Little Red Riding Hood reimagined with a dark and realistic twist.
Princess Blanchette’s world shatters when the Black Wolf tears apart her castle and everything she holds dear. All she clings to is the vow she made to her grandmother on her deathbed.
Hailed as the people’s champion, Sir Rowan Dietrich liberates the capital in a quest for vengeance. He takes Winslowe Castle with an army at his back and his wolf, Smoke, at his side.
United by a shared cause and powerful attraction, Rowan and Blanchette embark on a journey of self-discovery and redemption—a path filled with loss, transformation, and ultimately, the healing power of love.
Can Norland’s resplendent princess, with her captivating beauty and spirit, tame the fabled Black Wolf?

EXCERPT:

Rowan stepped close to Blanchette, and suddenly, the training yard seemed to shrink. He stood over her, his eyes sparkling in the light, the sun’s rays gleaming in his hair’s deep black.
“Have you shot a longbow before?” he asked, his voice a sultry rumble that Blanchette felt move through her bones.
“No,” she said, shuffling back just an inch. Dark memories came tumbling like water through a dam. “But I’ve used a dagger. An axe too,” she added with a nervous chuckle, thinking of that night in the woods.
He closed the space she’d just gained. They were chest to chest, face-to-face, and nearly touching. Blanchette tried to take a deep breath, but her lungs felt tight. Her throat too. Her heart raced in her ears. She was sure he’d hear the sound. He looked down at her for several more moments of jittery silence. “The night of the attack. That was the first time you killed someone.” It wasn’t a question. But she nodded anyway.
“Here,” he said, handing the longbow to her. It fit her much better than Mary. But why did her hand feel so damn clumsy as he wrapped it around the wood and carefully positioned her fingers?
“Keep your elbow up and your gaze on the target. Your eyes will send the arrow where it needs to go.”
Blanchette felt heat emanating from Rowan’s body as he stood behind her, guiding her posture. They fit together perfectly. His breath tickled her neck as he whispered, “That’s it. Now, draw back the string and let it fly.”
As she released the arrow, she couldn’t believe how smooth the motion felt, almost like an extension of her own body. It sailed through the air, hitting the target with a satisfying thump. She turned to Rowan with a smile, and he grinned back at her.
He looked handsome...achingly wholesome, with a boyish look of triumph on his face.

“You’re a natural,” he said, his voice low and husky. “But we can always work on improving.” Blanchette’s heart skipped a beat as Rowan’s hand rested on her hip. He reached for another arrow. She could feel the heat of his body against her back, and the soft hairs on her arms stood up in anticipation. The hard ridge of his arousal strained against her bottom.
“This time, try to focus on your breathing,” he said, his breath hot against her ear. “In...and out...” How in God’s name? she inwardly screamed. She felt close to fainting. Her skin tightened at the sound of his voice, the way he spoke those words against her neck as if they meant something else entirely.
She was acutely aware of every inch of her body, how her skin felt against the fabric of her dress, how her hair brushed against her cheeks in the cool breeze.
Blanchette felt the heat of his body enveloping her. She could smell his scent—sandalwood and sweat and leather and something indefinable that made her heart race. She was growing wet down there, between her hot thighs.
“You are very good with her. Mary, I mean.”
He hesitated, then met her eyes. “When she was a babe, I was the only one who could put her to sleep. Not Beatrice or the wet nurse. I’d sing to her...I still remember how it felt, her little hand gripping my finger...” His confession faded into silence. Then he shook his head. “It doesn’t matter now.”
“But it does, Rowan. It matters more than anything. She yearns to be close to you. You—”
“Must keep your elbow up,” he whispered close to her ear, his body brushing against hers, his arousal pushing against her hip. She grew wetter, hotter, and little currents sang in her veins. “Yes, right there, Your Grace.”
Blanchette turned to face him. She was met with a gaze filled with a fiery intensity she’d never seen before. She could feel her cheeks flushing as she realized just how close they stood. They were practically one. His hand still rested on her hip, and she could feel the warmth of his fingers seeping through the fabric of her dress.
Rowan’s eyes roamed over her face, taking in every feature, every curve, every nuance of expression. It was as if he was seeing her for the first time and couldn’t look away. Their eyes locked for several weightless moments.
She parted her lips and expelled a long-drawn-out breath. He studied her mouth.
Kiss me...
“You ready?”
She nodded.
But ready for what?
Blanchette closed her eyes, letting Rowan’s words wash over her. She could feel her body relaxing under his gentle touch and guidance, and she took a deep breath in, holding it for a moment before letting it out slowly. He placed his large hand across her abdomen and applied gentle pressure.
“Good,” Rowan murmured. “Now, draw back...and let go.” Let go.
But if I let go, I shall fall...

Book Release Blitz for How to Win The Girl by Sara Ney (REVIEW)……

Twin brothers find their hearts in different corners in this charming contemporary tale with a tad bit of Cyrano thrown into the mix.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of How to Win The Girl by Sara Ney, along with my impressions of it, then add this second installment in the Campus Legends series to your bookshelf!

I, Drake Colter, solemnly swear I do not want a girlfriend...Carefree and ridiculously good-looking, I have the entire student body eating from the palm of my hand—shouldn’t I let the ladies on campus have their fill rather than being tied down?
If only my brother Drew would take notes from my playbook. As identical twins, we share the same voice, the same face, and the same physique; it’s virtually impossible to tell us apart—but that’s where the similarities end.
Lately, my brother has been whining about wanting to settle down. He longs for affection, companionship and all the bullshit that goes along with it blah blah blah.
Problem is, he’s hopeless when it comes to dating. It’s seriously embarrassing to watch, considering we’re identical; everyone thinks I’m him and everyone thinks he’s me.
Luckily I’m not intimidated by women and have plenty of experience. I might not want to find myself a girlfriend, but that doesn't mean I can’t help him. Dude never needs to know!
And that’s the very thing that lands me in trouble...

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

After reading the first installment in the Campus Legends series I knew I had to read the next release...and for the most part this book was an enjoyable one.  The author has a fun and easy writing style, giving readers crackling banter and appealing characters.  It's a quick read, one that made me smile while warming my heart and making me blush.

With this book readers get a modern-day twist on Cyrano de Bergerac as one brother tries to help his twin get the girl but ends up falling for her himself after accidentally swiping her pic on a dating app he created to help his brother find love.  The road to HEA may be paved with good intentions, but things get complicated the more he tries to help his brother, the deeper the hole he digs for himself while pretending to be his brother.  Drake's a bit complicated at the start of the story, a bit cocky and arrogant, someone loving his bachelor lifestyle and reveling in all the female attention.  His twin brother Drew though is ready to find love and with how close he is to his twin he sets out to help him find true love.  That's the part of Drake I loved, the one who would do anything for family.  Deep down he has a good heart, it just takes the right woman to bring it out.

Luckily, fate has other plans for Drake as it's only by accident that he winds up with Daisy.  She's a strong and sassy heroine, someone who doesn't tolerate BS, and is the perfect balance in keeping Drake a bit more humble.  Face to face they rubbed each other wrong, but by accident (and through texts) their connection was obvious.  Their connection crackled from the very start with flirty texts and the aura of sexual tension surrounding them.  With the issue of his pretending to be someone else thankfully dealt with early on, Drake and Daisy are given ample time to write their own love story.  They were a steamy pair with a road to HEA that was a laid-back journey with a tad bit of drama, Drake discovering new things about himself, while intriguing tidbits were left behind regarding Drew that have me excited for his story to be told next.  While this installment wasn't quite as good as the last, it still pulled me in and left me feeling happy and satisfied by the turn of the final page!

My rating for this is a B+

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Halloween may be over but readers will find this book the perfect treat as apparent opposites find a sweet and sensual connection that kept me glued to the pages with its unique and unforgettable storyline.  With its modern-day take on the Frankenstein legend, Ms. Jordan grabbed reader's attention from the very first page to the last through witty banter and a charming romance that warmed my heart.

Viktor Adamovic isn't your parent's Frankenstein monster.  He might've been put together one piece at a time but beneath his polished exterior lies the real monster...a protective and commanding beast whose scenes with Lucy West were combustible.  It makes them a compelling pair, a formidable pair, who come together to wage war against the people and events of his past in a relationship that might've started out as a marriage of convenience but soon became all too real and meaningful to them both.

On a whole this was a quick read, one that sucked me in from the very start.  It's a cleverly crafted tale that beautifully balanced a sweet and sexy romance with pain from the past.  It fueled so many different emotions in me too...warming my heart one moment, then making me blush, before leaving me with a smile on my face the next. Readers looking for a unique romance, one that breaks the mold, will definitely want to add this book to their shelf while hoping that Ms. Jordan breaks more storytelling molds in the future!

My rating for this is an A.

Book Spotlight on Mrs. Rochester’s Ghost by Lindsay Marcott (GIVEAWAY).....

Readers will find themselves entertained by this new look on a beloved classic.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Mrs. Rochester’s Ghost by Lindsay Marcott, along with learning about what inspired this book, then add it to your bookshelf.  In honor of this modern twist on a classic, make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a $20 Amazon GC as well as a digital copy of this book!

What is it about Jane Eyre that has made it a blockbuster for over a hundred and seventy years? The breathtaking writing, yes. The gripping plot: part Gothic romance, part coming-of-age story. The swooning romance between a rich man and a poor orphan, and the shock of the mad wife secreted in an attic.
But I think most of all it’s the voice of Jane herself: a young woman with an extraordinary sense of her own worth and independence. A voice that was revolutionary in 1847 when Charlotte Brontë published it. At the time, women had little say outside family and home. Their career opportunities outside of marriage were limited to underpaid servants and schoolteachers. Female characters in early Victorian novels were usually portrayed as either sugary too-good-to-be-true angels or fallen women seeking repentance.
Jane is neither. She’s constricted by the society she lives in--she needs to keep a stifling job as a governess or else starve to death—but she makes it clear she’d rather starve than sacrifice her will or stifle her intelligence. As a child, she has a temper and a will, even though she’s punished harshly for it. Later, when her employer, Mr. Rochester, grills her, she responds with strong opinions and engages in spirited debates. And when he tempts her to go live in sin with him in Europe, she escapes through the only means available to her—by running off to the surrounding moors, though it probably means she will die in those wilds. And she will not return to him until she learns he has fundamentally changed, and she can now love him passionately and physically without compromising her true self.
I believe it’s this will and independence of Jane’s that keep modern readers coming back for more (not to mention that throbbing romance!), and these are the same elements that inspire continual adaptations of the story. I had long dreamed of creating modern versions of these characters, because they so thrilled and delighted me and taught me life lessons over many years of my rereading the book. A nervy dream, yes. But also one that presented huge challenges: there are so many elements of the book that just won’t fly in an updated story.
For example: a current-day Jane would not be able to keep her curiosity under wraps about all the strange and spooky things going on in Mr. Rochester’s house. She wouldn’t just accept vague explanations or agree to his request to simply not ask about them. She would be itching to find out more.
Also a sexual relationship outside of marriage is no longer a taboo for most women of today. Jane wouldn’t have to flee that temptation. And of course a modern Mr. Rochester would be able to divorce a mad wife, though no doubt having to pay a heavy alimony for her future care. So that’s no longer even an obstacle.
But lies are always a problem in a relationship. Especially big lies.
A secret bigamist is a pretty big lie.
Being a secret murderer would be an even bigger one.
It was thinking about this that gave me the idea of adapting the book as a modern thriller. One in which Rochester does not have a stashed-away wife—instead he’s suspected of murdering a famous wife who has now disappeared. Jane would have to surreptitiously seek out the truth about him--guilty or not?--before she could give in to falling in love. And when spooky things happened, she would need to confront those as well. She would be risking an enormous amount. Losing the love of her life. And maybe also losing her life.
And so I set about writing a thriller, adding startling new twists, putting in jumps and shivers. The result is Mrs. Rochester’s Ghost. It was a joy to write, and I certainly hope it’s an equal joy to read.

Jane has lost everything: job, mother, relationship, even her home. A friend calls to offer an unusual deal—a cottage above the crashing surf of Big Sur on the estate of his employer, Evan Rochester. In return, Jane will tutor his teenage daughter. She accepts.

But nothing is quite as it seems at the Rochester estate. Though he’s been accused of murdering his glamorous and troubled wife, Evan Rochester insists she drowned herself. Jane is skeptical, but she still finds herself falling for the brilliant and secretive entrepreneur and growing close to his daughter.

And yet her deepening feelings for Evan can’t disguise dark suspicions aroused when a ghostly presence repeatedly appears in the night’s mist and fog. Jane embarks on an intense search for answers and uncovers evidence that soon puts Evan’s innocence into question. She’s determined to discover what really happened that fateful night, but what will the truth cost her?

EXCERPT:

The fog streamed in white scarves and pennants, with a bright half moon playing hide-and-seek among them. I walked briskly down the asphalt drive, Pilot racing figure eights around me. We cut across switchbacks toward the highway. I kept to the gravel shoulder as the grade descended.

A pair of headlights glowered in the mist, then swept swiftly by.

The highway continued to dip. Pilot romped ahead and disappeared from my sight around a curve.

“Pilot!” I heard him barking but couldn’t see him. I quickened my steps.

I found myself in the middle of a dense cloud. Fog gathered in the depression in the road.

“Pilot?” I yelled again. “Where are you?”

Excited yapping. But he was a ghost dog.

The roar of a motorcycle echoed from around the far side of the bend. Through the blanketing cloud, I caught a glimpse of the poodle trotting onto the road.

“Pilot, get back here!” I screamed.

The motorcycle’s headlamp glowed dimly as it appeared on the near side of the bend. Pilot barked with sudden frenzy. The headlamp veered crazily. Pilot darted off the road into the underbrush. A sickening sound of tires skidding out of control on gravel. A shout.

With horror, I watched the motorcycle and rider slam down onto the gravel shoulder.

I ran toward the rider. He was sprawled crookedly next to the bike, but his limbs, encased in black leather and jeans, were moving stiffly. Alive, at least. With a groan, he hoisted himself up onto his elbows.

“Are you okay?” I shined my flashlight on him. He whipped his head. “What the hell are you?”

“Just a person,” I said quickly.

He yanked his goggles down. “For Chrissake. I meant who are you? What are you doing here?”

“Taking a walk.”

“What kind of lunatic goes out for a walk in this kind of fog?”

“Maybe the same kind of lunatic who drives way too fast in it.”

“You call that fast? Christ.” He gingerly gathered himself into a sitting position, then flexed his feet in the heavy boots experimentally. He took off his helmet and shook out a head of rough black curls. A week’s tangle of rough salt-and-pepper beard nearly obscured a wide mouth. The prominent nose might be called stately on a more good-natured face. “What the hell was that creature in the middle of the road?”

“A dog.”

“A dog?”

“A standard poodle. Unclipped.”

He put the helmet back on, then pulled a cell phone from his jacket and squinted at the screen. “Nothing,” he muttered.

“The reception’s kind of iffy around here.”

He flung out an arm. “Help me up, okay?”

I approached him tentatively. He was over six feet and powerfully built. About twice my weight, I guessed. “I’m not sure I can pull you.”

“Yeah, you probably can’t. Stoop down a little.”

God, he’s rude. I did, and he draped his arm around my shoulder, transferring his weight. My knees buckled a little but didn’t give. He began to stand, crumpled slightly, then got his balance and pulled himself up straight.

I suddenly became aware of his intense physicality. The power of his arm and shoulder against my body, the taut spring of the muscles in his chest. As if he sensed what I was feeling, he shook off my support and stood on his own feet.

“At least you can put weight on your feet,” I said. “That’s a good sign.”

“Are you a medical professional?”

“No.”

“Then your opinion doesn’t count for much at the moment.”

Go to hell, was on the tip of my tongue. But the fog’s chill was making me sniffle. It seemed absurd to attempt a stinging retort with a dripping nose. I swiped it surreptitiously with the sleeve of my jacket.

He walked, limping slightly, to the Harley. “This thing’s supposed to take a corner. That’s the main reason I bought it!” He gave the seat a savage kick. Then he hopped on his nonkicking boot and shook a fist as if in defiance of some bully of a god who particularly had it in for him.

I laughed.

He whirled on me. My laughter froze. The look of fury on his face sent a thrill of alarm through me. I edged backward; I felt at that moment he could murder me without compunction and leave my corpse to be devoured by coyotes and bobcats.

But then, to my astonishment, he grinned. “You’re right. I look like an ass.”

Pilot suddenly came crashing out of the underbrush.

“Is that your mutt?”

“Yes. Though, actually, not mine. He’s a recent addition at the place I’m staying.”

He stared at me, a thought dawning. I forced myself to stare back: deep-set eyes, dark as ink. I was about to introduce myself, but he yanked the goggles back over his eyes and stooped to the handlebar of the bike. “Help me get this up. Grab the other bar. You pull and I’ll push.”

“It’s too heavy.”

“I’ll do the heavy lifting. Just do what you can.”

Obstinately, I didn’t move.

“Please,” he added. He made the word sound like an obscenity.

I took a grudging step forward and grabbed hold of the handlebar with both hands. I tugged it toward me as he lifted his side with a grunt. The bike slowly rose upright.

“Hold it steady,” he said.

It felt like it weighed several tons—it took every ounce of my strength to keep my side up as he straddled the seat. He grasped both bars. Engaged the clutch, cursing in pain as he stomped on the pedal. He glanced at me briefly.

And then, sending up a heavy spray of gravel, the Harley roared off into the enveloping fog.

“You’re welcome, Mr. Rochester!” I shouted into the deepening gloom.

Book Tour for Love Is Never Lost by Katy Regnery (REVIEW).......

A man whose life changed irrevocably in the blink of an eye finds himself relying on the one person who once adored him from afar in this contemporary romance of second chances in a small town.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Love Is Never Lost by Katy Regnery, along with getting my impressions of this modern take on a classic, then add this eighth installment in A Modern Fairytale series to your bookshelf!

From New York Times bestseller Katy Regnery comes a new twist on the beloved American legend, "Rip Van Winkle."
Sometimes, the journey is the love story.
On the night of his high school graduation, Ripley Van Winkle—local quarterback, prom king and all-around big man on campus—swan dives off the top of the Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse...and lands on a jagged pile of rocks. Suffering massive brain trauma, Rip isn’t expected to live, but he somehow manages to beat the odds: most of his physical injuries heal, though he remains in a deep coma for the next twenty years.
When Rip awakens two decades later, he will need to relearn his body’s most basic functions, in addition to catching up on twenty years’ worth of history, progress and change.
Something called the “internet” has the answer to every question you could ever dream of asking, and people are reliant on mobile telephones smaller than a Walkman. His high school girlfriend is married with children, and he has an eighteen-year-old sister who was born while he was “sleeping.”
As Rip struggles to find his place in this strange, new world, one presence in his life will become both a beacon and guide: his childhood friend, Katrina Van Tassel. But Trina has a challenging adult life of her own, and there’s no guarantee she has space in her life (or her heart) for her one-time high school crush...Rip Van Winkle.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

From the moment I saw the premise of this book I was drawn to it with its clever storyline contemporized for today's readers.  It's a premise that was given surprising depth by Ms. Regenery, far beyond the original source material, to pull at my heartstrings from the first page to the last through a journey of second chances and opposites attracting.

Ripley Van Winkle was the cool kid in high school, the star quarterback, the one who seemed to have everything.  Beyond the facade though was a young man being betrayed by his girlfriend and best friend while relying on the support of his childhood friend who others looked down upon because of her geeky nature.  It was an emotionally difficult time, realistic of growing up in the 80's, with lots of highs and lows due to expectations and matters of the heart.  For Rip, things took an even more unexpected turn the night his fall off a cliff put him in a coma for twenty years.  Upon waking, he has to learn how to live again, learn how to live in a new world while trying to remember the truth of the past to make a satisfying future.  Luckily for him his childhood friend, Katrina Van Tassel, is there to once again support him while staying by his side (as she's done throughout the years) to help him adjust.  With each turn of the page this was an engaging read, one full of heart and soul, that beautifully depicted a friends to lovers connection that slowly creeps up on readers.  Throughout the story I was shown a loving homage to the 80's while getting a contemporary spin on this well-known classic that kept me glued to the pages.  The characters too were immensely appealing, with issues that poked at my emotions, while ultimately captivating me through its heartwarming interactions between Rip and Trina.  It's a delightful addition to a series of books based on other fairytales and is one I definitely recommend to others for its loving and poetic journey to HEA!

My rating for this is an A.
