MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
I'm not ashamed to admit I love bad boys. With Nero, we get a bad boy training to be even badder as the son of a mob boss. He's intense and larger than life and you can't help but be drawn to him. In contrast to all that intensity we have Elle and her friend Chloe who try to keep their heads down as the victims of chronic vividly detailed bullying. These girls, particularly Chloe, don't stand out in a crowd in hopes of avoiding the daily brutality but to no avail. In a single moment though things change dramatically for these girls as Nero and his friends become their knights in shining armor and sets each girl on an unexpected path that I willingly followed behind.
High school has been Hell for Elle and she can't wait for her senior year to end. It seems as if no one cares what happens to her and her friend Chloe as the school administration, teachers, and her parents either turn a blind eye or are clueless as to what's happening. The day she witnesses a murder behind the diner where she works brings her to the attention of fellow senior Nero for reasons she's not quite sure of but as he soon starts acting as her Guardian Angel she really doesn't care. Their relationship soon evolves into something more and leads her into a world she only read about before. Being with Nero forces her to open up about herself, to try sticking up for herself and combined with their intense sexual chemistry makes for an entertaining road to HEA. Even with her evolution Elle isn't my favorite heroine. I wish she'd defended herself more at the start and not let people do the horrible things they did to her. She seemed a bit naive as well and being with Nero made that even more apparent. I do like her loyalty though. She's a great friend to the facially scarred Chloe taking extra beatings in defense of her friend.
Nero is the highlight of this story as he exudes power and masculinity, along with being super sexy! As the rich and popular son of a mob boss he knows what he wants out of life and what it will take to get there and isn't ashamed of what he'll have to do to acheive his position. When his father sends him to Elle to find out what she knows about the diner murder she becomes an unexpected facet to his life plan. He's always been popular with the ladies with none of them ever being enough, but with Elle she's all he wants. He becomes her Guardian Angel keeping her and Chloe safe. Being with her we see a softer more romantic side as well as some very sexy naughty talk. He's possessive, protective, and I'm still dreaming about him!
This story is sometimes over the top but something about it compelled me to keep reading. The bullying is exceptionally intense and hard to read and left me fearing for the girl's safety and I'm still not sure why the girls were targeted. I desperately want to know more about the quiet Chloe! I'm curious about her scars and about the secrets I sense surrounding her and can't wait for the next book as I feel she'll be featured. Nero's friends, Amo and Vincent, are also sexy and funny and immensely appealing. Along with Nero's brother Lucca there's an overwhelming amount of testosterone in this story that made me giddy and will create romantic chaos as I feel a love triangle might be in Chloe's future....lucky girl. Elle and Nero have a surprising amount of chemistry and I enjoyed their verbal and sexual tug of war. There was lots of steamy foreplay but not a lot of actual sex which leaves this story falling in the YA/NA genre as it's an intense read at times. From start to finish I was fully engrossed in this story and its crazy antics. The heroes are to die for and the main reason to jump on board Ms. Brianne's Made Men series and I'm anxiously counting down the days until the next installment!
