Demons.
They’re everywhere, hiding in plain sight. Chances are, you’ve interacted with one or two of them in your lifetime without even realizing it...
Demon hunter Evelyn Brighton saves unsuspecting humans from the malevolent creatures masquerading around them every day. Working under the Lebriga Corporation’s direction, she never fails to bring her A-game with her keen skill, fiercely independent spirit, and the best weapon in her arsenal: the Divinity blade.
Evelyn’s world is turned on its ear, however, when she is ordered to train cocky new recruit Daniel Summers. They both feel an instinctive pull drawing them to one another, the ancient spells tattooed into their skin illuminating whenever the two hunters come into contact. But with evil looming over the city of Los Angeles, Evelyn and Daniel’s mutual competitiveness and sense of duty to Lebriga and all humankind forces them to hold back their desires. Will their restraint be enough to keep them focused and save southern California, or will the dark forces prevail?
Set in modern-day Los Angeles, Divinity is an action-filled, fast-paced marriage of urban fantasy and paranormal romance. Edgy, witty, and sexy, it will bind you in its spell.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Those wanting a fast-paced exhilarating read will find that and more in this compelling paranormal story with immensely likable characters and room for even more entertaining stories in the future.  Throughout the centuries the angel Gabriel has created his own elite army of demon hunters to battle against a hodgepodge of nightmare-inducing creatures with plans to wipe out humanity.  These hunters are imbued with quick-healing abilities, tattoos that enhance their incantations, and long-life which makes for a colorful group of individuals that don't interact with the regular population.  They've set themselves apart into a lonely existence that has them relying on each other for comfort and understanding amidst this non-stop battle that can bring death in the blink of an eye,

As one of the oldest hunters, Evelyn is extremely powerful with a deep confidence in her abilities.  She's an expert at many things except when it comes to emotions and love which makes her interactions with newbie hunter Daniel complicated.  She's been around for so long that she's forgotten her true self and therefore doesn't trust the intense emotions Daniel brings out in her.  She's seen other hunters collapse after losing their loves and fears that happening to her.  Fate has other plans, as does the prophetic mark on her neck, and it's soon apparent that her and Daniel work better together than apart.  With an extremely deadly enemy on the loose they'll need all the power they can get when all the hunters come together in a pulse-pounding conclusion that kept me on the edge of my seat.  From start to finish I found myself delighted by Evelyn's words and deeds.  She was snarky yet showed a softer side that caught even her by surprise.  She fought her emotions every step of the way yet still showed a girly-side of delight when gazing longingly at Daniel.  She was a wonderful heroine that every woman can look up to.

Daniel is new to the team and desperate to prove himself.  He's at first intimidated by Evelyn who shows him repeatedly he has a lot to learn, but he slowly becomes more drawn to her and sets out to woo the hard-hearted hunter.  He slowly demonstrates that he's more powerful than he looks in some pulse-pounding fight scenes early on that show him to be protective of Evelyn and willing to put his life on the line to keep her safe.  Their relationship evolves slowly from battling schoolchildren who provoke each other constantly to the slow burn of sexual tension that has him showing his charming and sexy side.  Throughout the story I found Daniel to be an endearingly lovable character that is just what Evelyn needed to bring her out of her self-imposed shell of isolation and loneliness to a happy and smiling, yet still badass, warrior.

This was a thrilling story with a clever premise that leaves lots of room for more stories in the future.  These hunters and their handlers are a colorful cast of characters who are both strong in spirit and heart and their family-like interactions were funny and heartwarming and had me wishing for them to stay safe during each of the bloody and dangerous battles they undertook.  Ms. Leever has created a compelling storyline with likable characters and a vividly depicted paranormal world that has me wanting to come back for more and hoping that the author revisits this dangerously entertaining world soon.

My rating for this is an A-
