Perfect. Flawless. Undeniable.
Falling in love with a man half my age changed my life.
Chase makes everything easier, brighter, better.
Together, we can conquer anything.
Until Daniel comes back.
At first it seems seamless.
But nothing is easy when you love two men.
Two incredible men.
I would die for him,
Will love him until my final breath.
After all, he is my son, my one and only,
Even if I want to wring his neck.
Where I see perfection, he only sees complications,
Of loving Chase.
He doesn’t understand – can’t understand.
It drives a wedge between us and into my heart.
How can I create harmony among two grown men,
When one of them is acting like a baby?

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

At the end of Ms. Dahlia's Legal, things seemed perfect for Chase and Jill as she came to accept their age difference with everything prettily wrapped up with a bow.  There was a true sense of HEA when I turned the final page, which is why I was surprised to see this sequel.  This sequel reunites us with the May-December couple as they struggle to stay committed to each other despite outside forces trying to pull them apart.  These forces are courtesy of Jill's son Daniel, her ex-husband Mike, along with Chase's vindictive co-worker Cassie who all took this romance into melodramatic territory.

At the start of the story Jill seems fully committed to Chase, happy and satiated in their relationship.  With Daniel soon coming home though she starts stressing out and reviving fears that don't truly exist.  Daniel at first seems fine with Chase, but Jill keeps waiting for a problem to arise instead of just being happy. Her interactions with Daniel further frustrated me by her coddling of him and by letting his feelings rule her time with Chase, instead of standing up for what's in her heart.  When Daniel's relationship with Cassie further taints Jill's connection to Chase she again doesn't stand up for her love which takes her and Chase to the edge and left me deeply disappointed in her.  She may seem okay with their age difference early on but there's evidence to the contrary as she again employs toxic chemicals to make her look younger with pain, twisted humor, and embarrassment the result.  Though he's never given her reason to doubt him, she does have a moment of hesitation whenever he's in the company of younger women that ultimately ruined the warm fuzzies I had before starting this story.

Chase is fully committed to Jill at the start of this story, wanting to make things permanent between them.  Though he'd love to have a child with her, he's more committed to having her more than anything else.  His love and devotion to her is clear from the start which makes him the quintessential book boyfriend in my mind.  In their erotic encounters he worships her body and takes away any doubts she may have regarding age and looks with a single scorching sentence. He allows himself to be set aside so she can devote time to her son and never pushes to be accepted by the young man, instead he lets his actions define who he is.  He's a delicious hero with a heart of gold he wears on his sleeve, always reassuring her and believing her when a nefarious act casts her commitment in doubt.  He's there for her when she needs care and support and is the highlight of this story who doesn't get a heroine worthy of him until the very end.

From start to finish this was an engaging story despite my frustrations.  My favorite parts of the story involved the delicious Chase and Jill's friend and soon-to-be sister-in-law Perry, whose antics always put a smile on my face.  Chase was a worthy hero who could do no wrong in my eyes and defended Jill and their love at every turn.  Perry was a supportive friend who was a cheerleader for them every step of the way as well as pointing out the truth about Cassie early on.  Balanced with these highs are the lows of Daniel, and his childish and manipulative behavior, along with Cassie's nefarious machinations.  Daniel was judgmental and a bit sanctimonius, making Jill choose between her love for him and for Chase.  Cassie's the most grating part of this story for me as her actions became truly twisted.  From using Daniel to trying to blackmail Jill, her misdeeds became over-the-top and turned this tale into a soap opera.  Just as quickly as she came on the scene, she ultimately exited which left me unsatisfied as she deserved a heartier comeuppance.  On a whole, while I was left cheering by the end of the idyllic epilogue, the journey to get there had me undergoing a gamut of emotions.  I was often frustrated, charmed a time or two, but ultimately I was won over by the unwavering love Chase felt for Jill and am immensely satisfied where they are by the final page...and hope it's a truly HEA for them this time around.

My rating for this is a B-

AUTHOR INFO:

Bree Dahlia is an unconventional romance junkie. She loves reading it but adores writing it even more. Her stories range from lighthearted to sizzling with that satisfying Happily Ever After ending and a touch of the unexpected. She favors themes of friendship, forgiveness, and unconditional love with alpha characters and eccentric tastes.
She holds degrees that she does nothing with and has experienced a long string of jobs that have left her unfulfilled. Only as an author, has she truly found her passion. When not crafting stories in her small Wisconsin town, she hikes unbeaten trails, watches hockey games, and wishes she didn’t detest cooking so much.
Dahlia is her middle name. Her last name is more suitable for a horror writer.
