Catherine walks in on her husband in bed with her best friend. What is a woman to do? It helps that she is a witch. Unfortunately, so is her husband. Before you can say spell battle, Catherine hightails it up the coast of California to clear her head. Lucky for her, she finds an Aussie hitchhiker. She's going to have to face her husband in the awaiting spell battle. Can she have a little fun with her new found boy toy, or will he get scorched in the foreplay?

EXCERPT:

I noticed a hitchhiker along the side of the road. He held up a sign that read: “Anywhere.” It got me to stop. After all, it was where I was headed.
“Thanks for pulling over.” His Australian accent was music to my ears. I hadn’t heard one for a while. Flashes of a trip to Sydney came back to me.
“Sure. Hop in. We’re going to the same place.”
He opened the passenger door and slid into the leather seat. He threw a duffel bag onto the back seat with his sign. “Any place where you’re going, darling, is good for me.”
He buckled in as I pulled from the curb. I looked to my right as I checked my mirror. Not bad. I hadn’t met an Australian man that looked ugly. His blond hair was warmed by the sun. His blue eyes met mine with a smile as he said, “So thanks for stopping. Not many people helping me out around here. What made you stop?”
“Your sign is where I’ve decided to go right now.” I looked him over. He was all kinds of yummy. Definitely worth stopping for.
“Glad we’re going the same direction then.” He looked me over with a smile.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

If the premise of this story was summed up in song it would be a country tune about a good woman treated wrong by her man who makes him pay.  In this paranormal novella that is the first in the Beware of Warlocks series witch Catherine comes home to find her warlock husband Rich in bed with her best friend and sets off to escape a Battle Royale but ends up finding love and a sense of freedom along the way.

Catherine is an immensely likable heroine with powers of her own who's crushed by the betrayal of someone she felt deeply connected to.  Her reactions are that of any other mortal woman and I applauded her cross-country journey to find herself and her self-esteem once again.  It doesn't hurt that she meets up with a sexy hitchhiking Australian who's not completely what he appears but who helps her find herself and empowers her against the ex who's always one step behind.  Jeff makes Catherine feel whole and is a trustworthy support even though they just met.  They make a formidable couple and I'm excited to see where their journeys take them as their future's just begun.

The action moves at a fast pace with slowly building sexual tension between Catherine and Jeff.  Their sexual encounter is smoldering and well worth the wait but over far too soon.  Rich is sexy and arrogant but I still found him compelling and wish we'd learned more about him beyond the superficial outward package.  Throughout the story Catherine fears the upcoming battle between her and Rich, but once the foreboding reaches its zenith it's a big letdown.  The whole ending felt rushed and unfinished but has me looking forward to more as the characters are enjoyable with an entertaining premise.  Here's to a satisfying start to a new paranormal series that you'll definitely want to read!

My rating for this is a B+

*I received this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.

AUTHOR INFO:

Marilyn is a debut paranormal romance novelist. She enjoys the characters that just don't fit in. From witches to time traveling researchers, she is letting her imagination soar to explore new worlds. Marilyn has traveled to Paris, London, Sydney, and Munich. She loves to include these in her settings. Best of all is letting her readers enjoy her adventures through the perspective of a character. She currently lives in Northern California with her husband and cat. The cat, of course, is the center of attention.

  9. I like the witch's outfit on the cover. The slits in her dress remind me of shark gills - definitely appropriate for the spell battle mentioned above.
