“Stryker"
I’m a drifter.
A man born to ride through this world alone.
There used to be a time when I thought I was the rescuing type. I enlisted in the Marines and made it my duty—I was going to save lives.
I was going to be a true American hero.
But God had another plan.
Or maybe Satan did.
For everything I touch finds mortality.
I’m no hero.
I’m nothing.
I’m a veteran biker, a former nomad who survived war only to live in hell.
Now I ride with the Satan’s Knights of Brooklyn and I’m drifting into a different kind of chaos.
The kind that revolves around a pretty girl with intoxicating green eyes.
A girl who has the power to turn me inside out.
A girl who doesn’t need anyone to rescue her because she’s her own savior.
Until she’s not.
But a man plagued by war and the devil inside him can never be her hero.
Gina Spinelli
Strong. Independent. Fierce.
They are the three things I strived to be.
But sometimes being successful can be lonely.
Sometimes a girl just wants to be a girl and have someone take care of her.
Maybe even love her.
Sometimes the strong become vulnerable.
Or worse, the victor becomes the victim.
Sometimes we lose control or in my case it’s stripped from you.
Defeated. Broken. Haunted.
They are the three things I have become.
In my darkest hour I admit defeat.
In my darkest hour I need one person.
I need him.
Stryker.

EXCERPT:

"Five facts,” he starts, reciting the words I said to him before I pulled him into my apartment that first night. My lips part, nothing but a short breath escapes as he presses his index finger to my mouth, silencing me. His lips quirk, teasing me with that smile of his before he pulls his finger back and holds it in the air between us.
“One, I can’t get you out of my head,” he admits, raising another finger between us. “Two, I suck at this shit,” he sighs, cocking his head to the side as he assesses my reaction before continuing. “Three, I want more of you,” he rasps. “A whole lot more."
I swallow back the words I want to say and get lost in the way he stares at me.
“Four, I know you went to the Crazy Taco tonight hoping I’d be there because…pretty girl, you want more too, don’t you?"
He gives into the smirk as he closes the space separating us and holds up all five fingers again.
“Five, your panties are soaked,” he whispers, blowing his breath against my lips. He reaches out, winding his finger around the denim belt loop of my jeans and tugs me against his hard frame. “Your turn, pretty girl,” he says huskily. “Five facts."
Pressing both my palms against his chest, I push back and narrow my eyes at him.
“You want five facts, Stryker, fine. Here’s five hard facts. One, I’m not wearing panties,” I whisper through clenched teeth as I poke my finger into his chest. His cocky smirk disappears as his mouth parts and his eyes grow darker in color.
“Two, I’m over it. Three, you most definitely suck at this,” I add, rolling my eyes for extra emphasis as I dig my finger deeper into his chest. “Four, I did not go there because of you. I went there because I’m a sucker for a margarita. And finally--"
Before I can process what’s happening, my words die as Stryker throws his body over mine and we tumble onto the concrete.
“Get down on the double,” he shouts, laying his body over mine. Hitting the concrete face first and struggling to comprehend what was happening, I push myself up and glance over my shoulder to see Stryker reach for the gun tucked into the waistband of his jeans.
Pop, pop, pop!
“I’ve got you,” he rasps, cocking his gun and aiming it down the block.
“Stryker, no!” Pulling back I grip his shirt. “Stryker!"
Pop, pop, pop!
My pleas fall on deaf ears and I watch in horror as he pulls back the safety and aims the barrel of the gun toward the kids innocently shooting off caps on the corner of my block.
Pop, pop, pop!

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

From the very first page Ms. Bosco has woven a powerful and emotionally intense tale that fully immerses readers in a cocoon of painful pasts and hard-fought HEAs.  As a series starter it stands strongly on its own but doesn't ignore the world it's spun-off from as war is waging once again for Satan's Knights, only this time the villain is a more dangerous and complex threat to the Club as well as their Spinelli family allies.  As the war rages hotter more family gets caught in the crossfire in a story that kept me on a roller coaster ride full of gut-wrenching heartbreak along with moments showing the true power of love.

Stryker's a man carrying a whole lot of guilt, from acts of war he was forced to commit to familial abuse he couldn't rescue his mother from.  The pain of feeling as if he wasn't enough, the pain of being a sole survivor, finally put him on the road as a nomad in an attempt to run from that pain but instead it brought him to the Satan's Knights.  Standing as their Brother he's now traded one war for another while battling PTSD which Ms. Bosco doesn't sugarcoat in scenes that broke my heart.  At his lowest he wanted to end it all with readers witnessing his pain and desolation.  Into all this chaos though comes a woman who offers him a glimmer of hope, a woman who he's willing to try to save when she needs him most.  With her he finally gets to be a real hero...a hero who's just an average man who loves his woman wholeheartedly.  Stryker's a bit rough around the edges when readers first meet him, a man who's lost his way and finds only moments of happiness.  The moment he meets Gina though, he clearly comes alive.  With her he's playful and charming which leads to scorching encounters that soon had him coming back for more.  Their erotic encounters, and the beauty of living he sees in her eyes, has their bond intensifying as the story progresses.  His demons are never far behind though but after she's traumatized his understanding of what she's going through not only helps him heal but gives her something to believe in in a tear-inducing conclusion.

Gina's a strong-willed woman who's tried to leave her family's criminal past behind but with her brother ascending to the top she soon finds herself caught in the crosshairs.  Gina's got a head for making money in a man's world.  She's confident and enjoys beating the boys, making a comfortable life for herself even if it's a lonely one.  Meeting Stryker changes her life irrevocably as he challenges her.  Theirs is a combustible connection from the start with each trying to outdo the other in a game of pool that had me blushing.  Though their encounter was only supposed to be one night it soon led to more as they couldn't get enough of each other.  She's drawn to his strength at first but wants to heal the emotional wounds that keep him up at night as her heart soon gets involved.  When she becomes a victim of her brother's turf war it's her that needs saving from an event that's brutally yet realistically depicted.  It's an event that gave me chills and changed how Gina saw herself.  It broke her for awhile but Stryker's support never wavered as the fall-out from this event had big consequences by the end of the story, some good and some bad, but definitely unforgettable.

Ultimately it's the power of love that healed both Gina and Stryker, their unconditional support of each other brought each back from the brink even as it drove them every step of the way.  They may look to be opposites early on but it soon becomes clear that they need each other in a relationship that pulls at the heartstrings.  Though this book deals with its own issues, events from Eternal Temptations are intertwined into this story which allows characters from that book to show up here.  The Satan's Knights once again prove what being a Brother means in acts of solidarity that had me cheering.  These men may seem hardened but when any of their own are threatened they are there to help.  A few of the Brothers seen in the previous book got more face time here which allowed readers to really get to know them and their compelling personalities. From elder statesman Wolf with his humor and heartfelt honesty, to Cobra who's dealing with a love he can never forget and a sister who was stolen from him, these are characters that left an indelible mark.  There's also the truly broken Pipe who's running from his own pain to former sexy playboy Linc whose entire life was stolen when a bomb exploded and it's their stories that I'm most excited for.  I also find myself obsessed with new Mob leader, Rocco Spinelli, who seems in over his head and desperate to find people he can trust.  It all made for an enthralling and gritty masterpiece that I wholeheartedly recommend!  The men in this world made be flawed and a bit rough around the edges, but when it comes to those they love they're the quintessential definition of hero in a story that left me exhausted but fulfilled.  With its heart pounding action, scorching sexual interludes, and a second epilogue that will leave readers reeling, this was the perfect start to a series that already has a permanent place on my bookshelf.

My rating for this is an A+
