Blog Tour for Moonstruck by Onley James (REVIEW)……

Fans of the TV show Dexter will find much to enjoy about this m/m-fueled dark tale of righting wrongs through any means necessary.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Moonstruck by Onley James, then get my impressions of this third installment in the Necessary Evils series, before adding it to your bookshelf!

Atticus Mulvaney is the eldest son of eccentric billionaire, Thomas Mulvaney—a role he takes very seriously. Atticus takes everything seriously. Like his brothers, Atticus is a psychopath, raised to right the wrongs of a broken justice system. Unlike his brothers, he’s not very good at it.
Jericho Navarro is no psychopath, but he is a vicious killer. Like Atticus, he also has a secret life. To most, he’s just a mechanic. But to a ragtag group of social misfits, he’s Peter Pan, teaching them to eliminate those who prey on the weak with extreme prejudice.
When Atticus and Jericho come face to face over a shared enemy, their accidental meeting ends in an explosively hot hookup neither can forget. But they have nothing in common. Atticus is a buttoned-up closeted scientist and Jericho is a man on a mission, determined to find and punish those responsible for the death of his sister. Still, Jericho can’t stay away. And, truthfully, Atticus doesn’t want him to.
As Jericho’s mission begins to bleed into Atticus’s life, two separate but equally brutal families will need to learn how to fight together to take out a common enemy. But no amount of brute force can show Jericho how to scale the walls of a psychopath’s heart. Can Jericho convince Atticus that, sometimes, the couple who kills together stays together?
Moonstruck is a high heat, intense psychopath romance with an HEA and no cliffhangers. It features a fumbling, sexually confused maniac and the dominating, unapologetic gang leader who can’t stop tormenting him. As always, there’s gratuitous violence, very dark humor, more killers than you can count, and enough explosive chemistry to level a city block. This is book three in the Necessary Evils series. Each book follows a different couple.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Not having read this series before, but drawn to the premise of this book, had me diving in wholeheartedly the moment the book showed up on my tablet.  From that moment on I was captivated by this dark romance full of heated interactions and bloody moments of payback, swept up in a whirlwind of emotions with a bit of mystery thrown in.  Atticus is an unforgettable character, adopted into a family of others with psychopathic leanings, and taught to use those desires for good instead of evil by the only father figure they've ever known.  Jericho is a man on a mission, determined to find out what happened to his sister, and finding others along the way on his vengeful journey who slipped through the cracks.  These two quickly become inseparable after bonding while dealing with another deserving criminal, scorching up the sheets and the pages, as they become each other's ports in the storm on an intense and gory road to HEA.

Atticus and Jericho are wonderful together!  Seeing how poorly Atticus is treated by those he calls family had me aching for him to find some sort of happiness and acceptance...and he definitely found all that and more in Jericho's arms.  For far too long Atticus felt unloved, felt like a hollow vase with nothing inside, someone merely going through the motions of living.  With Jericho he finds someone to love him for all that he is, the good and the bad, and their pairing put a smile on my face.  Their scenes together are sizzling as well as heartfelt and their romance was truly epic to watch flourish.  Jericho was an immensely appealing character on his own with an intriguing moral code that drew me to him from the start.  I enjoyed seeing his protective side rush to the surface the moment he saw Atticus and the intensity his protectiveness added to their steamy encounters.  Sweet words and dirty talk combined to make these encounters practically singe my tablet while warming my heart too.  Together these two became a formidable pair, one whose love grew as the bodies piled up, and I was totally on-board for their unconventional romance.

On a whole this was a very good read, one with a delightful main couple and a gripping premise that had me glued to the pages.  There was a beautiful balance of romance and gore, along with sizzling scenes that showed that love is love no matter the sex of the other person, as Atticus easily embraced his first-time m/m romance with Jericho.  There was a slew of secondary characters, the rest of the Mulvaney family taking up the most space, and their poor treatment of Atticus had me disliking them at every turn while hoping they'd show some sort of likable qualities to get me to read their books.  By the end of the book, because of their behaviors, I wish there had been less of them as they became merely a distraction to the lovely romance going on between Atticus and Jericho. Despite that small quibble I still definitely recommend this m/m dark romance!  It's a perfect blend of eroticism and suspense that brought to mind the tv show Dexter, a gripping tale that has me wanting to re-read it again right now!

My rating for this is an A-/B+

*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.

AUTHOR INFO:

Onley James lives in Central Florida with her daughter, her daughter-in-law, son-in-law, and a menagerie of animals, both good and evil. James splits her time between writing m/m romance and mainlining dangerous levels of caffeine and attempting to maintain her ever-slipping sanity.
When not at her desk you can find her whining about how much writing she has to do and avoiding said writing by binge-watching unhealthy amounts of television. She loves true crime documentaries, anti-heroes, obsessively scrolling social media and writing kinky, snarky books about morally gray men who fall in love with other men.
