The elevator stopped on the twenty-sixth floor of the fifty-two-story hotel, and the doors opened. I didn’t look at Alpha.

Giving a big welcome to Ms. Davenport with the question…..What sets the paranormal romances that I write apart from the rest of the genre?

I love paranormal romance and always have. In a world where evidence of the paranormal is nebulous at best, I love to create a world where we have ghosts, werewolves, vampires and all other possible beings – including angels and demons. You can have almost anything happen in a paranormal romance, which means I can let my imagination run riot, and I love that.

I’ve dealt with ghosts, trolls and vardogers in the past, but I was new to the angel genre, although I had read a few in the past. When I write paranormal romance I always try to put a new spin on it, so I avoided reading any new angel/demon romance so that I wouldn’t be influenced by other writers. I do my best to come up with a unique storyline before I start writing so that it will stand out amidst the other books, since this is a crowded genre and it’s not easy to do.

Also, while in erotic romance the sex is an intrinsic part of the plot, I try to make sure there are plot elements that don’t rest entirely on the sex. I’ve seen reviewers in the past complain that there’s too much sex and not enough story in some books, and while I’m not convinced I agree with that complaint (I’ve never had a problem with a lot of sex in a book) I do my best to have enough plot that can keep people with those preferences happy. I like to have a healthy balance of the paranormal and hot sex, and hopefully that will suit everyone.

I had great fun writing “When I Look In The Mirror” – Tatum and Zack were amazing characters to write and I loved Dante as an antagonist. I hope everyone else enjoys it too!

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Whew!  That was one heckuva steamy journey, one that put the characters and readers through the wringer, satisfying one moment before causing frustrations the next.  From the first page to the last this tale kept you on edge, torn between two very different brothers who had big effects on Destiny's future. This was an atmospheric tale with larger than life characters that left me feeling complete but wanting a bit more.

Destiny's a young woman with a compelling past and a name that's appropriate given how life has treated her thus far.  They say that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger...and throughout this story Destiny proves that by the number of times she's gotten up after being knocked down.  When readers first see her she's working as a housekeeper and hooker, living a life where her past and future are blending together. When a case of mistaken identity leads Destiny to the two Astor brothers, life changes irrevocably in connections that have profound effects on her.

Riley and Jesse Astor are two very different men who affect Destiny very differently, with one of them her savior and the other pushing her to the top.  They're both delicious and drool-worthy heroes though, heroes not clearly defined but heroes who leave a strong mark on the heroine. Riley's more of the good guy while Jesse's more dark and dangerous, bringing their interesting dichotomy to sizzling scenes with Destiny.  They're two tempting sides to the same coin, two men who captivated me, grabbing my attention and not letting go!

On a whole this was an intriguing story with unforgettable characters!  The storyline is steamy while pushing many of my emotional buttons.  Set in the world of the mafia Ms. Robinson has put a unique spin on the popular genre and is a book I definitely recommend!

My rating for this is an A-

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

It's a brilliant intersection that brings together this series along with the Unrequited series of books, a beautiful melding of second chances and claiming exactly what you want, between a grumpy rockstar and a quiet, young woman whose actions speak louder than words.  From the first page to the last this book reels you in, makes you ache, before giving you the exact ending you've been hoping for through their sweet and sexy journey!

June Adler's the quiet yet caring younger sister of The Season's Change lead singer. She's been part of the rockstar world for quite awhile...and has had a crush on Diego for quite awhile too.  He unfortunately doesn't know she exists which changes irrevocably the moment she becomes nanny to his young son.  The moment he's back in front of her is the start of an erotically-charged connection, one that takes on a bdsm vibe as she proudly claims her submissive side.  There's a true connection between the two of them as he can easily read her desires and is happy to meet them in crackling and combustible scenes.  These scenes may appear merely physical early on, but their encounters show much deeper emotional depth, a joining of the hearts and souls of this captivating couple.

June's an amazing heroine, a young woman who's so much more than she appears. She's comfortable with who she is and what she wants, she goes after her desires, never settling for less and never giving in.  There's a maturity to her young age, a confidence behind her quietness that grows the more time she spends with Diego.  She has a painful past though, courtesy of a controlling father, and I cheered her on as she worked to overcome the negativity he pushed on her.  Diego Garza's an equally appealing hero with a past that broke my heart.  He's a gentle giant, a grumpy man, one who hides a big and caring heart.  He's a loving, sometimes overprotective dad to 4-year-old Milo, and I found him to be completely endearing.  He and June had a beautiful bond and were a strong support to each other in a journey that pulled at my heartstrings while making me blush and drop a tear or two along the way.

On a whole this book was pure perfection!  The romance between June and Diego crackled from the very start before catching on fire.  June's inner-strength grew through Diego's support and acceptance in a connection that ticked every box for me before putting their love to the test of time and their future.  Add in Milo and you have an even more delightful story!  A perfect end to one series and the reason to start reading the other if you haven't already!

Into the joy and happiness of the holidays comes this dark and suspenseful tale of two people bruised by their pasts who find themselves connecting in a combustible journey to HFN.  With this being a series starter, the author has a lot to present in laying the groundwork for what's to come here and in the future.  With each turn of the page readers are shown the darkness and pain these two endured to get where they are, shown the depravity of those meant to protect, and it makes for a difficult read at times.  After witnessing those childhood scenes, readers are introduced to adults who grew stronger because of their painful pasts.  They didn't let the pain and heartbreak define them but forged a path to fortune and success.  With Leo, she's worked hard to get where she is, and has no intention of losing everything.  She's sworn off men, but when Adrian enters the picture she's completely thrown for a loop.  She and Adrian had a crackling connection from the very start!  They had a connection teeming with erotic foreplay, a strong push/pull where each tried to outdo the other, in a journey that kept me on the edge of my seat.  While keeping my attention I found the connection between them wasn’t as heartfelt as I’d hoped, but with their pasts it’s no surprise that they still have trouble truly bonding in a mature and meaningful way.  With them, it felt like a constant battle.  Along with Adrian coming into her life, Leo has a face from the past who's returned to wreak havoc once again on her life in numerous suspenseful twists and turns.

There are a number of triggers along the way, moments between Leo and Adrian as well as the return of a villain from her childhood who's determined to wreck the person she's become, to make this an emotionally intense tale.  So let that be your warning!  For those drawn to dark reads, those that want a unique tale with erotically-charged scenes between two people leery of showing their softer sides, then pick this one up and give it a go!

The Selmere Integration Prize was awarded her in 2014 for her engagement in helping African Women in the Diaspora cope with a variety of domestic and social problems. The Proposal, a short story, won the Cook Communications first prize in 2010 and is published in an American anthology Africa 2012. In 2012, she won the Karl Ziegler Prize for her commitment to bring African culture to Western society in various papers, theses, and lectures.
