MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As a reader who loves bad boys with a heart of gold I was quickly enthralled by the loyal yet commitment-shy Danny whose younger years were mired in danger and death which left its marks on his body and soul.  Leaving his childhood home behind and starting college should've given him a clean slate and a fresh start but fate conspires to pull him back into danger with the lone bright spot being the sweet and sheltered Megan.  With his past though he doesn't feel worthy of her and even as he tries to push her away he's also pulling her closer, involving her in a life he's tried to keep secret.  When Megan needs him most he'll call on the anger and strength of his past to keep her safe when someone who seems perfect for her ends up being anything but good for her.  Danny's a complex character torn in many directions as he feels responsible for so many people.  He wants to give his mom a nicer place to live, rescue his brother from the gang who once owned him, and be the man Megan deserves despite his questionable past.  Even while cheering him on I felt sympathetic towards him for every act that befell him to knock him down.  He never gave up though, he stayed true to the path he promised to stay on as inspiration to his brother and to be worthy of Megan.  He might have been a player early on, but once he admits to himself the feelings Megan inspires in him, he stays true to her.  He's super sexy with a bit of snark and a lot of charm and his subtle dirty talk and innuendos put a smile on my face, and like Megan, it was easy to forgive him any trespass because of it.  He was immensely strong-willed too with strong protective instincts when it came to Megan which further enamored him to me as he always had her back no matter how conflicted their relationship became.  Because of all these wonderful qualities wrapped up in his tatted bad boy exterior I'm happy to make him the latest addition to my book boyfriend list.

Megan may have had a life that appeared to be perfect from the outside but inside it was a smothering existence after the death of her sister.  Out of fear her parents kept her very close, too sheltered to let her live her life as she chose.  They held total control over her and they made sure she knew it. Starting college gave her the chance to finally start living and in many ways she did start experiencing life.  Life definitely didn't go smoothly though as her attraction to Danny put her on a roller coaster of emotions while two fellow students betrayed her in the worst way.  These events threw her for a loop, leaving her bruised, but ultimately gave her the strength to stand up for herself when it came to her parents.  Megan's immensely likable, sweet and a bit sheltered, but when push came to shove she definitely pushed back.  She was a good support to Danny, made him see more in himself than he saw, which made me like her all the more.

This was a good story that felt a bit rough around the edges when it first started but took on an air of narrative confidence as it progressed.  College life was vividly and accurately depicted with all the usual highs and lows.  Megan and Danny's connection was compelling and inspirational for all the support they gave each other.  Their time together was playful while teeming with sexual tension.  Their sexual encounters were steamy too as well as sweet for the quiet truths they shared in those moments.  Along with these two strong-willed main characters came a large cast of secondary characters whose familial bond was based on their friendships.  They may squabble with one another but when the chips are down they're there for one another.  Seeing these secondary characters also gave readers an update as to the main couples from the previous books in this series and was a nice way to tie everything together. Because of this reunion of sorts it makes it easy to jump right in to this story as Megan and Danny stand strongly on their own.  The only part of this story that frustrated me were the actions by two of the secondary male characters.  Their treatment of Megan was over-the-top and came slightly out of the blue.  These scenes felt manipulative towards the reader, especially as their comeuppance wasn't near satisfying enough.  Despite that small quibble this was a story that charmed me from the first page to the last.  The characters drew me in and had me rooting for them every step of the way.  Readers looking for a bad boy who's oh so good, and a good girl who goes slightly bad in the name of love, will want to add this to their bookshelf immediately!

My rating for this is a B+
