With the help of a bet, an eight-hundred-year-old marriage contract, and a spell, ex-SBS soldier Will might just have enough in his arsenal to capture Meghan’s heart.
Since arriving in Little Glen, Scotland, Meghan Kennedy’s life has got decidedly more interesting. She enters into a bet with hunky ex-SBS soldier, William MacKenzie, discovers an ancient marriage contract and to top it all off, she learns that she had a spell cast on her…eight hundred years before she was even born. None of it matters, because she refuses to make the same mistake twice. Will’s hard body and sexy grin don’t matter, his beautiful hypnotic eyes don’t matter, and it doesn’t matter that every time they kiss her body calls out for his, as though denied of his touch for hundreds of years.
Ex-SBS soldier William MacKenzie is disciplined, trained to be an efficient soldier and he takes the same approach with his life as he does his business. Then Meghan arrives, with her fiery temper and hair to match, all he can think about is Meghan. Her feisty temper bemuses him, her beauty astounds him and her stubbornness annoys the hell out of him. Lucky for him, he doesn’t know how to quit, he can be just as stubborn and occasionally ruthless, and he will use any means necessary to get her. Of course the ‘means’ at his disposal just happen to be a bet, a marriage contract and an ancient spell, but if in the end Meghan belongs to him, who is he to argue?
EXCERPT:
An hour later, Duncan sat at his desk, a beaten leather case sitting before him. The time had finally come. It had taken a good many years but Meghan was back.
Meghan. She had turned into a striking woman. She had the traditional Kennedy colouring, except the eyes. Her eyes had a mixture of his green and Ruth’s blue. Turning in his chair, he faced the portrait of his love. Meghan even resembled Ruth a little. He turned back to face the leather case. He placed his hands on it and expelled a long breath.
He had been surprised when she’d called last week and had said she wanted to come and stay with him. She had told him her reason, but he knew that there was more to it. Ryan had already filled him in on the past year’s events. Had told him what had been done to her and how she had changed from the hellion she had been to—as Ryan had put it—normal and boring. Two words Duncan would never have thought to describe his Meghan.
As selfish as it was, her visit was the opportunity that he had been waiting for. He had promised James MacKenzie on his deathbed that, if the opportunity presented itself, he would bring the families together. Well, now was the time, he wouldn’t get another chance.
Meghan was one hitch to his plan. She was so bloody stubborn. Normally, Duncan was proud of that particular Kennedy trait, however there were times it did get in the way. Although Duncan was certain that Will could handle anything she dished out. He was smart, financially secure, worldly, seeing a lot in his thirty-four years thanks to the military, and with Will being a former soldier, there was no concern with him protecting her. It was a natural instinct for him. That was clear when he’d carried her up to bed.
‘Don’t wake her.’ Duncan had had a hard time hiding his laughter as Will had tried to figure out a way to pick to her up. But when he finally had her in his arms and he’d turned to Duncan, there had been nothing but absolute certainty in his words. ‘I won’t.’
He closed his eyes and silently prayed.
They would be a good match. He liked the idea of Meghan marrying a man like Will.
He flipped open the leather case and pulled out a single sheet of parchment.
And he had just the thing to start that particular ball rolling.
The contract.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
The Bannockburn Spell is a story that manages to be both sweet and immensely sexy calling on a centuries old bond forging two families together. For Will and Meghan it gets progressively harder to fight Fate, and as they spend more time together, they don't want to.
The crux of the story revolves around these two immensely likable characters. Meghan is strong-willed and doesn't like to rely on others. Being betrayed by love before has made her overly cautious now even as Will sets loose a sexual onslaught hard to ignore. With the power of Fate hanging over her she can't stay away from Will, and as her life is in danger from a man from her past, with him is the safest place to be. As a former soldier Will is more than capable of keeping Meghan safe. He wants her, long before he finds out about their age-old marriage pact, but wants it to be her choice. The constant flirting, in both deeds and words, keeps the sexual tension running high and makes for a satisfying relationship well worth the wait.
Ms. Adams' descriptions of Scotland are beautifully depicted and draw you in completely. The quirky townspeople and historical scenery add even more charm to the story. The large cast of characters sometimes feels overwhelming but there are a few that set themselves apart and had me on the lookout for when they came on the scene. The writing also added to my enjoyment of the story as the relationship between Will and Meghan flowed along nicely with moments of fiery interludes amidst the constant undertones of sexual tension. Considering how enjoyable their relationship was, I found the scenes with Meghan's ex to be intrusive and took away from the romanticism surrounding them and the magical quality of the pact.
Readers wanting a sexy hero who's utterly to die for and a heroine you can admire will find exactly that in Ms. Adams latest release. Will and Meghan won me over from the first time they met and thinking of them now still puts a smile on my face.
My rating for this is a B.

AUTHOR INFO:
I am a full-blooded Canadian, right down to the maple syrup running through my veins. I enjoy watching hockey, but despise skating...and the cold. I enjoy a good helping of Tourtiere with a side of Poutine as must as the next person, yet I am only bilingual when it comes to swear words. I am proud to say I survived my token shot of Newfie Screech, although I did refuse to kiss the Cod - that is never going to happen - and I openly admit, that I fell in love with the Rocky Mountains the first time I saw them.
I have many occupations written down in my passport, mom, wife, author...zookeeper! However, I have to say that writing is by far the easiest part of my day.
I have three small -but legal- addictions: bed lines, lavender, and books. All of which, are replenished on a regular basis. Reading into the wee hours of the morning, is one of many bad habits, next to spontaneously rearranging furniture and randomly painting rooms in my house.

Do you have an author that you admire?
ReplyDeletemoonsurfer123 AT gmail dot com
Wow...that is a tuff one because I have so many favorite authors. But I'd have to go with Julie Garwood. She has this incredible ability to make my heart flutter when I read one of here books. And it's usually something simple like, the hero keeps the damsel from falling or he tells her that they will have 3 babes before she realizes that she loves him.
DeleteI just love that feeling.
Sweet and sexy work for me.
