EXCERPT:

She blocked his overhead strike and lashed out so hard and fast with the end of her staff that she finally found her mark directly over his heart. The impact forced him to his knees. Clutching a hand to his chest, he leaned forward. His hair fell over his face, blocking his view of her overhead strike. It fell across the back of his head and knocked him downward so that he scarcely had time to break the fall with his hands. Instinctively his leg lashed out and swept her feet out from under her, sending her crashing to the grass.
Charlie hit the ground with a grunt and remained there for a few seconds, catching her breath. Jocelyn recovered first and sprang to his feet, offering her his hand. She took it, her gaze fixed on his.“Excellent,” he said. “You stunned even me.”
“You weren’t expecting it.” She hated the quiver in her voice. Her hands trembled with the surge of emotions he’d aroused. Now that she’d calmed a bit, she realized why he’d been so awful. He’d deliberately taunted her into fighting him without holding back.
“No, and I haven’t underestimated anyone in a very long time,” he admitted. “None of us are ever too old to learn.”
“I’m sorry if I hurt you.” She tried pulling her hand from his.
“Don’t worry about it. You needed to know you can fight us. Edrik is powerful, but you’re not necessarily at his mercy, not as long as you’re my apprentice.”
“I couldn’t ask for a better teacher.” She said with heartfelt honesty.
“Nor I a better student.” He dropped her hand, collected their weapons, and placed them against the wall. “I think that’s enough for tonight. You may go inside if you want. I’m staying here for a while longer to practice.”
“Do you mind if I watch?” Not only did she find his athleticism aesthetically pleasing, but she learned from observing his technique. Settling herself on the wall, she stretched her arms and shoulders before she became so involved in him that she stared, motionless.
In the center of the yard, he practiced kata, a pre-planned series of movements resembling a powerful, graceful dance, though it was actually a mock fight against an imaginary opponent. She’d never seen anyone perform with his liquid grace and subtle power born from natural talent as well as centuries of practice. Watching the play of muscles beneath the black tank top that clung to his perspiring body, she imagined how it would feel like to be enveloped in his sinewy arms.
As if sensing her thoughts, he turned to her, his dark eyes reflecting the torch flames, his lips parted slightly.
Lightning flashed in the distance. He gazed skyward just before fat raindrops fell through the trees. He approached, but to her surprise, instead of reaching for the staffs, he stepped between her legs, took her face in his hands and covered her mouth in a possessive kiss. Charlie’s heart raced. Moaning softly, she closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around his neck and her legs around his lean waist.

I’ve been a car maker, a consultant, and even a senior executive at a large retailer running strategy. Born in England, spent time in the U.S. and Japan, before ending up in Canada where I met my own, personal hero – all six and a half feet of him. Both of us are scorpios! Yeah, I know! Should have checked the astrological signs earlier, but somehow it works for us. We have two amazing kids, who I either could never part with or could easily be convinced to sell on e-bay.

Book Release Blast for All We Are by JH Croix (REVIEW)……..

Opposites were once attracted before their hearts were ripped away from one another in this unforgettable romance that pulls at reader’s festive heartstrings!  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of All We Are by JH Croix, along with my impressions of this series ender, then add this fourth installment in the Haven's Bay series to your bookshelf!

A swoony small town holiday romance from USA Today Bestselling Author J.H. Croix!
Two broken hearts
One holiday week
Swoony second chance
Holiday hotness
Small town shenanigans
The off-limits bad boy. The rich good girl. High school sweethearts.
The last person I expect to see when my car breaks down is Joe Martinelli. I broke my own heart when I moved away after high school. Joe is my first and only love, and my father refused to let us see each other.
That was all before my father blew our family up and landed in jail for fraud. I meant to escape to Maine for the week before Christmas, except it turns out my brother is holed up at the house with my friend. I have a broken down car and nowhere to go.
Of course, it’s also snowing so heavily I can only see a few feet in front of me. When Joe offers to let me stay at his place, it seems like the smart plan. It has nothing to do with how hot he is, absolutely nothing to do with how much I missed him, and definitely nothing to do with my latest bad luck in romance.
One night turns into two, one kiss turns into three and even more.
Joe & Thea’s story is perfect for readers who love: swoony second chances, broken hearts mended, small town gossip, emotional romance with a dash of angst, plenty of swoon and all the feels, and a protective hero who’ll do anything to win back the only girl he ever loved.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

With readers caught up in holiday preparations, here comes a book that pushes all of their emotional buttons, bringing together joy and bits of steam in a story full of warmth and holiday cheer.  The teenage love between Thea and Joe brought together two people from opposite sides of the tracks...at least that's how her father saw Joe...before he saw to the end of their burgeoning romance.  It was a devastating break-up that's never been forgotten by either of them and when fate steps in to help them cross paths one snowy night these two will make the most of their second chance.

Thea Tate's the youngest of the Tate siblings, someone who loved and lost (courtesy of outside forces), which has left her teeming with cynicism regarding matters of the heart. Through the previous books in this series she's been fundamental in helping her brothers find love and now it feels like it's her turn to find a HEA.  From the moment Joe Martinelli comes to Thea's rescue the sparks reignite, along with hard-truths and painful realities, that these two work through quickly in a true test of their second chance. Theirs was an emotionally engaging journey, one that brought on a few tears while warming my heart as their time together saw them form a family.

Through it all, Thea's a likable heroine with a big heart.  Life's not been kind to her as medical issues have taken away some of her life choices, but being with Joe again brings out strong motherly instincts in her that had me cheering her on as she bonded with his son Joey.  Joe too is a delicious hero, a loving single dad who's never loved another woman but Thea.  From the moment he offers her a place to stay it's clear that he's her knight in shining armor in a romance always meant to be.  As these two grow closer, readers are introduced to Joe's son Joey, an endearing little boy going through issues of his own that puts Thea and Joe's commitment to the test.  The small town of Haven's Bay is a charming locale, one beautifully depicted by the author to immerse you wholeheartedly into this angsty story.  With each turn of the page readers grow closer to this couple, cheering them on as they finally make choices THEY want to make in a heartwarming story that's perfect for the holidays.  Though the ending of this book is wrapped up in a satisfyingly realistic bow, I'm left hoping we see this couple again as this family has brought a lot of joy to reader's lives and I'm not ready to let go of them just yet.

My rating for this is an A-.

EXCERPT:

“I’m kinda wondering why such a good guy would try to sidestep the advances of a woman he admits is beautiful.”
He didn’t know what came over him, except the fact that his common sense exited and his ego stepped up front and center. He came from around the counter, meeting her on the other side, stand- ing as close to her as he could.
To her credit, she wasn’t the least bit put off by his proximity as she leaned into him.
“The thing that makes me good at my job is that I love putting puzzle pieces together to figure out what makes people tick. Once I put all the parts together, I can figure out what motivates folks to do some of the drastic things they do.”
He lifted his hand, slowly pushing the sleek strands of her hair behind her ear, letting his thumb settle at the edge of her jaw.
“Call me old-fashioned.” His voice was a low rumble he almost didn’t recognize. “But I like to do the chasing when I’m interested in a woman.”
She lifted a skeptical brow as they continued their stare-off. “So, you’re not into strong, independent women who know their own minds? You need a docile woman to make yourself feel like a big man?”
“I want nothing less than a strong, independent woman who knows her own mind.” He paused a moment to let his words settle in. “Only I want to put all the pieces together and figure out what she wants before I make a move. I want her to know her worth and make me chase her like the queen she knows she is. I want her to make me work for it. Where’s the fun in having you if I didn’t have to actually put in any work to get you?”
It didn’t escape him that his pronouns for this imaginary woman had switched from third person to second in the span of a few words. He wasn’t even sorry enough to explain he was speaking in generalities to try to cover it up. They both knew he wasn’t, so what was the point. Fire flashed in her eyes, and as sure as he knew his own name, he recognized it for what it was: desire.
He leaned in, noting how bad an idea this was as he did. Then again, watching her lean in as well, he didn’t give a good goddamn. Her plush mouth was slightly parted, and he could feel the drum of her pulse beat faster and harder at her neck. Bad idea or not, there was no way in hell he was giving up the chance to know how that mouth would feel against his.
“Stop me now if this isn’t what you want?” He was gone, intoxicated by his growing need for her. Still, even at the height of this building lust, he wasn’t so far gone that he would ever do this against her will.
“If it wasn’t what I wanted, I’d tell you.”
That sharp tongue was so sexy, and he’d bet all he had that that would be even more true once he tasted it.

Book Tour for Love Tools by Isobel Reed (GIVEAWAY)…

Opposites attract in this tale of a big city gal, and the sexy cowboy, whose banter lights up the pages in a small town romance that will have you breathlessly counting down the days until this book hits shelves on December 6th.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Love Tools by Isobel Reed, along with learning more about the author, then get even more info about this book by visiting the other sites hosting this tour.  In honor of this first installment in the Bluestone series make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a $50 bookstore GC too!

What kind of writer am I? by Isobel Reed.....
Hmm. I’m going to go ahead and say messy. I’m a messy writer. As organized as I try to be in my day-to-day life, all that goes out the window when I’m writing.
I have a nice, civilized desk and desk chair that I spent a small fortune on. Well, not a small fortune, but you know, I spent money that could have gone on books or pizza on them. But do I use it to write my books? I think you can see where this is going. No. Not really. Not as often as I should anyway. I sit on my sofa, or more like twist myself into a pretzel on my sofa with my laptop and write love stories.
Sofa slouching could be forgiven if I had some sort of sensible writing structure. Again, I think you know where I’m going with this. There is no structure. It’s just chaos. Absolute freaking mayhem.
I see all my lovely author friends post pretty pictures on their social media accounts of their writing process. There are lots of daily writing goals, storyboards, and fancy plotting processes. I’ve even seen a scary picture of a huge whiteboard featuring detailed planning schedules. I am not this person. I am the person who lies awake at night talking to imaginary characters in my head. I’m the person waking her husband up at 3am to write a scene on my phone before I forget it. I’m also the person who has no idea how the story I’m writing is going to play out until I’m in the middle of it.
The same havoc happens when it comes to word counts. Some days I can sit and write 4,000 words, other days it’s like my brain has malfunctioned and I don’t write anything. I’m still waiting for the day I wake up a beautiful, well-adjusted, organizational goddess. I’ll create color coded schedules, buy a whiteboard, and actually check my calendar every day.

When city girl Lily shows up in Bluestone County, cocky cowboy Jake reckons it won’t be long until she hightails it back to London. It didn’t matter that his heart rate spiked whenever she was nearby. Or that he couldn’t get her out of his head. Because Jake was the king of casual and Lily was apparently the queen of picking the wrong men.

EXCERPT:

“You about done checking me out darlin’ or do ya want me to turn around and show you the back?” Her face flamed as her eyes flicked back up to his face and she caught sight of his cocky grin. Before she could attempt to deny what she’d been doing, his expression turned more serious as he took his turn running his eyes up and down her. “I didn’t know Matt had a daughter.”
Surprise, surprise.
“No s***. He wasn’t exactly father of the year.”
Lily couldn’t help but think of the irony. Her father had become friends with some guy young enough to be his son, yet he still couldn’t quite be bothered to pick up the phone and call his own daughter.
His smile became crooked as his glare intensified. “You always swear like a trucker, darlin’? Here, I thought English women were all class and manners.”
Is he being serious?
Letting out a huff, she couldn’t believe the nerve of this guy, “I’m sorry, have I stepped into the past? Are you gonna ask me why a little woman like me isn’t married next?”
“Alright sweetheart, calm down.” He sniggered, clearly amused by the steam coming out of her ears.
Stepping closer to him, she tilted her head up to meet his gaze. “I’m not or will I ever be your sweetheart. Now if you don’t mind, you need to get the hell out of my store before I call the police."

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Readers looking for an exhilarating read with a bit of romance, and a lot of suspense, will get all that and more with this latest installment in the Bluegrass Bravery series. Though this is the 16th book in the series it stands strongly on its own courtesy of a strong main couple whose connection was both sensual and supportive in their goal of finding justice.  Based loosely on a real crime (one detailed at the beginning) the lives of the main couple become intertwined in a captivating tale that will keep you guessing until the very end, holding on for dear life with each turn of the page.

Michael Edwards has been recently promoted and it has him out to prove himself.  He's a determined man, competent and caring, out to protect the people of his community.  He finds himself distracted though with the department's new hire, Samara Futrell, a detective dealing with cold cases with a background weighed down by her own past assault.  She's a wonderful heroine, one who's tougher than you expect and whose background helps her bond with a slew of others recently assaulted as she sets out to discover whodunit.  This pair had an instant attraction and perfectly balanced their burgeoning romance with gathering evidence and trying to stay one step ahead of the culprit as danger crept ever closer to Samara.  It's a mystery that was well-crafted, the culprit being someone who poses a real threat to both Samara and Michael, and I was on the edge of my seat from the moment the culprit was revealed to the moment they were captured.  This exhilarating mystery brought this couple closer together, bound them emotionally and through their goal of bringing this evil to an end.  Theirs was a journey full of action and suspense, a love full of heart and soul, and a storyline that balanced all of that beautifully in a story that I definitely recommend.

My rating for this is an A.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Halloween may be over but readers will find this book the perfect treat as apparent opposites find a sweet and sensual connection that kept me glued to the pages with its unique and unforgettable storyline.  With its modern-day take on the Frankenstein legend, Ms. Jordan grabbed reader's attention from the very first page to the last through witty banter and a charming romance that warmed my heart.

Viktor Adamovic isn't your parent's Frankenstein monster.  He might've been put together one piece at a time but beneath his polished exterior lies the real monster...a protective and commanding beast whose scenes with Lucy West were combustible.  It makes them a compelling pair, a formidable pair, who come together to wage war against the people and events of his past in a relationship that might've started out as a marriage of convenience but soon became all too real and meaningful to them both.

On a whole this was a quick read, one that sucked me in from the very start.  It's a cleverly crafted tale that beautifully balanced a sweet and sexy romance with pain from the past.  It fueled so many different emotions in me too...warming my heart one moment, then making me blush, before leaving me with a smile on my face the next. Readers looking for a unique romance, one that breaks the mold, will definitely want to add this book to their shelf while hoping that Ms. Jordan breaks more storytelling molds in the future!

My rating for this is an A.
