Readers will find themselves drawn to these first three installments in the Bad Behavior series as each one pulls us even further into the complicated life of Jamie “Romeo” Alexander. Coming from a working class family Jamie has always had to struggle to make ends meet, desperately wanting more for his family than they themselves wanted. After becoming a college dropout he tried factory work but none of it was for him. It’s merely by chance that he found his true calling as an escort and until recently it’s worked out beautifully for him, allowing him time with his daughter while making big money that will provide his daughter with the very best in life. The moment his heart becomes involved though is when things take a complicated turn and the cliffhangers become more nail-biting.
Book 1 lays the groundwork for this series by introducing us to Romeo, a charming and larger than life young man enjoying the life of an escort. He likes his clients, loves the easy money for doing something he enjoys, and appreciates the time his career allows him to have with his daughter Maddie. Life seems simple and carefree for him..until he gets his first glimpse of new neighbor Chloe. That glimpse changes how he views being an escort and weighs on him throughout each novella, pulling me into his life wholeheartedly from the first book to the third installment. I loved Jamie the moment I met him as he was a caring guy, someone with a big heart trying to do right for his family. His interactions with his daughter were particularly charming and it endeared him to me even more. Though he tried to keep his emotions under lock and key there were definitely moments where his heart won over his business mind. As Romeo, we see a self-assured young man very talented in the art of lovemaking, a young man whose personality is set by the client, merely a toy to the women who hire him.
Book 2 picked up seamlessly from the series starter and gave us interactions between Jamie and neighbor Chloe. It was time that put a smile on my face as they seemed a bit uncertain around each other, wanting to be friends while tempting readers with more through interactions that were both sweet and sensual. Chloe’s past is just hinted at here too, a past that left her heartbroken and angry at her family for their part in that heartbreak. The connection between her and Jamie is clearly strengthening, allowing them to start supporting one another emotionally and it was especially heartwarming to see Jamie let down his guard around Chloe.
Book 3 fills readers in on Chloe’s past and it was a somewhat surprising series of events throughout her teenage years. Chloe seems to be a quiet and composed young woman, someone serious-minded who has her life totally under control. The truth of her past belies that though and it makes me like her all the more for overcoming all that she did. Teen pregnancy and a duplicitous fiancée made tough decisions even harder and the lack of care and compassion from her parents and sister made things even more heartbreaking. They’re a truly nasty family whose words and deeds were unforgivable and I feel that they’ll be causing even more trouble in the future for this couple. Through everything Chloe was never supported, always left abandoned by those who should’ve loved her, which has me grateful for Jamie’s unconditional support of her now. Things become more complicated for Jamie in this story too as until now he’s always been able to keep his business and personal lives separate. When a client with a surprising connection to Chloe runs into Jamie though things turn tense and I’m left worried about the ramifications of anger and jealousy. With a life-altering job opportunity being offered to him, his life might be taking a dramatic turn that pulls him even deeper into the life of an escort with a boss who will be setting his schedule...someone who he’ll own everything to once the big money, fancy clothes, and expensive lifestyle starts rolling in.
These first three novellas were captivating reads with a nice balance of sexiness between Romeo and his clients as well as sweet and endearing moments between him, Chloe, and Maddie. Jamie’s a likable hero with a big heart, a heart that he wears on his sleeve the more time he spends with Chloe. His mother’s a bit rough around the edges and happy to take the money he gives her while making jokes about being something in life. Both his sister, and the mother of his baby, have addiction problems and it was another heartbreaking layer to his story that further drives him into the escort world. Chloe’s sweet and sunny, with just a hint of flirtatiousness, and it was like a weight being lifted off Jamie when they were together. She’s a truly good heroine, and though Jamie doesn’t think he’s good enough for her, it’s clear to readers that he’s just what she needs...what they both need. This was a decadently delightful beginning to a series that has me on the edge of my seat while waiting to return to this world, waiting for the steam and suspense of a couple trying to find their HEA.
