Happy Halloween 2020!!!

As if this year hasn’t been scary enough on its own.....LOL!  However you celebrate tonight make sure you wear masks (and not just your costume’s mask either) and respect people’s personal bubbles while having fun.  If you’re staying in, enjoy a slew of scary movies (I still can’t rewatch The Exorcist after seeing it as a kid) or a scary romance novel (the overarching theme of JR Ward’s BDB series is riveting and creepy if you need a recommendation).  To all you stopping by....Happy Halloween!

Don’t ever, ever, ever go near that boy. Not unless you want to be a single mother at seventeen. That boy is Bad with a capital B.
The words that my father spoke to me when it came to Trouper Aoki didn’t scare me like they probably should.
In fact, they only made me intrigued all the more.
When it came to Troup, there was just no resisting fate when it came to the two of us.
Even at eighteen, when we went our separate ways with the promise to come back to each other once we were done pursuing our careers, I knew he would always be it for me.
And color me surprised when eight years after making that pact with Trouper, we were once again reunited. Only this time in an undercover FBI investigation—me, the FBI officer, and Troup call sign ‘State’ as a military liaison.
Trouble always finds him. You’d do better to run far, far away.
Truer words had never been spoken.
From the time Troup was a young boy, he’d been in some kind of trouble.
So it only goes to show when he winds up in the FBI investigation with none other than Beckham Spurlock, his high school sweetheart, things are bound to go wrong.
Only, he has no idea how wrong until things go bad. Really, really bad.
All it takes is saving her by hurting another for him to see the wrong side of a jail cell.
To make matters worse, he has to live the next fifteen years in prison knowing that his son will grow up without him. And the woman he loves will likely move on to a man that isn’t so much trouble.

Lani Lynn Vale is a Wall Street Journal & USA Today Bestselling Author of over thirty titles. She is married with three children, two dogs, two cats, a donkey, and a couple (a couple also meaning over twenty) chickens.
When she’s not writing, you can find her curled up in her favorite chair reading. Lani is married with three children and lives in the Great State of Texas.

Good things come to those who bake.
When her father suddenly dies, Elise is thrown out of the only home she’s ever known and pawned off to the baker who wants her to do more than stuff his cannolis. Out of options, she decides to make a run for it during a snowstorm with her only earthly possession: her dog, Monsieur Croque.
They’ve waited their entire lives for her.
Living in seclusion due to a pact, wolf shifters Sacha and Lucian lead quiet lives in the forest; living off the land, hunting, and dreaming of one day claiming the pastry chef they’ve been admiring from afar. On a night like any other, they hear her cries and come to her rescue. Finally in their possession, the smitten brothers lay claim to the baking beauty, and Elise is about to discover that sometimes you can have your cake and eat it too.

Book Cover Reveal for Heartless by Sybil Bartel.....

A former soldier always cool and controlled out in the field finds himself thrown into chaos by a scared woman whose lies might put both of them in danger in his new career as a bodyguard.  Keep reading to get a tempting glimpse of Heartless by Sybil Bartel, then start counting down the days until this ninth installment in the Alpha Bodyguard series hits bookshelves on November 23rd!

Explosives expert.
There was a reason I was the only Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician in the Marines who’d never sustained any injuries. I didn’t take risks. Ever. My actions were precise. My thoughts were controlled, and I lived by one creed—no second chances.
Except serving my country as an EOD in the Marines had a shelf life. Promoted off the front lines, I didn’t want to ride out my career behind a desk. A civilian job with the best security firm in the business seemed like a better solution…until a frightened client with haunted eyes lied to me about everything.
Now she was going to find out how heartless a bodyguard could be.

Sybil Bartel grew up in Northern California with her head in a book and her feet in the sand. She dreamt of becoming a painter but the heady scent of libraries with their shelves full of books drew her into the world of storytelling. She loves the New Adult genre, but any story about a love so desperately wrong and impossibly beautiful makes her swoon.
Sybil now resides in Southern Florida and while she doesn’t get to read as much as she likes, she still buries her toes in the sand. If she isn’t writing or fighting to contain the banana plantation in her backyard, you can find her spending time with her handsomely tattooed husband, her brilliantly practical son and a mischievous miniature boxer...
But Seriously?
Here are ten things you probably really want to know about Sybil.
She grew up a faculty brat. She can swear like a sailor. She loves men in uniform. She hates being told what to do. She can do your taxes (but don’t ask). The Bird Market in Hong Kong freaks her out. Her favorite word is desperate…or dirty, or both—she can’t decide. She has a thing for muscle cars. But never rely on her for driving directions, ever. And she has a new book boyfriend every week—don’t tell her husband.

Book Cover Reveal for See Me After Class by Meghan Quinn (GIVEAWAY).....

It's a combustible tug of war between a woman starting a new phase in her life as a teacher and her friend's sexy but annoying brother in this romance full of witty banter and steamy interactions.  Keep reading to get a tempting glimpse of See Me After Class by Meghan Quinn, then start counting down the days until this book hits shelves on November 12th.  Visit the link below directing you to Ms. Quinn’s Facebook page for the chance to win a $50 Amazon GC too!

"Did you have relations with my brother..."
Good question.
I’d like to preface this by saying it was never my intention to ever get involved in a workplace romance, let alone get involved with the most surly, agitating, and pompous man I’ve ever met who just so happens to be my new friend’s brother.
My intentions were to show students how English and reading books could actually be fun and make a new life for myself in the suburbs of Chicago.
But so far, I’ve managed to be called into the principal’s office.
Coerced into participating in the teacher's badminton league.
And instigated into passionate fights with Arlo Turner over education and decorum while losing my underwear at the same time.
Known as Mr. Turns Me On, he’s the reason I might get fired from my first ever teaching job.

USA Today Bestselling Author, wife, adoptive mother, and peanut butter lover. Author of romantic comedies and contemporary romance, Meghan Quinn brings readers the perfect combination of heart, humor, and heat in every book.

Book Cover Reveal for The Pass by Rebecca Jenshak.....

A man who settled for being "just friends" decides that he wants a second chance at HEA in this fun and flirty friends to lovers romance.  Keep reading to get a tempting glimpse of The Pass by Rebecca Jenshak, then start counting down the days until this second installment in the Smart Jocks series hits shelves on December 8th!

I've been in love with her for two years.
The first time around I screwed things up. I hesitated and the moment was gone.
I passed when I shouldn't have.
Not a total loss. I gained a best friend instead of whatever we might have been.
Sydney is hands down the best thing that's ever happened to me, and I'll do anything to keep her in my life. Even bury my feelings deep inside.
But one hot summer together at the lake filled with lots of teeny-tiny bikinis and I'm ready to risk it all for a second chance.
It's time to take my shot.

Rebecca Jenshak is a self-proclaimed margarita addict, college basketball fanatic, and Hallmark channel devotee. A Midwest native transplanted to the desert, she likes being outdoors (drinking on patios) and singing (in the shower) when she isn't writing books about hot guys and the girls who love them.

Book Tour for Code Name: Rook by Sawyer Bennett (REVIEW)......

A man keeping the truth about his job a secret finds the truth coming out in a dramatic way in this sensual and suspenseful romance.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Code Name: Rook by Sawyer Bennett, along with my impressions of it, then add this sixth installment in the Jameson Force Security series to your bookshelf!

Being a highly skilled operative for a company like Jameson Force Security is exhilarating and important work...until it comes time to date. I like to keep my profession under wraps for a number of reasons. Some of what we do is top secret, most of what we do is dangerous, and more than one woman has tried to latch onto me because she was more enamored with what I do than who Cage Murdock really is. And since I’m more of a ‘here for the night’ than a ‘here for forever’ kind of guy, what’s the harm in a little white lie about my job?
My harmless deceit has never failed me. Until now. Because I met the most amazing woman and did the unthinkable. I married her. And now my beautiful, unsuspecting, probably-going-to- leave-my-sorry-behind-when-she-finds-out-the-truth wife doesn’t know that I’m not a used car salesman like I told her when we met.
As it typically does with lies, the truth is about to come out in a big way when Jaime unwittingly gets herself mixed up with some unsavory characters and I, along with the team at Jameson, have to intervene. Now I need to save my girl and hope I can save my marriage too. Let’s just say I have some serious explaining to do.

The Jameson Force Security series has been one thrill ride after another with this latest release another satisfying addition to the series.  With a storyline that's fairly straightforward it still manages to pull at the heartstrings as a man who doesn't do commitment desperately tries to keep his marriage intact while figuring out a way to reveal the truth about his job.  To the world Cage Murdock's a used car salesman, but in actuality he's a former Navy SEAL still saving people from dangerous situations.  His wife is Jaime Dolan, a woman that he saw as a just one night kind of gal, but one date led to another that led to a quickie wedding that both of them are very happy with.  The only trouble is...Cage's lie that's hanging over them like a thundercloud.  He still hasn't told Jaime the truth, but his job definitely comes in handy when she's kidnapped by people associated with her slightly shady brother.

Cage is a wonderful and sturdy hero, dependable to a fault and supportive of his friends. He's someone you can count on, someone always there in the background who deserved to finally take center stage.  The first half of this book went over events in the previous book, events seen from Cage's perspective which enhanced the previous installment. The second half is about Cage being out in the field while doing what he can to save his marriage...a plan that has him continuing to be the good guy he's always been.  There was no grand gesture or angst-filled apology from this guy that's for sure...just a slow and steady journey to forgiveness!  He's lucky that Jaime is his wife as she's a perfect match to him.  Strong, likable, and someone readers can see themselves hanging out with is how I'd describe her.  She's kind hearted, down to earth, with scars from lies told to her in the past.  She couldn't help falling for Cage though in a connection that sizzled from the start.  Once her life gets put in danger the suspense is amped up too in a journey full of twists and turns that gives them time to work through the big secret that's been hanging over them.

From the first page to the last this was a satisfying story with a good romance and exhilarating action...hallmarks of Ms. Bennett's writings.  I was glued to the story, frantically turning the pages to reach the HEA. It was a quick read, not too overly emotionally, but well-crafted to make me care about this couple.  Along the way we got to see past characters as well as tempting moments from others who are now coming out of the shadows and that have me greatly anticipating what comes next.

My rating for this is a B+

Confessions of a Halloween-aholic...
It started with a simple carved pumpkin and a wobbly stroller along crowded and sometimes scary sidewalks when too young to make that dash to the doorway.
I LOVE Halloween! It’s been my favorite holiday since spreading that treasure trove of candy across the rug in search of that ONE piece we could have after trudging the usually rainy evening streets of our neighborhood in homemade costumes. The scent of crisp autumn air, the crunch of leaves underfoot, the ding-dong of anticipation, the rustling of that caloric bounty hitting the bottom of the pillowcase – delightful!
In later years, (when told we were “too old” to participate) the door bell ringing, the cries of “Trick-or-Treat!” and greedy bags thrust out in front of ghoulish or cartoonish faces brought back that rush of excitement. Then, when I became a home dweller with my own front porch, everything changed. I became a...Halloween-aholic.
The symptoms weren’t easy to spot at first. Just a string of pumpkin lights along a railing and a ceramic Jack-o-lantern’s flashing light for year one. In year two (thanks to Son working at a Halloween store with an employee discount!) came the first three buildings of Halloween Town (I should have known better after my addiction to my Christmas Village!) and a huge gauze-trailing Pumpkin Head stretching across the ceiling. The third and fourth year, my addiction ran wild.
Suddenly every available space in our street-facing dining room was covered with the macabre! Even huge faux spiders (my all-consuming phobia!) climbed the porch rails and window sills while eerie wails and moans from my now massive village filled the air! Every available space screamed of All Hollow’s Eve, from my workplace to the pets, and even my nails! I was out of control!
When did I start storing more orange tubs than red and green in the basement?
This year should be epic! When prices dropped at my son's place of employment, three carts full of horrific delights followed me home but never got displayed because – sigh, Michigan. Cold, bitter wind and rain ruined 2019. So, 2020, with or without Trick-or- Treaters, will begin with a groan and end in a howl from our front lawn graveyard, complete with tombstones, gates, and fog. It’s going to be Spooktacular!
I’d better get more orange tubs!

He’s the Promised One
A Mobster’s attack dog turned legitimate business powerhouse, Max Savoie is the reluctant leader of New Orleans’ shapeshifter clan. They’ve kept to anonymous shadows, working and living unnoticed by the human world until their new Shifter King’s past draws dangerous outsiders who threaten all.
She’s the Protector
A fiercely determined NOPD detective, Charlotte Caissie has sworn to defend her beloved city and her unborn child from both criminals and otherworldly factions at war. While standing boldly at the side of her mate/husband, secrets from the past return to shake the foundation of her beliefs.
They Have a Problem
Walking a marital tightrope between opposite worlds, Max and Cee Cee’s paths place truth and trust at odds when outside threats force enemies to become allies. The time to take a stand for their family and their future is at hand. Time to rise together for the survival of all they love!

Max hadn’t visited that dark portion of his past for a very long time. Why now? Because of the life his mate carried? Or were the dangerous shadows of unfinished business reaching out from a swampy grave, a reminder of things he’d rather forget?
A rocking chair’s familiar creak. He tensed and twisted anxiously in the throes of his dream. Icy fingers of caution and loss clutched his chest as eyes darted behind closed lids. Unable to deny his desire to look again upon the worn elegance of his mother’s features, he faced his dread the way he’d addressed his life, with a cautious, reluctant need to know the truth...of who and what he was.
Shadows, like those long-ago secrets, hung thick, revealing little of the dark head bent over the child Marie Savoie held in arms both protective and comforting. Max wished she’d look up to feed time-starved memories, craving the gentle curve of her smile and loving warmth in her gaze. He settled for the steadying croon of a voice from the past.
“What is it, Max? Another bad dream? They can’t harm you."
As much as he loved her, then and now, he’d never quite believed that assurance. Bad things existed beyond the rusty gate imprisoning his youthful curiosity within their overgrown yard for the first five years of his life. He knew because he was one of them, a child of the unnatural world. All he’d wanted was to find his place within it. But his mother had hidden that knowledge from him, just as she’d kept the outside away for as long as she could.
“Mama, what’s wrong with me?” that small voice sobbed.
The rocker continued to complain as she stroked the child’s black hair. Her tender gesture failed to calm either boy or the man he’d become.
“Nothing’s wrong with you, Max. You’re perfect. They just don’t understand, so they fear you. That’s why you must be careful to never let them see the truth."
“What truth?” he’d pleaded. “Mama, tell me!"
Low and soft, Max repeated from where he watched, decades away, “Mama, tell me.” She brushed a kiss across the top of the child’s flushed brow then slowly straightened, turning toward Max Savoie, a surreal voyeur from the future she’d never see. Her gaze swam with tears like liquid silver before flaring bright, then hot.
Then red.
“Max,” she crooned, “you’re just like me.”

Book Tour for A Very Bossy Christmas by Kayley Loring (REVIEW)......

With the holidays fast approaching, readers will find this fun and flirty romance the perfect holiday gift as a boss has his assistant play his fake girlfriend with things quickly turning oh so real.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of A Very Bossy Christmas by Kayley Loring, along with my impressions of it, then add this festive romance to your bookshelf!

What’s the actual last thing you’d ever want your executive assistant to see you doing the morning after you had hot, drunk, angry sex with her in a terrible hotel room? Dancing around your terrible hotel room to “Come and Get Your Love” like Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy—naked? Yeah. Me too.
And yet, here we are.
This isn’t even the most unprofessional thing that’s happened between us in the past couple of weeks.
The first was when I agreed to let her have Christmas Day off, but only if she goes with me to three family gatherings as my fake girlfriend.
The second was when she caught me belting out a Christmas song on stage in the awful hotel bar.
The third was the hot, drunk, angry sex that followed, but I do not regret it.
And she hasn’t even found out the real reason I need her by my side this holiday season.
I need to pull it together before I do the dumbest, most unprofessional thing of all—fall head over heels in love with the only assistant who’s lasted more than a month at the job and claims to hate me and my moods more than she hates eggnog.
And I’ve seen how much she hates eggnog.

The last few books I've read from this author have been winners with entertaining couples and witty banter...add in a holiday theme and I knew I had to read this book! What I got was a quickly-paced read that charmed me through playful interludes and sweet and sensual encounters between the two lead characters as well as two thoroughly entertaining families who unwittingly played matchmaker.  It's a well-crafted rom-com that warmed my heart while putting a smile on my face.

Declan Cannavale is a successful real estate attorney, one who lives to work.  That's normally a good thing as it's made him a rich man but it's causing some problems when it comes to planning for the holidays courtesy of his loud and strong-willed Irish-Italian family.  When they expect him home for the holidays he's at first able to use work as an excuse, but the moment he mentions a girlfriend is the moment he's forced into getting a fake girlfriend.  And who better than the outspoken young woman keeping his life in order.  Though their connection starts off with a contract things soon turn very un-businesslike in a crackling relationship teeming with sexual tension and humor.  Through it all I was utterly charmed by Declan, though he frustrated me a time or two, it was nothing that was meant to be hurtful.  He's a sexy man who knows what he wants, but is out of his element when it comes to women.  He's clearly thrown off his game because of Maddie and it was entertaining watching the verbal foreplay going on between them that ultimately pointed to more brewing between them.  His interactions with his family were endearing to see too and the large cast of secondary characters made me smile with their machinations.

Maddie Cooper's just what Declan needs in his life as she's the best executive assistant he's ever seen.  She's a take no prisoners woman who gives as good as she gets.  She doesn't put up with any of Declan's crap and doesn't hesitate to tell it like it is which makes her incredibly attractive to him in early hints he gives about his feelings for her. She's close to her family too which is why it's so vital for her to go home for the holidays.  But with a workaholic boss that's going to be difficult. When he makes her an offer she can't refuse though, the fake relationship he proposes becomes all too real. Maddie's a wonderful heroine, someone I can totally see as a friend.  She's sassy with a no-nonsense attitude that had me cheering her on in her back and forth banter with Declan.  Her interactions with her family were charming and funny too and including them in the story enhanced the holiday feeling.

On a whole this story made the holiday better for me.  Amidst all the chaos and uncertainty of the country right now, this book made me laugh while it warmed my heart.  The banter was crackling with tons of flirtatiousness that had me hoping they'd soon give in to each other. Add in their zany and outspoken families and I found even more to recommend this fun, flirty, and festive read!

My rating for this is an A.

*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Before writing steamy romantic comedy novels, Kayley Loring got a BFA in creative writing from a Canadian university and had a fifteen-year career as a screenwriter in Los Angeles (under a different name). She mostly wrote PG-13 family comedies that studios would pay her lots of money for and then never make into movies. In 2017 she decided to move to the Pacific Northwest and write about all the fun stuff that she wasn't allowed to write about in those PG-13 scripts. Now she’s breathing cleaner air and writing dirtier words. It’s an adjustment she’s happily getting used to.

Book Release Blitz for Reforming Kent by Siobhan Davis (Review & GIVEAWAY)......

It's an emotionally intense tale of opposites attracting as a rich boy, with shadows looming large from his past, shadows that seek to mar his future with a strong-willed bartender who longs to slay his dragons for him.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Reforming Kent by Siobhan Davis, along with my impressions of it.  In honor of this tenth installment in The Kennedy Boys series make sure to visit the link below for the chance to win a $10 Amazon GC too!

Rogue. Troublemaker. Bad Boy. Delinquent.
Everyone thinks they know who I am, but they know nothing.
And that's how I prefer it.
Keeping my demons under lock and key is my only survival tactic.
Until a gorgeous feisty bartender enters my life, turning it upside down. Presley captivates me in a way no woman ever has, and I can’t get her out of my mind.
She’s determined to resist me, but I’m equally stubborn and more than up for the challenge. Winning her trust, and her heart, becomes everything because she shows me a future worth fighting for.
But the consequences of my tortured past are far-reaching, and if I don’t let her go, I'll only drag Presley down this dark hole with me.
Since I aged out of the foster system, I’ve worked hard for my dream future, and it’s so close. Too close to let some arrogant rich playboy distract me.
I’ve heard all about Kent Kennedy, and with my history of troubled bad boys, I need his attention like a hole in the head.
Except he’s nothing I expected and everything I never dared to dream of. As I slowly uncover the truth, I discover a broken man with a big heart who desperately needs someone to see him.
I want to be that person, but his demons loom large, and I don’t know if I’m strong enough to do this again. When the past rears its ugly head, shattering everything, will there be anything left of my heart to protect?

Well readers, it all comes down to this!  The rollercoaster lives of The Kennedy Boys series comes to an end with this tenth installment that packs yet another emotional wallop as the youngest of the triplets finally gets the attention he deserves in this story of opposites attracting.  Add in dealing with a past riddled with pain and you end up with a hero who's been torturing himself through nine previous books, one who finally finds some healing and a richly rewarding HEA by the turn of the final page.

Kent Kennedy's always been seen as the black sheep of the family.  He's been labeled as reckless, self-destructive, quick to anger, and even quicker to drink and sleep away his pain through numerous one-night stands.  While starting college seems like a good time to start over, it's his meeting sexy and sassy bartender Presley that gives him an even bigger reason to change how he's been going through life.  From the moment readers first met Kent they saw someone very rough around the edges, someone with constant anger just bubbling beneath the surface.  He's brash, loud mouthed, and makes no apologies for how he lives his life.  The Kent seen here is ready to change, wanting to change as his attraction to Presley becomes more vital to him than breathing, and it has him wanting to become a better man for her.  She doesn't make it easy for him though as he undertakes a charming and heartwarming journey to win her over.  Through sweet words and endearing gifts he woos Presley one day at a time while revealing a softer side to his personality.  Along the way his past comes to the forefront in reveals that broke my heart and had me wanting to hug him.  His truths are painful, and explain a lot of why he's been the kind of person he's been, but Ms. Davis dealt with the pain in an honest and respectful way that many will be able to relate to.  His time with Presley isn't only romantic but it's healing too and as he falls harder for her he discovers he's also worthy of love in a powerful connection that felt like a weight finally being lifted off the battered and bruised Kent.

Presley is a wonderful heroine, a perfect match to Kent as she's strong-willed with a big and kind heart more than capable of helping him heal.  For most of her life she's only been able to count on herself, dealing with her own traumatic past with only a small group of friends she can call on.  Her life hasn't been all sunshine and flowers, but it's made her who she is today...just the woman Kent needs.  Theirs is a crackling connection from the moment they meet.  In a journey of hard truths and unexpected twists and turns comes a real romance full of heart and soul.  Through every tear, through every heartache, Presley loves with her whole heart and it's her lightness that shows Kent a way out of his darkness in an unforgettable romance.

Ms. Davis has crafted a near-flawless series of books featuring the Kennedy family with one delicious sibling after another taking center stage.  The books have been an emotional smorgasbord, dealing with heavy topics without sugar coating them, and each installment has left an indelible mark.  This series-ender is the perfect conclusion as it highlights the healing power of love and acceptance between two people held captive by their pasts.  Family too plays a big role and the family interactions seen here warmed my heart through their imperfect yet realistic interactions.  Readers looking for an immensely satisfying romance, a romance worth every painful emotion, will want to add The Kennedy Boys series to their bookshelf and discover each unforgettable character on their own from the very beginning!

My rating for this is an A.
