Book Spotlight on The Infamous Heir by Elizabeth Michels (GIVEAWAY)

Fans of the historical genre will find much to like in this March 1st release of a twist of fate leading to a second son's unexpected obligations and the love of a woman he's wanted for a long time but who's his complete opposite.  Keep reading to get a tempting glimpse of The Infamous Heir by Elizabeth Michels, the first installment in the Spare Heirs series, along with learning about romantic comedies from Ms. Michels herself.  In honor of this book make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a bundle of the books in the Tricks of the Ton series too!

I admit it, I have a weakness.  And my weakness is romantic comedies.  There have been so many Saturday afternoons I’ve lost by walking through the living room when one of my favorites is playing on TV.  Laundry and errands?  What laundry and errands?  I have to spend the next few hours curled up on the sofa, watching Dirty Dancing for the 473rd time.
It’s this same magnetic pull toward a love story that inspired me to read romance novels, and to write them.  So I thought I would share with you my favorite romantic comedy, and the romance novel it reminds me of.

You’ve Got Mail and Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas

In You’ve Got Mail, two rival book store owners fall in love over the internet.  Do you enjoy a love story that grows out of letters written between the hero and heroine while their real life identities remain unknown? Then you’ll fall for Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas just like I did.  This is my favorite book.  You have to read it.  He is a war hero, wounded on the battlefield.  She is friends with his betrothed and writes to him under her friend’s identity.  Only they fall in love through their letters to each other.  And then he comes home from war.  He’s surprised to find that his fiancĂ©e isn’t like the girl in the letters at all—because it isn’t her, it’s her friend.  Seriously, promise me you’ll read this book.  No joking: I swooned.
Do you have a favorite romantic comedy? Does the plot remind you of a book you enjoyed?

The Spare Heirs Society Cordially Invites You to Meet Ethan Moore: The Scoundrel
Lady Roselyn Grey’s debut has finally arrived, and of course, she has every flounce and flutter planned. She’ll wear the perfect gowns and marry the perfect gentleman…that is, if the formerly disinherited brother of the man she intends to marry doesn’t ruin everything first.
Ethan Moore is a prize-fighting second son and proud founding member of the Spare Heirs Society—and that’s all he ever should have been. But, in an instant, his brother’s noble title is his, the eyes of the ton are upon him, and the lady he’s loved for years would rather meet him in the boxing ring than the ballroom.
He’s faced worse. With the help of his Spare Heirs brotherhood, Ethan’s certain he can get to the bottom of his brother’s unexpected demise and win the impossible lady who has haunted his dreams for as long as he can remember…

EXCERPT:

"You can’t spare a footman to haul my trunks and valise inside?” Roselyn asked.
Mr. Ethan Moore didn’t seem to mind the rain that splashed down on them in the drive. “I’m afraid not."
“Not a single servant to assist your guests as they arrive? And I thought Ormesby Place to be a welcoming, organized home. The devil it is.” She muttered the last bit under her breath, sure he hadn’t heard her.
“What was that, my lady?” he asked, leaning in.
“Oh, nothing.” How had he heard her comment? She always tried to be so careful of such things. It was as if the ugly habits she’d worked so diligently to eliminate from her life were rising to the surface against her will. And she blamed Mr. Ethan Moore for every bit of it.
“If your precious possessions mean so much to you, princess, I will personally assist you with your things."
Finally he was going to see reason. She smiled in relief. “Well, that was all I required. Thank you."
He bent and lifted the small valise from the top of the pile of trunks, slinging it over his shoulder with a grin. “That trunk looks light enough. You should be able to manage it." With those careless words, he turned and began to stroll away toward the door.
Was he whistling? What an infuriating man!
Roselyn stood rooted to the ground in shock for a moment, watching him walk away through the rain. Then, something snapped within her. The gently bred lady she tried to portray was stripped away, leaving behind the young, reckless girl she thought she’d outgrown years ago. He couldn’t walk away from her in such a manner.
She took two steps to the edge of a flower bed, scooped up a fistful of fresh soil within her white-gloved hand and flung it as hard as she could at Mr. Moore’s back. Watching as it splattered across his upper arm, slinging droplets onto his cheek, she felt a moment of visceral triumph. Then she gaped at him.
What had she done? She hadn’t even considered doing anything so childish in years— not since that summer when she’d set a trap to trip him as he crossed one of the fields, then laughed as he tugged her down into the dirt with him. The memory of her laughter faded as reality set in. Her plans! What had she been thinking? But, of course, she hadn’t been thinking.
He turned, an affronted look crossing his face as he stared at her.
In that moment, in spite of their current ages, he was the boy next door again, chasing Katie and her through the woods as they cackled with glee. She bit her lip to keep from laughing.
He glanced down at his arm in disbelief, dropped her valise to the ground, and began prowling toward her. Oh. Perhaps this had been a mistake. A challenging gleam filled his eyes, turning them as dark as black water in a cold lake.
Oh dear. She blinked once, twice, then turned and ran.
She’d made it to the corner of the house where the edge of the lush gardens overlooked the moors when she felt a large hand wrap around her upper arm, dragging her to a halt. She could feel the heat of him behind her. She had never been so close to a man before. Her heart hammered within her body. Even Lord Ayton had never dared touch her like this. She’d never felt a gentleman’s body pressed into hers as Mr. Moore’s was now.
“Leaving so soon?” he murmured, his lips almost grazing the rim of her ear.

Having survived her terrible captivity by a sadistic doctor deep within an ancient mine, Cora returns home ready to move on with her life, but when Mason’s mysterious condition quickly deteriorates, Cora must embark on a quest for the one thing that could save his life.
When she is told Knox will accompany her, she fears she will not return alive. If Knox cannot control her, he might prefer her dead. Trusting him is a gamble she may never win…unless she can find other ways to tame the wild vampire.

EXCERPT:

She debated what to do. Knox was determined to have his way. She was determined not to let him. Dressing up for him would not help her cause, but she couldn’t very well wander the ship in sweat pants the whole trip…could she? She would definitely attract undue attention, especially if people saw such an obvious commoner exit The Grand Wescott Stateroom. Wealthy people were unbelievably nosy when it came to things like that. People would gossip, start to ask questions she didn’t really feel like answering.
Decided, she shrugged out of her baggy clothes and slipped the first dress over her head. If she thought it would be more modest she was only a little right. The front slashed across her collarbone, fully covering her neck and chest and then draped over her shoulders like a long scarf that trailed behind her, but the deep V in the back stopped just above where her spine curved toward her backside. Moreover, the long slit in the front of the skirt flared as she walked, showing a good deal of leg. She checked herself in the mirror, turning, surprised by how elegant the gown made her look. What would Knox say? She got the impression he expected to hate it. Well, he was about to be surprised.
Wait, why did she care?
Steeling herself, she stepped out onto the balcony.
Knox was casually touching the collar of another sports coat, but when he glanced up, he did a double take. She swallowed, her heart giving an unwanted kick. Goddess of light and dark! Did she actually want him to like how she looked?
Heat threaded his gaze, and even though he hadn’t yet seen the back, she could almost feel his touch along her spine. His grin was devilish.
She shivered, and broke eye contact. If this was how her body reacted to a simple hungry gaze, how was she going to hold out for the entire trip?

Book Spotlight for Sweet Spot by Lucy Felthouse

With the popularity of the m/m genre, it's about time that the ladies get a bit of the spotlight too, and courtesy of Ms. Felthouse they finally are!  Keep reading to get a tantalizing taste of the lesbian-fueled Sweet Spot by Lucy Felthouse and its tale of romance in the tennis world and then add this re-release to your bookshelf....

Virginia Miller is an up-and-coming tennis star. She’s gone from a ratty tennis court in a park in south London, England, to the world’s top training facility—Los Carlos Tennis Academy in California. In awe of the talent around her, Virginia is all the more determined to make the most of the opportunity and show that she’s worthy of her place there. Her mentor, Nadia Gorlando, has every faith in her.
But Virginia finds herself distracted—Nadia, as well as being a top-notch tennis player, is seriously sexy, and Virginia’s mind keeps wandering where it shouldn’t. Will her crush get in the way of her career, or can she find a way to push the other woman out of her mind before it’s too late?

EXCERPT:

Nadia Gorlando and I had just gotten off the exercise bikes in the gym when one of the academy’s coaches, Peter Ross, headed over to us, all smiles.
“Hey, Nadia,” he said, his all-American grin widening and his blond hair flopping down over his forehead, “I need a huge favor."
I flicked my gaze to Nadia. She raised one of her perfectly shaped eyebrows and waited for him to continue. He did.
“I totally lost track of time just now and I have an appointment with Travis Connolly. Would you mind wiping down my machine for me? Or maybe stick a note on it saying it’s out of order? I don’t want to leave it all sweaty for someone else. You’ll be doing me a real solid. I’ll owe you."
My jaw almost hit the floor.
Now Nadia rolled her eyes, looked over at the offending machine, then back at Peter. “Sure, I understand,” she said, as cool as ice. “The world’s number one can’t wait. Go right ahead—I’ll fix it for you."
He babbled a load of thanks, then jogged out of the gym.
I gaped at her. “You’re not going to do it, are you?"
Nadia chuckled. “Of course not. He may be coaching Travis Connolly and Rufus Lampani for the US Open, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to clean up his mess.” She pointed with her chin over to the machine Peter had just vacated. “Come on, V, I’ll show you how I’m going to deal with this."
I followed her, grinning. Her tone told me that it was going to be something fun. Well, for us, anyway. Probably not for Peter.
Sure enough, when she returned from the room off the side of the gym, she had a pad of paper and a pen in her hands. Deliberately shielding the pad from my view, she wrote something down, then pulled off the top sheet. Folding it, she then propped it on the sweat-slicked seat so the writing was on view to anyone who happened past.
When I’d read and absorbed the words, I turned to Nadia, impressed. Her smile lit up her face, showing dimples in each cheek, and her brown eyes gleamed with amusement.
It was in that moment that I decided I had the serious hots for Nadia Gorlando.
The sign read,
PLEASE EXCUSE THE STATE OF THIS MACHINE. PETER ROSS, TENNIS COACH SUPREMO, “LOST TRACK OF TIME”.

Book Tour for Healing Love by Abby Niles (Review & GIVEAWAY)

As a reader who loves bad boys with a heart of gold I'm excited to introduce you to this fourth installment in the Love to the Extreme series and its multi-faceted hero and strong-willed heroine running from her past.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Healing Love by Abby Niles, along with my impressions of it, and discover even more about this book by visiting the other sites hosting this tour.  In honor of this book make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win e-copies of the first three installments in this series too!

Doctor Ella Watts wants her old life back. Desperately. But the past has returned for its rematch, and going back home—even telling anyone her real name—isn’t an option until she’s confident in her MMA abilities. Personal trainer Lance Black is the man to help her reach her goals. Not only is he toned, muscular, and gorgeous, he’s patient, a great teacher, and willing to treat her like a worthy opponent. Except his size makes her freeze whenever he gets too close. If Ella can’t learn how to overcome her fear of being attacked, she’ll never be able to move on with her life.
Underground fighter Lance Black knows there’s more to the mysterious blonde ninja than a beautiful woman determined to improve her fighting skills. She can best anyone close to her size – man or woman – but insists on working out with him, even though he’s got a good 70 pounds and several inches on her. Despite her reticence, he’s determined to get her to open up so he can help her get over her mental block. And if that means he can get to know her outside the gym, all the better.

EXCERPT:

Lance came at her in a burst of energy, his arms slapping down to meet the punches she frantically threw. She had no game plan, just swung. A light pop bopped her on the side of the head and paralyzed her into place. He instantly backed off. The second there was space between them, her ability to breathe returned and she ripped off the gloves, throwing them down. “Damn it."
Without a word, she climbed between the second and third rope, hopped to the floor, and slumped on a nearby bench, hanging her head. Why couldn’t she get past this mind block?
“Hey,” Lance said in a soothing tone that only annoyed her as he sat down beside her, but when he pressed his thigh against hers, she found the gesture oddly comforting. She wanted to lean into him, take his support, but she forced herself to stay where she was.
“I just need a few minutes alone."
He laced his fingers together and let them hang between his knees. “A few months ago, I had a huge fight slotted. Any spare moment I had, I was training my fucking ass off.” He inhaled deep. “The pressure of it got the best of me and I just froze. Biggest night of my fighting career over by knockout in less than a minute.” He turned a sympathetic smile on her. “Sometimes our mind just gets the best of us. I don’t know what’s cluttering yours, but you’re not alone. It happens to everyone."
His confession, that he would open up to her like that, meant more to her than he would ever know. Made her feel less alone. And she hadn’t felt like that in a long time.
“Thank you,” she whispered and leaned toward him. A simple kiss on his cheek to show her appreciation was her intent. But the moment her lips touched the stubbled skin, a floodgate of need crashed open. Instantly, her nipples puckered and the lower part of her body tingled in a very thrilling way. She wanted nothing more than for him to turn his head so she could feel the softness of his lips next. Stunned, she pulled back.
Their gazes locked, and the air seemed to still between them. His gray eyes held her captive. She couldn’t look away. She couldn’t break this magnetic hold Lance had had on her since that moment in the alley. And damn it—she didn’t want to. It’d been a long time—too long—since she’d been attracted to a man like him. Maybe she never had been. Lance was different.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

With its backdrop of MMA fighting, Healing Love ends up being an intense read from start to finish with its two lead characters burdened by pride and haunted by their pasts.  Though they try to keep away from each other over fears of the other getting hurt it's a battle that quickly gives way to passion as their connection is obvious from their very first meeting.  With sexual tension that's off-the-charts their romance is at once combustible with surprising sweetness that comes from each trying to protect the other in a story that has both of them in danger in a storyline that's compelling and over far too soon.

Not having read the previous installments in the Love to the Extreme series I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but as a fan of MMA-themed stories I was immediately captivated by the premise and the larger than life couple fighting for their HEA.  With each turn of the page I became more fully immersed in their trying to find strength against the odds and hoping that they'd finally realize that accepting help isn't a weakness.  Ella seemed to be a woman in control at the start whose one moment of hesitation changed her life completely as her body and her trust was broken by her ex who vowed revenge once he got out of jail.  She was able to pick up the pieces but with his release fast approaching all her confidence is gone and she's on the run with fear shadowing her to a small town in Kansas where one man again changes her life completely.  Ella changed her name and set about trying to overcome her fear through fighting men much larger than her, but with the sexy temptation of Lance she quickly wanted to be a lover instead of a fighter.  Getting close to him though put her in danger from local gangsters who use her past against her to gain her medical help in their underground fighting which fans her fears with the bloodthirstiness she has to witness each night.  Not only are her fears growing but so is her heartbreak in seeing the man she's starting to love put his life in danger, growing more bruised and battered with each fight, and not being allowed to help which eventually leads to an ultimatum that's sad but empowering.  I liked Ella from the very start.  She's strong-willed and though she tries to keep herself separate she can't help being drawn to others and helping when the situation arises.  Because of what happened to her it's led to self-esteem issues where she doubts her ability to protect herself and be desirable as she's ignored that part of life.  Being with Lance gives her confidence in both areas and I enjoyed seeing her flourish in his presence. Being with him brought out a sex kitten side to her and gave her the mental fortitude she'd been lacking and that had her dealing with her past head-on and saving Lance despite his prideful decisions.

Lance was an interesting dichotomy as he was a bit rough around the edges but immensely sweet and caring.  He'd go out of his way to protect those he loves despite the danger to himself which had him selling his soul to the local gangsters to get money to save his daughter.  He's an honorable man though he's full of pride that puts his and Ella's HEA in doubt as the illegal fights he's participating in to pay off his debt put him one step closer to death.  He treats Ella as his equal but sensing her fear has his protective instincts kicking in and binding her to him even more tightly.  While I applaud his desire to clean up the messes he made on his own, it was frustrating that he didn't accept help when it was offered as he had so much to lose.  His romance with Ella was sweet and sensual with a connection that crackled.  His scenes with his daughter were cute and charming and endeared him to me, making him an admirable hero.

This was a compelling and fast-paced story from the first page to the last. Lance and Ella were likable and easy to relate to and, as the story was focused mainly on them, I felt as though we got to know them pretty well.  The small glimpses of secondary characters showed us a tight-knit family surrounding the world of MMA and bad guys making money off of a twisted version of it.  Each glimpse pulled me further into the story and has me excited for future installments.  The vivid depictions of the fight scenes were bloody, exhilarating, and a bit sad knowing the desperation of the fighters to win.  All in all this was an emotionally intense story with an engaging storyline and immensely satisfying conclusion that balanced romance and danger perfectly to pull me in and leave me cheering. This was my first taste of this series but won't be my last as the world Ms. Niles created is an exciting and romantic one!

My rating for this is an A-

EXCERPT:

Climbing off the bed, I inched towards the large vessel sitting on the floor, my curiosity getting the better of me. A silver liquid swirled inside—a beautiful, metallic silver that reminded me of the strangers eyes.
Standing at the edge of the big tub, I stared down into the swirling silver liquid. I wanted to dip my fingers in it and feel its texture against my skin and to see if it was hot or cold. My mother had joked with me when I was a child that my curiosity would get me into trouble one day.
The silver liquid started to move as I stared down at it debating with myself whether I should touch it. It rose up in a column, a head forming, shoulders, arms, a torso, all forming out of the swirling liquid, until the shape of a man stood in the tub.
I stumbled back, my legs hitting the bed, overbalancing me. I sat down heavily. Shock coursed through me. The shape started to change, clothes starting to emerge, skin forming until the man with silver eyes stood looking at me.
His dark hair fell over the smooth plane of his forehead, the sharp cut of his cheekbones and the strength of his jaw highlighted by the soft lighting in the room. For a human, he was incredibly good looking. But he wasn’t human and I’d do well to remember that.
“What are you?” I asked staring into his silver eyes.
