“Let me grab that for you.”

Mac’s face appeared at Cory’s shoulder, his cheek close enough that if she moved her lips a few inches, she could press a kiss there.

Now, where did that thought come from? Easy, girl.

The rich smell of man, outdoors, and a hint of the morning’s after-shave drifted over her, sparking sensual thoughts like cheek-smooching.

Okay, way more sensual than just cheeks, she thought, as her gaze zeroed in on some sexy lips made for kissing. Lips so full and so soft and so noticeable even when surrounded by the close-clipped dark beard. Lips that easily curved into a killer smile capable of stealing your breath away. Lips like that had to be made for kissing. His eyes studied hers intently.

Good grief, don’t let this man read my thoughts. They would set his hair on fire.

As if he had heard, the notably sexy lips curled into the aforementioned breath-stealing smile.

Kiss me. Please, kiss me.

That wayward thought made Cory gasp in surprise.

He shifted back a few inches. “It’s okay. I’ve got it.”

Great. He’d heard. How embarrassing. She had gasped like an adolescent teen.

He straightened and gathered up the mulch bag, then dropped it into the wagon. “These are too heavy for you.”

“Not really. I’d have to load them if you weren’t here.”

“But I am here.

His voice had gone husky, and her skin tingled. He was only inches away again. When had he moved? So quick, so silent.

His predatory-blue eyes fixed on her, gliding over her face—over her—as though memorizing her features. Or did he search for answers to unasked questions?

Her pulse rioted. Her palms grew clammy.

Mac leaned closer.

She held her breath.

“I . . .” He hesitated.

What?

Tell me.

Tell me or kiss me.

One or the other, dang it.

He cleared his throat. “I want to thank you for the job.”

The pent-up air whooshed out of her disappointed lungs as he bent down to grab another mulch bag. What had just happened? She had almost kissed her new temporary laborer in the barn on his second day of work. That was nuts.

So why did doing it feel so right?

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

The Carter Brothers are back with this fast-paced and suspenseful roller coaster ride that I absolutely devoured! The characters are immensely likable with familial interactions that pulled me even further into the story.

While the romance of Athena and Gable is one we've seen before, with all the usual issues surrounding their age-gap, I still enjoyed the battle they undertook with trying to keep away from each other despite being inevitable. Their banter was crackling with lots of sexual tension, a connection full of twists and turns, with lots of back and forth. Gable's got a good heart, frustratingly he doesn't often think before he leaps, but I still found much to endear him to me and have me rooting for him. Athena's the ideal heroine, a feisty and strong-willed younger woman who has emotional baggage courtesy of a family full of pain and loss. These two seemed different from the outside, but their connection was pure perfection.

The overall storyline was full of lots of moving pieces, surprises that shocked me in a good way along with bad. The suspense was heart-pounding with a sensual and sizzling romance that brought out the best in Gable. Alongside him was the rest of the Carter family, always there to support one another while seamlessly bringing Athena into their fold. By the turn of the final page, I'm left satisfied but uncertain about where things go after a few surprising twists that left me gobsmacked. On the whole, this is another winner from Ms. Vale, and I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the final release in this series!

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Once again Ms. Earl has pulled readers into her dark and gritty world featuring the Devil's Handmaiden's MC and their continuing efforts to bring a dangerous group to justice. This is a story of second chances, bringing two people back together who were torn apart in an absolutely gut-wrenching way. They've been running from the pain ever since that moment, but the past has come back and must be finally dealt with as multiple storylines converge in this installment. From start to finish this is a heavy read with images and storylines that will be triggering to some. It depicts the worst of people while presenting an unconventional image of a family who unconditionally support this couple's journey back to each other. While the overall focus isn't on this couple's actual romance, readers are completely pulled into the emotional journey of physician Malcom Malty and bar manager Frankie ‘Wildcat’ Camano.

While this story CAN stand on its own it's a more richly rewarding experience to see where all of the individual storylines originated from and the intensity of them all coming together here. Malcom and Frankie's journey broke my heart at times, the hatred from others left me wanting to cry, but their resiliency and the support from the other secondary characters of the Devil's Handmaidens MC kept me turning the pages with hope that justice will prevail. Malcom and Frankie are a realistic couple, torn apart in a way I won't soon forget, and I was rooting for them to finally put the past behind them. Along with this unforgettable main couple was an eclectic and larger than life cast of characters, the women and men of the Devil's Handmaidens MC who have active roles in delivering justice. From the first page to the last this was another powerful story from Ms. Earl, an epic tale of second chances that pushes every emotional button.

“Tink Squirt is about to pull up. Just wanted you to know.”
The feeling in my gut is spreading. Haven’t had this feeling since when I was a recruit cop back home. The hair on the back of my neck is standing up I’m sure. Before I can ask what the fuck is going on Tink turns back first looking around at each sister than at me. That’s when it hits me that somehow the bar and grill is filled with just us and our family. The patrons that were in here maybe ten or fifteen minutes ago were gone. I start to move backwards, but Shadow is right there. When I go to move around, Tink and Glory are there to stop me. Then before I can think about what I’m about to say, I lose it.
“What the hell is going on? Why are you all closing in on me? You’re making me nervous, like something bad is about to happen. Did you find something out about that guy Squirt saw? Did you track him down, Raven? Come on, talk to me, please. This is driving me utterly crazy, as you can tell, because I never lose control. Can someone tell me why this is happening?”
Tink moves closer and grabs my hands. Now our prez is extremely petite but the strength just in the way she’s holding my hands gives me a moment of peace in my scattered thoughts. Until she opens her mouth.
“Wildcat what I’m about to say is probably going to piss you the fuck off. Not our intention but after we spoke with you decided that you needed this. If we’re wrong I’ll apologize later but in about I don’t know four or five minutes there are some folks that are going to walk in here to see you. How you react is on you but know that they’ve come a long way to make sure you’re okay..............”

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Another emotional gem in a series that continues to captivate readers as a dedicated bachelor finds himself the sudden guardian to his half-sister upon learning of his father's murder. Add in his surprising introduction to the little girl's aunt, Arianne, and readers get to see a family forming from the ground up. It's an emotionally intense journey to HEA, a heartbreaking yet uplifting romance of overcoming abuse and preconceived notions, and I was captivated by every word and each turn of the page.

Jackson 'Halo' Flynn is an older hero, one who's set in his ways and happily without any relationship ties when readers first meet him. He's a real man's man, rough around the edges, with an air of danger surrounding him that made for one drool-worthy morsel. Once little Lola came into his life though, a softer side emerged, one that warmed my heart. When another female comes into his life at the same time, a woman who Halo knows he should stay away from, fate shows that she has other plans for him after he gives Ari a place to rest her head in exchange for taking care of Lola. He starts off keeping Ari at arm's length, but before long the chemistry between them can no longer be ignored in a compelling romance that becomes more and more powerful.

Arianne is a woman who's been beaten down, physically and emotionally, by a man who kept her from living life to the fullest. He stole her self-esteem and left bruises and scars behind, but trying to keep her from her sister's funeral through one last beating, was the last straw. Seeing Halo for the first time is an intimidating moment for her, but him showing a softer side by holding Lola gives Ari a bit of reassurance. The more time this trio spends together, the stronger the bond grows between them. Halo slowly comes to realize that he has quite a lot to offer a woman, particularly Ari...who he wants to commit to wholeheartedly. Time spent with Halo becomes empowering for Ari, helps her self-esteem, and encourages her to deal with her ex head-on. The unconditional love and support of Halo is just what Ari needs in a beautiful romance that was built from dark roots. Neither of them knew what they were missing until they came into each other's lives...and together it all added up to a match made in heaven.

This family in the making kept me glued to the pages and rooting for them every step of the way. Theirs was a beautiful balance of love, support, and steam. Their journey fit in perfectly with the romantic journeys of past couples in the Iron Outlaws MC and gave Ari an even bigger support system. Just when everything seems to be going the Club's way though, the author upends everything with that gut punch conclusion that's now left me clamoring for the next book in this series!

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

When it comes to the MC world, D.M. Earl has proven herself to be a master in the genre. The Devil's Handmaidens MC series continues to exhilarate readers, presenting tough as nails heroines not afraid to show their softer sides to those men worthy of them. With this latest release, readers are pulled into the suspense and danger of a villainous gang trying to take over a town while continuing to destroy the club standing in their way. Amidst this pulse pounding backdrop is a second chance romance between a woman who for years has been hiding the pain caused by a man hoping for redemption. He's a man teeming with family secrets, who left her behind on the verge of them startling a life together, who's hoping to prove herself worthy of the woman he let get away. With a town and a family caught in the crossfire, readers will find themselves on the edge of their seats while holding on for dear life.

Along with this formidable couple, a pair deserving of their HEA, were the colorful and eclectic couples who've inhabited the series thus far. The costs became much higher with this installment and those who showed up proved their worth in another immensely satisfying story!
