Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Sloe Screw by Nazarea Andrews, along with my impressions of it, then add this third installment in the River Street Bar series to your bookshelf!
Vivian Fitzpatrick is a big dreams girl stuck in a small town. She likes her job, and she adores her friends, but there’s a tiny part of her that still wants adventure. Wants all the unfulfilled dreams to come true. She still wants to base jump and skydive and do everything her ex-boyfriend said she was too chicken-shit to do.
Which is probably how she ends up moonlighting for a phone sex line.
Matteo Soto is just trying to figure out how to live again.
A bomb in Iraq left half his unit dead, and Matteo broken. He puts on a good act--the rookie at RCPD, taking care of his dead best friend’s family. But it feels too much like going through the motions, too much like marking time.
He needs a reason to get up in the morning.
She needs to feel alive.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
There’s a lot to like about this contemporary small town romance of moving on from the past to make the kind of life you want. From its appealing main couple to its colorful cast of secondary characters, readers will find themselves drawn to this slow-burn romance that’s familiar but still satisfying.
Vivian Fitzpatrick thought she was once in love and sacrificed the opportunity of a lifetime for the man who said he loved her. It was a crushing blow once he dumped her and caused her to go off the rails for awhile before she ultimately made her way back. Vivian once valued adventure but after the judgments of her ex she more than made up for lost time through drinking, one night stands, and a stint as a phone sex operator. While all of these desperate and self-destructive actions disappointed me, they all led her to Matteo and a romance full of the healing power of love. On a whole, Vivian was a likable heroine stunned by fate whose flaws were so clearly on display. Her actions, her responses weren’t anything to set her apart from others but her journey of empowerment kept me cheering her on.
Matteo Soto has been betrayed by his past too as he ends up back home due to PTSD issues where he gets the chance to gain a bit of perspective when it comes to his reasons for taking care of a dead soldier’s family. He’s not looking for anything other than a bit of peace, the chance to stop the guilt that’s been driving him. What he finds instead is a woman unlike any he’s known before, a wild child whose connection to him is crackling. Matteo’s a delicious hero who balances angst with sexiness to perfection to make him the highlight of this story for me.
This is an enjoyable read from start to finish with an appealing hero and a heroine who’s full of imperfections, but still worth rooting for. Theirs is a sensual connection that starts out slowly, pulling me in every step of the way to fully immerse me in their coupling. Surrounding this likable main couple was a cast of supportive secondary characters, friends who felt more like family as the story progressed. While this book isn’t a groundbreaking one, it is another entertaining addition to the River Street Bar series that will bring hours of delight to readers.

Nazarea Andrews (to almost everyone) is an avid reader and tends to write the stories she wants to read. Which means she writes everything from zombies and dystopia to contemporary love stories.
When not writing, she can most often be found driving her kids to practice and burning dinner while she reads, or binge watching TV shows on Netflix. N loves chocolate, wine, and coffee almost as much as she loves books, but not quite as much as she loves her kids.
N is a self-professed geek and enjoys spending her spare time lost in her favorite fandoms and can often be found babbling about them on social media.
She lives in south Georgia with her husband, daughters, spoiled cat and overgrown dog. She is the author of World Without End series, Neverland Found, Edge of the Falls, and The University of Branton Series. Stop by to see her on twitter and tell her what fantastic book she should read next.
