Feature & Follow Friday.........
Hello all, it's that day of the week where we learn new things about each other and discover new blogs along the way. We also help each other by becoming followers of one another. Normally that following would be through GFC (which would be great if you'd still take a few seconds to do), but with that being eliminated for certain blogs (a big boo-hiss to that) I now ask that you follow through a RSS Feed (or Twitter, FB, or email) which you can find to the right. I want to thank all of you ahead of time who choose to become a follower and make sure to let me know in the comments if you're new so I doubly make sure to follow you back. And now for this weeks get to know me question....
Q: Have you ever read a book you thought you would hate - ? Did you end up hating it? Did you end up loving it? Or would you never do that?
A: For the most part I wouldn't read a book that didn't appeal to me on some level. That being said, I've read two books over the last two years that I wasn't sure what my feelings would be after reading them. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins left me in awe and happy to have read it. A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin is a book I so wanted to like but was left unimpressed by. It was too bloated with characters and story to keep my attention.

I didn't really enjoy the Hunger Games. I couldn't connect to the characters at all.

Here's my FF www.myviewpointonbooks.blogspot.com
I liked the first book in the Martin series. By book 3, he lost me. I didn't finish it. I'm halfway through and have been halfway through for months. He just keeps circling around the same scene from 10 view points! Ugh!

Tiffany aka a_tiffyfit My FF Post!
I love GoT on TV so was especially sad that the books didn't click with me. The TV show is like the Cliff Notes version of the books and they do a great job of translating and condensing so much into such a delightful visual package. I'm an old follower of yours and TY for visiting.

I really love Game of Thrones on TV. But those HUGE books make me a little wary. I should read them b/c I really like the characters onscreen, but... *Shrugs* Maybe someday. I loved Hunger Games as well!

Thanks again for visiting NG! I love the TV version of GoT as they really condense things nicely to creat the perfect balance of action and charactersizations.
DeleteI'm an old GFC follower of yours and wish you a wonderful weekend!

I enjoyed the Hunger Games too. Can't wait for the second movie!!
ReplyDeleteHere is my FF
I too can't wait for the next movie, especially seeing Finnick! I'm an old follower of yours and appreciate you visiting today.

Never read either since they didn't appeal to me storywise. But I have had books like that! Ones I thought I might not like, but loved! Ones I thought I would love but didn't like!

Have a GREAT weekend!

I always LOVE seeing you visit Jessica as we're both old timers in the blogging world. I'm always amazed by my reactions to books since it's always the unexpected. The freebie reads I come across for example are usually some of the best....which still catches me off guard.

I wasn't certain about The Hunger Games either, and while I LOVE those books, I certainly didn't enjoy reading them. (At least the last one..) Usually it's the other way around. I might hate the content of books, but there is still something about them that makes me "enjoy" them. XD

I'm an old follower of yours via Linky and am glad you stopped by today. While THG trilogy is hard to read because of the subject matter, there's still something about it that calls to me.
DeleteHappy Reading!

Glad you liked Hunger Games. I really like GoT, but I actually started watching the HBO series first, which made me want to read the books. I agree that the writing is a bit bloated and over-written, but the story is so great I just can't get enough. :D Great answer. Old follower. Happy Friday!

Thats really the first time I have heard anything bad about the Game of Thorns and you said something that I am a little bit worried about, because I have yet to read Game of Thorns. YAY, you like Hanger Games! I love that series :D

Hi! This is the 2nd time Silk Screen Views is joining the blog hop. Following you by Twitter.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually not a huge fan of a lot of books people love. One of them is the Sookie Stackhouse series. It's just not my thing. The writing... ugh. Don't get me started! Ha!
We prefer people to follow us on SSV via Wordpress, Email or Twitter. =)
I have to say, I am not a fan of the Captcha password protect for the comments. It's hard to read and time consuming.

Yeah, I'm not fond of Captcha passwords either but for the last three months some spam comments have been sneaking through so for a short period of time I've had to reinstate them. Sorry to everyone for having to do it but I DETEST SPAM and this was the only way to get it under control.
DeleteThanks for following me, And I'm now off to return the favor to you.

Old follower...
ReplyDeleteSee, I read the Hunger Games because the story interested me since I'd heard that plot before... and I was amazed by all the people crying, "OMG, such an original plot!"
No... not really.
I still really enjoyed it though, and I love Katniss :)
Admittedly, I love Martin's work. I love high fantasy, and stories full of detail and character. I'm a huge fan of world building vs. the "light" version of world building... but I think that's because I've always been a very visual learner, so I like things that create vivid imagery in my mind. I like feeling like I could walk through the world and know my way. XD
