MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
As a series starter this book sets the action up nicely, action that's in and out of the bedroom as suspenseful reveals were balanced with the erotic connection the two leads form with each turn of the page. The introduction to the Shadowridge Guardians MC made here shows a group of men who are protective of those they claim as their own, while supporting the community they're a part of, which shows the family-like connection amongst the brothers and sets this series on a compelling and entertaining road full of surprising twists and turns.
The twists and turns start the moment Steele finds bank manager Ivy Jenkins tied up and thrown away like trash, forgotten and left with a brain injury, in need of help and protection. The moment Steele sees her is the moment he claims her as his in a daddy kink relationship where she's his little girl, helping her discover whodunit while learning that he's just what she needs to be happy.
On a whole this is a compelling read, a steamy story that depicts an unconventional pairing that pulls readers in wholeheartedly. To the world, Steele Mattson shows a tough exterior, but behind his stoicism is a man with a heart of gold. He's a gentle giant with a soul to match, flexing a strong side that's sweetly protective of Ivy. In contrast, Ivy's full of uncertainties as she slowly comes to depend on Steele in sweet and sexy scenes. She’s definitely a likable heroine, but not one I found to be special. The mystery surrounding Ivy is a well-crafted one too, one that kept me guessing and was a satisfying way to bring the community under the MCs protective umbrella. Ultimately, readers will find this a satisfying series starter with side characters who left a lasting impression on me and have me excited for the future!
