Review for Gold Digger by Aleksandr Voinov

Not all that glitters is gold.

Nikolai Krasnorada leads the life of a corporate nomad. Working for a gold explorations company, he’s never put down roots, and he likes it that way. Roots can be dangerous, as everyone from his “man-hating” sister to his manipulative mother to his war-traumatized father has proven.

But when his CEO sends him to Toronto to strike a deal with LeBeau Mining, Nikolai meets Henri LeBeau, crown prince to the resources conglomerate and inveterate flirt. Sparks fly immediately, despite the business deal that threatens to go sour and Nikolai’s own reluctance to give Henri false hope about him being Mr. Right. He’s barely come to terms with his bisexuality, and getting involved with Henri would get messy.

When LeBeau Mining launches a hostile takeover bid, Nikolai and Henri find themselves on opposite sides of the negotiating table. But fortunately—or perhaps unfortunately—for Nikolai, Henri’s not nearly as interested in his company as he is in his heart.

As a spinoff to the Special Forces series, Gold Digger is in a world of its own and can easily be read without having read the previous books in this series which is a testament to the exceptional writing skills of Aleksandr Voinov.  Voinov has created another atmospheric story where the locale is just as much a character as the actual characters.  The exotic feel of the city combines with the frantic joining of Nikolai and Henri to make their connection even hotter.  The high pressure business world also added to the uncertainty of their relationship as Henri's loyalties were put to the test as to which was more important, love or family.

Voinov is a master at making this GFY story believable by amping up the sexual tension to where the reader is practically panting for the boys to get together.  These scenes were hot yet tender and a nice respite from all the business talk.  It wasn't all about sex though as ample time was spent getting to know both Henri and Nikolai which made their HEA even more satisfying as you realize how truly compatible they are both in and out of the bedroom.

Once again Voinov shows why he's a star in the m/m genre giving us an emotionally intense story with fully fleshed-out characters amidst scorching sexual interludes.  Business and pleasure were perfectly balanced to reach a conclusion that was immensely satisfying.  Aleksandr Voinov remains on my must-read list and those of you who haven't read him yet will find this a good time to start!

My rating for this is a B+

*I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

  1. I enjoyed this one too. Wish it was a little longer but I always feel that way with novellas.

  2. I'm definitely going to have to read this one. I love reading books when certain characters are compatible to one another.
