Book Blast for Toil & Trouble Holiday Horror Anthology (GIVEAWAY)…..

Just in time for the upcoming holiday comes this steamy, horror-fueled collection of tingling tales. Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Toil & Trouble featuring an eclectic group of authors, then start counting down the days until Halloween. To entice you even more, visit the other sites hosting this tour and enter the giveaway below for a chance to win a $10 bookstore gift card too!

The brew is hot and bubbling over with romance and terror in this twistedly beautiful anthology that welcomes the darkness of horror and the temptation of love's veiled promises. Six remarkable tales from six incredible authors fill this book of dark shadows and ancient whispers.
Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble - by Jennifer Patricia O'Keeffe: Enchanted pastries and spell-brewed coffee make Esmerelda's sugar-dusted counter the city's most coveted haunt—until a dangerously charming newcomer slips into her shop, immune to her magic and unraveling her carefully guarded world. As his witch-hunter heritage threatens to burn her legacy to ash, Esmerelda finds herself torn between the threat of revenge from the witch hunter's ancestors and the intoxicating truth of the connection that they share.
Silverwood - by Lynn Hubbard: A lonely rancher's daughter finds her isolated Wyoming homestead upended when an amber-eyed stranger ignites a mud-splattered passion that defies reason—until his supernatural secret and the vengeful ranch hands hunting her force her to choose between the man who saves her and the monster who might destroy her. Torn between fierce protectors and forbidden desire, she must trust the very darkness that could shatter her world to survive the wild frontier's deadliest threats.
Ivy, Lichens and Wallflowers - by James Ryan: Marketing executive Hilda finds solace from her stifling corporate life and overbearing past in the quiet companionship of Miriam, a mysterious 19th-century marble statue in a city micro-park, only to discover their connection transcends stone when Miriam begins answering her handwritten notes through cryptic poetry left in return. As their forbidden connection deepens into an intoxicating dream-bound romance, Hilda uncovers Miriam's supernatural secret: she's a cursed thaumaturge sustained by stolen life force, forcing Hilda to confront whether love can survive the devastating cost of keeping her alive.
A Mirror to Die For - by Cindy Lewis Smith: A desperate woman finds solace in an antique mirror that whisks her nightly to 1880s Arizona, where a charming outlaw named Johnny Ringo fulfills every fantasy—until her jealous fiancé shatters the glass and vanishes, leaving her trapped in an asylum screaming that he is the real monster, a man who shouldn't exist: Dr. John Henry Holliday, the gambler who killed Ringo a century ago. Now, with "MPR" carved into her cell walls and time itself unraveling, she'll stop at nothing to prove her sanity by proving time travel is real—even if it means unleashing the very darkness that destroyed her.
Flight 1031: Cosmic Turbulence - by Julian Christian: Diplomatic courier Sarah Martinez boards Flight 1031 expecting routine turbulence, not a Halloween dimensional rift that strands her at Germania International Airport—where the Greater German Reich has ruled since 1943 and perfected technology to harvest souls from parallel realities through consciousness-scanning machinery that pulses with seventeen-beat rhythms. Now trapped in a terminal that breathes like a living organism, Sarah must navigate a world where every passenger hides a secret and her resistance could either save her timeline or doom infinite versions of humanity to eternal enslavement in a Reich that spans all dimensions.
Dream a Little Dream - by Jae El Foster: After a near-death car crash rewires her brain, Sarah's nightmares bleed into reality: sugar on the counter forms glyphs, bats appear out of nowhere in broad daylight, and her own hands betray her—while the velvet-eyed stranger from her dreams appears in her waking hours, his urgency growing as Halloween's veil thins. Now, with her reality twisting into something surreal and an ancient language hijacking her voice, she must confront a dark truth: her soul isn't hers to keep, and the man who saved her in death is the very entity hunting her in life.

EXCERPT:

From ‘A Mirror to Die For’ by Cindy Lewis Smith....
"May I have a glass of water?" I asked.
I'm just so uncomfortable. These clothes I am wearing are itchy and stained. I have no recollection of purchasing this outfit. It's definitely not mine nor my style. My hair feels gritty and needs to be washed and brushed. Any day now my fiancé John Henry, some people call him Doc, will be bringing me my own clothes and makeup, and a new hair brush too. I know he will. I can't wait to see him. It's been so long.
In fact, I don't know where he could be. The last time I saw him we argued, but that was the way it was for us. I'd forgive him and we would go on as if nothing happened. This chair is uncomfortable. The seat is worn out and the softness of the padding has long gone. I have to keep squirming and readjusting my body just to be able to endure the sitting.
I noticed the clock on the wall directly in front of me. It's one of those large heavy clocks, probably weighing fifty pounds or more. There's a picture of the Eiffel Tower in the face of the clock. The word Paris is written in a pretty script over the tower. I doubt anyone in this place has ever been to Paris. It's on my bucket list. John Henry and I may honeymoon in Paris once we're married, although he's been talking about going back to Georgia instead.
To distract my thoughts in the silence of this morbidly uncomfortable room, I envision the clock falling and crashing to the floor, leaving a giant hole in the wall where the nail would be. I imagine that the glass in the clock has broken into thousands of tiny pieces. Sharp pointy shards of glass are scattered throughout the room, glittering like diamonds on velvet. Aren't they so pretty?
"I'm sorry, I lost my train of thought."
"Go on," he said, "Tell me more about what happened to John Henry"
I love talking about John Henry. My story, it's all true, you know. Every single word. I wouldn't have believed it myself if it didn't happen to me.
I readjusted myself one more time in the chair and continued.
"It all started the day I purchased the mirror," I explained.
"You see, I hadn't slept but maybe four or five restless hours the entire previous week. My life had become mundane and boring. The excitement was gone between me and John Henry. His demeanor had changed. He said it wasn't him, it was me who had changed. But, I knew he was lying."
He never told me any truths. Not anything about his past or what he did when he left me. Sometimes, I felt like he was only using me. Like I was a mysterious link or something between what he used to be and what he wanted to be now. It's hard to explain, it was probably nothing more than my imagination.
John Henry was just so ruggedly handsome, I couldn't help myself, so I forgave him often when we argued. Maybe because of our fighting and torrent relationship, the headaches were coming more and more frequently. And, more intense.
I refused to take the prescription medication I was given. Those pills... those little pink and red pills! NO! No, not those pills again. I couldn't take it anymore. I tossed the prescription bottle into the trash can and grabbed the keys to my car on my way out the door. I heard the door slam behind me and I didn't look back. I was not going to think about John Henry, if only for one day.
"My old Chevy was stuttering and in need of some repairs, but it didn't stop me from driving wherever I wanted to go. And that day, I wanted to go across the border. It was a warm day in late September, with barely a breeze moving through the dry air. I was wearing a big straw hat, the same kind the Chiquita Banana woman wears on the TV commercials, a pair of dark sunglasses and shoes that flipped back and forth on my feet."
I was getting low on gas so I coasted into an old, mostly deserted town in southern Arizona. It was just a few miles or so, maybe thirty or forty minutes across the border. I didn't want to take a chance on stalling out the car. Service stations out there are few and far between. I parked my car on a dust covered side street and strolled to the downtown area of this dusty little town.
Some old-timers were outside sitting on benches that lined the wooden sidewalks of the streets. Their wrinkled cheeks were swollen on one side from a wad of chewing tobacco. A dirty brass spittoon was centered on the sidewalk between them. I could feel them staring at me. You know that kind of stare implying that I didn't belong there, that I'm out of place.

A promise unkept. A love she can’t forget. This wily human will do anything to reclaim the heart of the Goblin King.
Lady Melody Piobaire never lost faith her first love would come for her when she was forced from his side. That is, until she finds out he doesn’t even know who she really is...doesn’t even know she’s human. To make things worse, she’s the promised mistress of the sidhe king. Rather than bear Tir’s heir, she devises a plan to win back her true love in the most goblin of ways.
Orphaned elf Aodh never forgot what it was like growing up on the mean streets of Goblintown. And now, as Goblin King, he’s dedicated to being the just and attentive ruler the neglected goblins deserve. So when a spoiled human who knows nothing of what it means to be a goblin tricks him into marriage, he’ll do anything to be rid of her.
Melody is certain she can win Aodh’s heart again, so she isn’t prepared for his hot and cold hostility. Aodh is unsettled by the forward human in his home and the way she seems to know just how to get to him.
What can Melody do if her only love no longer wants her, or worse, no longer exists?

EXCERPT:

His blush deepened. “Help me by being my goblin queen.”
Heat bloomed on my cheeks and neck—even my ears felt hot. I could hardly hear my voice over the sound of my pounding heart. “Is this a marriage proposal?” I tried to make my voice light, but I didn’t quite pull it off.
He dropped his eyes to the little bit of space between us. “I mean, you must like me at least a little. You’ve kept coming around these last few months after all.” His nonchalant tone was much more convincing than mine had been.
Disappointment wiggled its way into my heart, but it made my lie much smoother. “Yes, to buy potion ingredients.”
His expression sagged a little, and hope pushed the disappointment aside. “W-well, you did kiss me that time.”
I could see it now, and I smiled while my heart rang as a bell struck. “Yes, to thank you for saving me.”
All of his confidence, his bravado, crumbled away as he turned his gaze back to the dispersing crowd.
“Do you know what you’re asking me to put aside?” I wondered aloud.
“I’m sure your parents have picked some rich and powerful sidhe out for you,” he said bitterly. “Is that what you want?” His question was quiet, uncertain.
Thoughts of guilt toward my family and Lorccán were long forgotten. My hand trembled when I reached out and rested it on his, and his eyes flicked to mine.
“They have. But even so, when you become the goblin king, I’ll be your goblin queen,” I murmured.

Book Tour for The Starlight Motel by Amy Craig (Guest Post & GIVEAWAY)…

An oasis in the middle of nowhere brings together two people struggling with obligations and desires in this sensual tale set during the holiday season.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of The Starlight Motel by Amy Craig, along with getting Ms. Craig’s description of an ideal heroine and compelling couple, then learn even more about this book by visiting the other sites hosting this tour.  In honor of this holiday-fueled, contemporary romance, make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a $15 bookstore GC too!

MS CRAIG DESCRIBING AN IDEAL HEROINE AND WHAT MAKES A COUPLE WORTH ROOTING FOR...
Kada from THE STARLIGHT MOTEL is a heroine everyone loves. She embodies resilience, creativity, and a deep connection to her family and artistic roots. Her journey balances duty and desire as she navigates her responsibilities while pursuing her passions.
Kada’s ability to take on the responsibility of managing the Starlight Motel after her grandfather’s passing, despite her own dreams and ambitions, speaks to her strength and resilience. She steps up in a time of need, showcasing her capacity to handle difficult situations with grace.
Her artistic eye is evident as she carefully assesses the mural-in-progress on the motel’s casita. This creative sensitivity is a crucial part of her character, reflecting both her internal struggles and her desire to express herself through art.
Her deep sense of duty to her family keeps her at the Starlight Motel, even as Los Angeles and her artistic dreams beckon. This tension between duty and desire makes her a complex and relatable character who faces real-life dilemmas with courage. We’ve all been Kada at one point in our lives.
A couple worth rooting for is one that complements each other’s strengths and weaknesses, supports one another through challenges, and grows together over the course of the story. Kada and her partner, Dane, exemplify this dynamic.
Dane is not just a love interest; he is a partner who supports Kada. His encouragement and belief in her artistic talents help her navigate tough decisions. Even though he thinks he controls his family’s land, he never wants to control Kada. Maybe a few candlelit dinners with her would be nice.
Both Kada and Dane value the idea of living without regrets. This shared outlook on life brings them closer. They both want a life where they can be true to themselves, and they just need to find a way to work together to achieve happiness.
The challenges Kada faces—managing the motel, grappling with her artistic doubts, and balancing her personal desires with familial obligations—are significant. Even though her attraction to Dane helps her navigate her life choices, voicing her concerns to her family members helps, too. Rooting for two characters that live in isolation might be possible, but cheering them on as they interact with their friends and loved ones is where the magic happens.

Experienced muralist Kada took charge of her family's Palm Springs motel to give her mother time to grieve. As a grant deadline approaches, Kada must convince her mother to manage the motel so she can return to her art. Late in December, Kada encounters a horseman approaching the property. Dane, the reserved son of a local farming family, is a loyal workaholic with limited spare time or experience outside the valley. When lightning startles his horse, he lingers at the motel and stirs up Kada's emotions about leaving the desert oasis. Wary of mixing business with pleasure, she struggles with her attraction. As New Year's Eve approaches, will the cowboy convince her to chart a new course?

EXCERPT:

Her skin warmed from the heat of his palms. “I can’t afford to sit around the laundry room and gossip with the guests.”
“Trust me, Kada, I’m not here to gossip.”
“You’re ready to pitch in on odd jobs? You’re such a good neighbor.” She swallowed past the dryness in her throat. She had a three-date rule, but if she never started the first date, did the rule apply? “Thanks for helping with Lucky.”
“Any time.” He tipped up her chin. “Are you sure that’s where you want to stop? You brought me your number and rode out into the desert with me, but now you’re skittish?”

Her throat felt parched, but she wanted to lean forward and test his intent. Instead, she kicked her feet against the machine’s vibrating drum. “I’m not skittish, but I’m not into quick romps on a washing machine.”
He raised his eyebrows. “I wasn’t suggesting a quick romp.”
She wanted to test the innuendo behind his offer, but the sequence felt out of order. Before she considered kissing the handsome farmer, she needed dinner, candlelight, and time to breathe.
Her body offered a different opinion. Clearing her throat, she hopped off the washing machine, ducked under his arm, and ran her tongue along her teeth. In the tiny room, his skin smelled like fresh lime, warm spices, and a hint of honey, but his shirt held the leathery undertones of a hard day’s work. He looked handsome, and she wanted to taste his kiss, but she needed a different setup. “Or long romps.”

Book Tour for The Shadowed Moon by Elli Morgan (Guest Post & GIVEAWAY)……..

Enemies become so much more in this edge of your seat paranormal romance that will have you frantically turning the pages to see what happens next.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of The Shadowed Moon by Elli Morgan, then learn even more about it through the author's guest post, and by visiting the other sites hosting this tour.  In honor of this fast-paced standalone story make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a $15 bookstore GC too!

MS MORGAN SHARES WITH READERS WHAT HER FAVORITE PARANORMAL/SUPERNATURAL SHOWS ARE AND HOW THEY INFLUENCED THE CREATION OF THIS BOOK:
Ever since I was a teenager, I’ve been obsessed with vampires. So, most of my favorite TV shows feature vampires in some way. The most obvious ones are Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Buffy. But I also enjoy many other paranormal/supernatural shows where vampires play no role (or just a minor role), for example, Supernatural, Lucifer, and Charmed.
My first answer to the question of how these shows influenced The Shadowed Moon would be “They didn’t.”
But then I remembered one of my best friends reading the book as a beta reader. In the last third of the book, I introduce a new character, Markus, a tall, black-haired vampire prince. After reading that chapter, my friend told me he reminded her of Elijah from The Originals. When I reread his scenes, I realized she was right. I feel like Elijah’s vibe fits him pretty well, though. So, I’m happy I subconsciously based his character on Elijah.
I also hint at one of my main characters, Sarah, watching TV in one scene. Sarah is a young vampire who got kidnapped as a child by vampires. They tortured her and trained her to become their soldier before turning her on her eighteenth birthday. So, she never got to watch TV growing up. When she finally gets the chance to explore this medium, the human take on her kind confounds her. After her horrible past, she couldn’t believe vampires would go to high school and fall in love with one of the other students. But that’s pretty much what happens in Vampire Diaries.

After they took everything from him, Dave Patton dedicated his life to hunting vampires. But he can’t bring himself to destroy their newest vampire prisoner Sarah—a young woman with a tragic past, who awakens forbidden desires in him.
Sarah McAllister spent her childhood in the hands of ruthless vampires aiming to turn her into a perfect soldier. To take revenge, she hides her true strength and surrenders to a group of hunters, hoping her knowledge will help them bring all monsters to justice.
When the hunters’ compound is attacked, Sarah has to reveal her powers to protect them from certain death. How will Dave react when he learns the truth? And how much will she have to sacrifice to defeat her tormentors?

EXCERPT:

“Okay then.” She swallowed and backed away. “Come at me and try to land a hit.”
He drew his sword. “Just one?”
“One will be hard enough, trust me.” She disappeared, only to reappear on the opposite side of the hall with a grin. “I’ll give you ten minutes before I go on the offensive.”
“All right.” He stormed at her.
Every time he approached, she glided out of reach. Whenever he thought he’d cornered her, she vanished. How did she move so incredibly fast? After a while, he bent over, panting.
“If you can’t get close, you’ll never touch me.”
“Well, you’re just running away. Looks like you’re afraid to face me,” he taunted her.
She laughed. “I’m not, and I’ll happily prove it to you in—” She glanced at the clock on the gym wall. “—three...two...one...now. Your time is up.”
He swallowed and tightened the grip on his sword. “Well then, turn your words into actions because I’m not running either.”
“As you wish.” She flew at him. With the force of her speed, she pushed him back against the wall. Faster than he could react, she seized his arms with hers and pressed her delicate body against his to keep him from fighting back.
Her soft breasts rubbed against his chest as he struggled against her, and the scent of chocolate and coconut assaulted his senses. She tempted him in more ways than one, and his hands ached to break free and explore her body. A flush of warmth spread through him as he imagined turning their training session into a make-out one. Since this was neither the time nor the place for such thoughts, he shook his head to clear it.
When his jeans tightened, he knew he’d lost the battle—against his arousal.

Book Release Blitz for Clap Back by Lani Lynn Vale (REVIEW)…..

A man who's always stood aside for his brother finds his love life becoming very complicated in this tale of bad first impressions and dating the boss's daughter.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Clap Back by Lani Lynn Vale, along with getting my impressions of it, then add this fourth installment in the Carter Brothers series to your bookshelf.

What isn’t great is having the hots for the same woman your twin does.
Been there, done that, have the t-shirt.
Since Auden Carter made that mistake in his teens, he’d promised himself never to do that to his brother again.
Hence why he’s tried so hard to stay away from Maven, the sexy bakery owner that seems to have been put on this planet to tempt him.
After months of watching his brother never make a move, Auden’s had enough. He tells his twin to either shit or get off the pot. Only, come to find out, his twin was never on the pot. He’d never had the hots for Maven at all, but her cute little assistant.
Unfortunately, at this point, he’d done his level best to appear undesirable to Maven, and had gone out of his way to make it very clear that he wasn’t interested.
He has a lot of work to do to convince her that he’s not the guy he’d been acting like for the last few months.
Luck is on his side, though, and soon Maven needs his help, giving him the perfect opportunity to worm his way into her life...and her heart.
But that help she needs turns into a desperate plea for protection, and all he has to do is quit his beloved job to give it.
It’s not every day that you are in love with your boss’s daughter, who just so happens to be the chief of police of Dallas, Texas—your beloved police department that you’ve worked at for your entire career.
It’s also not every day when that boss pulls out every stop, and ruins your life to the point where you’re not sure you can find your way out of the downward spiral he’s forced upon you.
There is one thing Auden knows for certain, though. Maven is worth it. He’ll fight the chief of police, or the entire world, putting his life on the line to do it, as long as it keeps her safe.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

The Carter Brothers series is back with this fourth installment that once again brings family to the forefront.  Family can sometimes be your best support, while at other times they can make life harder, and in this book it's Maven's family who caused her nothing but unhappiness.  With an overbearing father, uncaring stepmother, and cruel stepbrother, there were a lot of heartbreaking moments in her life.  Despite all the bad familial vibes though Maven remained an immensely likable heroine with a good and kind heart that I desperately wanted someone to appreciate.

Luckily for Maven there's Auden Carter, and his family, who support her from the moment they show up at her bakery.  Auden's a strong and caring hero who starts a slow burn with Maven, concerned his brother has feelings for her, before he discovers the truth and throws himself into her life completely.  Together they burn up the pages, dealing with the intrusions from her family, all of which will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

This story may start off a bit slow as matters of the heart work themselves out, but once Auden and Maven connect they're a formidable pairing which had me rooting for them wholeheartedly.  The Carter Family were a wonderful addition, like always, with a bond that jumped off the pages.  They're larger than life, supporting each other through everything, through words and deeds that showed their love...and it warmed my heart.  To add another delightful layer to the story is a new family arriving on the scene, bold and brash, and I can't wait to learn more about them!  On a whole, this was a well-crafted story with the perfect balance of suspense and romance.  Action in and out of the bedroom, along with clever twists and turns, kept me glued to the pages and an epilogue that was like a bow on a present.

My rating for this is an A-

*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.

“Those lips,” I said, the words slipping off my tongue.
“Excuse me?”
His question broke my trance. “Oh, Lord. I’m sorry I—”
“Wait. You feel it, too, don’t you?”
I hesitated then nodded.
Max leaned toward me. “You know, I’ve been trying to get a read on you tonight, but I’m pretty rusty at all this.”
“Let’s get one thing straight, Max. There’s nothing about you that’s rusty.”
A smile quirked at the corner of his mouth. “The word means nothing to you because you’re young and beautiful.”
I crossed my arms over my chest. “You really think a lot about this age thing, don’t you?”
He sighed. “I’m thirty-one, Goldie.”
“Well, lucky for you my ceiling’s a good thirty-three.”
He bit back a smile, his eyes growing softer, warmer. “I like you, Goldie.”
“I like you, too, Max.”
“I really want to kiss you.”
“So, what’s stopping you?”
“The very real possibility I won’t be able to stop,” he said with a reverent tone.

EXCERPT:

Isabel glanced around the hall, curious about the townsfolk who would be her neighbors for the summer. As she looked around the room she was startled to see a man staring intently at her. Their eyes met, and she had the sense he'd been watching her for some time.
She looked away before he did and leaned over to whisper in her aunt's ear. “Who is that man?”
Verity followed her gaze. “That’s one of the sons of the house. Robert Claremont.”
“Indeed?” Isabel stole another glance at him.
“Yes, and the man beside him is Mr. Kensington. He's lived with the Claremonts since he was a boy. He's a friend of your uncle's.”
“Did you not say there was another brother?”
“Yes, and there he is.William Claremont, Robert's twin.” “Twin?” asked Isabel, taken aback. “They look nothing alike.” “It sometimes happens that way.”
Isabel watched the Claremont brothers and their friend cross the hall to the high table. Once they were seated Isabel was able to study the brothers more closely. They were both tall and had blue eyes. William was blonde and exceptionally handsome. He looked confident, even arrogant, and Isabel knew at once he would be popular with the ladies. From the way he surveyed the women in the room, William knew it, too.
The other brother, Robert, was striking in his own way, with wavy black hair and high cheekbones. His angular face suggested haughtiness, but there was a lightness underneath — as if he was thinking of a jest but trying not to laugh.

After graduating from college with an art degree she settled in the Pacific Northwest, where she currently resides with her family.
Kate wrote her first romance when she was sixteen, then set her pen down for years until another story floated into her head out of the clear blue sky. She jotted it down, just for fun, but soon it took on a life of its own.

EXCERPT:

“Cousin Ahankara! You escaped!! And with an unconscious Medhani!!” Kunjahl exclaimed and submerged himself in the ocean.
The waves instantly parted away from Kunjahl’s body, and the waters around him suddenly became calm. Kunjahl held up an unconscious Ahankara’s head upon his arms, the golden strands were covering his cousin’s face. Kunjahl gently blew upon the spirit’s face which made the golden hair delicately fall back and undulate upon the water’s surface.
Sol saw the two large golden horns extending and coiling out from the temples of the man’s head. His eyes skewed, the identity of these identical men and the child were not known to him. He repeated their names silently in his mind. Sol marveled at the intuition of the magister, now he understood why Kunjahl wanted to be here tonight by the ocean. Not even the king of the Western Continent was here tonight, despite The Spring being so close to where they were now at the tip of the New East Island. “
Speak to me, awake my brother, let me hear your voice” Kunjahl spoke gently to the unconscious Ahankara “Tell me how you were released.”
Sol watched as a pair of golden eyes slowly opened and looked up at Kunjahl. The gaze of this man exuded an enchantment that even the likes of Sol could not resist admiring.
A faint smile appeared on Ahankara’s face “Kun-jahl?” he asked in a weak tone.
“Yes! Yes, Ahankara it is I and you are safe in my arms now!” the son of Kumarun replied.
