Mr. Sterling blinks slowly, then says, “You needn’t bother. I meant what I said earlier—about there being absolutely no chance of me funding any of your projects.”
“I know you did. You hate what we do, even though SETI is a real and highly respected line of research. Not like a lot of the other projects in the foundation.” Leaning toward him a little, I say, “I mean, come on, the search for Atlantis? Might as well look for King Arthur’s sword. Embarrassing.”
 His lips curve up ever so slightly, and I’ll be damned if those aren’t a nice set of lips. “Let me get this straight. You look down on them?”
My face heats up with humiliation, which turns instantly to rage. Doing my best to stay icy calm, I say, “I assure you what those other teams do and what we do are nothing alike. Ours is a very real science based on facts and certainty. Theirs is a fairy tale.”
“I have news for you. You’re not that different.”
Okay, now I’m mad. “We most certainly are nothing like those crazy Yeti people.”
“You most certainly are. You all employed exactly the same strategy when it came to sending someone on this godforsaken trip to try to handle me.”
“Which is...?”
“Sending a young, attractive woman to convince me not to shut you down.” His eyes sweep over me. “It’s insulting really.”
Attractive? Did he just call me attractive? Is my face bright red right now? Because it feels ridiculously hot. Stupid face. “That’s not why I was picked.”
He arches his left eyebrow. “Really?”
“Yes, really,” I answer, sounding haughtier than I should. “There was a very good reason my team sent me.”
“What? Are you the only one who speaks Klingon or something?”
I narrow my eyes at him. “Obviously not. I’m the only one who had the necessary qualifications.”
He looks impressed for a second, but then I realize he’s just pretending. “So you’re the brains behind the whole operation then?”
“No, everyone on the team is...the brains behind the operation. We’re all one big brain and together we have all the skills and knowledge needed. Honestly, the whole thing would fall apart if you got rid of any of us,” I say, laying the groundwork in case he does give us funding but then decides to turn around and downsize us. Well, he could let Chad go. That would be fine. I’m about to say as much when the helicopter suddenly seems to be lifted up out of nowhere, pushing me into my seat with a terrifying force.
Without thinking, I reach for Mr. Sterling’s hand and he does the same to mine. We grip each other as the nose of the aircraft pitches up violently and the engine stalls. Closing my eyes, I feel panic take over me as it feels like we’re about to drop out of the sky. Without a parachute in sight. Thank God I went pee back at the airport...

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

With this sixth installment in the Wright Vineyard series, readers are reintroduced to Whitton Wright & Eve Houston and the continuing connection they have towards each other after one night together.  It was a night that left Eve full of self-doubts courtesy of messy break-ups and not feeling able to give more to another.  Whitt felt quite differently though as one taste of Eve wasn't enough for him and he has never given up on getting forever from her in a journey that warmed my heart and put a smile on my face.

On a basic level this is a romance of opposites attracting as Whitt comes from wealth, is the golden boy of the town, and from the outside seems to have it all.  His life isn't perfect though with a few family issues he's dealing with as well as his enduring (and endearing) efforts to prove himself to Eve.  He's a delicious hero throughout this story though, a true white knight who was all-in from the very beginning, and he never stopped supporting Eve as she worked through all the bumps life threw at her.  Eve's an equally likable heroine who's had to work hard for the things she wants and never felt good enough.  Throughout her burgeoning connection to Whitt she dealt with weighty family issues that I could relate to and that had me rooting for Eve to see how devoted Whitt was to her while supporting her in finding her own answers.  Though they come from two different worlds, Whitt and Eve were beautifully matched with sweet and sensual encounters balanced with the stressors of life fueling their rocky road to romance.  Add in a likable and entertaining cast of secondary characters, family and friends readers have come to care for throughout previous books, and you end up with a familiar romance full of heart and soul.

My rating for this is a B+

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Readers looking for a flirtatious tale full of secrets, plenty of groveling, and tons of push/pull moments will find themselves drawn to this story's couple from the very start. Both hold misconceptions about the other, but whenever they get close to each other things turn combustible.  An unforgettable night in a broken-down elevator only adds to the steaminess...and complicates their feelings even more in a quick (and sometimes frustrating) tale.  Theirs is a bumpy journey to HEA, one full of emotional twists and turns, introducing readers to an immensely appealing heroine and a hero who often left me annoyed.  With each turn of the page though, I found myself rooting for them to get past all the pain and secrets, proving themselves to be a flawed but entertaining pairing.

Clover Callaghan gave up everything for the man she loved when they got married, an acting and music career that gave her emotional and financial independence being one of the most important things she sacrificed.  She's finally free now though after divorcing her lying and cheating ex-husband!  The low life actually cheated on her with her best friend which fueled her leaving him behind after taking half of the money in their bank account.  That decision leads to all sorts of complications though, most of them she knows nothing about.  But with each turn of the page readers meet a hero bent on revenge, one who becomes obsessed with making Clover pay...until he discovers that all he thought he knew about Clover couldn't be further from the truth.  The one thing he's sure of though is that he wants her, body and soul, and will do whatever necessary to win her over.  No amount of groveling is too small and their combustible connection practically jumped off the page.  Clover's a very likable heroine, one who gets knocked down but dusts herself off and starts over again.  When given the opportunity she jumps back into acting, ready to make her way on her very own.  When it comes to men, she wants someone the exact opposite of her ex.  No rich men for her in her new life!  An encounter on a broken elevator introduced her to someone unexpected, someone she's drawn to, but someone who's weighed down by secrets that makes for a very bumpy ride to HEA.  Joar Jacoby's determined to make Clover's ex pay for all the investors he betrayed.  He also has his sights set on Clover as he thinks she's part of the scam.  In a relationship that starts out based on lies though, it's not long before Joar realizes his mistake, and starts doing all he can to earn her forgiveness.

This was a romance teeming with sexual tension, a tale balancing steamy encounters with moments of push/pull.  Joar left me frustrated quite often, his frequent second guessing of Clover's knowledge making me disappointed in him more often than not.  It took him awhile to get his hero-vibe going, but once he did he utterly charmed me.  I was slow to warm up to him, but once he undertook his plan to win over Clover (through clever moments of groveling), I was totally on board.  In contrast, Clover was amazing from the very start, a tough and independent woman who deserved only happiness.  On a whole this was an entertaining story, with only a few sections that dragged, made all the better courtesy of a combustible main couple and their relationship that kept me fully invested from start to finish.

My rating for this is a B.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Not having read the previous books in the Lone Star Crossed Saga, I didn't know what to expect and was worried I'd feel lost.  Luckily that wasn't the case though as this second chance romance stood strongly on its own to give readers a likable main couple who have more to themselves than they show the world.  This is a slow burn romance that sees the two of them letting down their emotional walls in a fake relationship that becomes more and more real with each turn of the page.

Anthony comes from a family of money which has allowed him to enjoy his life to the fullest...with no thought for the future.  Learning of the stipulations in his grandfather's will though forces him to take a good hard look at himself and the man he's become as he's going to have to find a wife if he wants to keep his money.  So begins a sweet and sentimental journey of introspection that has readers seeing him in a whole new light.  Sarah is just the woman Anthony needs, so her coming back into his life is fortuitous when it comes to his inheritance.  Despite her better judgment she's always been attracted to Anthony.  With her life revolving around work and keeping her father out of jail though, she's tried to steer clear of him and the temptation he represents.  When he makes her a business offer she can't refuse, life takes an unexpected turn for the both of them in this slow-burn journey to HEA.

This is a true fairytale romance, one with not a lot of angst or true heartbreak.  This is a story of second chances and becoming the person you were meant to be by grabbing on to what's most important.  This is a heartwarming tale with a couple I was rooting for from start to finish.  Though their story has been told many times I still found it a satisfying tale with secondary characters who have me wanting to read the previous installments in this series!

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Gavin and Whitley are combustible from the very first moment readers see these two again.  They've been in each other's lives for a long time, dancing around feelings that are blatantly obvious to us, but feelings they're fighting against as neither thinks they're relationship material.  Bumping into each other again though hits a light switch on for Gavin and has him doing all he can to claim Whitley once and for all...starting a fake relationship with her that soon becomes all too real.

Gavin King's a delicious hero, one who's loved Whitley from afar for a long time but who held back because she was once engaged to his friend.  She calls to him on every level and in every way though, so holding back is no longer an option for him.  Throughout their fake relationship Gavin's sweet and caring, supporting Whitley through every up and down.  He loves her exactly as she is, never wanting her to conform to anyone else's image in a sensual connection that just keeps building and careening towards the truth. Whitley Bowen's a successful plastic surgeon capable of crafting the perfect outer package, but when it comes to herself, she carries some self-doubts.  Three years ago she and Gavin made an emotional connection that scared her into running away from him, but this time around there's no running.  When a fake relationship takes an unexpected turn, these two will need to address all the truths, secrets, and lies that have kept them apart.  While they work through their feelings, their families plan for a wedding amidst a health scare and other twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat.  Through it all I found Whitley an amazing heroine, an immensely appealing woman who wears clothes like armor.  She's bold and brash, shows the world a take no prisoners attitude, but below that tough exterior is a vulnerable side that makes her even more endearing to readers.  They gave each other exactly what the other needed in a beautifully balanced romance that was sweet and seductive, a pairing teeming with heart and soul.

Alongside this unforgettable main couple was a large cast of friends and families, pushing this couple towards HEA through a rollercoaster ride of emotions.  These characters are ones we've seen before (which gives readers an update on their lives) while setting up new pairings that have me excited for the next installment in this series. While this book can be read on its own I definitely recommend reading the prequel, Cruel Kiss, which sets these two on their journey to HEA.  It was sweet and sensual, leaving me captivated and reveling in the temptation these two present!
