MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
When it comes to romances it's all about the bad boy for me and in this second installment in the Bad Habit series Ms. Geissinger has crafted a remarkable hero with A.J. and his dark and mysterious life. This story is gritty with a sense of sadness but also one of empowerment as both the hero and heroine become stronger as their connection deepens despite all the danger surrounding their being together.
Chloe's the rich girl who went against her parent's wishes when she became owner of a flower shop. As a daughter of wealth she was groomed to be pretty so she could catch a husband but Chloe wants more than that out of life, she wants something of her very own. She's also disappointing them when it comes to her love life and her desire not to marry her cop boyfriend as she's starting to see him in a different light. Ever since meeting A.J. she's seeing a lot of things differently, her life as well as her impressions of him. Ever since their first meeting their interactions have been full of antagonism and insults that make her think he hates her but once she looks deeper into his soul she sees a man of worth, a man who would die to protect her. His demons are difficult to overcome but the feelings of freedom and happiness he engenders in her keep her by his side no matter how hard he tries to push her away. Chloe's an immensely likable heroine with a strong will who's loyal to those she calls friend. She's always been drawn to A.J. despite her better judgment but once she takes the time to look beyond his stoic persona she discovers a man of deep thoughts and emotions who changes her life completely.
A.J. is at the top of the rock world but behind the scenes he's a man on edge, a man close to hitting the bottom under the weight of his past and despite his uncanny musical talent. A.J. looks rough around the edges with his body full of tattoos but below the surface is a man of intense emotions molded by too many deaths surrounding him. He tries to push Chloe away at first as he doesn't want to see her hurt, but her kindness and the promise of a future of happiness calls to him in a way that scares him but keeps him coming back for more. A.J.'s past is an intriguing one that is slowly doled out as the story progresses and with each painful revelation you can't help being drawn to him too. On a superficial level A.J.'s a sexy man with Viking looks who exudes danger, but with each layer uncovered you see a man with a kind and artistic soul who will do whatever necessary to keep those he cares about safe.
This is an enthralling read full of conflicting emotions that punches you in the gut while keeping you on the edge of your seat. The main characters easily immerse you in this story with help from an equally engaging cast of secondary characters who are like family with their playful and loving interactions. From start to finish Ms. Geissinger has crafted an unforgettable and epic love story that puts readers through the emotional wringer along with the characters and I highly recommend it for its powerful message of love and unconditional acceptance overcoming all.
