Abused wife, Jill Thompson knows she has to get out of her bad marriage. Like yesterday. With no money, no job and no friends, this small town girl can’t find a safe harbor. But when she sees a news report that The Program, a US military base, is seeking women to be matches for their genetically enhanced soldiers, she sees her opportunity. If she is lucky enough to be a match, her snake-mean husband, Jack, won’t be able to find her, let alone hurt her ever again.
Rowan Blacker, is the only soldier of his cohort to request a breed match. He’s the newest soldier on campus and thanks to his genetic defect, he feels like an outcast. Matching and breeding with a woman will help him fit in with the team. Unfortunately Rowan’s match is nothing like the sexy, fun woman he was hoping to romance. The woman they claim is his perfect DNA match, is a scared shell of a woman carrying atrunkful of emotional baggage. Against their better judgment, they move in together and as Jill shakes off the shackles of abuse, their attraction ignites.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Lynne Silver's Coded for Love series continues with this intense read that deals with two scarred souls who are told they're perfect for each other but must discover that for themselves.  Whereas the previous installments dug deep into The Program itself and the evil machinations of traitorous villains, this one takes us on a more personal journey where love helps heal old hurts and makes them stronger than they both ever knew.

Jill suffered bruises, unrelenting fear, and a burying of her self-confidence at the hands of her abusive husband until the day she decides to leave him before he kills her.  Her escape plan has her hiding out on the campus of The Program where she's surrounded by genetically altered soldiers who can keep her safe.  She's the genetic match to a soldier newly installed in The Program who has issues of his home but is kindhearted enough to want to keep her safe.  Her time with him sees her flourishing under his care and attention.  She slowly regains her self-esteem and gains confidence in taking care of herself through the support of individuals seen as abominations.

Rowan grew up on the run because of one man's manipulations.  He always felt out of place because of his deformed arm and felt overly sheltered because of his protective brother.  He's a bit touchy about how people perceive him and his disability and he needed to be Jill's protector to regain his own self-esteem.  He's extremely charming though and willing to take things slow with Jill which made him even more of her hero.  I enjoyed his humor and how he used it to defuse tense situations.  As a disabled person myself, I found his disability dealt with in a believable and positive way which had me fully immersed in his outcome.

Jill and Rowan's relationship evolved slowly as it definitely wasn't love at first sight.  They had to become friends and confidants before morphing into an intensely sensual life-altering connection.  I enjoyed being reintroduced to previous couples as it leant a sense of family to the story which showed these enhanced soldiers as human.  Amongst these positive aspects comes the negativity of Jill's husband who was truly vile and took every opportunity to hurt her and his connection to the crazed religious group looking to infiltrate The Program left me rooting for his, and the religious group's, downfall.  I also found Doctor Wise extremely unsettling in his discrimination toward's Rowan's deformity and leaves me questioning his loyalty from this moment on.  From start to finish I found myself drawn to this couple and their imperfections which bound them together perfectly.  This series continues to entertain and I look forward to the next installment and the continuing uncertainty of the enhanced soldier's futures.

My rating for this is an A-

*I received this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.

AUTHOR INFO:

By day, Lynne Silver lives the suburban soccer mom life; volunteering with the PTA, doing laundry and working. By night she enters the sensuous world of alpha males and passionate heroines. She calls the nation’s capital home and lives in an old fixer-upper with her husband and their two sons. When not writing romance, she reads it. Lots of it. Over and over and over again, preferably with a bag of M&Ms in hand.

  1. Hi Princess, I'm so happy to be back on your blog. Thank you for hosting me again. Your reviewed humbled me- especially your comment about Rowan's disability. Honestly, I was terrified writing his book that I'd tell his story wrong. It's why his book is #5- It took me that long to be sure I could do it well, and I hope I succeeded -Lynne.

    1. As a disabled person I'm always on the lookout for characters true to what we feel and go through in our daily lives and I found the balance you reached to be just right. Rowan was strong but had moments of doubt which I could easily relate to. I'm thoroughly enjoying this series and am curious as to what's next. Thank YOU for being here today and I hope you return again soon!
