Book Tour for The Laird’s Forbidden Lover by Amelia C. Gormley (Interview & GIVEAWAY)

Welcome to the blog tour for The Laird’s Forbidden Lover by Amelia C. Gormley!  This hot Highland historical M/M romance is now available from Riptide Publishing.  Our gracious tour host has been kind enough to interview me today, since I’m a new(er) Riptide author.  So keep reading to get to know more about Ms. Gormley......

Hi Amelia! Welcome! What draws you to romance? M/M romance?
I’m actually a latecomer to M/M Romance. I resisted slash fandom for a long time because it didn’t seem to ring true to the characters as I read them. In fact, I still hardly have any slash goggles. Most shows where people are gaga over a slash pairing that isn’t canon, I’m just like, “Meh, I don’t see it.” But then just a few years ago, I got into a fandom where there was a slash pairing that actually worked for me on a characterization level. It wasn’t canon, but the characterization was ambiguous enough that I could see it, and that was when I started writing slash. Through friends I made during that time, I learned about the M/M romance genre and once I began reading M/M romance, I realized that I absolutely could get into canonical M/M pairings, it was just the slashing of canonically straight characters that posed an issue for me. But give me original characters whose canon does allow for M/M pairings, and I’m over the moon.
Once I made that discovery, I realized that writing M/M pairings just offered up whole new vistas of storytelling for me. The tropes of the romance genre are made new when you come at them from the perspective of characters who deal with an entirely different set of issues and complications arising from their culture and experiences as gay characters. I just find it fascinating.

Have you ever written outside the romance genre? If not, do you ever plan to?
I haven’t, and I probably won’t, but never say never. My bread and butter as a writer is erotic romance. That’s where characters speak to me the strongest. But that isn’t to say I’m not willing to dabble in various romance sub-genres. I’ve already written a Highland historical, obviously, and I’m presently at work writing what I hope will work out to be a mystery, and editing a post-apocalyptic novel, Strain, to be released next winter. Another manuscript I have submitted is probably just as much a coming-of-age story as it is a romance, perhaps more so.

Do you write M/F stories too?
I have back when I was writing fanfic, but no, not since I began writing original fic. I’m considering one or two, but I’m not certain. We’ll have to see.

Farm lad Iain Munro knows his love affair with Tavish MacIntyre, future Laird of Creachann-Dubh, is dangerous—discovery could mean disgrace and death. But they’ve been in love since they were boys, and they’ve never been able to resist each other, dishonorable though it is to deceive their families.
Young men now, their sexual explorations have deepened and their love for each other has strengthened. But Iain’s father fears for his eldest son’s future, and Tavish faces dangers and duties of his own: his demanding mother would see him respectably wed, and his interfering sister knows too much—and has schemes of her own.
Facing a lifetime apart, Iain and Tavish must leave their childhoods behind for good as they choose between honor and love, innocence and happiness, and their vows before God and to each other.

AUTHOR INFO:

Amelia C. Gormley may seem like anyone else. But the truth is she sings in the shower, dances doing laundry, and writes blisteringly hot M/M erotic romance while her five-year-old is in kindergarten. When she’s not writing, Amelia single-handedly juggles her husband, her son, their home, and the obstacles of life by turning into an everyday superhero. And that, she supposes, is just like anyone else.

  3. Interesting to read about your writing preferences. I've always preferred romance in what I read, be it erotic or more vanilla. A character that's not concerned with his or her love life doesn't seem realistic to me.

Could me in the drawing, too. Thanks! lore13 at gmail.com

    1. I agree! The search for sex, romance, and companionship is such a universal thing. I think that is why those stories appeal to so many of us.

  8. One of the reasons I love reading M/M is because of the way you can take an old M/F trope and twist it all to hell. It opens up so many new plots!
