Book Spotlight on Wicked Angel by Sawyer Bennett (REVIEW)

Painful pasts seek to weigh down the future of the hero in this scorching tale that pulled at my heartstrings.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Wicked Angel by Sawyer Bennett, along with my impressions of it, then add this sixth installment in the Wicked Horse Vegas series to your bookshelf!

First there was pain, and now there is just… nothing. No one can ever understand the losses I’ve suffered. A solitary existence that consists of my work and the empty house that serves as a constant reminder of all I have lost.
After months of paralyzing emptiness, I turn to The Wicked Horse so I can feel something. Anything, really. Any shred of emotion that will explain why I’m still here. Any justification for why my life was spared and theirs were not.
It’s all in vain. Not even the debauchery of the notorious sex club can fill the hollowness that consumes me.
Until she walks in.
Absolutely perfect. Gorgeous and bends to my will. Gives me her body willingly, while expecting nothing more from me than the pleasure I offer her. And the more she gives, the more I find myself wanting to take.
Wanting to crawl out of my personal hell for this wicked angel.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

The last installment in the Wicked Horse Vegas series was missing the usual steam, but I’m happy to report that this book is definitely full of the erotically-charged encounters I’ve come to expect from this series.  Told in dual POVs this becomes an emotionally engaging romance featuring a man trying to survive a painful loss and a hardworking woman looking for her own HEA while giving the sexy new man in her life a reason to live again.  From start to finish Ms. Bennett has once again crafted a story that nicely balanced matters of the heart and soul with scorching scenes that made me blush a time or two.

Benjamin Hewitt’s just been going through the motions the last year after a devastating loss left him broken inside and out, carrying scars and weighed down by guilt that he survived.  He’s closed himself off to feelings as the pain became too much and he’s now living life in a state of numbness that’s only relieved by visits to the Wicked Horse Club.  Only through meaningless sex has he been able to find something that makes him feel even a little bit...at least until he met the mysterious Elena.  From the moment they met he felt alive and was intrigued to know more about her.  Their pairing may have started out as a business deal but it quickly becomes more.  Unlike the encounters he had previously, he can’t keep Elena at arm’s length as she seamlessly works her way into his life...and ultimately his heart in a bumpy road to HEA.  When readers first meet Benjamin they discover someone who’s very bitter and who’s taking out his anger on everyone around him.  He’s alienated his friends and family and his behavior’s putting even his career in jeopardy.  His initial interactions with Elena reflected his coldness, but thoughts of her saw a more personable side soon emerge that showed an endearing man that I was rooting for.  Benjamin’s a hero who’s definitely broken when first we meet him and it’s a heartbreaking journey to HEA for him.  Elena’s just what he needed in his recovery as she was a strong-willed heroine who gave him a reason to return to the land of the living.

Elena’s a heroine readers have met before as the best friend of Jorie from Wicked Wish. She’s an immensely likable heroine with a strong work ethic that leaves her with little time other than for being her own boss.  Being a member of the Wicked Horse is the one thing she does for fun, for herself, and she makes no excuses for what she wants and I applaud her unabashed embrace of her desires.  It’s ultimately her strength that calls to the bruised and battered Benjamin, helps him start living again, and I felt privileged seeing them make a connection.  Elena was a great match for Benjamin, pushing him to embrace living and I count her as one of my more favorite heroines.

On a whole this was another satisfying addition to the steamy Wicked Horse series with a likable main couple and their romance full of heart and soul.  Scorching scenes were nicely balanced with Benjamin’s heartbreaking past which kept me glued to the pages and rooting for this couple from start to finish.  I enjoyed seeing past characters, getting an update to their HEAs, which added a familial vibe to this series.  With this sixth installment, the world of the Wicked Horse continues to entertain and I look forward to what Ms. Bennett has planned next.

My rating for this is an A-

*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.
