MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

This is a story that stepped on the gas pedal from the very first sentence and didn't let up until the end.  It's a whirlwind of action and emotions, characters that were put through the wringer, and triggers that might be difficult to read about but made for an unforgettable story.  It's a story that pulls at your heartstrings and has you holding on for dear life through all the highs and lows.  It satisfies while leaving you clamoring for the next installment.

Koah Saint and Tori Welsh have a complicated connection, making for a childhood of pain and anger that puts them at odds with one another.  A childhood of evilness and abuse binds Saint and his two friends, leading to an event that changes Tori's life irrevocably.  For both, the fallout of that event leads to anger and pain and doing anything to survive.  I admire both for surviving the childhoods they had, even with the sometimes questionable choices made by Saint.  Saint's childhood was truly awful, heartbreaking, so it was understandable that he chose a more gritty path to adulthood. Though his actions weren't always heroic, he was definitely a hero just for surviving. Tori's life had her carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders, barely making ends meet to keep her and her sister alive and well.  Saint and Tori have always been a combustible pairing, but slowly Saint started to prove himself her champion.  With each turn of the page hate morphed into something stronger, something built on the foundation of past pain in a sweet and sensual journey to HEA.  Theirs was a journey of twists and turns, hurt and healing, and it kept me glued to their journey to HEA.

This was a fast-paced read with larger than life characters, characters who weren't just black and white in their actions.  They were perfectly imperfect characters who pushed all of my emotional buttons as I hurt with each hurt they endured and smiled with their rare moments of joy.  Just when you think they're heading to happiness, the story takes a dramatic turn that had me screaming before things were made right in a bittersweet ending.  With the turn of the final page I'm left satisfied but more than ready to jump back into this gritty world.  I'm now left impatiently waiting for Joker and Crow to tell their story, stories that will be emotionally raw and require lots of tissues.

Rail chuckled at the woman’s wit. Her hands were strong, with long tapered fingers and short nails. When she signed, her movements were fluid and precise. Dance-like. MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As a fan of MC-fueled romances I'm always excited to discover new-to-me series...and this second book in The Dutchmen MC series definitely left an impression on me!  With its unique heroine, dark and gritty storyline, and exhilarating twists and turns, this book will keep you frantically turning the pages to see what comes next.

Picking up soon after the tragic events of the previous book, there's a new man leading The Dutchmen MC and he's just trying to stay afloat, juggling what his brothers want with what their former prez wanted.  He's also dealing with his own dark demons, along with caring for his dying Grams, all while hunting for the traitor who tore the Club apart. It's on this journey of revenge that he discovers an unforgettable woman who just happens to be the half-sister of Piglet, the man they're hunting.  Rail finds himself drawn to her from the very start despite his heartbreaking past, despite his difficulties with love and romance.  His issues make for a rocky romance indeed, but by the end he's proven himself to be the quintessential hero.  Rail has elements of mystery surrounding him at the start but with each turn of the page we get glimpses into a gut wrenching past that slowly impacts the Club's present and possibly his future when danger befalls his new love.  Rail's an intriguing hero, with surprising depth and facets that show him to be more than just a man of danger.  He's also a man of heart and soul, a man who warmed my heart with the care he showed his Grams and the ease by which he communicated with Gretchen and accepted her wholeheartedly.  He stepped up to be the man Gretchen needed at just the time she needed him to in this story's exciting conclusion that had me falling for him even harder.

As a disabled person I'm always on the lookout for characters reminiscent of me...which is why I did a little happy dance upon meeting Gretchen.  Gretchen's a perfectly imperfect heroine, one who's deaf but who doesn't let it define her.  She's an editor with average looks but is full of strength and fire.  Her first meeting with Rail and his brothers might've been daunting but she stood her ground, communicating with Rail since he knew ASL, and creating an instant bond between the two that's just the step on a hard fought journey to HEA.

This is a story with a lot happening!  Not only is Rail dealing with Club issues, but he has his Grams that he's caring for, along with his growing romance with Gretchen. Unfortunately it's the romance that suffers as not as much time as I'd hoped is spent on them.  What's there is wonderful, but I just wish there had been more scenes involving them together.  Rail's scenes with his Grams pulled at my heartstrings too and showed how important family is to the hardened men of The Dutchmen MC.  The brothers emit a raw and dangerous vibe, but will step up in a heartbeat to protect those they've claimed or those most in need.  They're an enticing group that I definitely look forward to seeing more of in the future.  The final aspect of this book that gets most of the attention is that of Piglet's fate.  He's a man on the run at the start, finding a community that he thinks is heaven...but ends up being hell in painful and graphic detail.  It's a twist that pulls Rails and Gretchen in and leaves them fighting their way out in a quickly wrapped up conclusion that had me on the edge of my seat.  On a whole this was an exciting tale with lots of gritty action and a nice bit of romance courtesy of bold and unique characters.  Ms. Nystrom has created an enticing new series and I applaud her uniquely-crafted characters that will have me coming back for more...the minute the next installment hits bookshelves!

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As a fan of MC-themed books I was quickly captivated by this book from the very first page to the last courtesy of the gritty, steamy, and heartbreaking journey of Nicholas (Chains) from his childhood spent in foster care until now.  In a story that flashes back in time to present-day, readers get to see the traumatic experiences of his youth that made him the man he is today and the negative feelings he has about himself because of all he had to do to survive.  Moments of blood and rage are balanced with the moments of the escapism he lets himself have with the only two bright spots of his youth...Jackson and Winnie.  These two shared the nightmares of foster care with Nicholas, gave him a reason to keep living, and throughout the years they've evolved from a trio of friends to a triad.  They're the only thing keeping Chains sane, keeping him from getting lost in the darkness living in him, but his fears of how others would view him have him keeping them his dirty little secret.

Slowly though Chains' past is catching up to him.  When someone from his past starts waging a war of revenge that starts with a revealing of truths to kidnapping him to reap their revenge on in person, things turn particularly dark.  Chains might have always felt unworthy of love but it quickly becomes obvious how many people care about him as every brother in the Grimm Wolves MC, along with Jackson and Winnie, rush to find him before he's completely lost to the darkness.  With Chains' kidnapping the story becomes a dark, raw, and twisting tale that will have readers trying to figure out whodunit while on the edge of their seats fearing for Chains.  Jackson (lawyer to the MC) and Winnie are equally on edge as they try to remember their own past along with what Chains did throughout their time apart from him.  The fear they feel is palpable, as is their love for him and all he did to keep them safe and cared for.  The MC is also desperate to find him while trying to keep their Club safe from this dangerous and twisted enemy.

This was a fast-paced read, one that actually had my heart racing at times.  Chains is a complex character, one who did a lot of unsavory things to survive, but he also has a loving heart hiding behind all that blood and rage.  My heart broke for all that he endured in life and it sometimes made it difficult to read.  Instead of seeing his past as a reason why he's UNdeserving of love and happiness, I’m rooting for him to accept that BECAUSE of his painful past he DESERVES a HEA.  Now he just needs to make it out alive for true healing to begin.  Throughout this story readers get a few erotic interludes as we see the strong bond this triad has, see their love and unwavering support for each other.  Readers also get to see the other brothers in the MC, see their playful interactions, as well as the determined protection they give one another.  The brothers are an engaging group, one who I look forward to seeing more of with the next installment in this series.  On a whole this is a darn near perfect book that I highly recommend and I'm now left breathlessly awaiting what happens next!
