Book Release Blitz for Breaker by AK Nevermore (REVIEW)……

Fans of Sci-Fi, Dystopian Romances will find this a tantalizing and exhilarating tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Breaker by AK Nevermore, along with getting my impressions of it, then add this first installment in The Price of Talent series to your bookshelf too!

On an alternate earth, a cataclysm has altered a subset of the population. Talents are persecuted for their psychic and physical mutations, giving rise to two conflicting societies based upon maintaining genetic purity. And the Source, a shadowy corporate entity dependent upon the exploitation of captive Talents, is hunting them…

Self-exiled to the Outside, Flynn Scot is oath-bound to a life of strict penance.

Cursed with a vicious temper and haunted by the blood-stained debauchery of his past, Flynn’s sworn off women, whiskey, and violence, and doesn’t give a damn about whispers of the coming war. He sure as hell isn’t in the mood to make good on a debt when it’s called in, especially when playing white knight outs him as a Talent, and the damsel in distress as his soulmate.

On the run from her future as a broodmare for the Source, escaped Talent Kara Jester is no distressed damsel.

And the last thing she wants is to be trapped in a blizzard with a surly—and frustratingly captivating—thug. Without the suppression meds holding her libido in check, her biology’s primed to procreate, and Flynn’s growled assurances that he won’t touch her doesn’t match the hunger in his eyes.

It doesn’t align with what fate has in store for them, either.

With elite troops hot on their heels and the border set to close, it’s a race to the North, away from Kara’s horrific future and towards the dark past Flynn wants to keep buried. Clinging to the shreds of his oath, he’s forced to choose between protecting the woman he’s afraid to love and letting out the animal he swore he’d never be again. Either may destroy him, if Kara’s secrets don’t get them killed first.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

With the current chaos of our country, I found this book both an intriguing visual smorgasbord while also scaring the bejeebus out of me.  The images and ideas permeating this story, an agenda that a certain segment of the population desires, have me gravely concerned for the future.  With all those thoughts in my head I forged through on a journey that quickly pulled me into the danger of a future awaiting Kara along with Flynn's painful past that isn't as gone and buried as he thought.  These two tried to keep their hands off each other, but with each passing moment the sexual tension built.  Balancing out this sizzling connection was pervasive world building, with a too-soon reached conclusion that still leaves plenty of strings hanging for future installments.  On a whole, this was a satisfying start to a steamy and thought-provoking new series!

My rating for this is a B+

‘Your brass is ballsy, Kage Sable.’ - Harlow Meridien.
Running from her past, Harlow lives for the present. She’s sassy-smart-strong. A genius, generous, confident scientist developing a groundbreaking propulsion technology that’s attracted the attention of The Sable Group, and Kage Sable, to be exact.
He’s a master builder, an ex-warrior, a kick-ass engineer with sexy nerd energy and her new ‘boss’. His shop is responsible for an enviable fleet of high-tech corvettes, luxury flyers and racing pinnaces - helping to cement the Sable Riders’ dominance across Pegasi.
Convinced she’s the woman for him, Kage is determined to make Harlow his. He strongly believes every superwoman needs a superman. Problem is, she’s not so sure. She’s got a bad history with men. All she wants to do is focus on her work that could shift the balance of power in the Pegasi System.
She’s wary of Kage’s moxie and full-on thrust at life and love and doesn’t think she’s ready for that much intensity yet. But he slowly draws her in, one delicious moment at a time.
From subterranean speakeasies, sunken casinos and ancient ruins to fighting dens and exquisite eateries, Kage takes Harlow on dizzying flights of pure bliss across Eden II to convince her he’s light years from the ‘lame, always running game’ losers of her past. Instead, he’s a real man with strong convictions and the best intentions, who believes in an impossible love.
Together, they’ll fight for the relationship they want while keeping their top-secret breakthrough from a ruthless and secret galactic organisation. Together, they’ll fall into a twilight dusk of heady love and impossible starlight.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Fans of sci-fi romances have much to entertain them in this fast-paced and visually appealing tale of two larger-than-life people finding unexpected love.  Throughout the story readers are invited into colorful locations, heart pounding action, and moments of suspense as this couple tries to keep their secrets from being discovered by a dangerous organization.  With the bad guys constantly on their trail, these two people will be on a constant rollercoaster of emotions with lots of unexpected twists and turns.

Harlow Meridien is a smart and sassy scientist, one who just discovered a new piece of technology that the bad guys want.  To help guard her, and her powerful new tech, readers are introduced to the unforgettable Kage Sable.  Kage is a captivating hero, a bit of an anti-hero at times, but someone who becomes quickly devoted to Harlow in a journey full of sensual banter that sees him doing all he can to put her past behind them.  They're a crackling couple and I enjoyed the push-pull between them as it added a bit of urgency to their pairing, an urgency that kept me fully engaged from the first page to the last.

From above ground to below, there's a bright and colorful world on display that adds a compelling level to this already well-crafted story.  Along with this crackling couple, with their witty banter and steamy exchanges, there's a cast of equally entertaining characters who keep this book rolling along with its emotional highs and lows and action-packed sequences.  There's a fresh feel to this story, with its unique storyline and visual imagery.  So I thoroughly gobbled up this tale as I'm now left excitedly awaiting the next book in this series.

My rating for this is an A-

Book Blurb Blitz for The Warlord's Stormy Skye by Gail Kroger (GIVEAWAY)……

Readers will be drawn to this sci-fi story of a strong and sassy heroine with psychic and magical abilities who's being hunted down by a crazed witch who transformed herself into a spider...along with sexy alien males hoping to claim her as their mate.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of The Warlord's Stormy Skye by Gail Kroger, then learn even more about this witty and steamy rom-com by visiting the other sites hosting this tour.  In honor of this seventeenth installment in the Coletti Warlords series make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a $20 bookstore GC too!

My name is Skye McAllister, I’m a psychic witch and a healer. My life is a rollercoaster ride of craziness. My unique electrical powers have a bunch of alien males eyeing me like I’m prime rib at an all-you-can-eat banquet.
If that wasn’t bad enough, a crazy old witch transformed herself into a half-human Kotsor spider and is trying to kill me with hexes, magical bombs, and her zillion hatchlings. Have you ever tried to disarm an enchanted bomb with space Neanderthals trying to claim you as their mate? It’s a good way to die.
To keep me alive, Zarek, the Coletti Overlord, assigned me a partner. Vorian is a badass War Commander who is used to people obeying him immediately. Like that’s going to happen. I will admit he’s sex on two legs, and so damn pretty. But if I let my hormones dictate my actions, we’d be bound for life. Not happening.
Once we rid the galaxy of Mallox and the evil spider lady, I’m ditching his fine ass.

EXCERPT:

I winced. I had let my temper get the best of me and now my energy levels were dangerously low. Which meant I’d have to drink Vorian’s blood to disarm Marion’s nasty little traps. Ugh. Plus, if I didn’t find a way to stop them, my rabid suitors were going to get me killed. Talk about a rock and a hard place. If the price of saving Earth was becoming Coletti until I could conjure up a cure, so be it. I took a deep breath and gestured at the onyx ownership band Vorian held in his left hand. “How do you put that thing on?”
The War Commander stared at me in surprise. “You are prepared to become my mate?”
The thought of having sex with any male made me sick to my stomach. “I thought human females disgusted you. This will be a platonic partnership, nothing more.” I held out my hand. “Deal?”
Vorian’s eyes narrowed speculatively, then he took my hand. “Deal.” I looked at Zarek and raised an inquiring eyebrow.
A faint smile on his face, Zarek nodded. “I have no objections.”
“The copper etchings state you belong to me,” Vorian said as he fastened the band around my throat. “Oh yay! What I’ve always wanted. My very own dog collar.” It adjusted to fit my neck perfectly.
Vorian expelled a long breath. “Most females consider it an honor to be chosen.”
“I’m not most females.”

Take this for an example: I answered, “9-1-1 emergency, what’s your emergency?” And this hysterical woman yelled, “My bird is in a tree.” Sometimes I really couldn’t help myself, so I said, “Birds have a tendency to do that, ma’am.” The woman screeched, “No! You don’t understand. My pet parakeet is in the tree. I’ve just got to get him down.” Like I said, not a clue. “I’m sorry ma’am, but we don’t get birds out of trees.” The woman then cried, “But... What about my husband? He’s up there, too.” See what I had to deal with? To keep from hitting myself repeatedly in the head with my phone, I took up writing.

EXCERPT:

Atlan Warlord Velik, Florida
Alien. Outcast. I was from another world and most of the small minded humans refused to look beyond that.
I was larger than a human. This was not news. But I supposed seeing a beast such as Braun or Tane on their small television screens in the ridiculous matchmaking program was much different than having an Atlan male in the flesh shouting at nothing. At no one. At himself.
I am beast. Not no one.
“I know.”
I fight. I kill. I hunt. I protect. I serve. Reward. Want mate now.
“I know. I am looking for her. Every day.” The words came out in short bursts as my feet hit the sand. I ran barefoot at the edge of the water. My shorts were soaked through from a combination of salt water and sweat. I’d taken my shirt off hours ago, the heat of the sun on my skin soothing.
At least the sun shined upon me with warmth.
Hurt them. Make them tell us.
The beast forced me to look at a group of young humans playing a game with a white ball and a tall net. It appeared the purpose was to get the white object back over the top of the net before it touched ground.
Young males strutted and made jests as they competed for the scantily clad females. Their bodies were on display, both sexes. Meant to entice a mate.
I looked at each of the females in turn as I approached, then ran past. Smooth, round breasts. Soft skin. Long, shapely legs. They were beautiful females, every one. In my youth, I would have taken any of them to my bed for hours of pleasure. Now, my beast demanded only one female. Would accept just one. Our mate. I looked at the perfect, fragile females. Inspected their bodies. Their curves should have made my cock instantly hard. I should have wanted to touch, to taste, to explore.
I felt nothing. Perhaps I had a few days left. But no more. Either I found my mate...or I chose an honorable death. I was out of time.

A Look At The New Quantum Leap (REVIEW)…….

Theorizing that one could time travel within his own lifetime, Doctor Sam Beckett led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as "Quantum Leap". Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Beckett prematurely stepped into the Project Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own time was maintained through brainwave transmissions with Al, the Project Observer, who appears in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Beckett can see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, putting things right that once went wrong and hoping each time that his next leap, will be the leap home.

And it was with those words that tv viewers set off on a journey that spanned five years and saw many wrongs righted courtesy of the smart, charming, and big-hearted Dr. Sam Beckett.  Played by the immensely likable Scott Bakula, viewers found themselves captivated by the vast array of talents he displayed every week as he seamlessly morphed into each new character.  Jumping into the body of a woman, a disabled person, and a variety of ethnicities, it was easy to believe that Sam was exactly what others saw him to be.  Bakula inhabited each new character wholeheartedly, showing himself to be a man full of heart and soul.  While some episodes were pure fun, some conveyed a message that made for an even more satisfying episode, one that left viewers hopeful.

With the airing of the final episode "Mirror Image", it appeared that the journey of Sam Beckett was coming to an end but viewers were left a bit cheated, feeling conflicted by a storyline that left them with more questions than answers.  Dr. Beckett deserved better in my opinion (particularly with the misspelling of his name in a sentence that wrapped up his story before fading to black) and it was with great hope that his storyline would one day be truly resolved.....

It's been 30 years since the polarizing end to the original Quantum Leap and viewers have now been rewarded with a reboot of the series...and I'm once again conflicted by what's on the screen.  The doctor doing the leaping this time around is Ben Song, played by versatile actor Raymond Lee, who's earnest but doesn't have near the commanding presence of Scott Bakula.  Whereas the original show spent most of the episode in the time period leaped into, this show spends half its time in the current time period trying to determine what drove Ben to leaping in secret.  It's a distraction at times, and lessens the impact of what Ben is trying to accomplish for the person he's leaped into.  It gives an air of blandness to these early episodes and is something I hope is addressed.  Aiding the doctor this time around (again as a hologram) is Ben's co-worker and fiancée Addison, played by newcomer Caitlin Bassett.  In the original show the connection between Sam and Al was a true delight with witty banter and their obvious caring about each other.  Ben and Addison's connection feels flat in comparison, with no sizzle coming from this engaged couple.  Others looking into the secretive nature of Ben's leap are an eclectic collection of individuals with Herbert "Magic" Williams (played by Ernie Hudson of Ghostbusters fame) and Ian Wright (played by non-binary actor Mason Alexander Park) the standouts for me.  The mystery surrounding Ben's leap has loosely tied itself to the past by involving Al's daughter, but believe me when I say that I'd much rather have Sam Beckett be the connection as viewers need to have a more satisfying conclusion to Dr. Beckett's storyline.  There was real heart and soul in the original show which is missing here and is what's holding the show back.  Viewers need to feel invested, to care about the outcome of the leap, and I hope the writers start digging deeper to make us start caring...about the leap and the future of the show itself.  For now, I'm left a bit disappointed and definitely nostalgic for what could have been with this show.

My rating for this is a C-

EXCERPT:

“I am a First Warrior.” He stroked his animal fur, which she had successfully avoided looking at until now and pointed out a series of gleaming metal pins and buttons along the edge. “Each of these represents a successful campaign.”
Denara shuddered and turned back to the medicine cabinet, trying not to regard the dead animal. Lucius was moving before he was consciously aware of it. “Why do you do that?”
Suddenly he was very close; she could feel the heat radiating from him. He had moved so fast and silently that she had not heard him move. She spun around, backing up into the medication shelving, knocking several boxes to the floor. “Do what?” she stammered.

“Shudder and turn away? What displeases you so? I saw you do the same thing when you regarded me at the introduction social event.”
He was very, very close. She could sense his energy. It was distinctly feline - curiosity with a contained violence and ruthless intelligence. It was highly unusual, and nothing in all her years of experience had prepared her for the closeness of such a male. He seemed to suck up all the air in the room.
“Oh...it’s nothing.” He regarded her, his eyes deepening from their usual pale blue to a dark navy. She was transfixed at the sight. “Why do your eyes do that? Is it an evolutionary adaption? Or a deliberate genetic alteration?”
“Deliberate alteration. It allows us to see minute biochemical and heat changes, a useful enhancement for a warrior. It also allows me to see when you lie. I saw your displeasure at the first meet yesterday as well.” He cocked his head at her, studying her reactions, attempting to determine the source of her distress. The dark stranger within him was demanding that he find the source of the problem, kill it for her and lay it at her feet in tribute. “Something displeases you, Healer. Inform me of it, my lady, and I will remedy it immediately.”
“Could you, could you back up a bit please?” she gasped out, and he took two measured steps back, to place himself against the opposite wall, as far away as he could get in the small space.
“My apologies, I did not mean to frighten you. I observed you standing close to Odran yesterday and assumed it was acceptable in your culture. I would never touch you without your permission.” She detected a faint thread of hurt in his emotional resonance. “Or perhaps it is me you don’t wish to stand so close to.” He nodded, thoughtfully, examining her reactions in his mind. “Yes, that is it. It is I that distresses you. I shall remedy this by removing my presence.”

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As a fan of sci-fi stories I found myself drawn to this series starter and it’s steamy storyline of opposites attracting.  With its vivid depiction of other worlds, sci-fi readers will find a colorful and erotically-charged storyline between the pages, a storyline fueled by these two characters and the changes they undergo.

Sithe is a rather closed-off character at the start.  As part of a culture that values technologies, Sithe’s a closed-off assassin at the start, logical to a fault.  He eschews emotions but is very physical when it comes to his encounters with Catarine, which leads to some scorching encounters as his body undergoes changes courtesy of his new-found proximity to her.  Watching his cold exterior start to melt was entertaining to witness and added a decadently delightful layer to this story.  Catarine’s a unique heroine herself as she has a disease that drives her to the nearest male…that male being Sithe.  She has a disease that forces her to rely on her emotions rather than her mind which makes her an interesting counterpoint in this pairing, one that brings out a delightful other side to Sithe.

Theirs is a sizzling connection, one that plays out in the background of this storyline of action, suspense, and politics, a storyline that was never boring.  It kept me glued to the pages, intrigued by the ramifications of the disease Catarine carries, along with the introduction of a slew of secondary characters who have me excited for future installments.  These secondary characters ran the gamut of good, bad, and in-between, with each keeping me guessing and counting down the days until the next installment in this series hits bookshelves!

My rating for this is an A.

EXCERPT:

Oh no.
I’ve gone too far this time.
Way, way too far.
The foot soldier replaces his hood and turns.
The man stands and twitches his gray suit, resettling it over his broad, all-too-human back, tapered waist, muscular quads and calves. The cowl has fallen back, revealing black hair and pallid skin, and he pads silently across the blood-soaked carpet on gray boots. The black lining his fingernails could just be polish, the spikes on the backs of his ears a quirk of biology.
But the molecule-thin blades nested like a chevron tattoo at his wrists prove he is the deadliest member of the conquering race. A foot soldier, known as a blade, from the conquerors of Arris.
Why, if the Arrisans have huge lasers that can devastate planets, do they arm and train their foot soldiers to win a war single-handedly? Old joke. Because every part of Arris is terrifying.
And I have just sexually assaulted him.
I have assaulted him in the ship’s theater where we used to spread blankets and eat popcorn and pretend we were still on Humana, in a big science experiment together, one that would be over soon.
He presses the communication button.
The movie screen activates, and another brutal, pallid Arrisan fills the half dome. He leers over me.
Terror jolts into my bones. I scramble around the back of the captain’s chair.
“Spiderwasp in,” he barks. “We acknowledge your priority call. Intercept in two clegs. Prepare for the majesty of the High Command’s newest flagship, blade. Spiderwasp out.”
The screens go blank, and the orange blood sprays become more visible.
As do the ribbons of flesh beneath my bare feet.
I am crouched in someone’s entrails.
Silence cuts my ears with its sharpness. The stench of burnt oxygen and sour waste pierces my nostrils. The world fractures around me like peering through broken glass. Too sharp, too real.
His face is barely profiled in the cloaking shadow of the assassin’s cowl. The suit moves like a normal cloak, but a sheen of black underneath deflects light like spilled oil. He flexes his fingers. The curved blades emerge a fraction from his wrists. He fixes on me.
No.
I scoot around the captain’s chair, trying to make myself small.
Please, no.
Oh, please—
“What did the Eruvisans do to you?”
His voice is toneless and quiet.
Like a serial killer.
I want to look away, but I can’t in case that’s how I miss when I die. “Nothing. Everything. I don’t remember.”
The shadows where his eyes should be widen slightly. He thinks I’m tricking him. Like I would even know how.

Cloaked in assassin’s gray, metal scythes fused to his wrist-bones, he is the grim reaper of the conquerors. The Arrisan elite special forces. A blade.
Luckily for me, he’s in a good mood now that he’s the last man standing in the blood-soaked ruins of my bridge, so he lets me live. After all, I’m just a lesser. Clearly I’m no threat.
Until his body starts reacting to mine...

Jia grew up in an orphanage that turned children into master thieves and gave the school of hard knocks a run for its money. Jia’s psychic talents have kept her alive, but not out of trouble. While searching for her adopted brother, Jia finds herself on a galactic adventure with a horde of mischievous extra-terrestrial kids she’s determined to protect. Adding to the chaos is an Askole Battle Commander who claims she is his mate. How is that even possible? They’ve never met.
Trayon, the Battle Commander, is a deadly Askole. Huge. Battle hardened muscles. A regular warrior’s nightmare with black, armor-plated skin and tentacles. Who knew the scary guy was such an excellent kisser and had the heart of a romantic? All Jia ever wanted was a family of her own. Maybe an alien family wouldn’t be so bad.
To win Jia, Trayon must prove he loves her and she’s not some female the Coletti Overlord just sold him. But first, he has to keep the trouble magnet alive long enough to convince her.

EXCERPT:

“Why are there blood worms webbed to the walls and ceiling?"
The shock in Trayon’s voice would have been amusing in any other circumstance. I cracked open an eye.
“Whatever you do, don’t go in the bathroom."
“Why not?"
“Bath time got a little messy.” One look and he’d probably rescind the mating contract.
Trayon’s boots made an icky squishing noise as he walked across the room. I could feel his horror when he exclaimed, “A little messy?"
“I told you not to go in there."
“I have seen battle scenes with less blood,” Trayon groused.
“Did you know baby Tabors are taught how to program food replicators?” “I was not aware of that fact."
“I want to have a talk with whoever came up with that bright idea. The evil twins decided they wanted to sample blood worms while I was introducing the concept of a shower to Cason. Who, by the way, hates water. A lot."
“And?"
“LeeLee and LooLoo agreed blood worms taste nasty. I caught them doing a wonderful impression of Tarzan on crack as they webbed twelve dozen blood worms to every surface they could find."
“Who is this Tarzan?"
“A story for another time. The point is Adoz and Pepe joined in the fun too." I gestured around the room. “And wa-lah! Mass destruction.”

AUTHOR INFO:

I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for the Glendale Police Department and to keep from going totally bonkers – I mean people have no idea of what a real emergency is.
