup came off. They lounged in the family room in their flannel pj’s, reminiscing about Aunt Tweet and the sizeable inheritance she had left them.
Marcus entered the room. “Came to check on you ladies and give my wife this.” He leaned over the sofa and brushed a kiss against Tabitha’s lips.
Rachel’s heart fluttered; she longed for that type of deep-rooted affection. The couple was a perfect match for each other. He had been Tabitha’s rock when she needed it. Aunt Tweet had been a handful while she stayed with Tabitha, but Marcus had somehow wormed his way into their lives and charmed her aunt and Tabitha too.
“Okay, I came for what I needed. Carry on.” He grinned and ducked to escape the pillow Tabitha aimed at her new hubby’s head.
When Tabitha faced her sisters, Rachel and Kym were smiling.
“You’ve definitely got you a winner, Sis,” Kym said and sighed. “Honestly, I thought Rachel would beat us to the altar."
“Me too,” Tabitha agreed, “but I have no regrets about being first. Aunt Tweet harped on having no regrets, and I have none being Mrs. Marcus Whittington."
“I don’t know why you thought I would get hitched first.” Rachel shook her head. Kym gave her a surprised look. “Because you draw men like a car show—from your sultry voice to your calculated catwalk to your form- fitting fashions. You, dear baby sister, have men wrapped around your manicured finger."
“I think that was wishful thinking, but you don’t see any standing in line with a ring, do you?” Rachel challenged them.
“Nicholas Adams might be a prospect. Marcus likes him, and he did make a special trip to be by your side during our sorrow.” Tabitha nodded. “And that man is downright good-looking."
“Nope.” Kym shook her head. “He’s hot—sizzling,” she teased. “He’s a minister. That’s what he does—prays and is there for people.” “I think you need to rethink that, because I would give that darker
version of actor Daniel Supta a second look."
“It’s Sunjata who played on Graceland, and both men are unmistakably handsome. I figured ministers are attracted to women of God like missionaries or evangelists, and as my two sisters have pointed out, I may have other men wrapped tight, but Nicholas—I mean—Minister Adams’s focus is on God’s work."
“If you say so,” Kym said and eyed Tabitha. “You may be part of his work in progress in a personal way.”
Nicholas wasn’t interested in her in that way. He hadn’t asked for a date or dinner but offered her prayer, which, surprisingly, Rachel couldn’t get enough of, as if she were dying of thirst and hearing it quenched it.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

The glitz, glamour, and surprises of the Winter Olympics were on vivid display in this YA romance that brings together two teens from opposite sides of the world as they strive to be the best in their field while dealing with their own personal issues.  The two find an unexpected connection that gives them support when they need it most while opening up their hearts to a future they never thought possible in a story that pulled at my heartstrings.

From the moment readers start this book they'll find themselves quickly immersed in the competitive sports worlds of snowboarding (courtesy of 17 year old Bryce) and ice skating (courtesy of 16 year old Daria) through vividly depicted scenes that were an encyclopedia of knowledge that put me in the middle of the action.  Incredible moves, poetic poses, and indisputable athleticism wrapped me up in all the thrills and chills of these sports and I applaud the author for making me feel like a part of the action.  While I appreciate learning all there is to know about these sports there were times where it did feel a bit overwhelming and it was a distraction from the sweet and supportive relationship brewing between these two teens.  While I'm not normally a fan of YA stories, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed Bryce and Daria.  They were young in years, but in words and deeds they were wise beyond those years as much of their lives were spent practicing and competing which leaves little time for fun.  These two understand the sacrifices and the daily pain, both physically and mentally, that sports take on them and it's what binds them together early on.  Making circumstances for them even more difficult is their having to deal with medical issues, issues that have them feeling alone and a bit resentful too.  For California boy Bryce, who has Type 1 diabetes, it's a daily regimen of tests and eating healthy while coping with the stresses of practice in an ongoing loop that has him wishing he could be like other teen boys. Russian ice skater Daria is carrying the hopes of her family on her shoulders while dealing with the loss of a loved one.  She too has a medical condition she's dealing with, hyperhidrosis, that causes profuse sweating that's both embarrassing and causing open sores on her feet.  These are heavy issues these two teens are having to deal with and I was glad they could lean on each other.  Together they found unconditional support, a chance to open up without fear of letting others down, and it was a natural progression to see their hearts soon become involved.  It's a sweet romance behind the bright lights of sports, one full of promise that grabbed my heart and didn't let go.  Who knew that traveling halfway around the world would introduce you to the other half of your heart...but that's exactly what Bryce and Daria found.

On a whole this was a sweet and heartwarming romance set in the world of sports, one that vividly depicted the intricate moves of ice skating and snowboarding to immerse you in all the ins and outs.  Bryce and Daria were immensely likable, easy to relate to as they struggled with personal and professional issues that the author never sugarcoated. Their struggles had me aching for them as it caused them to grow up way too soon, but at least they had each other to help them get through the tough times.  With each turn of the page I became more and more invested in this couple and was cheering them on, both in hopes of winning a medal and in hopes that their romance will continue.  The conclusion though leaves things a bit up in the air, but seeing how strong their connection is has left me with high hopes that their romance continues into adulthood and I'm hoping the author will revisit this couple again soon!

My rating for this is a B+

Book boyfriends are better.
My book boyfriends go with me everywhere. I prefer them tall, dark, and handsome, but I don’t discriminate. They sweep me off my feet and are always there when I need them—in my purse, in my car, and even in my bathtub.
Book boyfriends may not be real, but at least they won’t break my heart…or get another girl pregnant. I don’t do relationships. I get one whiff and run in the opposite direction. It took me seven years to mend my broken heart, and I’m not about to hand it over again.

CATCH UP ON THE PREVIOUS BOOKS IN THE WILD LOVE SERIES - LOVE TO HATE HER & HATE TO LOVE HIM - here.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

This is the book I've been waiting for ever since finishing the Wild Minds duet!  From the turn of the final page I was captivated by Gus and found this story an utter delight!  Though the overall storyline is familiar, in the very talented hands of Ms. Saman this romance became one of epic proportions.  It also presented me with another addition to my list of book boyfriends courtesy of the sweet and sexy Gus.  Add in the vulnerable Naomi with a heart of gold and you get to see the power of love in action.

What readers have seen in the past of Gus has been the fun-loving, bigger than life rockstar, who's quick with a smile and a smirk.  Throughout past books layers have been slowly revealing someone else though, someone who wants to find his own HEA, someone a bit melancholy over ruining the chance he had with Viola (even though he knew she and Jasper were meant to be).  He's older and wiser now and has written a song that's the first step in moving on...which brings him to rock singer Naomi.  Their connection is instant and combustible, it has Gus showing a caring and supportive side, and their journey captivated me from that very first moment.  Gus was a wonderful hero, just what Naomi needed after the emotional beating she took from her ex and from her career.  Through each word and deed, each lyric, he showed his support and it endeared him to me even more.

Naomi Kent was once soaring high in the rockstar world...until her ex took the joy of music away from her through his betrayal.  Since then she's just been going through the motions, going through each day on repeat but longing deep inside to find her way back. Gus is just the man to help her do that too and it made for an emotionally intense journey full of heart wrenching and loving moments that kept me glued to the pages. Naomi is a very likable heroine with a good heart and a real love of music that shone through.  It was that love of music that made for a solid foundation between the two and had them making beautiful music together both in the studio and in the bedroom.

This romance was heavy on the emotions, full of twists and turns that kept my emotions in turmoil.  Gus has evolved through each book, become the man we always hoped he'd be after seeing a few tempting tidbits of his caring side.  His relationship with Ady was an especially heartwarming connection that showed that caring side and I loved seeing it continue here.  Naomi's been through a lot and I ached for how much hurt her ex visited on her as he stole the joy of music from her.  It was a slow and steady journey to get that joy back but Gus was there when she needed support most in empowering interactions.  The harsh light of fame shone on this couple throughout the story as well and created extra issues for them that amped up the angst.  It all wrapped up in an engaging ending that has me excited for the next book, a book where Keith takes center stage.

My rating for this is an A.

AUTHOR INFO:

J. Saman loves all types of novels, but finds herself always going back to writing/reading romances. She's addicted to Diet Coke and sour candy, and swears way too much. She writes smart, strong women and sexy alpha (slightly nerdy) men who have a softer side.
