EXCERPT:

“Those lips,” I said, the words slipping off my tongue.
“Excuse me?”
His question broke my trance. “Oh, Lord. I’m sorry I—”
“Wait. You feel it, too, don’t you?”
I hesitated then nodded.
Max leaned toward me. “You know, I’ve been trying to get a read on you tonight, but I’m pretty rusty at all this.”
“Let’s get one thing straight, Max. There’s nothing about you that’s rusty.”
A smile quirked at the corner of his mouth. “The word means nothing to you because you’re young and beautiful.”
I crossed my arms over my chest. “You really think a lot about this age thing, don’t you?”
He sighed. “I’m thirty-one, Goldie.”
“Well, lucky for you my ceiling’s a good thirty-three.”
He bit back a smile, his eyes growing softer, warmer. “I like you, Goldie.”
“I like you, too, Max.”
“I really want to kiss you.”
“So, what’s stopping you?”
“The very real possibility I won’t be able to stop,” he said with a reverent tone.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Readers looking for an exhilarating read with a bit of romance, and a lot of suspense, will get all that and more with this latest installment in the Bluegrass Bravery series. Though this is the 16th book in the series it stands strongly on its own courtesy of a strong main couple whose connection was both sensual and supportive in their goal of finding justice.  Based loosely on a real crime (one detailed at the beginning) the lives of the main couple become intertwined in a captivating tale that will keep you guessing until the very end, holding on for dear life with each turn of the page.

Michael Edwards has been recently promoted and it has him out to prove himself.  He's a determined man, competent and caring, out to protect the people of his community.  He finds himself distracted though with the department's new hire, Samara Futrell, a detective dealing with cold cases with a background weighed down by her own past assault.  She's a wonderful heroine, one who's tougher than you expect and whose background helps her bond with a slew of others recently assaulted as she sets out to discover whodunit.  This pair had an instant attraction and perfectly balanced their burgeoning romance with gathering evidence and trying to stay one step ahead of the culprit as danger crept ever closer to Samara.  It's a mystery that was well-crafted, the culprit being someone who poses a real threat to both Samara and Michael, and I was on the edge of my seat from the moment the culprit was revealed to the moment they were captured.  This exhilarating mystery brought this couple closer together, bound them emotionally and through their goal of bringing this evil to an end.  Theirs was a journey full of action and suspense, a love full of heart and soul, and a storyline that balanced all of that beautifully in a story that I definitely recommend.

My rating for this is an A.

~
It’s not the first time I’ve been called a stalker.
I can’t blame Andrew Christiansen for thinking that since we keep crossing paths, especially when I pop up in the most unexpected of places—his office.
We’re opposites in every way. Not the kind that attract.
I’ve been called a ray of sunshine. He’s been called a grumpy workaholic that needs an attitude adjustment. By me.
Somehow, we become friends, the teasing, flirting, and kissing kind. But this thing blooming between us threatens to turn this relationship from friends-to-lovers into a full-blown office romance.
That’s the least of my worries because one or two, little, okay big, secrets I’ve been keeping may turn him from the one I want into the one I can’t have.

Book Blitz for Pour Attitude by P.J. DeVere (GIVEAWAY)......

A woman wanting to break free of the chaos of her life finds herself mixing business with pleasure after hiring a sexy bartender in this sizzling story.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Pour Attitude by P.J. DeVere, then learn even more about this book by visiting the other sites hosting this tour.  You'll also learn more about this book through a Q&A with the author.  In honor of this third installment in The Starkford series make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a $25 bookstore GC too!

LET'S GET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT MS. DEVERE....
TSP:  Knowing what you do now about the publishing business, would you have done anything different career-wise?
PJD:  Yes! A thousand times yes! Since publishing my first book, I have consumed many book marketing podcasts, read hundreds of articles, and attended book conferences. I had no idea how much I didn’t know. My advice to new authors is to take the time to seek out these resources before hitting the publish button. Luckily, I didn’t have to backtrack too much, but knowing how to set up the business on the first go-round is much easier than having to undo and redo it.
TSP:  Beyond its synopsis, what do you want us to know about Pour Attitude?
PJD:  Madeline Everly (Mads) is who I want to be when I grow up. She is a direct, no nonsense woman who does not take any crap off anyone, and I love her for it. Besides her boldness, she has a wild and free spirit. She has a perspective about life that most people are missing. She sees the importance of things the rest of us overlook, and she is passionate about what she wants.
TSP:  Of all the heroes you've written, who's the most heroic in your opinion?
PJD:  Henry Butler is a side character, but he is everything. He is Patrick and Jameson Butler’s father, and he becomes a father figure to most of my characters.
We learn that his wife left him with their twin sons when the boys were only two years old, and he raised them by himself. There is a story in Pour Choices where Patrick tells Dawson how he got in trouble for fighting at a young age as a result of him telling everyone his mother was dead and the other children calling him out on the lie. Patrick told her that instead of reprimanding him for lying, Henry packed them up and moved to Starkford so the boys could have a fresh start outside of their mother’s bad decisions.
Henry is slow to anger and even slower to judge, but he fiercely protects who he loves. He is my favorite hero.
TSP:  How has the digital revolution affected your career and how you market yourself? Do you have an eReader yourself?
PJD:  I have always produced eBooks and paperbacks, and I market both with a stronger focus on the eBook.
I have an eReader, and I prefer to read eBooks. With an eBook, no one can really tell what you’re doing unless they peek over your shoulder. When I’m waiting around at court, I can look like I’m reading an email or two when I’m really halfway through reading a sex scene so hot I have to be sure my eyeballs don’t pop out of my head.
The majority of romance readers prefer eBooks, and it’s probably because of the voraciousness in which we read. Our houses aren’t big enough to hold all the books we go through!
TSP:  My site's all about favorite things, so what are your favorite things/the things you can't live without?
PJD:  Books! I love to get lost in a good romance, and I don’t think I could live without them. I’m also a sucker for any comfort item: cozy pajamas, a bath pillow, blankets with a pocket for my feet, etc. Other than that, I’d have to say my passport. My husband and I love to go on adventures. Even though this pandemic has grounded us for a while, we have lots and lots of plans for future travels!

Madeline Everly wants to climb her muscular bartender like a mountain, but he seems opposed to the idea. After she starts working alongside him behind the bar, will he finally give into her?
When Madeline’s misogynistic boss, overbearing mother, and grudge holding sister become too much to bear, it’s time to let off a little steam. Mads has a wild streak, and she doesn’t apologize for it. She likes men, and she has her sights set on one in particular—Exel Kinley. If she can check him off her to-do list, maybe he won’t take up so much room in her head. As nothing in her life has ever been permanent, Mads has no problems going through men like she goes through gin and tonics at happy hour. Can she have the adventure she wants and the pleasure she craves, all from the same man?

EXCERPT:

Nate comes through the door next, but I’m the only one who notices. Everyone else is gathered around Bridget and Brynn, so I walk over to greet him.
“I didn’t think you’d show when we invited you, but I’m glad you came."
He wiggles his eyebrows at me as he opens his jacket to show the flask sticking out the top of the inside pocket. “I brought reinforcements."
I squeal in excitement like Brynn would before putting a hand on each side of his face. I bring him down to me and give him a playful kiss, right on the lips. “You are a good man!"
I notice his expression changes after what I thought was an innocent smooch. He makes a point to lick his lips. With a hand grabbing my hip, he brings his head down to whisper in my ear, “You have no idea how good I can be."
My eyes widen in shock. Where the hell did that come from? We’ve always played around, but the look in Nate’s eyes seems serious.

Book Cover Reveal for FLOW by Liz Crowe.......

It's a blast from the past as second chances are given when a woman is reintroduced to her unrequited high school crush...a man who wants a do-over for the hurt he caused her long ago in a sizzling connection that has them waging battles on the ice and off.  Keep reading to get a tempting glimpse of FLOW by Liz Crowe, then start counting down the days until this second installment in the Detroit Sports Network hits bookshelves on December 18th too!

When Emerson Tyler’s unrequited high school crush crashed into her first group meeting of the DSN’s social media department, it was strange to say the least. When she learned that her crush wasn't as “unrequited” as she’d always believed, things got even stranger.
She'd sworn on the day Bryce Nordlinger crushed her teenaged heart--not to mention ruined her reputation in order to save his lady-killer status--that she would never trust him or any man ever again. And she had no intention of breaking that oath, no matter how much more tempting he’d become as a grown up NHL star.
Bryce had always wanted Em to be more than the smart, snarky high school girl who helped him with his terrible English essays. But he’d been busy burnishing his rep as future jock stud, and when his fellow hockey bros caught him skating with her alone in a deserted rink, he’d chosen the easiest path--one that left her hurt in a way he never thought he’d be able to heal.
His complete shock at seeing her, all grown up and more beautiful than ever in the meeting room at DSN, morphed into a steel-plated resolve. He would win her back and make up for the mess he’d made of her high school senior year, while dragging the once-proud Detroit hockey program out of the dumpster fire and back to prominence at the same time.

EXCERPT:

"It has everything to do with us,” she burst out indignantly. “I don't even know what the hell I am doing with you. Every fiber in my body is telling me to run as far away from you as humanly possible. You say and do these nice things but in the back of my mind, I’m wondering if this is all some type of game to you. You have a track record of being a man-whore and if I let myself fall for you then I’ll end up hurt or worse. Soon there might be a video of me doing god knows what plastered all over the internet for the world to see.”
Liam was hurt by her words. “A man-whore? Is that what you think of me?”
"A spade is a spade, Liam.”
He bit his bottom lip and gripped the steering wheel trying to contain his anger. Man-whore. He gathered his thoughts. “Okay, maybe I had been a man-whore in the past and banged a bunch of women that I didn't know their names. Yes, I acted immature and childish with my friends sending videos and pictures of my conquests but since I’ve met you I haven't been that person. Since I met you, I haven't wanted to be that person. I like waking up in the morning knowing where I am and not feeling like the scum of the Earth because I lied and degraded some poor girl I’ll never see again. This is not a game for me. You are not a game to me. I like you. I want to get to know you. I am taking you out on a date. I haven't been on a date or even kissed a girl in over two years so that should tell you that this isn't game. The day I met you, I had an opportunity to have a threesome with identical twins, but it was something about you that made me not want to go through with it. What I am trying to say is I would rather have blue balls and be with you than to bag a different woman every night."

Book Tour for My Bestie’s Ex by Piper Rayne (REVIEW)

A young woman leaves the big city to start over in a small town as the roommate of an old friend and finds unexpected love (with lots of complications) with a man who has a past connection with her new roomie.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of My Bestie’s Ex by Piper Rayne, along with my impressions of this contemporary romance, then add this first installment in The Rooftop Crew to your bookshelf!

I can’t borrow him.
He’s not a sweater or a skirt.
He’s not even her favorite dress—the lucky one she wears on first dates. The one she probably wore on her first date with him.
In my defense, I didn’t know who he was. To me, he was a cool, calm, confident stranger. He was perfection for the entire hour and a half train ride while the concrete jungle turned into a rolling green landscape.
To an outsider, we probably appeared more friends than hopeful lovers. But my blush came quickly, and his dimples indented with every smile. We definitely shared a spark of what could be.
Too bad I didn’t know who he was before I fell for him, because he can’t be mine.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Meeting The Rooftop Crew was like meeting my own set of friends as they’re a colorful and tight-knit group who’ve recently added one new member to their crew as a young woman decides to start over with a new job and a new place to live.  She also starts off with an unexpected romance with the stranger she met on the train and who has a surprising past with her roommate that leads to all sorts of complications and hard truths.

Readers got to know a bit about Blanca Mancini when Ms. Rayne shared her three brother’s stories in a previous trilogy that charmed readers and showed the close connection these siblings have.  While Blanca loves her family and appreciates their protectiveness, she’s ready to go out on her own.  After quitting her job it’s a fortuitous meeting with her one—time friend that has her moving into the apartment complex inhabited by The Rooftop Crew which brings her new friends and a support system that feels like family.  It also brings her a bit of heartache once she discovers that her new love is the ex-boyfriend of her roommate which has her making a difficult and frustrating decision.  Blanca’s an immensely appealing heroine with a big heart.  Her and her friend pick up right where they left off all those years ago and I admired how good of a friend she was when her heart was put on the line.  She’s a smart and sassy heroine, giving as good as she got, and I enjoyed the fun and flirty interactions between her and Ethan.  She and Ethan were crackling together and though they came from very different families they felt perfect together.  Throughout most of the story they put a smile on my face but a small hiccup late in the story had me wanting to scream but happy that things were resolved quickly.

Ethan had a rough childhood, one where he ended up being the man of the house at an early age and sacrificing much for his sister, while his mother worked endlessly and his father drank.  He’s risen above all that though, ready to leave his mark on the world, and is a bit embarrassed by his past which he keeps hidden.  It makes him seem closed-off when it comes to getting closer to others and doomed his previous relationship with Sierra.  Blanca’s different though and from the moment they meet there’s a definite sizzle.  Fun and flirty interactions soon lead to more as they both start envisioning a future together...at least until his true identity comes out and Sierra offers an ultimatum.  Ethan’s a true charmer, a great cook and kisser, who’s quick to form connections with his fellow train passengers.  He’s funny but clearly has anger over his father’s past actions and current prognosis and I just wanted to hug him.  When it came time to fight for Blanca he did just that in scenes where he endeared himself to her brothers while finally dealing with Sierra once and for all after her constant trash talk of him.  He manned-up and it had me cheering him on every step of the way.

This was a quick and entertaining romance of coworkers who take a crackling journey to HEA.  Their interactions put a smile on my face while providing a blush or two along the way courtesy of Ethan’s shameless flirtations.  Add in the complication of his and Sierra’s past and readers will find bits of frustration here too that put Sierra in a bad light in my opinion.  Along with a likable main couple who are delightful together, with a romance worth fighting for, comes an equally memorable cast of secondary characters.  First up are Blanca’s brothers whose stories were told in The White Collar Brothers series where readers first fell in love with them and I enjoyed getting an update on each as they were all still in love with their well-matched heroines. When it came to The Rooftop Crew I found myself drawn to almost all of them.  I could see myself in good girl Rian and am hoping that bad boy Dylan notices her obvious feelings for him soon.  Then there’s bagel boy Seth and his war with another bagel maker that I hope to see play out soon.  Add in police officer Knox, who’s quietly commanding, and I have yet another reason to look forward to the future.  The one weak link for me was Sierra.  I found her a bit manipulative when it came to Blanca trying to be a good friend and as she tried to look like a victim with her feelings of abandonment that have her flitting from one guy to another. When it came to Ethan she made him out to be the bad guy when it was her who was equally at fault.  Her obsession with a foreign prince feels a bit over-the-top too but it fuels the next book in this series and is definitely a unique set-up for romance.  Readers looking for witty banter and sweet and sensual encounters will want to grab this series as The Rooftop Crew starts to feel more like family.

My rating for this is a B+

Smith left them, and Cash glared at Smith’s back until he disappeared into the office. “I hate that guy.”
“I think the feeling is mutual.” Jordan wondered why.
“Has he been bothering you?” The look in Cash’s dark-green eyes warned her the man spoiled for a fight.
“Nope. He’s easy to get along with.”
Cash seemed disappointed. “Oh.”
“And he rarely talks. We got the Jasper job done in one day. Would have been back sooner, but traffic sucked.”
He let out a long sigh. “So what’s this favor I ‘owe you’?”
“I need you to talk to my brother.” The admission she couldn’t handle her own family felt easier while looking at his chest.
“Your brother?”
She glanced up, saw his interest, the way it lit up his face, and did her best not to stare at his firm, kissable lips. Damn it. She needed to focus on the man’s irritability, not his sex appeal.
Jordan swallowed. “How about I tell you about it over dinner tonight? And before you get any weird ideas, this is in no way a date. I do not want to have sex with you. I am not flirting or leading you on in any way. This is strictly to help my brother.”
He just stared at her. Unfortunately, behind him, Reid and Smith stared at her as well.
She felt her cheeks heat and wished she could sink through the floor.
“Man, I heard that,” Smith just had to say. “She in no way, shape, or form wants you, Cash. Not fucking at all.” Smith laughed as he walked away. His shouted “Rejected,” followed by more laughter, boomed down the corridor.
“Please tell me I can hit him,” he said to Reid.
“No. But I’m curious to hear why Jordan thinks she has to have this conversation with you,” Reid said. Jordan privately thought of him as Cash-Light. He had the same good looks but not as concentrated. Reid had a more slender build than his bulky older brother, and he had gray eyes. Not the mysterious, deep green of Cash’s. The debonair Griffith as opposed to Cash’s raw, wild bad boy.
“I’m not harassing her. Jesus, Reid.” Cash ran a hand through his hair, which caused his massive biceps to bulge. “Tell him, Jordan.”
A sucker for a pretty body more than a pretty face, Jordan felt every time she looked at Cash as if she’d been hit by a two-by-four because he possessed both. She nodded, distracted, wondering how much he could really bench-press.
“He is harassing you?” Reid asked, frowning.
“What? No, not at all.” She felt like a moron and forced herself to meet Reid’s concerned gaze. “Sorry. I meant I agreed with Cash. He’s fine. I just wanted to make sure my offer of dinner wasn’t confusing.” She wryly added, “You know your brother does better when things are laid out on the table.”
“True. Subtle he is not.”
“I’m right here,” Cash growled.
They both ignored him. “So you’re good then?” Reid asked her.
“Dandy.”
“Great. I’ll see you tomorrow. Cash, I’ll be—“
“At Naomi’s. Shocker.” Cash shrugged, but Jordan had a sense his brother’s new relationship bothered him.
Reid didn’t seem to notice. “Have a good night, you two.” He started down the corridor. “Oh, and Cash, close up for me, would you?” Reid didn’t wait for his answer as he disappeared into the stairway.
“Why not? Not like I have a life or anything,” Cash muttered as he walked into the office. “Well? You coming?”
Jordan hurried after him and helped him turn everything off and lock up. They walked down the stairs and exited the building to the parking lot. She took a moment to watch the sun hide behind some purple clouds. Orange rays penetrated the sky-blue horizon and dotted through indigo and pink clouds, painting a picture. She wished she could bask in the moment, letting go of the worries dragging her down.
But Rafi hadn’t been around for breakfast this morning, and she knew he’d avoided her on purpose. Between yesterday’s conversation and the call she’d earlier received from his school advisor, she’d come to the end of her rope. And the timing couldn’t have been better, with her brother spending the next few days at their parents’ for a change.
Cash stopped at his car and turned to her. “Your place for dinner, you said?”
“Yes. Follow me. It’s a ten-minute drive. I’ll text you the address in case you get lost.” She sent it to him before getting into her car.
He followed without too much of a hassle since the hour had passed six. Once at her place, she parked and waited for him. The apartment complex didn’t look like much on the outside, but she had a furnished, one-bedroom unit for under a thousand in rent, and the landlord seemed like a nice lady. Since Jordan was ex-military, the woman had foregone the $200 nonrefundable cleaning fee and full rental deposit.
After letting them both in, Jordan took a glance around. The addition of Rafi to her tiny apartment made life cramped, but Jordan had lived under worse conditions. The place was clean, fitted out, and, if not to her taste, at least nothing to be embarrassed about. Yet she felt a case of nerves as Cash shadowed her, his large presence impossible to ignore.
