We might be at the end of summer but my oh my this was a steamy and sensual tale that made me blush and laugh. Between moments of sizzle Ms. Blakely provided some delightfully witty banter as well as engaging in a humorous, verbal, tug of war between the lead characters that kept me glued to the pages. Keeping me drawn to the story is the immensely likable trio trying to make their romance work. Theirs is a romance fueled by society's judgments and each character's self-doubts and I quickly became invested in their journey.
Ivy Samuels is the heroine you find yourself rooting for as she's an endearing character who's had a rough time when it comes to romance. She's a caring person, sweet but riddled with self-doubts that pull at your heartstrings. The two male leads, Stefan and Hayes, are a drool-worthy addition to the story and their differences made for a delicious dichotomy. Hayes Armstrong is the latest addition to the Avengers hockey team, a determined young man with a fun and flirty side, along with a commanding and dirty nature behind the scenes. The moment their relationship changed is the moment complications arose but he wasn't going to let their relationship, that started out as fake, become anything but real in their slow-burn burgeoning connection. Stefan's the team captain and is an old friend of Hayes. He's playful with a carefree attitude he shows the world, but behind that facade is a man full of insecurities, just longing for real love. He knew he wanted Ivy from the very beginning and his suggestion for a threesome turns up the heat immediately in this well-paced erotically-charged romance. Stefan and Hayes are a decadently delicious duo who treat Ivy like a Queen, and in turn help build her self-confidence. The boys are sweet and sexy and I liked each of them with Ivy, though there were times that I felt sympathetic towards Stefan with the less time overall he had with Ivy. Meanwhile, there was an interesting cast of secondary characters, which was to be expected with this being part of a series. When it came to Ivy's ex, and one or two others, I found myself hoping to never see them again and cringed when they did come on the scene.
Though this is the second installment in the My Hockey Romance series it stands strongly on its own with a fun and flirty storyline of a romance that starts off as fake, but soon becomes all too real when a third person becomes involved. It's a romance that builds emotionally and physically as this trio heals each other's painful pasts and self-doubts while steaming up the pages. Overall this is a good read done well, though it’s been done before, and I look forward to where this series goes next!
