Book Tour for Alpha, Delta by RJ Scott (Review)

As a fan of the m/m genre I'm excited to introduce you to this action-packed and suspenseful read where love and lives are on the line.  Keep reading to get a brief glimpse of Alpha, Delta by RJ Scott, along with my impressions of it, and then add it to your bookshelf......

Officer Finn Hallan has never run from a fight. With Niall’s life and love at stake, he’s not about to start now…
Finn Hallan is a member of the elite Norwegian Emergency Response Unit, code name Delta. When the team is sent to respond to a hostage situation on an oil platform in the Norwegian Sea, he has to face demons he thought he had buried a long time ago.
Scottish engineer Niall Faulkner’s skills in oil platform decommissioning takes him to the Forseti platform at the worst possible time. When he’s captured by terrorists, his only thought is that he will never get to tell his lover how he really feels.
Can Finn keep Niall alive? Or will they both die at the hands of hijackers in the frigid waters of the Norwegian Sea?

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

With novellas it's sometimes hard not to feel short changed by the small word count and the balancing of the story's themes.  That's not a concern here as Ms. Scott has crafted a short read long on entertainment, suspense, and romance. From the first page to the last I found myself fully immersed in this tale featuring two very different men fighting for their lives and their love.  Ultimately, with a very outspoken secondary character who fascinated me, I'd love to return to this world and see their relationship continue to strengthen.

Finn is a rugged guy that puts his life on the line everyday.  He's the best of the best and lives life to the fullest.  When it comes to sex though he's a love 'em and leave 'em kind of guy as he doesn't want to put others in jeopardy by being with him.  At least he was until he laid eyes on nerdy scientist Niall in a moment marked by crackling chemistry.  He left Finn thinking thoughts and feeling emotions he never felt before and led to distractions that could get both of them killed when a madman from Finn's past comes back to end their relationship before it's barely begun.  Finn is a strong-willed man who goes after what he wants.  He's not the kind of guy good with romantic words but his actions clearly bespeak his burgeoning feelings for Niall.

Niall is devoted to his work leaving little time for fun and relaxation.  Though he too is drawn to Finn immediately his low self-confidence has him doubting what they could have.  Finn brings out a strong and sure side to Niall which has him going after Finn wholeheartedly and taking heroic steps when facing down danger.  I enjoyed Niall's nerdy nature and charming awkwardness and seeing him grow stronger and going after what he wants was inspiring.

This was a fast-paced story that nicely balanced action and romance while letting Niall and Finn grow as individuals and as a couple in a believable way.  Their romance was sweet yet sexy with their sexual interludes steamy and intensely emotional yet playful.  Alongside them was a small cast of secondary characters that were memorable and supportive to their relationship.  Ewan, Niall's younger brother, was encouraging and caring and their banter was delightfully playful and heartwarming.  Finn's teammate Erik was just as much of a badass, sexy, charming and very sure of himself.  He's also funny with hints of being a player, but his presence still brought a smile to my face and I'd love to see more of him in the future.  Along with a wonderful romance was suspense that was nicely woven into the story.  These action scenes were vividly detailed and pulse-pounding and kept me on the edge of my seat as Finn and Niall looked death in the face.  Overall this was an immensely satisfying story on every level, all the more impressive as this story was only around 90 pages.  I've not read many works from this author but the talent displayed here has me clamoring for more in the future.

My rating for this is an A-

*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.
