Book Release Blitz for People We Avoid by Lani Lynn Vale (REVIEW)…

Readers have every reason to rejoice today with this exhilarating romance full of sizzling banter and lots of emotional highs and lows.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of People We Avoid by Lani Lynn Vale, along with my impressions of it, then add this second installment in the Don't Date Him series to your bookshelf too!

All Birdee Calvert wanted was to be normal.

She wanted the parents who didn’t divorce when she was a kid and make her life a living nightmare.

She wanted the sisters who actually liked her. She wanted to live in a town where everyone loved her and didn’t have a single bad thing to say about her.

That was not the life Birdee was given.

She had the exact opposite life. The kind of life where she slunk through the grocery store with a hoodie on so no one would recognize her. The kind of life where men like Creed Daugherty didn’t give her a second look.

After years of abuse and heartache, she built walls. Big, huge, thick ones that no one could ever breach. If she didn’t put forth the effort to get to know someone, she couldn’t be hurt.

At least, that was the theory.

She never counted on Creed Daugherty hitting her with his truck. Then, deciding that once he entered her life, he would never leave it.

Though Birdee should’ve known that Creed was too good to be true.

All it takes is one mistake on her part, and Creed freezes her out. Then forces the rest of the town to make it almost impossible for her to live in Sawtooth, Montana, anymore.

Birdee only thought it couldn’t get worse.

But Creed makes sure to show her that it can and will.

The thing about rock bottom?

Once you’re there, you have nothing else to lose.

And Creed Daugherty just made himself enemy number one.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Readers once again need to hold on tight as you'll quickly find yourself on a rollercoaster ride of emotions!  When a side character from the previous book takes center stage here readers will discover a slow burn romance full of unexpected twists and turns that will leave them breathless with anticipation and turning pages frantically.  By the end, you'll be thanking Ms. Vale for another beautifully crafted tale that has you counting down the days until the next release in this series.

Birdee was a bit villainous in the previous book, someone who I wasn't sure could be redeemed, but I discovered a whole different side to her here.  Birdee's life has been less than happy, with lots of hardships that leave her only able to count on herself.  She's put a wall up around herself that makes HEA a hard-fought victory for the man set on redeeming himself too.  Birdee truly evolved here, broke my heart in many instances as I learned more about her past, and she really deserved happiness after everything her family put her through.  She was strong with the weight of the world on her and needed someone to put her first just once.

Creed Daugherty is living life as a free man after serving time for a crime he didn't commit.  His time in prison has left him a bit bitter and a bit of a loner for much of the beginning of the story.  Once Birdee comes into his life though we see a man of strong emotions.  After his harsh demeanor early on, he comes through wholeheartedly for Birdee when she needs support most in a cheer-worthy culmination to their HEA.  I might've been a bit unhappy with Creed at first, but I was in love with him by the end.

This was a gut-wrenching, multi-layered romantic tale.  There was suspense, along with lots of unexpected twists and turns, to keep me fully invested in this story from start to finish.  Both Birdee and Creed are strong and relatable characters, both redeemed themselves along their bumpy journey to HEA, and I was rooting for them every step of the way.  Along with these appealing main characters there were some equally strong secondary characters who stuck out and left me breathless for what's coming next in the series. With its compelling ending, readers will especially be clamoring for more, and with her usual talent Ms. Vale will give readers exactly what they want!

My rating for this is an A-

Book Release Blast for He’s A Mean One by Lani Lynn Vale (REVIEW)….

Just in time for the holidays comes this steamy and suspenseful tale of a long-time love and the man waiting to claim the woman he's been waiting years for.  When a snowstorm and a holiday decorating contest bring two people together, readers will find themselves charmed and their heart's warmed courtesy of this final installment in the Content Advisory series.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of He’s A Mean One by Lani Lynn Vale, along with getting my impressions of this age-gap romance, then add it to your bookshelf too!

For a solid five years, Jasper Madden has done nothing but look the other way when it comes to Calliope Hodges. At first, she was way too young for him, barely eighteen the first time he laid eyes on her. It also didn’t help that he’d witnessed her at the lowest of lows, practically making peace with rock bottom.

But as time goes by, he realizes that Calliope is different. She’s a brave, stunning young woman that has slowly captured his heart while he was watching from the shadows.

He knows that it’ll take time for her to realize that he’s not the enemy, but instead her saving grace.

So he decides to play the long game.

For years, he’s waited in the periphery for her to be ready. He stands right there, knowing that one day she’ll look up and finally see him as the man that is desperately in love with her.

But that chip on her shoulder keeps her from looking everywhere but his direction.

Luck finally leans his way when she moves in next door, and a battle of the neighbors ensues.

Where she sees war in the form of a friendly holiday decorating competition, he sees the opportunity of a lifetime.

All it takes is one bed, a freak snowstorm, and a Christmas miracle for her to realize that he’s been there all along. A silent knight in shining armor willing to take on the world just to make sure she never has to feel unworthy ever again.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Ms. Vale never lets me down when it comes to her romantic pairings and her depiction of found families in the MC world!  And this book is no exception!  This book brings readers back to the men and women of the Truth Tellers MC to wrap up their series, while giving us hints of what's to come next in a story that pulled at my heartstrings…while leaving me satisfied with a smile on my face.

Calliope was young when we first saw her, a young girl struggling to keep her family together through working many jobs and trusting only herself.  It made her hard to like at first, but with this book readers see a more mature lady.  She actually opens up about herself, and her desperate life choices, and it endeared her to me.  She's grown into a survivor, someone who tells it like it is, and I found her the perfect other half to Jasper to make him whole.

Jasper's a dark and brooding part of the MC, weighed down by a past that left him scarred inside and out.  He embraces his loneliness, but when it comes to Callie, he's captivated.  Her young age at their first meeting unfortunately kept him holding back, watching over her from afar.  When they become neighbors though, everything changes in a journey of funny and heartfelt banter, along with playful exchanges that were flirty and teeming with sexual tension.  Jasper saw past Callie's grumpiness to bring out her softer side in a discovery that warmed my heart.  She too saw past his obvious scars, accepting him wholeheartedly despite his own inferiority issues.

Together they're a perfectly imperfect couple.  They appeared to be opposites but they ultimately fit together beautifully in a tale full of fun and flirty banter, steamy encounters, and moments of festivities and frivolities.  The feeling of the holiday adds a bit of extra warmth to this fast-paced story that kept me eagerly turning the pages, wrapping things up with a big bow of love and HEA!  From start to finish this was a well-crafted series, with unforgettable characters that left a lasting impression, and I'm left greatly anticipating what Ms. Vale has planned for readers next.

My rating for this is an A.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

After thoroughly enjoying the first book in this series, I couldn't wait to jump back into this world.  And with this second installment arriving today, it's another winner with an entertaining premise and a main couple that you're easily rooting for from the very first page.  It's a storyline of second chances, teeming with steamy encounters, while pushing every one of my emotional buttons.  Theirs is an original journey to HEA, one that charmed me while making me laugh and blush at the same time.  It's a story that's lengthy, but each word is vital and magical, presenting this delightful couple in the best and most realistic light.  With each turn of the page I fell in love with each of them, for their strengths as well as their imperfections, and they're the newest additions to my book boyfriend/girlfriend lists.

Readers were first introduced to Mia Charles in the first book in this series, End Game, where the hardships she experienced were just starting to be revealed.  Things continue here with her drowning in debt and juggling everything just to stay afloat.  I admired Mia, found her likable and relatable, and was happy she had Cole in her life to give her unwavering support when she needed it most.  I enjoyed the cam sessions she shared with her mystery man (Cole) and the slow burn of their burgeoning relationship.  I enjoyed their flirtations, their fun times, and their incendiary banter that almost scorched my fingers with each turn of the page.  She's a tough heroine, one who picks herself up after being knocked down each and every time, and I quickly became invested in her road to HEA.

Cole Korhonen is one of my favorite characters ever!  From the outside he looks tough and sexy, with a take no prisoners attitude.  The inside though shows a man with a big heart and a deeply romantic side that comes from his love of romance novels.  Though he's told to stay away from Mia early on, he finds her too much of a temptation and finds a clever way to come back into her life.  He soon becomes her lifeline, both emotionally and financially, as they grow closer through their cam sessions.  Finally meeting in person again allows him to really turn on the charm though!  He gives her unconditional love and unwavering support, never wasting time on miscommunication. He does and says everything you want a book boyfriend to do and he was an integral part of her HEA.  He's an utterly delicious hero with a talent for talking dirty who I'm still thinking about!

Along with this strong and likable main couple, a couple who are each other's family while unwaveringly supporting each other, comes an equally likable cast of secondary characters.  These characters became a found family for this couple, the friends and teammates surrounding them, and I came to enjoy and appreciate each one of them. I'm now left breathlessly awaiting more stories set in this hockey world, drawn to these secondary characters, while hoping for more glimpses of the drool-worthy Cole in the future!

BUY AT AMAZON here.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Picking up where September Doves left us, and which means this IS NOT to be read on its own, readers will find a story teeming with the heartbreaking fallout of what came before.  Both Rylee and Colton are pushing forward to do what needs to be done to protect those they care about and to keep history from repeating itself.  They're both hurting emotionally though which leads to a few frustrating bumps in their road to HEA.  Colton broke my heart as he constantly tried to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders.  Rylee found herself leaning on another to help her survive in an act that I understood but still wasn’t too keen on.  With emotions running high it's a slow burn for these two this time around as the danger and suspense was amped up, decisions and consequences raced towards readers and left you breathless in a rollercoaster ride that keeps readers on edge.

This story had a lot going on, lots of action and suspense that pulled Colton and Rylee's found family even tighter together.  Theirs is a family worth fighting for, worth dying for in an epic storyline that unwaveringly drew me to each member.  There were even a few new secondary characters who captured my attention and found a comfortable seat at the family table.  It all came together beautifully in the end, with epilogues that warmed my heart and a last glimpse of characters I hope to see again soon.

My rating for this is a B+

SEPTEMBER DOVES (Jackals and Vipers, Duet #1)....
Rylee Adder is a struggling college student desperate to reconnect with the only family she has left. She finally has her chance when a late-night phone call sends her rushing to Eden, West Virginia—a small mining town with a veiled past.
She arrives ready to console her grieving sister, but instead discovers a distant, secretive woman she hardly recognizes, and Colton Archer, a tattoo-covered troublemaker with a knack for pushing her buttons.
As Rylee battles her growing attraction to Colton, who is as infuriating as he is handsome, she comes face-to-face with a shocking discovery that has her questioning everything.
When danger closes in, she must decide what rules she is willing to break for the ones she loves or risk losing them all.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

From debut author Emmerson Hoyt comes this suspenseful and engaging tale of small town secrets, family bonds, and a modern-day take on the Robin Hood myth.  From the opening page, Ms. Hoyt has crafted an atmospheric tale that wraps readers in a web of twists and turns, secrets, and a sizzling romance amidst a backdrop teeming with tension.

Rylee Adder's the kind of heroine you root for the moment you meet her.  She's earnest, feisty, and desperately wants a relationship with her sister.  So when her sister suffers a loss, she immediately goes to small town Eden to support her.  Things aren't what she expected there though.  From a secretive sister, to a town full of eclectic denizens, to a sexy bad boy who pushes every one of her buttons, this story gets off to a crackling start.  Rylee is at first left with more questions than answers but as she and Colton start their steamy journey, the truth about Eden slowly becomes clearer.

Colton Archer's a delicious hero with a dark past littered with death and secrets.  He exudes a bad boy persona but is quite heroic as we learn more about him and his "family".  He's a brooding character, a caring and protective one too who immediately pulled Rylee into his loving embrace, and as a member of his "family".

As readers learn about what drives the denizens of Eden, they'll get a punch to the gut.  As the Jackals are introduced, readers will find themselves drawn to their mission and have their hearts warmed by the utter perfection of this found family and their righteous deeds.  By the end of this book my heart is hammering, courtesy of a compelling and emotionally jolting cliffhanger, that has me eagerly counting down the days until this duet concludes.

My rating for this is an A.

Book Release Blast for The Voices Are Back by Lani Lynn Vale (REVIEW)….

The time never seemed right for this compelling couple, a single father ex-con and a woman with health issues and an uncaring family, who finally get their chance of happiness if they can manage to push through all the roadblocks thrown their way.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of The Voices Are Back by Lani Lynn Vale, along with my impressions of this fifth installment in the Gator Bait series, then add it to your bookshelf too!

Her: Just a word, yet one person came to mind. Morrigan St. Pete.
The woman that’d been hounding my every step since the day she was born.
From the moment we first comforted each other in the hospital, to the day that I left her to follow her dreams, I knew that she was my one.
Through marriage, divorce, and a prison sentence, I had low expectations when it came to her ever coming around to my way of life. What kind of woman wanted a man that’d been to prison, had a child that disliked him and everything he stood for, and had zero prospects in life?
But then she popped into my life again, and that feeling of suffocation slacked off for the first time since I let her go.
***
The first time I tried to come back to Aodhan, I found him married with a kid on the way.
The second time I tried, he was heading to jail.
As one would say, the third time is the charm, right? Wrong.
The third time, he was divorced, fresh from prison, had a kid, and was again with his ex-wife.
That was the final nail in my coffin. I decided to give up.
I would do anything and everything I could to avoid him. Hiding wasn’t beneath me.
I only wish he’d stuck with my plan, because the moment he sees me again, it’s like he’s seen the light. Avoiding him is impossible when he goes out of his way to insinuate himself into every aspect of my life.
If only life was as perfect as my dreams.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Ms. Vale continues to entertain with this latest installment in the Gator Bait series, a story of second (and third) chances for HEA between two unique characters clearly meant to be together.  Though this is a story set in the MC world, the focus is less on the suspense and Club workings, and more on the love and emotional connection between two longtime friends who danced around being more throughout the years.  With each turn of the page I became more and more invested in the main couple, occasionally pulled out of the sensual haze surrounding them by the rough around the edges narrative, but despite that I still found myself falling for them hook, line, and sinker.

Aodhan McBanks has been a part of Morrigan's life since the day they were born, with her through the issues with her family and her poor health, loved her and labeled her "the one" in his heart and mind...but the time to claim her never seemed right.  She ends up being the "one who got away" until the day she passes out...right into his arms.  From that moment on the usually quiet man makes his feelings known through possessive words and deeds that put a smile on my face.  An alpha side emerges that shows him to be drool-worthy and sexy in his journey to show Morrigan that he's truly worthy of her.  Him calling her "Little Mama" still warms my heart and tickles my uterus.

Morrigan St. Pete is another of Ms. Vale's perfectly imperfect heroines...a plus-sized woman with heart issues and a disability that makes her pass out whenever her heart rate rises dramatically (POTS) which leaves her vulnerable and puts her in danger when the episodes occur.  Her mother tried to kill her before she was even born, while her father doesn't trust doctors and thinks Morrigan is faking her issues, which has left her lonely and feeling like she has to do everything on her own.  I was drawn to Morrigan from the very start, drawn to her perseverance and strong will to get up every time she's knocked down.  Needless to say, her blood family is one that pulls her down which is why she goes out to make one of her own choosing in a journey that warmed my heart.

The romance between Aodhan and Morrigan was a long time coming!  The connection between them was steamy from the start, full of unrequited love bursting at the seams, while adding in sweetness and sentimentality.  Morrigan's disability wasn't one I'd heard of before but it showed the toughness of this heroine in seeing her dealing with it and as a person with a disability myself I felt especially connected to her. Throughout the story Aodhan was a strong support who never saw Morrigan as less than as they dealt with POTS together.  On a whole, Ms. Vale's inclusion of POTS in the storyline was seamless and gave readers another of her characters to root for.  Along with such a perfectly imperfect main couple was an equally intriguing cast of secondary characters, some who became part of Morrigan's found family for all the love and support they showed her. Among those characters, and one who stands out the most, is Folsom...a caring friend to Morrigan who bursts onto the scene and shows herself to be larger than life.  She's bold and brash and I hope to see more of her in the future!  Aodhan’s son, Bowie, was a highlight too for his unexpected behavior.  As we get closer to the end of this series I realize how much I'm going to miss these unique characters...but until the end comes I'm going to gobble up each new release with a smile on my face.

I see you, Roman. You want to fight me, and then you want to be so good for me.
Kink is a rich man’s game—high-end clubs, dungeons full of toys. I’m a dirt-poor trailer park boy who makes all his own gear. But I have a plan. If I can film viral BDSM videos, I can rake in enough cash to get my friends and I out of here before we become another gang violence statistic.
First, I need a sub, someone beautiful and obedient. Anyone but the new boy that just moved into town.
He’s huge and feral and angry, he never speaks, and he’s living in the same house as a cop. He couldn’t be a worse choice. But when I look into his eyes, the flash of submission I see there has me obsessed.
I want him. And I, Scout Moreno, always get what I want.
A gritty, emotional story featuring BDSM, a smaller dom/bigger sub, praise kink, a secret relationship, and found family.

BUY here.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Wow!  I'm left emotionally drained after reading this unforgettable story, left feeling bruised but hopeful by the connection formed between Roman and Scout.  It's a dark read, an unvarnished look at harsh truths between two people who've experienced the worst that life has to offer, and managed to emerge from the wreckage to find their HEA.

Roman's a larger than life character from the moment he comes on the scene, but he's also a broken man beaten down by his police officer brother in scenes that repeatedly broke my heart.  Adding to Roman's struggles is the fact that he's mute, a condition made worse in stressful situations or around certain people...which his brother also uses to his advantage.  Whereas Roman used to have his grandparents for support, and as a safe haven, their deaths have left him emotionally adrift and he now harms himself when his anger gets to be too much.  His grandparents raised him and their loss is vividly depicted, leaving a profound impact on him that brought tears to my eyes. Throughout this epic tale I was drawn to Roman, wanting to hug the (truly) gentle giant's pain away, while desperately wanting SOMEONE (anyone) to just LISTEN to him. Roman's mutism was a compelling foundation between him and Scout as their togetherness became a new safe haven for him, a place for acceptance as Scout (and his friends Becks and Dallas) learned sign language in order to communicate easier with him.  This new-found family put a smile on my face, showing that even in darkness there are moments of brightness courtesy of Scout and his friends.

Scout too got put through the wringer, coming from a childhood of poverty and surrounded by drug addicts, getting left on his own at a young age.  He didn't give up without a fight though, determined to make a better life for himself and those he calls family.  He's a protector at his core, determined to do whatever necessary to give comfort, and he becomes laser-focused on Roman the moment he sets eyes on him. Theirs was a relationship that was truly touching, one nicely balanced between sweet words/deeds along with the eroticism of a beginning dom/sub connection.  Scout gave Roman the chance to just BE, gave him an outlet to ease his mind and body, and it was from there that they moved into their more erotic connection.  Their encounters for the internet luckily weren't the focus which allowed lots of encounters to be depicted that were full of heart and soul, moments that warmed my heart and were like a warm blanket giving comfort to them both.

From the first page to the last, with each turn of the page, this became an epic and unforgettable read.  It was a tale that takes you from the lowest of lows to rewarding highs, bringing together two broken and bruised men in a healing balm of love and acceptance.  Scout and Roman are beautifully brought to the pages, a perfectly imperfect pairing that just feels right, and I hope to see more of them in future installments.  Those installments I hope will bring readers greater insight into Becks and Dallas as the end of this book sets things up very temptingly for these sweet and supportive secondary characters...along with giving me a new author for my auto-buy list!

My rating for this is an A.
