Featuring Magnetic Allure a short story from DM Earl!

As a traveling nurse, Luna Zawacki loves the freedom her job provides. Seeing new places and meeting new people always makes the work more interesting and exciting. However, a transient lifestyle makes little time for personal or even romantic connections. But when two young girls are rushed into her emergency room after a tragic car accident leaves the daughters without parents, Luna can't resist the pull the girls' loss has on her heartstrings. Ensuring their safety and well-being while they recover becomes her top priority.

Being on the hospital board poses some challenges for Eli Stanford. He likes to keep his work at work, and his home life separate from his business. But everything changes when his two nieces are fighting for their lives after a fatal crash kills his sister (brother?). Now, more than ever, Eli must trust the hospital to care for the girls. Luckily, the determined and compassionate nurse assigned to his nieces shares his vision.

As Luna and Eli drop everything to focus on the care of the innocent girls, the two grow closer. But is the magnetic allure that pulls them together a reaction to trauma or will Eli and Luna find a real connection after the devastation subsides?

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS STORY:

It's a tempting morsel Ms. Earl gives readers with this short story of death and recovery from both physical and emotional wounds.  The lead couple are both lonely, yet hesitant to make connections, until the needs of two little girls brings them together in their first steps of becoming a family.  It's a story that pulls at the heartstrings while warming your heart, providing some steam as well as sweetness along the way.

It's easy to connect to Eli and Luna, their issues are understandable, and I liked their first steps to HEA and look forward to where things will go between them.  I saw myself a lot in Luna as she's left her family behind after being used by them for years and finally becoming tired of the monetary anchors they became.  Books and her cats have become her lifelines and it made for an endearing foundation to her character.  Eli is a man living off the grid, a man who likes to have control over the things around him.  Having his whole life upended leaves him battered, bruised, and full of uncertainties which has him pulling Luna closer and closer to him.  She becomes his emotional port in the storm while she has the chance for a family of her own making once this pair brings Eli's nieces into their lives.  They're a likable couple, one you're rooting for from the moment they meet, and I like where they're at by the end...but there needs to be more.

A common theme amongst Ms. Earl's books is that of found families...and with taking in his two nieces, Eli and Luna have a little family of their own.  It’s a heartwarming connection between them and just what they all needed to start healing.  The romance between Eli and Luna was one of emotional support, balanced out by sweet interludes and a steamy encounter.  It's a quick read that easily invests you in the story but the ending is definitely where I felt a bit frustrated.  With an ending that CAN be seen as a conclusion I still feel like there's more between these two.  There's still a ticking clock hanging over these two in a happily for now conclusion that has me curious for this couple's future.  On a whole it's another good read from DM Earl that is a satisfying addition to her backlist!

My rating for this is a B+

Book Release Blitz for The Lies About Forever by Claudia Burgoa (REVIEW)……

A young man unlucky in love finds himself repeatedly in the middle of it in this emotional and bittersweet tale of second (and third and forth) chances that's told in two parts.  Book one in the series is releasing today with the second book in the duet releasing on May 6th.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of The Lies About Forever by Claudia Burgoa, along with my impressions of it, then add this first installment in the Impossibly Possible Duet to your bookshelf!

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Claudia Burgoa once again hits readers with an inspiring and gut-wrenching love story duet.
Lightning can strike the same place more than once.
The first time, it robbed me of my high school sweetheart.
Shattering our forever.
I was just sixteen.
Too young to understand the medical jargon that meant she was gone.
Too naïve to see that forever was nothing but a fairytale.
Now, years later, I meet Ameline.
I tried not to fall in love, but it was impossible.
She gathered all my broken pieces and put me back together.
I knew the only way to keep myself intact was never to love again. But I fell for the illusion of forever once more.
At least until I lost her.
Now I'm left questioning everything.
What does forever mean when it's built on a foundation of pain and loss?
How do you move on when lightning keeps targeting your heart?
Why bother believing in forever when tomorrow isn’t guaranteed?

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

When it comes to emotional rollercoaster rides, Ms. Burgoa has carved a definitive niche when it comes to romance reads requiring tissues.  Her latest release, the first half of a duet, laid the emotional foundation to a second chance romance that builds slowly over time alongside roadblocks getting in the way.  Knowing this book ends on a cliffhanger added an extra layer of foreboding that kept me constantly on edge and left me shaking with anticipation for the concluding book releasing very soon.

Ameline Lewis is the kind of heroine you're drawn to, the kind you want to protect as her younger years were emotionally messy due to her father's many remarriages...oftentimes to toxic women her own age.  It led to lots of loneliness and self-doubts, as well as forming a basis of unconditional support from her brother's roommate.  Over time, one sweet and tender moment at a time, these two emotionally bruised individuals start evolving from friends to lovers.  It's a journey just gaining traction here before reaching the gut-punch cliffhanger ending this installment.

Gabe Decker is someone readers have gotten glimpses of when visiting the Decker family throughout previous books.  I never felt a deep connection to him previously, but I found him incredibly endearing in this book.  His early loss was heartbreaking and it wasn't an easy recovery for him to be willing to put his heart on the line again.  His interactions with Ameline were sweet and supportive, moments both big and small acts, early on and were just what she needed to reach for her own dreams.  I also enjoyed their texting moments with banter that put a smile on my face and pulled me in even more to their powerful connection.

From start to finish this book pulled at my heartstrings and had me keeping tissues close by as I waited for the painful cliffhanger.  Leading up to that gut-punch, I adored the friends to something more connection between two immensely appealing characters. The Decker Family was a delightful support for one another with witty banter and heartfelt emotions.  Ms. Burgoa once again wove an emotionally engaging tale of love, loss, and recovery.  It's a raw journey readers are on though as seen by the painful cliffhanger now occupying thoughts until the conclusion releases next month.

My rating for this is an A.

Book Tour for A Blessing and a Curse by Anna Campbell (Review & GIVEAWAY)…..

The daughter of a Pastor embraces her partying ways after the death of her father, while being tempted by the attention she receives from the boy she's loved for years, in a journey full of angst and sensuality.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of A Blessing and a Curse by Anna Campbell, along with getting my impressions of it, then learn even more about this book by visiting the other sites hosting this tour.  In honor of this contemporary tale, make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a $10 Starbucks GC, along with the chance to win a pencil set from Long Hand Pencils too!

Blessing Savage barely remembers who she was before the unexpected death of her father, Pastor Savage. These days she clings desperately to the party girl persona she’s created for her second year of college, living with a new group of friends, joining their sorority, and partying non-stop. There’s only one thing that can kill her perpetual buzz, and his name is Camden Holbrook, the boy she’s pined for for nearly a decade.
Camden credits Blessing’s father for saving him when he was a child, giving him a place to stay when his mother abandoned him and setting him back on the right track. So when Pastor Savage asked a promise of Camden before dying – to look out for Blessing – he made a vow and meant it. Protecting Blessing has always come easily. Loving her has not. Not for someone who’s learned time and time again that love and loss are intricately interwoven.
After years of Camden keeping her at arm’s length, the last thing Blessing wants is him barging into her life. But new Blessing refuses to let Cam play knight-in-shining-armor, not when she knows – from one starry summer’s night slip-up – how he really feels about her. This time around, Blessing’s intent on pushing Camden’s limits, and she’s got some sexy new tricks up her sleeve to take him past them. Then maybe he’ll admit the truth of his feelings. Maybe the person who’s always known her best can help her find a way back to herself. Maybe she can prove to Camden that love doesn’t always destroy a person. Sometimes, it’s the only thing that can start putting them back together.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

It's a rocky road to HEA for two apparent opposites whose lives have been intertwined since they were kids.  When the guiding force in their lives dies, it leaves both of them reeling and trying to live up to past promises while trying to find themselves.  From moments of sadness and heartbreak to moments of steam, readers will be on a rollercoaster ride of emotions amidst the push and pull of two people dancing around the obvious.

Camden Holbrook is the hero of this story and I was drawn to him from the very beginning.  His background is a sad one courtesy of a drug-addicted mother, leaving him starving for food, love, and attention.  Camden saw the Pastor as a father figure, a safe haven in the storm of his youth.  With the Pastor's death, Camden was taught yet again that there are no guarantees in his life.  It also showed him to be a man of honor, a man with a good heart, who will live up to the deathbed promise he made despite how much hurt it causes him.

Blessing Savage is a young woman with strong emotions, reeling from the death of her father, acting out and self-destructing.  She's loved Camden from afar for years, but just when she needs his support most, she finds herself caught up in an endless cycle of push and pull and judgments.  Her journey is a frustrating one at times, her struggles to find herself heartbreaking, but it kept me rooting for the two of them every step of the way.

Pulling readers in from Camden's heartbreaking childhood full of uncertainties, to the pain of loss Blessing shows through her self-destructive behaviors, this is a tale full of emotions.  You become invested in this pair from the start, invested yet frustrated by their dancing around each other as the story progresses.  With each turn of the page I was on edge, anticipating the moment when they finally realize they're much better together than apart.

I see you, Roman. You want to fight me, and then you want to be so good for me.
Kink is a rich man’s game—high-end clubs, dungeons full of toys. I’m a dirt-poor trailer park boy who makes all his own gear. But I have a plan. If I can film viral BDSM videos, I can rake in enough cash to get my friends and I out of here before we become another gang violence statistic.
First, I need a sub, someone beautiful and obedient. Anyone but the new boy that just moved into town.
He’s huge and feral and angry, he never speaks, and he’s living in the same house as a cop. He couldn’t be a worse choice. But when I look into his eyes, the flash of submission I see there has me obsessed.
I want him. And I, Scout Moreno, always get what I want.
A gritty, emotional story featuring BDSM, a smaller dom/bigger sub, praise kink, a secret relationship, and found family.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Wow!  I'm left emotionally drained after reading this unforgettable story, left feeling bruised but hopeful by the connection formed between Roman and Scout.  It's a dark read, an unvarnished look at harsh truths between two people who've experienced the worst that life has to offer, and managed to emerge from the wreckage to find their HEA.

Roman's a larger than life character from the moment he comes on the scene, but he's also a broken man beaten down by his police officer brother in scenes that repeatedly broke my heart.  Adding to Roman's struggles is the fact that he's mute, a condition made worse in stressful situations or around certain people...which his brother also uses to his advantage.  Whereas Roman used to have his grandparents for support, and as a safe haven, their deaths have left him emotionally adrift and he now harms himself when his anger gets to be too much.  His grandparents raised him and their loss is vividly depicted, leaving a profound impact on him that brought tears to my eyes. Throughout this epic tale I was drawn to Roman, wanting to hug the (truly) gentle giant's pain away, while desperately wanting SOMEONE (anyone) to just LISTEN to him. Roman's mutism was a compelling foundation between him and Scout as their togetherness became a new safe haven for him, a place for acceptance as Scout (and his friends Becks and Dallas) learned sign language in order to communicate easier with him.  This new-found family put a smile on my face, showing that even in darkness there are moments of brightness courtesy of Scout and his friends.

Scout too got put through the wringer, coming from a childhood of poverty and surrounded by drug addicts, getting left on his own at a young age.  He didn't give up without a fight though, determined to make a better life for himself and those he calls family.  He's a protector at his core, determined to do whatever necessary to give comfort, and he becomes laser-focused on Roman the moment he sets eyes on him. Theirs was a relationship that was truly touching, one nicely balanced between sweet words/deeds along with the eroticism of a beginning dom/sub connection.  Scout gave Roman the chance to just BE, gave him an outlet to ease his mind and body, and it was from there that they moved into their more erotic connection.  Their encounters for the internet luckily weren't the focus which allowed lots of encounters to be depicted that were full of heart and soul, moments that warmed my heart and were like a warm blanket giving comfort to them both.

From the first page to the last, with each turn of the page, this became an epic and unforgettable read.  It was a tale that takes you from the lowest of lows to rewarding highs, bringing together two broken and bruised men in a healing balm of love and acceptance.  Scout and Roman are beautifully brought to the pages, a perfectly imperfect pairing that just feels right, and I hope to see more of them in future installments.  Those installments I hope will bring readers greater insight into Becks and Dallas as the end of this book sets things up very temptingly for these sweet and supportive secondary characters...along with giving me a new author for my auto-buy list!

My rating for this is an A.

Book Review Tour for Any Fin For Love by Petie McCarty (REVIEW & GIVEAWAY)……..

A woman coping with the loss of her father enters a fishing tournament, only to find herself paired with  the man who's been competing against her at every turn, with fireworks the result.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Any Fin For Love by Petie McCarty, along with my impressions of it, then learn even more about this book by visiting the other sites hosting this tour!  In honor of this charming small town romance, with a bit of suspense thrown in, make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a $10 bookstore GC too!

She could almost hear the fish laughing at her...
Cody Ryan’s father never missed fishing the annual Loon Lake tournament until his unexpected passing. So this year, Cody packs up her how-to fishing videos and her dad’s old johnboat and gives him one final entry.
Gage Connor needs some R&R away from his coast guard deployment catching drug smugglers along the Louisiana coast, so he borrows a bass boat from his buddy and heads to Loon, Alabama to do some fishing.
When Gage and Cody meet at Loon Lake, their attraction is immediate and intense—until the two discover there is only one boat slip left on the lake and they both need it, and there’s only one vacant hotel room left in Loon and they both want it. Thus, their competition begins. Both vow to keep their distance from the other to fight the temptation, but fate has other plans. The tournament pairing party picks the two-man teams and chooses Gage as Cody’s partner.
For two days. Alone on a boat. Working as a team.
Good things come to those who bait...

EXCERPT:

Double damn!
Gage looked over Lila’s head and saw Cody stomping toward the dock, a big Igloo cooler in her arms, fire in her eyes, and steam escaping from her ears. Okay, no steam, but she looked mad enough for some. He swallowed hard and tried to pry Lila’s arms free, but she was having none of that.
“Now you just hold still, cutie patootie,” she drawled, “and let little ole Lila give you my special good-luck hug.” She crushed her barely-covered breasts against his abdomen, causing the neckline on her tank top to droop almost to her navel.
Cody had reached the dock and stomped so hard he could feel the vibration in the boards. Her glare could singe the fins off an alligator gar, and Gage had Lila stuck to him like a tick. He was a sitting duck.
Cody looked even madder now than when she left to get the rest of her gear, which could only mean...
Wait a minute! She’s jealous.
Of Lila.

Cody’s glare deepened upon final approach. And Gage grinned for real.
Zeke Tumson, my ass. She likes me.
He stopped trying to struggle free of Lila and waited for Cody to get to the boat and the fireworks to begin. Lila felt his struggle cease and snuggled in closer, rubbing every inch of her breasts against his gut, then laying her cheek on his chest. A week ago, Lila’s antics might have elicited a very pronounced and noticeable reaction. Today—he glanced down to check—nothing. His gaze shot to Cody steaming down the dock. Had she done this to him?
“Mmmm,” Lila cooed and squiggled her body again, “good luuuuck.”
Cody marched mere steps away. When Lila purred, Cody hesitated for a heartbeat, made a sharp left, stepped down into the johnboat, and proceeded to hook up her livewell.
Gage waited a five-count, but Cody kept her head down and fooled with the tubing attached to the cooler. He knew he had to move. If he didn’t, Lila would be in his shorts any second.
Maybe he should let...Nope, bad idea.
Cody would push him overboard later, then drive off and leave him. Heck, she may already be planning that.
He cleared his throat to be sure Cody heard. “Thanks for seeing us off, Lila,” he said politely. No reaction from Cody.
“I didn’t come to see her off,” Lila sniped. “Just yooouu,” she cooed and rubbed her breasts against his gut again.
Cody missed it. She never looked up.
“All right, you get on back to your registration table, and let me get to my fishing.” Gage took Lila’s shoulders and physically set her back.
Still ignoring him, Cody finished with the livewell and picked up a fishing rod.
Lila batted her eyelashes. “I’ll be waiting when you get back, sugar. What say we have dinner tonight?”

No way would he answer that question. He just smiled and stuck a foot out to step down in the johnboat at the same instant Lila hooked her finger in his belt loop to tug him back.
Too late, Gage saw the butt end of Cody’s rod push off on the dock cleat, and the johnboat shot back the full three feet of loose bow and stern line.
His sneaker stepped into thin air, and he dropped like a rock.
Gage hit the water at an angle, and Lila followed him in, her finger still hooked in his belt loop.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

When I first read the synopsis of this book I was expecting a lighthearted read full of humor and heart.  What I got was so much more as this book dealt with loss, empowerment, and exhilarating suspense...all wrapped up in a charming small town bow.  It was ultimately a satisfying story that pushed every one of my emotional buttons, a well-rounded tale that put a permanent smile on my face courtesy of a likable main couple and their crackling connection.

When readers first meet Cody Ryan they see a woman full of determination, dealing with the death of her father in the best way possible...by taking part in the annual Loon Lake fishing tournament, a tournament he never missed as it revolved around his favorite sport.  The only trouble is that she's woefully unprepared for the rigors of the tournament.  Though she fished with her father often she didn't really pay attention.  That doesn't stop her though as she forges ahead in participating in the tournament.  She's a strong-willed heroine who doesn't let anything stop her, being the first woman in the tournament had me rooting for her and made her even more determined to do well.  Being paired with the sexy man who's been challenging her at every turn adds an intriguing element to her being in the tournament, making her even more stubborn in her fishing plans.  He's a distraction she doesn't need but she can't help herself whenever she's around him in scenes full of sexual tension and a verbal tug of war that makes me smile.

Gage Connor is a Captain with the Coast Guard and is in town for a much-needed vacation at the behest of his best friend.  The moment he arrives in town he has a run-in with Cody, the first of many with each one becoming more crackling than the last.  It seems that when it comes to Cody, Gage knows just what buttons to push to get her attention focused on him.  Gage is an appealing hero but it takes a bit of time to truly get to know him.  He's nursing some wounds of his own and it's left him with trust issues which causes many roadblocks in his attraction to Cody as well as having him close himself off to the love that's right in front of him.  His appearance in town also brings with it danger, from drug dealers wanting what's (unbeknownst to him) hidden in his boat.  Their appearance leads to exhilarating scenes of suspense, surprising twists and turns, and a reason for Cody and Gage to truly work together.  These scenes brought the two of them closer together, had them working as one, to keep one step ahead of the bad guys.

Cody and Gage are a good match with both of them trying to work through pain from the past.  For Cody, honoring her father by entering the tournament was an empowering moment for her, one that made me really like her.  She knew she wasn't fully ready for the tournament but threw herself into it wholeheartedly.  She was determined to beat the men and their outdated notions.  In contrast, Gage acted out because of his pain, goading Cody every chance he got which frustrated me at times.  Once danger crept close though they worked together beautifully, pulling me in completely to their character growth.  Alongside this appealing main couple were a large cast of secondary characters, both good guys and bad, that were larger than life and left an indelible mark in the storyline.  First and foremost was Gage's friend Dougah Fortier, a charming and caring friend whose calls to Gage were laced with many words of wisdom.  He was a supportive and protective friend which comes into play later in the story especially.  The many denizens of this small town added not only color and charm, but twists and turns too.  Velma and Delma were the town's matchmakers and I found their actions endearing...as well as having them put a smile on my face.  Doc Taylor was the backbone of this town, with a story that wove through the facets of many people's lives.  His connection to Cody's father is a cleverly crafted part of the story and helps build a solid conclusion to this story.  Even the bad guys left an impression on me.  Zeke and Alvin were one of those unlikable pairings, not very nice to Cody, but the unexpected twist that befell them at the end of the story left its mark on me.  In a story of starting over, of working past the pain of the past, Ms. McCarty has crafted an entertaining tale...a battle of the sexes in a small town where unexpected danger rears its ugly head.  Readers will ultimately find much to like about this book while hoping for a return visit to this town and its colorful characters!

My rating for this is an A-

After graduating, I decided to make a stake for my future in California. Naturally, imbued with youthful naïveté (a nice euphemism for stupidity), I submitted my portfolio at the L.A. Times and The San Francisco Examiner. I naturally figured that it would require only a cursory examination for them to see my undeniable genius and hire me on to work on their front pages.
Didn’t work out that way, not at all, and by the time I’d worked my way through the second tier, and then the third tier papers, I finally managed to snag my first professional newspaper job.
In Lodi.
Lodi, for Chrissakes. I mean, that Fogerty guy even wrote a song once about the dumpiness of Lodi. However, by the time they floated the offer, I was so hungry, cold, and desperate that I would have taken anything. Then, once I’d moved my few knapsacks of belongings down there and found a room I could rent by the month, came what seemed like the final indignity.
They put me to work writing obituaries.
Understand, in the early eighties, practically everyone in newspaper work got started in the obits. Even so, it seemed like the drudgiest of drudge work. Six days a week, I sat at my desk, scanning the death notices, calling hospitals and checking with the cops to fulfill my daily quota of morbidity.

Book Tour for Fletcher By V. McFarlane (REVIEW).....

One time friends who lost themselves as life became rocky makes for an emotionally intense tale of second chances that pulls at reader's heartstrings.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Fletcher by V. McFarlane, along with my impressions of it, then add this first installment in the Boys of HGU series to your bookshelf!

Just one night....
I should have known that just one night would never have been enough.
Not when Peyton Mckenna has been the only girl I’ve ever dreamed of.
We were friends once, best friends but to me she was always the girl I couldn’t have. It didn’t stop me wanting though.
But then everything changed, our worlds exploded and I pushed her away, too caught up in my grief and confusion of still wanting the girl that belonged to someone else.
For three years I avoided her as if everything that happened that night was her fault, but the truth was, the guilt of seeing her, still wanting her was tearing me apart but I was becoming weak.
Weak enough to let her back in.
Weak enough to hold her.
Weak enough to take that taste I’d always denied myself.
It was a betrayal.
But never a mistake.
And now I want more.
Our paths were too tangled, our lives forever on a collision course. This was my destruction and we had always been destined to fail.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

After the carefree book I just finished reading this one seemed to be its exact opposite as it was an angst-fueled romance of two people who longed to be with each other but because of a past connection they don't feel that they can be.  It's a forbidden romance of sorts, full of push/pull moments, that frustrated me a time or two on a hard-fought journey to HEA.

Peyton and Fletcher's journey is a bumpy one that started when they were young.  Starting out as friends soon led to stronger feelings that caught them by surprise at a time when Peyton was dating Fletcher's brother.  When tragedy strikes though everything changed between the two of them, years of hurt and self-doubts, in a story that had me rooting for them to work past their self-imposed penance.  This pair was clearly meant to be with a connection that crackled, a connection that felt just right, but they let a lot of outside forces keep them apart.  They knew they wanted to be each other's other half, but treated each other as a dirty little secret in a romance that left me screaming at their stubbornness a time or two.  Despite my occasional frustrations with this couple I still found myself drawn to them, drawn to their melodramatic choices, and steamy interludes.  Theirs was a romance that was rocky overall but oh so satisfying as I turned the final page.

Set against a backdrop of college football, and told in dual POVs, this is a story that gives readers glimpses of the past as well as ramifications of choices made now.  There are moments of angst, as well as moments of sweet and sexy interactions, that kept me glued to this couple's journey of second chances.  Surrounding this conflicted couple were the other members of their close knit friend's group, Decker and Colt.  These two were early supporters of Peyton, protective of her like big brothers, and I enjoyed the camaraderie they all had with one another and long to get more insight into these two friends as the series progresses.  On a whole I found this an emotionally engaging romance that pulled at my heartstrings.  While it's not perfectly crafted, it did have me frantically turning the pages, and it has me greatly anticipating the next installment in this series with Decker taking center stage!

My rating for this is a B.

*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.
