Secrets. Everybody’s got ‘em, including me. Especially me.
The difference is mine will never be revealed, whereas I can easily get yours, assuming the price offered by your enemy is right and the scales of justice appeal to my personal standards of ethics. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. The thing that’s not so easy for a shy guy like me? Finding Ms. Right and locking her down.Speaking of Ms. Right, the very night I was set up with Hannah Milliken by our mutual friend, I knew I’d one day kneel before her with a ring in hand. Hannah’s the kind of girl who’ll gleefully dance like a gorilla with me in the coolest nightclub or belt out a karaoke duet from Grease like her very life depends on it. She’s gorgeous, too. Funny and smart. And she even wears librarian glasses. See? Perfect.I don’t doubt Hannah’s the one for me. Indubitably, she is. I only wonder how a dork like me could possibly land a goddess like her.Unfortunately, when catastrophe strikes, all my questions are rendered moot. Now that Hannah knows the truth about me not actually working in cybersecurity—as well as the questionable things I’ve done to win her over—will I lose my dream girl forever, or is there still a chance for us to chase our happily ever after?
MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
With this standalone romance, Ms. Rowe has lovingly given her readers a delightful tale with a cast of characters who have come to feel like family over the years. She's brought together all her best characters in a romance that warms the heart while keeping it pounding in time with the steaminess of the main couple's banter and bedroom shenanigans. Though these characters are ones seen before, this story definitely stands strongly on its own and with each turn of the page my smile grew wider and wider.
Peter Hennessy grabbed my heart the moment I saw him. To the outside world he's the proverbial nerd, a computer genius who knows everybody's secrets. He's shy but charming, a man with a big heart who oozes sex appeal the longer you see him. I absolutely loved him and desperately wanted him to find some happiness...which he does the moment his best friend's girlfriend introduces him to Hannah. Hannah Milliken's someone recovering from a recent betrayal by her ex, so she's feeling a bit bruised and uncertain of herself at the start. The moment she and Peter talk on the phone though their connection is clear. They both have an affinity for The Golden Girls and the occasional misstep when it comes to flirting. Despite a few hiccups at the start, I found them to be a fun and endearing pairing. With Peter, Hannah shows a smart and sassy side, shows herself to be genuine and valuing honesty above all. And that's where the story shows some conflict. Peter's not telling ALL the truth when it comes to his job and it comes back to bite him. The strong connection they've built though, the love they've found in each other's arms, will help them as they deal with the ramifications of Peter's truths and had me rooting for them to embrace their HEA.
This story is one of insta-love, a fun and flirty read full of witty banter and nostalgic imagery. Peter and Hannah were crackling together, in scenes that were steamy and smile-inducing, and I utterly adored watching their connection grow stronger with each turn of the page. The secondary characters added another layer of happiness and ultimately tied everything together with one big bow. Fans of Ms. Rowe will enjoy revisiting their favorite characters while new fans will be delighted with the sweet and sensual romance between Peter and Hannah...two nerds who found love in each other's arms.
My rating for this is an A-.
