A woman who knows the man behind the rockstar facade finds their years-long friendship on rocky ground as he steps up to be her fake boyfriend at a wedding with things between them changing irrevocably.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Dissonance by Julia Wolf, along with my impressions of it, then add this third installment in the Unrequited series to your bookshelf!

Everyone loves Alex Murray.
I’m not everyone.
My history with Alex goes way back. Back to before the fame and groupies and wild tours. Before he was the lead guitarist for Unrequited. We’ve known each other for a decade and have been at odds for a good portion of it.
When I need Alex’s help, he jumps in with both feet, volunteering to be my fake boyfriend at an old friend’s out-of-town wedding.
Where my ex-boyfriend will be. The man I thought I’d marry one day.
I’m going to the wedding for closure, but what I didn’t count on is how my eyes are opened to who Alex Murray really is. Or that the act we’re putting on isn’t an act at all.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

After reading the previous book in this series I thought I'd found my one and only book boyfriend in Moses Aronson, but with each turn of the page in this latest installment, I found a new love and his name is Alex Murray.  When it came to heroines I was equally as thrilled by Yael, the sassy sister of Mo, and the other half of this entertaining couple whose rocky road to HEA kept me glued to the pages!  From the moment these two meet their lives become entwined and through moments of laughter to moments of tears theirs is a journey that pulls at the heartstrings while putting my emotions on an unforgettable rollercoaster ride.

The tension between Alex and Yael has always been palpable, hinting at a past full of hurt but also of attraction.  Through witty banter teeming with sexual tension it's clear they were meant to be together but HEA wasn't going to come easily and I was rooting for them every step of the way.  Whenever they're together it's like a volcano waiting to erupt. Years of them dancing around their true feelings, years of misunderstandings and self-doubts, has made their journey such a heartbreaking one at times.  When it comes to heroes Alex is nearly flawless with his kind and caring nature.  He's exactly what I want my heroes to be as he's sweet and sexy with a great sense of humor who wears his heart on his sleeve.  He's content to stay in the background supporting everyone around him by being a good friend and loving son...with the interactions between him and his father warming my heart.  He's not as good when it comes to accepting help though which sometimes frustrated me but was just part of his personality, a personality that captivated me from the start.  His attraction to Yael from the moment they met romanticized the storyline even further, showed him to be selfless in his love for her as he would do anything to help her be happy...even if it meant he wasn't in the picture.  Through every up and down between them he was there though, waiting for a way to earn a place in her heart forever.

Yael's a bit prickly at times, she's not someone who shows every facet of herself easily...but Alex sees who she really is behind that protective wall and it becomes the foundation for their bumpy road to HEA. Yael's a bold and brash heroine who gives as good as she gets and I was drawn to that strength.  It was a strength that belied her own self-doubts though, self-doubts that put up occasional roadblocks between her and Alex.  Just when those feelings might've overwhelmed her, Alex was there to help her see her true worth in another subtle act of love on his part.  With each turn of the page Yael shows emotional growth, internally embracing the snarky and confident image she shows the world, and I loved seeing all her layers being revealed. Throughout this story Yael showed herself to be the kind of woman I found easy to relate to and someone I'd call friend in real life which pulled me into this story wholeheartedly.

On a whole I found this a near-perfect story with its unforgettable main couple, great pace, steamy romance, charming yet complex friendship, witty banter, and laughter-filled interactions beautifully balanced with tear-filled moments of heartache...all set within the rockstar world. Alongside the immensely appealing main couple were glimpses of past characters that made for an even richer storytelling experience as the interactions brought out new facets in both Alex and Yael.  So many of my favorite themes all in one tale that was wrapped up with a big bow has me definitely recommending this as it's a heartfelt journey that I'm still thinking about days later!

My rating for this is an A.
