Book Tour for Spirit of the Revolution by Debbie Peterson (Review & GIVEAWAY)

Today I'm hosting an author that's new to me, but considering my enjoyment of her story I'll definitely have her visiting my site again in the future.  So keep reading to get a taste of Spirit of the Revolution by Debbie Peterson, an intriguing paranormal read with of bit of a time-travel twist.  Make sure to leave a comment for your chance to win jewelry and a book (if you're a US resident)......

Only divine intervention could have guided Jolena Leigh Michaelsson to the doorstep of a ramshackle manor in Pennsylvania, bringing her face-to-face with the man she has waited her whole life to find. There is just one problem. Mathias McGregor died two centuries ago…
Mathias, Revolutionary War ranger and spy, battles his conscience and his heart when he finds himself falling for the beautiful violinist invading his home. Jolena is mortal and deserves far more than what he as a spirit can offer her.
When Jolena’s family motto leads them to unearth a valuable coded message—the very message Mathias died trying to deliver to General Washington—Jolena vows to unravel the mystery surrounding the cryptic document. But someone else wants the message, and he’ll stop at nothing to get it, not even murder.
Divine intervention brought them together—will it also allow them to find forever?

EXCERPT:

“The inspiration arose from the pictures you left with me. I think it obvious from those pictures, you and these fine gentlemen share a great and unique friendship,” Brady said, pointing to Sam and William, then Alexander and Jedediah in turn.
“And I found it equally obvious that a very deep love exists between you and our ‘Mathias’ character, though you failed to mention that fact. So, in spite of our first conversation, I found I couldn’t paint this picture without all of you in it, no matter how hard I tried. Thus, this image was born and I just had to paint it.”
In response to his observations, Jo found herself gazing objectively at the couple in Brady’s painting. They did look very much in love with each other. But, surely, she didn’t feel— No, she couldn’t possibly have fallen in love with a—at least not in the sense that he—did she?
Of course, you love him, her heart shouted as if demanding a say in the matter. You know you do—and you’ve known it for a long while now. She found it difficult to swallow past the lump in her throat as the absolute knowledge filled and then like a raging fire, totally consumed her.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Debbie Peterson has written an extremely heart-wrenching story featuring men from Revolutionary times who are killed while conducting a mysterious mission.  It's a mission that's still important today and must be solved for them to find peace.  This story combines not only a sweetly satisfying romance but a bit of mystery amongst this life and death theme.

Mathias and his Rangers were a formidable foe who were ambushed and killed while conducting a mission for General Washington.  The mission was so important it's kept their souls here on Earth.  For centuries they've kept other people away from their home but Jonella is welcomed with open arms.  Jonella is hardworking, smart, and open-minded and accepts their presence with ease.  She's immediately drawn to the charming Mathias but it's only through dreams that they can truly be together.  This leads to a slowly burning and evolving relationship that you can't help but root for as you anxiously await Ms. Peterson's cleverly written and memorable HEA.  Mathias is a charming man, undead soul or not, and he and his men become very protective of her.  The other Ranger's protectiveness comes from a sense of brotherly affection instead of Mathias' romantic notions.  Each Ranger is unique in their own way and I enjoyed getting to know them through the authors vivid descriptions.

Along with vivid and memorable characters comes an intriguing mystery revolving around the Ranger's final mission which incorporates the past with the present in scenes that are a bit dry and too drawn-out at times.  Ms. Peterson keeps the action chugging along though in a story that's best enjoyed through a suspension of belief and lots of faith in HEAs as the author has to dig deep into her bag of magic tricks to pull off the immensely satisfying conclusion.  With my enjoyment of this story comes a desire to read more of Ms. Peterson's works which I feel you'll agree with after reaching the final page of this emotionally heart-wrenching story.

My rating for this is a B+

*I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

AUTHOR INFO:

Debbie has always had a soft spot for fairy tales, the joy of falling in love, and happily ever after endings. Stories of love and make believe filled her head for as long as she can remember. However, it was her beloved husband who encouraged, cajoled and inspired her to take up a pen and write some of them down.
Her journey to published author could fill quite a few pages, but in June of 2010, she submitted her debut novel, “Spirit of the Rebellion” to her wonderful, patient, editor at The Wild Rose Press. A few short months after Rebellion’s release, her second novel, “Shadow of the Witte Wieven” was published through InkSpell Publishing. Her third novel, “Spirit of the Revolution” will be released May 31, 2013, through The Wild Rose Press.
When she’s not busy conjuring her latest novel, Debbie spends time with the members of her very large family. She also pursues her interests in family history, mythology, and all things ancient and historic.
