Book Release Blitz for Puffin Bay by Annie Dyer (REVIEW)…….

A suit-wearing city man goes toe-to-toe with a small town woman recovering from heartbreak in this sweet and sensual journey of opposites attracting.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Puffin Bay by Annie Dyer, along with getting my impressions of this first installment in the Puffin Bay series, then add it to your bookshelf too!

Heartbreak led me to Puffin Bay, searching for peace in a small, coastal town. Four years later, my bar is thriving and my next business is just what the town needs.
It doesn’t need Roman Tominey. Arrogant, city-boy, suit-wearing grump - he knows how to push every one of my buttons, and after an evening of bad decisions, he knows how to push that one too.
When Roman’s newly found teenage son joins him, Roman’s summer stay is extended. We spend the days arguing over a building project the local council insisted we did together, and the evenings with him sneaking into my room.
Roman’s a businessman with his own ambitions for Puffin Bay - and they don’t agree with mine. Our differences could turn our not-so-secret romance to dust, but my grumpy single dad doesn’t seem to want to stop the sparks.
Even if he has to discard his suit - and its buttons - to keep on pressing mine.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

A delightful small town romance drives this tale of opposites attracting in the bedroom while fighting each other in public.  With a likable main couple, and a colorful community of characters just screaming for their stories to be told, this ends up being a sweet and entertaining series starter that kept me turning the pages with a smile on my face.

Amelie is the kind of heroine that you like from the very start.  She was seen in a previous series of books by Ms. Dyer and quickly became someone readers wanted to see get a HEA.  With her move to this small town she's made a successful start for herself, becoming a strong and confident businesswoman.  She's a more mature heroine than you usually find in romance books, fiercely independent, and a bit set in her plans for herself and the town.  She's thoroughly endeared herself to the denizens of the town though and I truly enjoyed her interactions with each and every one of them.  She's unfortunately had her heart stomped on in the past which has her barricading her heart behind a very thick wall of distrust...a wall that Roman starts to wear down the moment he meets Amelie.

Roman Tominey is a big city developer who comes to this small town with a plan of his own after buying a piece of land Amelie wanted, a plan that immediately puts them at odds but also shows sexual sparks igniting between the two apparent opposites. Roman's a stoic and determined man, a man who looks a bit too polished for small town living, but he and Amelie just clicked.  As the story progressed, as he and Amelie had more and more clandestine encounters, and as he interacted more with his grandfather and newfound son, readers discovered a softer and more vulnerable side that made him very appealing.

Amelie and Roman were an entertaining couple with witty and playful banter teeming with sexual tension.  To the outside world they seemed like opposites but in the bedroom they crackled in their secret connection.  This was a pleasant read on a whole with no manufactured drama, just a glimpse of small town living with a HEA made possible through the machinations of the likable and colorful townsfolk.  Ms. Dyer beautifully and realistically depicted Puffin Bay, showed a sweetly serene and idyllic town and gave readers numerous appealing denizens that enriched this story and made me smile.  Among the secondary characters, I found myself particularly drawn to Roman's grandfather and son.  His grandfather was utterly charming with homespun humor and wisdom that warmed my heart while bringing out a soft and caring side to Roman that made his interactions with his son Caleb even more emotionally satisfying.  Fleur too caught my attention...thanks to an unexpected twist towards the end that has me counting down the days until the next installment in the Puffin Bay series hits bookshelves!

My rating for this is an A-/B+

My future is planned, and it doesn't include a relationship.
The last one destroyed me. I was in love...but she was in love with my money. So, I'm done with that.
Instead, I'm throwing my energy into mentoring the younger players on the team and planning for the end of my NHL career. Since I only speak in three word sentences, my next move is going to shock everyone.
Once I hang my skates up, I want to be a full-time country singer/songwriter. No one knows that I write music and perform, but I'm cocky enough to know it’ll happen. I’ve got the talent. I’ve got the drive. Nothing is going to stand in my way.
Until a freak accident on the ice causes enough damage that I lose my voice. I don't know if I'll be able to talk....let alone sing, again.
It's in physical therapy where I meet her. Kingsley. She's the best therapist around and if anyone can get me singing again, it's her. But the more time I spend with her, the more I have to remind myself of my no-relationships rule.
And when I enter a songwriting contest, it turns out, Kingsley has entered too.
Now crushes don’t matter. She's my competition.
And I have a new rule: Don’t get close to Kingsley and my heart won’t get broken.

An ex-cop returning to face his horrendous past, the woman who won’t forgive him, and the family who’ll never let him forget that he killed their son.
First Nations Constable Jordan Chartrand’s guilt can’t handle the accusing stares from the family left to mourn their son after that horrible night...so he flees from his Ojibway community and the woman he loves. Two years later, his mother’s cancer diagnosis forces him to return to help her.
Devoted schoolteacher Ellie Quill wants nothing to do with Jordan after he bolted to the city and left her behind. Her life goals are set. As for her secret, she’ll keep that to herself, even if Jordan’s begging to know the truth about her child.
When the two are compelled to work on a community project to address the rampant drug problem, their forced proximity slowly melts Ellie’s icy walls. But no matter how much her heart desires to give Jordan the second chance he’s begging for, she refuses to because providing a life for her son in the tradition of the Ojibway culture is her top priority now, not moving to the city where Jordan continues to hide.

EXCERPT:

The bell tinkled above the door. Ellie, still hedging her way instead of outright walking, inched her way to the table. She set her purse on the back of the chair.
“I ordered a pot of tea. You wanna share?”
“Sounds good. What kind? The last time we met, the caffeine kept me up too late.”
“Good ol’ spruce. Your fave.” His face grew hot. Maybe he shouldn’t bring up reminders of the past.
The way her skin shone said she was flattered he’d remembered.
He gave himself a fictitious pat on the back for earning a point. “And fresh honey.”
Her smile was on the coy side. “Really? You’re going all out, aren’t you?”
Hmm, she was getting comfy and grinning. Her elbow rested on the table, and she’d cupped her chin in her palm. He also leaned in and caught a whiff of her fresh scent.
The waitress sauntered over with their pot of tea and honey. She set down the items and sashayed away, smirking.
Ellie’s brows bunched.
Jordan was about ready to arrest the waitress and cart her off to the holding cell for inciting irritation. Now he had to calm Ellie down before she found an excuse and bolted. “Never mind her. You know how people are around the rez. You can’t do anything without them squawking about it.”
He poured their teas.
Ellie continued to frown in the waitress’ direction.
“You gonna give her the power to dictate your feelings?”
“What?” Ellie squinted and faced him.

“You were having a good time. You gonna let her ruin it for you?”
“You’re right.” Ellie fixed her tea. “It’s been too long since I last went out.”
“That’s the spirit.” Jordan lifted his mug and sipped. The spruce mixed with honey was sweet pleasure on his tongue.
“Tell me something...” Ellie peeked at him over the rim of her mug.
“What’d you wanna know? I’m an open book.” He couldn’t help setting his forearm on the table. “Winnipeg.”
His spine stiffened. “Winnipeg?”
Ellie nodded. “How’s your life going there?”
The sincerity in her gaze said she wasn’t attempting to goad him but sincerely wanted to know. It’d be a helluva lot better if you and your child were with me. Instead, he said, “It took some getting used to, but I don’t mind it. The pay could be better.”
“Where are you living?”
“North end. I got a bachelor suite. It came furnished.” “You’re working at Portage Place. Right?”
“Yep. When I got the job, I wanted to be close by. Not stuck in some crazy commute. The north end also has a lot of ’Nish, so I feel right at home,” he told her, using the familiar shortened slang for Anishinaabe.
“Are you making lots of friends there?” She blew on her tea.
“Yeah. I made a few at work and met lots through the patrol group.”
Her lips parted, and then she clamped her mouth shut.
He’d best let her know he wasn’t dating anyone or hadn’t dated anyone. “I go home to a cold beer and TV dinner once I’m done my shift. That’s been my life for the last two years.”
“Oh?” Her gaze searched his face.

He didn’t look away. The offer was on the table. They’d come to the point where they had to shit or get off the pot. And he wasn’t getting off the toilet quite yet. “I told you why I had to leave.” He lowered his voice and leaned in even closer. “I couldn’t stay here after what happened. Leaving you behind...D’you really think I’d start dating again? After a girl like you?”
The lush bronze color on her face slowly turned white.
“When you came back after getting your teaching degree, and I saw li’l Ellie all grown up, damned straight I went and talked to your class. After our first date, I knew then you were the only woman for me.” His cards were laid on the table. Now he’d find out if she’d play a game of poker with him or forfeit her hand.

Cassandra
Growing up, I was mesmerized by a man soaring the skies.
The greatest silk aerialist in the world, Chandler Moreau.
He was once my lifeline, the dream I clung to after my parents died.
I’ve always believed he was my destiny. To join him at the Dreamers Academy. To perform for him.
To soar with him.
He’s more than I ever imagined. Far more than a mentor. When I am high in the silks, turning, flying, falling, he’s my lifeline once again. Twisting my heart and my body into knots like the knots of his beloved Japanese rope bondage, Shibari.
I don’t want to live without him. With each lesson, each touch, I crave more. Only he can satisfy me. And only he can destroy me...
But I must keep him safe from the past that relentlessly follows me.
Chandler
She is my protégé, the student I’ve been waiting to take under my wing for my entire career. Someone with whom I could share my lifelong journey in my family’s circus, Cirque du Lys.
I never intended to fall in love with the student I was supposed to protect—from myself and the demons that lurk in my shadows. But sometimes fate has other plans.
Cassandra, my beautiful butterfly. I know she’s off limits. Forbidden. Still, I want her in my life. My heart. My bed.
My grandfather's taunting words still linger. Mieux vaut plier que rompre.
Adapt and survive.
It’s what we must do. Cassandra and I share a history that entwines us more than the silks we’ve spent our lives mastering ever could.
There are secrets from the past that must never be told. And truths that could destroy what we’ve just begun...

EXCERPT:

“I’ve got you, Cassandra,” I called out to her, gently. Steadying myself, my body locked in place. Breathing slow and rhythmic and calm. I watched her take the same breath as I had, waiting for the little drop in the lyrics before the next few lines began.
The moment their voices bellowed into the theater again, she let herself drop in a salto. In a gentle sweep of my body, I caught her gracefully into my arms. Twisted us together, letting the silks take hold of the two of us as we swung across the room, dozens of feet above the stage below us. Falling like two feathers locked together, dancing into the wind.
When the fabrics released us, I swung us outward. Our bodies drifted apart again as she spun around me, both of us still descending toward the floor. As beautiful as she looked, circling outward away from me, the moment she had, I wanted her back. I used my legs to give myself enough momentum to swing forward, latching on again once she’d appeared.
Cassandra had been so close I’d felt her breath against my face while we dangled above the stage. I got lost in the way it felt to be tangled up with her, a mess of bodies and fabric. Consumed by it. Convinced I might never let go of her again.
As we’d traversed the rest of the way back to the stage, I didn’t. The two of us descended together as a singular unit, just her and I and the fabrics. Improvising the graceful fall we were doing, finding little tricks and motions to carry out, all the while never leaving her side.

We’d both reached the floor, perfectly in sync with one another. I heard a gentle thump as we landed. Followed by the sound of both of our light, audible breaths. Steadying ourselves back on the ground.
Even having left the air, the silks still wrapped around us. Neither of us had freed ourselves. Cassandra was still in my arms, something I realized, when I hadn’t been so caught up in what we were doing all those feet above us, was happening for the very first time.
The sweet smell of oranges overwhelmed me. Her beautiful hazel eyes, those captivating flecks of grays and greens and browns, drowned out the world around us. I watched her breathing softly, holding her to me and those silks holding me to her.
And in those next few moments, every single solitary thing keeping me from her since the day we had met no longer existed in the little reality we were trapped in. Every fear I had, every reservation, disappeared. I tightened her to me, my hands capturing the sides of her face in a gentle sweep, as elegant as every other thing we’d done those last few minutes.
Our mouths fell together, and I lost myself in her. Trapped in those profound and so unbelievably relieving seconds in which the things that had stood in our way no longer mattered.
I hadn’t thought anything could have surpassed the experience the two of us just shared. Undeniably, it had been the best minutes I had ever spent in those silks in my entire career. As simple as it had been. And we had barely started. This was only the beginning.
But this moment now was just as wonderful. As perfect as I could have hoped.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

D.M. Earl continues to thrill with this exhilarating cross country road trip that brings together four prospects who leave their mark with each mile they travel.  From the very start this story amps up the excitement as Hannah, Kitty, Dani and Dotty decide to head to Texas for a book signing without consent from their Club Prez.  These prospects are determined to live life to the fullest, be bold while supporting each other unconditionally, and I loved watching their interactions with all their Girl Power glory.

This story completely captivated me, pushed every one of my emotional buttons on a rollercoaster ride of oohs, aahs, and oh mys!  I gasped with the dramatic twists and turns, clapped with the cleverly crafted reveals, and laughed while watching these four young women get answers to the mysteries they stumble across.  Some of those mysteries are fun while some are a bit more impactful to the storyline.  Add in interactions with other Clubs, as well as the Devil's Handmaidens catching up to the wayward prospects, and things turn even more suspenseful and exhilarating.  This story definitely stands strongly on its own, but I recommend reading the previous two installments in the Devil's Handmaiden MC series to see the early interactions of these prospects as well as getting more insight into some of Tink and Zoey's actions here. Seeing so many secondary characters leant a familial vibe to this story, a family not of blood but by unconditional support that will keep me coming back for more.  On a whole readers will find this a decadent delight, a tale that makes the perfect reread, giving a little something to every reader.  After so many emotionally intense stories I found this the kind of book that cleanses the palate, leaving me feeling immensely satisfied...and for this I give D.M. Earl much appreciation!

My rating for this is an A-

Book Cover Reveal for Something Unexpected by Vi Keeland….

A grandmother determined to live the last of her life to the fullest brings together the young newfound friend joining her in her escapades and the grandson worried over her behavior in this charming and romantic tale.  Keep reading to get a tempting glimpse of Something Unexpected by Vi Keeland, then start counting down the days until this contemporary story full of heart and soul hits bookshelves on July 3rd!

When my grandmother found out she didn’t have long to live, she embarked on a crazy trip—jumping out of airplanes and scuba diving with sharks.
After I repeatedly voiced my concern, Gram blocked me—her own grandson—on text and social media, leaving me only her travel companion Eleanor’s number.
Eleanor started sending me pictures of Gram’s adventures. At first she seemed nice, but when I attempted to persuade her to talk some sense into her friend, she told me where I could stick my advice. After that, photos arrived with snarky comments, and Eleanor and I got into it on more than one occasion.
When I heard Gram’s upcoming plans were more dangerous than ever, I hopped on a plane.
Since I arrived late, I headed to the bar for a drink, figuring I’d surprise her in the morning.
To my delight, I met a gorgeous woman looking for a no-strings-attached night. Nora was just what I needed. She invited me back to her room, telling me to give her a ten-minute head start. But when I went to pay her bar tab, I realized how much she’d had to drink. As much as I wanted to ignore it, I couldn’t. So I stood Nora up.
I knew she’d be pissed, but I also knew I’d never see her again.
Except never came a little early. Namely, the next morning when I went to meet my grandmother and her evil-spinster friend. Because old Eleanor turned out to be young Nora from last night. And if I thought the woman disliked me before, that was nothing compared to how ticked-off she was now. Or how unhappy she was going to be that their party of two was about to become a party of three.
