Hi! I’m Lisa Henry, author of Sweetwater! I’m touring the web talking about my inspiration, my writing process, and giving you a behind-the-scenes look at Sweetwater. And of course there’s a giveaway! You could win a title from my back catalogue, as well as a $20 Riptide gift voucher!

Wyoming Territory, 1870.
Elijah Carter is afflicted. Most of the townsfolk of South Pass City treat him as a simpleton because he’s deaf, but that’s not what shames him the most. Something in Elijah runs contrary to nature and to God. Something that Elijah desperately tries to keep hidden.
Harlan Crane, owner of the Empire saloon, knows Elijah for what he is—and for all the ungodly things he wants. And Crane isn’t the only one. Grady Mullins desires Elijah too, but unlike Crane, he refuses to push or mistreat the young man.
When violence shatters Elijah’s world, he is caught between two very different men and two devastating urges: revenge and despair. In a boomtown teetering on the edge of a bust, Elijah must face what it means to be a man in control of his own destiny, and choose a course that might end his life . . . or truly begin it for the very first time.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

There's surprising emotional depth in Ms. Henry's latest historical read as a young deaf man struggles to find himself in a town full of lawlessness and hopelessness.  In finding himself though he loses his innocence in a journey both heartbreaking and heartwarming.  With every step Ms. Henry immerses readers even further into Elijah's life and his dreams for something better which lead to some poor choices early on but ultimately lead him where he was meant to be.

Elijah is an endearing character who lost most of his hearing as a child and was taken in by a kindhearted doctor who treated him as a son with love and respect.  Elijah's always felt he was a disappointment though for his unnatural cravings and desire to head West to find something bigger and better.  This self-loathing leads him to the powerful Harlan Crane who doesn't hesitate in using Elijah's shame to feed his own dominant needs leaving Elijah even more lost and confused but addicted to the intense feelings their encounters engender.  Crane sees him as smart but manipulates him to satisfy his own needs and being Elijah's first makes for a very heady introduction to sex for the young man.  Leading to even more confusion is the sweet and caring criminal Grady, who wants to protect Elijah as he sees him as someone who matters.  Elijah doesn't believe in love though, the emotion's done nothing but destroy him when it's gone, so his encounters with Grady scare him just as much as they call to him.  He simply wants to matter, he wants to be seen as someone worthy and not the idiot that most people see him as.  His interactions with Grady are deep and engagingly intimate and didn't make me feel dirty as did the encounters between Crane and Elijah.  It's a difficult journey to HEA for Elijah as his past choices, as well as Grady's, come back to haunt them in a gut-wrenching but immensely satisfying conclusion.

The physical and emotional details of this story are vividly depicted to fully immerse me in the story from the very first page.  The sexual encounters ranged from sweet and sensual to gritty with bits of bdsm included which were nicely dispersed throughout the story to allow for character development.  We get to experience life mostly through Elijah's eyes which brought tears to my eyes as he struggled to find himself in a world keeping him buried.  Though there are two men vying for Elijah's attentions it's clear that Grady wants Elijah for love as opposed to Harlan who wants him as a possession and plaything.  Grady shows Elijah the bright and sunny side of intimacy whereas it's all darkness with Harlan.  The characters are all flawed in some way but utterly engaging and unforgettable.  Elijah is someone who didn't always make the right decision but the believable ones which left me rooting for him to find his HEA and highly recommending this compelling historical read.

My rating for this is an A.

*I bought this book with my own money for my personal bookshelf.

Lisa Henry lives in tropical North Queensland, Australia. She doesn’t know why, because she hates the heat, but suspects she’s too lazy to move. She spends half her time slaving away as a government minion, and the other half plotting her escape.
She attended university at sixteen, not because she was a child prodigy or anything, but because of a mix-up between international school systems early in life. She studied History and English, neither of them very thoroughly.
She shares her house with too many cats, a dog, a green tree frog that swims in the toilet, and as many possums as can break in every night. This is not how she imagined life as a grown-up.

Book Tour for One Night in San Francisco by Cass Peterson (Review & GIVEAWAY)

Those who like their romances short yet steamy will want to add One Night in San Francisco by Cass Peterson to their bookshelf.  Keep reading to get a tantalizing taste of this short story as well as learning about the spunky heroine from Ms. Peterson herself.  You'll also get my impressions of this book and then learn even more by visiting the other blogs hosting this tour.  Make sure to fill out the form for the chance to win a $10 ARe GC too!

Hello - my name’s Cass Peterson and I’m here to tell you something about the heroine of my brand new novella, One Night in San Francisco. Her name’s Nicky, and I’ll let her describe herself, as she prepares to hit the streets of San Francisco:
‘Well, you look fairly fuckable, I must say,’ I told myself. My stomach was flat and my breasts were firm and quite full for a small person. I was slimmer than I’d ever been - since Simon left my appetite hadn’t been great – my hair flowed out around my shoulders in a cloud of black curls and my cheeks were faintly flushed from the heat of the bathroom. I had to find Liam. I need him to see me properly; not messy after a night flight but naked and in his room, maybe with some champagne to share. He could trickle it over my tits and lick it off.
Nicky is fresh from a very unsatisfactory relationship with Simon, her previous selfish lover who turned out to prefer Nicky’s friend’s boyfriend. She’s on a stop off in San Fran on the way to visit her brother, and is in need of some serious satisfaction when she meets Liam on the plane.
Her confidence has been badly dented by Simon’s lack of interest but she immediately senses that Liam might be the one to put the spice back into her life, if only for a few short hours. He is sensual, gorgeous and attentive - how can she have lost track of him so quickly?
San Francisco begins to work its magic on Nicky as soon as she arrives, but can she find Liam again before their time runs out?

Nicky and Liam have only twenty four short hours to find out if their instantaneous attraction can develop into something more than an electric mile-high fumble. San Francisco has everything they need to put their previous disastrous relationships behind them but when they lose touch with each other almost immediately, fate seems to have other ideas. As the precious hours tick away, Liam moves heaven and earth to find the woman of his (filthiest) dreams before she leaves the city. Will he get to her in time?

EXCERPT:

I wondered what Jack was doing right now. The thought of my little brother was immediately cheering and I suddenly knew if he was here, he’d tell me to stop being such a misery and get on with my day. If it was meant to be that I’d find Liam, it’d happen somehow. I headed back towards the town again. It was time to start doing what I’d come here to do. And first, the cable cars.
Plunging into one of the steeper streets, I found one of the stopping places and with only a vague idea of where the cab was heading, jumped on board. There was no room to sit inside and anyway, it was good to be out in the sunshine. I felt my heart lighten as I stood on the footplate nearest the road, hanging on tightly to the rail and gasping as we breasted the hill. The views were spectacular – tiny streets branched off in all directions and every time there was a gap in the tall buildings, the deep blue of the sea was breath-taking.
Down we plunged again, and the driver, who seemed to have seen me coming and thought ‘sucker’, teased me as we plummeted towards the lower streets, pretending the creaky old wooden brakes were broken. I could tell this was an old joke – the more seasoned travellers on board were either grinning at the expression on my face or looking away, bored, but I realised I was at last letting myself have fun.
As we began the long climb to the top of the next rise, I heard shouting. Where was it coming from? The woman next to me nudged my arm. ‘Hey, honey – I think those guys are yelling at you.’
I peered into the road and saw a huge white cab was keeping pace with the cable car and two men were leaning out of its windows bellowing my name at the tops of their voices. Liam was waving frantically from the front seat, and in the back, a large, red faced man was doing the same.
‘Nicky! Get off the cable car! No, not right now ...’ Liam shouted as the driver slowed down for the steepest part of the hill and I tried to jump, over excited at the sight of him.
‘Jeez. Give me a minute to stop. Do you want me to lose my job, lady?’ The driver was less than impressed by my lunacy. We ground to a halt at the next official stop and the car did the same. Liam leapt out and flung his arms around me as the passengers cheered and cat called.
‘Nicky, thank God. I thought I’d lost you,’ Liam panted, hugging me so hard my ribs were in danger of cracking. I wrapped my arms around him and breathed in the wonderful scent of clean man with a touch of spicy aftershave thrown in.
‘Get a room, guys,’ yelled the driver, gesticulating at Clint to move on. The traffic was building up behind him, and horns were honking madly. Liam pulled me into the back seat of the car – the large man had got into the front and was gesturing rudely at the cable car driver.
‘Oh, they will, no worries on that score,’ he shouted, and Clint tooted his horn in celebration as we carried on up the hill.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Those looking for a story teeming with emotional foreplay will get just that with this short and intensely erotic tale.  The author pulls you in from the start vividly depicting the romanticism of San Francisco.  From there we're introduced to the main couple in a memorable way.  Liam and Nicky are both likable with charm and playfulness in abundance.  Their first meeting oozes sexual tension and their banter crackles with sensuality.  From this sexy start and with a few clever plot devices, as well as an endearing cast of secondary characters, there's much to like about this book but also a few flaws.

The story has the main characters separated for a large part of the time so when they finally connect it's all about sex with very little time for a deeper connection.  Both characters have issues about sex caused by past lovers which has left them doubting their abilities to please the other and looking for affirmations.  There's also issues with distance as they both live thousands of miles apart.  While it's clear courtesy of lots of steamy sexual interludes that they're a perfect match in bed, there's no time to deal with other issues which gives the story a HFN feel once the final page is turned.  On a whole, fans of erotica will enjoy this tantalizing tale but from start to finish this story is a sexy appetizer that's filling but leaves you wanting more.

My rating for this is a C+

*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Cover Reveal for Finished by Claire Kent

Fans of steamy yet complicated love triangles will want to circle October 14 on their calendar as the compelling Finished by Claire Kent will be released.  To get you excited here's a glimpse of the cover as well as a tantalizing taste of this scorching story.......

For the last year, Julia has lived with two men.
Drayton is hot and mysterious, and Mike takes care of her. Together, they have great sex and a mostly stable relationship—one Julia thought satisfied her. After all, how can she complain about having two sexy men at the same time?
Then everything starts to change. Drayton is keeping a dark secret that threatens more than their arrangement. It might actually threaten their lives. And Mike keeps becoming more alpha than she’s ever known him to be.
What once was fun and casual is now a tangle of conflicting desires. Drayton wants to keep his freedom. Julia wants a real commitment.
And Mike…well, Mike just wants her.

EXCERPT:

She was smiling at Drayton, thinking she needed to spend more time with him like this, since she’d been focused a lot more on Mike than on him lately, when he asked into the silence, “What are you thinking about?”
“You,” she admitted, putting down her glass and leaning back in her seat. “Us. Our relationship. Do you ever want any more than what we have?”
She had no idea why she’d voiced the question that had been lingering in her mind for a couple of months now. She knew it went beyond the bounds of their established relationship. But it was honest, and Drayton felt safe at the moment. She really wanted to know.
He blinked slowly. Glanced away for a moment. Then turned back to meet her gaze. “I’m happy with the way things are.”
She gave a little nod, feeling a drop of disappointment. “Oh. Okay.”
“Aren’t you happy?”
“I am. I mean, what girl wouldn’t want great sex with two amazing guys. But, still, sometimes I wonder…it just sometimes feels like something is missing.”
He shook his head and leaned toward her. “Nothing is missing. Everyone, in any kind of relationship, sometimes wonders if something is missing. That’s because life can never offer us everything. We choose what’s most important to us and accept that there are some things we’ll never have. If you have some romantic notion about getting everything without giving up anything, you’ll always be disappointed. Life isn’t about perfect happy endings. They just don’t exist. It’s about choosing. And then about giving up what we don’t choose.”
She thought about his words and then nodded slowly. “Yeah. I know you’re right about that. But don’t you ever want to be close to us—with more than just your body.”

Book Tour for Forever Starts Tonight by Roni Loren (Review & GIVEAWAY)

As a big fan of Roni Loren's I've enjoyed every book in her Loving On the Edge series.  With Melt Into You she introduced us to a memorable trio who went through the emotional wringer to craft their unique relationship, but with Forever Starts Tonight we get their definitive HEA.  Keep reading to get a glimpse of this book, along with my impressions of it, and learn even more by visiting the other blogs hosting this tour.  Make sure to fill out the form for the chance to win a $50 BN GC too!

The wait is over. They fell in love in Melt Into You, but that was only the beginning. Now New York Times bestselling author Roni Loren dials up the passion as three lovers reinvent the meaning of togetherness and find out if love is truly enough…
Two dominant men, one beautiful woman. Jace Austin knows he doesn’t have what you’d call a conventional relationship with Evan and Andre, but it works. Boy, does it work—until Evan starts acting strangely and Andre’s ex-fiancée pops back into his life, unbalancing a perfectly happy threesome. Jace is forced to face the unthinkable: that the two people he cares most about in this world are in danger of slipping away from him.
So Jace plans a surprise getaway to a secluded mountain cabin for the three of them. And he knows exactly what he needs to do: give both his lovers a fantasy week they’ll never forget. And the possibilities for pleasure are endless. But when they get snowed in and the heat between them reaches a fever pitch, secrets come out. And Evan has one that could change all their lives forever.

EXCERPT:

Evan pulled her robe around her, rubbing the chill from her arms, and walked to the kitchen, hoping to God that they had antacids tucked away somewhere. But when she stepped through the doorway, she froze in place at the sight before her. Jace was leaning back against the counter, shaggy blond hair in his eyes, pants around his ankles, and Andre was kneeling in front of him, sucking him off and stroking him with his fingers.
The sight took the wind right out of her, and she put her hand to the doorframe, steadying herself. Holy hell, were they a picture. She’d lived with these two for almost a year and the sight of them could still take her breath away. Jace with that long, lean swimmer’s body, his tattooed arms straining with the effort of staving off the release Andre was surely about to give him. And Andre with his dark hair, caramel-colored skin, and soulful eyes, somehow looking more alpha than most of the male population even when on his knees for another guy. They were beautiful together.
And maybe she should care that they were doing this without her, but somehow that jealousy never seemed to take hold of her. She knew how long it had taken these two to admit their feelings for each other, knew how deep their love and respect for each other ran. So beyond the mind-melting desire that always went through her when she saw these two get naked together, all she felt was happiness for them and a thrill that she got to be part of this. That they were hers.
Normally, she’d make her presence known because, without a doubt, they would draw her into the tableau. In thirty seconds, she’d be flat on her back on that island with both of them lavishing her with erotic attention. But she was still feeling off and didn’t think she could handle them at the moment. That did not mean, however, that she wasn’t going to take advantage of the moment and watch.
That chill she’d been fighting off on the walk to the kitchen had definitely disappeared, and her body was growing very aware, very quickly. She tried to ease back into the shadows of the living room so she wouldn’t inadvertently interrupt, but Andre’s eyes must’ve caught movement. His gaze swung her way and his eyebrow lifted—an invitation.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

After their hard-won journey to HEA there was always the sense that there was more to see with Jace, Evan, and Andre's relationship.  One always wonders if a triad relationship would really work and with this story readers see the reality.  Big life events are discussed, feelings of jealousy dealt with, and the rearranging of dreams to fit their new reality are all handled in a mature way that brings this trio even closer together.

Each member of this triad is strong-willed with personalities that are unique with each bringing something special to their relationship.  Jace is a caring but carefree man who enjoys dominating his mates.  He knows just how far to push to get to the truth and won't tolerate lies between them.  He's the one who notices when his mates are stressed and finds sexy ways to relax them.  Evan is  hard working out of a fear of being poor once again and is one lucky girl to be the center of both men's attentions.  Her fears of pregnancy, and the harsh realities of it, drive this story and bring out surprisingly sentimental sides to each of them.  Andre is supportive and soft-spoken and though he's a switch he never wants his sub side to be seen as a weakness.  He's a strong and steady presence and sweet with his caretaking nature and the perfect companion to the bold and larger than life Jace.

On a weekend away from all the fears piling up on them they discover more than they ever knew about each other.  Their pasts ultimately come back, not to haunt them, but to make their commitment even stronger.  Along with these emotional moments of enlightenment comes numerous steamy encounters of varying degrees of intensity and ranging from a ménage to m/m couplings.  These scenes are nicely balanced with the emotional moments to make this an engaging and compelling addition to the Loving On the Edge series.  Ms. Loren once again proves her talent and the delightful decadence this series offers and I highly recommend this series to fans of erotica.

My rating for this is an A.
