His Heart Held Hostage by Asta Idonea
When his father loses the battle against Hrafnaheim, Prince Darius finds himself a political prisoner.
Taken in chains to a dark and unfamiliar land, he begins to lose hope.
But then Captain Morten Gunnarsson of the Palace Guards is assigned to watch over him.
Now it is not just Darius' body being held hostage, but also his heart.
EXCERPT:
"Another hour and we will reach the castle, Prince Darius," the general said, his sneer morphing into a self-satisfied smile.
Darius hadn't failed to notice the tone the general used when he spoke the word 'prince', as if he would deny Darius his title if he could, but Darius chose not to react. The general's comment had been a statement, not a question, and it was no breach of etiquette not to respond.
The manacles weighed Darius' arms down, the iron chafing his wrists. But pride kept him from complaining. That he was chained at all was a disgrace, an insult of the highest degree. He wasn't supposed to be a prisoner of war but a political hostage, surety that his father would launch no future attack against the kingdom of Hrafnaheim. With the battle lost, Darius' father, King Javor of Slunickova, had reluctantly relinquished his only son and heir in order to keep his kingdom, and Darius couldn't blame him for that. Even so, Darius was sure his father had expected his son to be treated with greater care and respect than was currently being shown.
Either Darius' mind had been more occupied than he'd realized or else he'd drifted off to sleep, because the next thing he knew the carriage was shuddering to a halt, and General Eiriksson grabbed hold of his arm and jerked him from his seat.
