MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

The emotional fallout from the tragedy of the plane crash that befell the Pittsburgh Titans hockey team continues to ripple through each subsequent book, weaving each installment into a tapestry of healing and second chances.  Those elements permeate this tale as both the hero and heroine have been hurt by their pasts and are determined not to get hurt again.  But the heart wants what the heart wants as boundaries once set get pushed aside in the name of love.

Ten years ago Cannon West walked away from playing hockey to care for his dying wife, but he's returned now and is quickly seeing success as a coach.  Knowing how much time and energy his job requires though means setting boundaries for himself when it comes to relationships.  It's all about keeping things casual and having fun...and his morning order of Ava is just what he needs to start his day with a smile.  Not wanting to hurt her though he tries to keep his boundaries in place but she's too much of a temptation that pushes all of his buttons and pokes at his boundaries.  Cannon's an immensely likable hero, one with a strong sense of loyalty and a caring heart.  He and Ava are a delightful pairing with fun and flirty banter that heartwarmingly evolves into something more.  There were a few times though that I wanted to slap Cannon for his fears/his indecision, but luckily he was surrounded by secondary characters who did the job for me which helped him grow closer and closer to Ava.

Ava Cavanaugh's been unlucky in love too.  Her recent relationship was with a cheating boyfriend who caused her to lose her apartment and start over completely.  She's a tough heroine though, one who rolls with the punches and never gives up.  She's determined to succeed on her own terms, independent-minded to stand up for what she wants and needs in a relationship that pushes every emotional button.  She and Cannon have a crackling connection, fun and flirty, with sensual and blush-inducing interactions that kept me glued to the pages.

On a whole this was another satisfying story from Ms. Bennett with a likable main couple and a relationship that you could become immersed in completely.  The connection between Cannon and Ava evolved realistically, beautifully balancing sweet with steamy as I rooted for them to find their HEA.  Time off the ice as lovers was also a perfect balance to Cannon's burgeoning coaching career, giving readers insight into the art of coaching and a more in-depth look at the players.  With each turn of the page I found this a delightful journey bringing together two people looking to start over, two people not wanting to hurt others, and just looking for love and support.  Though there were one or two bumps along the way (the melodrama of Cannon's ex mother-in-law being the most irritating) I kept rooting for them in a relationship that evolved realistically and was full of heart and soul.  With this recent release in the Pittsburgh Titans series readers will be left rooting for the team's resurrection, for the success of couples both on and off the ice, all while counting down the days until the next satisfying story hits bookshelves!

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Readers looking for a heartfelt small town romance, with a dash of mystery, will get all that and more with this single dad/nanny romance.  Add in a traumatized, mute little girl and you end up needing tissues while watching these two bruised adults slowly heal through the love growing between them.  By the turn of the final page you feel drained but cleansed and at satisfied peace with this epic romance.

Roman's a grumpy, single dad still trying to deal with the death of his wife.  He's also trying to care for his daughter Ariel, a mute, while juggling his own feelings of guilt and anger.  Unbeknownst to him, his mother has hired a nanny...and so begins a romance built on an unforgettable first meeting that takes a slow burn journey to HEA.  Roman's a tough nut to crack, someone wallowing in his guilt over his loss, but Elise isn't someone to give up on him or his daughter and he eventually decides he's all in with her in interludes full of steaminess that pulled at my heartstrings too.  There were moments early on where he was a bit of a douchebag though, while trying to fight his attraction to Elise, but once he gave up the fight he showed how talented he was at dirty talk which made for decadently delightful scenes of forgiveness.

Elise is a heroine who's easily relatable.  Her previous relationship was emotionally abusive and she's now left riddled with self-doubts and body image issues.  Her ex certainly did a number on her and it's left her a bit lost.  The opportunity to nanny, before starting the school year teaching, sounds like the perfect diversion.  She doesn't expect all the emotional baggage surrounding the family though but shows the kindhearted, loving person she is by being part of their healing process.  It's a process that brought a few tears, along with a few smiles, in a slow burn journey to becoming a family.  I found Elise an admirable heroine with issues we all feel occasionally, but it still broke my heart to hear the negative thoughts perpetuated by her ex in her mind still. Elise's love for Ariel showed through from the very start and it warmed my heart how easily she interacted with the little girl despite her being mute.  She made the little girl feel safe, loved, and special and seeing this trio slowly become a family had me cheering them on.

Courtesy of A.M. Kusi readers are again rewarded with an engaging and emotionally intense tale featuring an appealing main couple whose journey to HEA is richly rewarding.  Readers will find themselves happily put through the wringer when reaching a conclusion as satisfying as the one found between Roman and Elise.  The authors must also be credited with the respectful handling of disability.  Every member of Ariel's family knew sign language and it was seamlessly incorporated into scenes with her.  Another facet seamlessly incorporated into the narrative was that of the continuing mystery surrounding the murder of Nash's fiancée, a mystery hanging over the entire town and one that's keeping me guessing...in a good way.  Add in the conclusion setting the stage for Ricky's story to be told next and readers will be on the edge of their seats waiting for the next installment in this beautifully crafted small town romance series.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As a reader who has reviewed many MC-themed romances I found much about this story that was familiar.  But in the hands of the talented author, Marie James, I also found this to be a compelling story that pulled at my heartstrings.  From the first page to the last I found myself on an intense rollercoaster ride of emotions as two bruised souls find solace in each other's arms..if they're just willing to put their hearts on the line one last time.

Harley Cobreski is still reeling from the pain of losing his wife at the start of this story, struggling everyday to not end it all and leave his little girl an orphan.  Pain, loss, and guilt over surviving are his constant companions but the moment he meets daycare worker Alyssa is the moment everything changes for him.  It's not an easy journey though as guilt over moving on weighs him down and has him not always treating Alyssa the best.  Theirs is a fiery connection from the very start, a combustible first meeting that leads to a lot of push and pull as well as some surprisingly heartfelt moments. Harley's a man's man, someone who doesn't like to show his emotions, but it's clear that he's suffering and his inner guilt had me wanting to hug him.  He also frustrated me a time or two, but I still found myself falling for the perfectly imperfect man.

Alyssa Dansby is someone who's also suffered but after being saved from human traffickers she's trying to put her past behind her.  Being given the chance to heal as a daycare worker for the Cerberus MC is just what she needs and it's given her the chance to grow stronger and become more self-confident.  Taking care of the sweet Aria has been especially helpful in Alyssa's healing and provides some very charming and heartwarming moments.  She's drawn to Harley the moment she meets him but is scared by the anger he shows towards her.  As they slowly grow closer though she refuses to be merely a stand-in, refuses to be just a body in his bed and a replacement in his heart.  While taking baby steps forward in moving on from their pasts, readers will find steps that will make your heart ache at times but will also make you smile in this fast-paced read full of realistically depicted emotions.

The Cerberus MC series is one full of unforgettable couples, intense emotions, and action-packed moments of suspense.  The men and women of this MC are formidable pairings, there for one another when times get tough, and it all makes for one big supportive family.  Throughout these 21 books I've found epic romances, emotions that pulled at my heartstrings, and cleverly-crafted storylines that pulled me in with every turn of the page.  On a whole Ms. James has impressed me, while captivating me with her storytelling, in a series that I wholeheartedly recommend!

“No one goes on a three-day camping trip for the eye candy.”
“Sure they do,” Amanda says. “I mean, not everyone, but there’s gotta be, statistically, say, five percent of every trip that’s in it for the chance that you’ll share your tent.”
“Can it, Mandy-pants,” I say, invoking the most forbidden of all nicknames, the one coined by her nemesis in eighth grade. I don’t even really feel guilty about it.
And Amanda, of course, is unfazed. You don’t grow up the second youngest of six kids, and the only girl, without developing an extremely thick skin. “I’m just saying, Clark. If you were a little more friendly—”

“Who says I’m not friendly?” I growl.
“Grunting in a woman’s general direction doesn’t count as being friendly.”
“I don’t want to give anyone the wrong idea.”

So I grunt in Amanda’s general direction because anything else I say might encourage her.
For the thousandth time, I think about how, a while back, I told my brother Brody that if my sister and mom didn’t lay off on the matchmaking and attempts to get me “back in the saddle,” I was going to hire a fake girlfriend.
It wasn’t the worst idea I’ve ever had.
Not that I’d ever do something like that. I don’t lie, omit, or cheat, and that would be a falsehood on an epic scale.
And almost as much as actually being involved with another woman, it would feel like a betrayal of Emma, my late wife. Amanda clears her throat, tilts her head, and eyes me in the mirror. “Jessa Olsen is pretty.”
God damn it. Sometimes I think my sister can read my mind. And not in a good way.

Earlier today, I lost an internal battle and let myself take the hungry second look at Jessa I wanted. I let my eyes linger on her wavy medium-brown hair, her lush mouth—with its little bow to the upper lip. I paused there for a long moment, contemplating that mouth, then had to move on so we wouldn’t end up with one too many tents on this trip. But that didn’t really help, because the rest of Jessa is just as beautiful. She has clear skin, brown eyes, and just a few freckles scattered on her slightly upturned nose. A tall, slim, strong body.
Small, perfect tits! my utterly predictable dick chimes in.
“She’s married,” I tell Amanda.
“She’s divorced.”
“What?” Damn. It popped out before I could stop myself. Showing curiosity about a woman around Amanda is dangerous.

And sure enough, one of her perfectly groomed eyebrows flirts with her hairline. “Her husband cheated on her.” She frowns. “It was big Rush Creek gossip for a while.”

I hold up a hand. “I don’t want to know.”
She tilts her head. “You sure?”
“Positive.”
Amanda’s breath brushes my neck again. “Suffice it to say, it wasn’t pretty.”
I ride a wave of sympathy for Jessa—there’s nothing worse than public humiliation, especially when it’s unearned. I’m lying, by the way: I want to know. I want to know the whole goddamned story.
But I’ll never hear it from Jessa’s mouth, because I’m never going to sit down with one of Emma’s friends and have a heart-to-heart. Too fucking weird. If—and I do mean if—I ever date again, it’s not going to be someone Emma was friends with. Amanda takes a deep breath. “Clark,” she says, super gently. “We worry about you.”
“Well, quit that shit.”
“You’re 33. You can’t just be celibate for the rest of your life.”
“Who says I’m celibate? For all you know, I’m getting it on nightly.”
I’m not, for anyone who’s keeping track. There have been a few one-nighters over the past two years, all billed ahead of time as one-and-done. Everyone got what they signed up for, and if the experience left me numb, no one knew except me.
That’s how it’s going to be from now on, because I can’t do it again. Love like that. Lose like that. And know that if I’d done things differently, she might still be here.
Amanda catches my eye in the mirror, and I see the moment where she realizes I’m, for real, struggling.
She bites her lip. “I’ll shut up now.”
“Excellent choice.”
But I say it without heat. Because she’s my sister, because if I know anything in life it’s that she and my brothers and my mom love the shit out of me, and because, well...
Because I’m a fucking hypocrite.
Because ever since I allowed myself that second look at Jessa Olsen, I’ve been wishing for another one.

Readers who are uncomfortable with unconventional romances might find themselves leery of the storyline of this book, but that trepidation will have you missing out on this emotional tale of healing & learning to live life to the fullest.  When a loving triad finds their future destroyed during childbirth, two men are left to pick up the pieces to make a life for their child that they never envisioned in a sweet, sexy, and sentimental story.

For the last year Davenport and Oliver have been busy raising their son, not thinking about themselves or their own needs.  The moment they meet Emily though is the moment everything changes for them.  She might be nervous about forging a life with them, but they're fully committed to her and willing to wait for her for as long as it takes.  I was drawn to this pair and their loving devotion to their son.  Theirs is a sad history, one that broke my heart in the telling, but their decision to finally move on was inspiring and had me cheering.  Emily's an unconventional heroine, one whose story pulled me in from the start.  Emily's history of mental illness, her history of anxiety, made her a compelling character.  The author's handling of Emily's issues makes this story even stronger and strengthened my connection to this young woman who thinks herself unworthy of love.  Together they make a formidable trio in a story that pulls at the heartstrings while having you frantically turning the pages to see what comes next!

EXCERPT:

The sound of fussy children arguing the onset of bedtime drew her attention to the far side of the grounds. Young couples walked arm in arm, stopping every few feet to share a kiss, some chaste, more than a few bordering on indecent. She swallowed and released a slow breath. It had been so long since she’d been with a man; since she’d been kissed, cherished. Loved.
Forcing her attention away from the latest pair of lovebirds, her gaze clashed with the man she’d seen earlier. He’d been standing at the top of the pathway, his long fingers wrapped around a tall bottle of beer. Now, he stood less than ten feet away, his legs spread for balance on the gentle slope of grass.
He was tall, at least six-two, his medium brown hair held a hint of gray at the temples and hung to the top of his shirt collar, his face darkened by a hint of a beard. His crooked smile drew her attention to the scar that ran along his jawline.
Not bad looking. Interesting in fact, in a rugged sort of way.
While she’d been staring, he’d taken a few more steps in her direction. The closer he came, the harder she found it to look away.
“Is this seat taken?” he asked, nodding toward the empty chair next to hers. “No, it’s not.”
“May I sit?”
She shrugged. “It’s a free beach.”
He chuckled, his laugh sending a shiver skittering across her bare arms. “Not at the prices this place charges, it’s not.”
“True,” she agreed, giving him a shy smile.
He stretched out his hand. “Nick.”
She placed her hand in his, surprised by the gentleness of his grasp. “Amanda. Although I prefer Mandy,” she responded.
“Nice to meet you, Mandy.”
“You too, Nick.”
“Can I buy you a drink?” he asked.
She gave her half-full glass a shake. “I’m good. I’ve been nursing this one for a while now.” Taking a small sip, she admitted, “I’m not much of a drinker.”
“So, what brings you to San Bella Island?”
Mandy took a moment to answer, unsure of how much she was willing to share with a total stranger. “Short vacation. I needed to get away from the city.”

His jaw twitched, but he held back an actual smile. “And what city would that be?” “New York,” she said simply. “Long Island, to be exact.”
He made a show of looking around them, scanning the whole of the resort grounds and beach. “You can’t get much farther away from New York than this place.”
“How about you, Nick? What brings you to San Bella Island?”
“Same. Vacation. I just finished a big job, and needed a break.”
She took another sip of her drink, and asked, “What do you do... for work?”
He drew his full lower lip through his teeth, as if contemplating her question. “I’m a contractor,” he told her. “How about you?”
“I’m in between jobs at the moment.”
“A perfect time for a vacation.”
“Have you been here long?” she asked. “At Diamond Key?”
“I got in earlier today. How about you?”
“Yesterday. I’m here for a week.”
He met her gaze, giving her another half-smile. “Me too, until next Saturday at least.”
A thought occurred to her. As heartbreaking and emotionally draining as her last few years had been, there was one thing she needed even more than her brief vacation.
She needed a man. Badly.
She’d never been one for casual sex, but the idea of having a brief fling set her pulse racing. And Nick, with his crooked smirk, soulful chocolate gaze, and interesting imperfections seemed like the perfect candidate for a temporary lover.
Swallowing back the last of her drink, more for courage than thirst, she wondered how one would go about bringing up the subject of sex with someone they’d just met.
